Lightroom 1.4

This is just to add additional information about a problem that seems well represented here..
Upgrated to LR 1.4, and get "AN UNKNOWN ERROR OCCURRED" after importing and converting to DNG.
HOWEVER . . . that only happens for photos in landscape orientation. Portrait ones do not get that error.
The landscape files do not seem to be adjustable in LR
The portrait files can be adjusted in LR.
Both can be edited in Photoshop without any problems.
Hope this helps somebody. Like others I will resist the urge to install the next upgrade . . . As for those that say we need to use the product to help debug it, I would agree if this were some obscure error. This is pretty basic. You convert, it gives you an error. How this escaped the people testing this out at Adobe is somewhat of a mystery if one discounts the obvious . . . they just don't care all that much.

Jeff,
You wrote that Pissing and Moaning was part of the problem. Well, the logic of that escapes me. The problem is, as you have also attested, the release was premature. Why? Simple, it breaks earlier releases. It is buggy.Why. Because of inadequate QC. Simple facts. Surely, if the pissing and moaning here on a user to user forum affects the quality of releases, testing, etc, at Adobe, that is a sad commentary on their professionalism. Let's hope that isn't the case!
Any pissing and moaning that is reasonably justified by the underlying facts ought not bother anyone who can ascertain those facts--and the release of 1.4 prematurely with serious endemic bugs that may go far beyond inconvenience for some users, those unaware of them, deserves a chorus of pissing and moaning. If that causes the LR team to be upset, so be it. If it causes them to sit on their hands in retaliation, what would that tell you.
The least Adobe could do would be to post a warning of these now known bugs to further prevent both pissing and moaning by showing that customer's data integrity is important to them and to prevent any more blind downloading and installations from happening. Sure, that will be apparent to the handful of users who attend this forum but what about those automatically upgrading--those who don't check here before acting.
Jeff, the problem is Adobe, not the users who are justifiably pissing and moaning over 1.4
