Lightroom 1 to Lightroom 2 file transfer

I purchased a new copy of Lightroom 2 to replace my copy of Lightroom 1. I installed Lightroom 2 and it pulled prior photos from Lightroom 1. Unfortunately, The next time I imported photos they were loaded on Lightroom 1, but not Lightroom 2. I removed Lightroom 2 and reinstalled the program, but the new photos do not show up on Lightroom 2. I want to remove the Lightroom 1 program but do not want to loose the latest import. The photos have been deleted from my camera.
How can I move the most recent imported photos to Lightroom 2 and what is the best way to remove Lightroom 1 from my windows based computer?

If the photos are present in the existing Lightroom 1 catalog, just open
this catalog in Lightroom 2
Lightroom 2 wil copy this en make a new catalog for this version. The old
catalog remain intact!
Just wai some time for deinstalation, Lightroom 1 en 2 work independent, if
version 2 works fine for you, then uninstall version 1 in the control
panel/software.

Lightroom 5 file edited in photoshop cc 2014 does not appear back next to original after save. Is anyone else having this issue? If so what is the fix.  The edited image appears back in lightroom in a new folder.

I'm performing a normal "Save", not "Save As". Work flow I'm using is as follows:  Select photo in Lightroom 5.7 >" Edit In" Photoshop CC 2014 > (after working on photo is PS) > Save > close PS. Photo returns to Lightroom 5.7 in a new folder rather than next to the original. Prior to purchasing the monthly plan and upgrading to PS CC 2014, I performed this same work flow using Lightroom 5.6 and Photoshop CS6 without any issues.
Just for fun... I attempted to move the edited file back into the original folder. I received a prompt that said the file already existed in the original folder, however I can't see it except the new folder that LR created. I tried several different sort orders, etc without any success.
*** Follow up: Was unable to resolve the issue using Photoshop CC 2014. Uninstalled PS CC 2014 and went back to using Photoshop CS6. Return trips from LR 5.7 to Photoshop is now performing as it should: returning edited photo back to the original folder in LR 5 and placing next to the original image.
Should anyone have a suggestion on getting Photoshop CC 2014 to do the same, I would love to be educated.
    Thanks for the help, dj_paige.

  • When I am finished editing an image in Lightroom, what files or versions should I have in my database of images?

When I am finished editing an image in Lightroom, what files should I have in my Library?  I start with a RAW file or a tiff scan from film. I label that "A" as the archived file. I make a virtual copy to work on in the Develop module. When I am done, I save a file as a Print file with dimensions of the print.  Since Lightroom is non-destructive, do I need to save any other versions?  For instance, in Photoshop since the crop is destructive,
I edit an uncropped version and do the crop when I am working on the Print version.  What should I have for the most flexibility over time in Lightroom?
I use Lightroom CC on a IMAC desktop.  My photos are on a separate hard drive and are also backed up offline.  Im running OSX10.9.4.

You don't need to make a virtual copy before you edit the photo (this is optional, but most people don't bother as its extra work with little or no benefit). EXCEPTION: If you are doing multiple crops of the image, you would need virtual copies in that case, created after all other editing is completed.
You can't "save" from Lightroom, you can "export". (It's a terminology thing) You would need to export a photo at the desired dimensions for printing, but there's no need to retain this exported photo, you can consider it temporary and delete it once the print has been made, knowing that you can always re-create it exactly from Lightroom if you need it.
So to answer the question in your title, all you need to retain on your hard disk is your original image (and in the EXCEPTION case where you have multiple crops of the image, you would retain the multiple virtual copies in Lightroom).

  • Lightroom processed files crash Bridge

I have been experiencing Bridge crashes when I try to open folders with Lightroom processed files in them. I tested this with all the folders of CR2 processed files. When the folder is chosen and as Bridge begins to process the files, it crashes. Moving the files to other folders, renaming them, adding them one at a time, all cause Bridge to crash. Other folders processed with ACR or other software render fine and Bridge behaves as expected. I am running Lightroom 1.0, Bridge 2.1, on a MacPro 2.66/OS10.4.9/ 5 gb RAM, 750 gb Raid.

Here is the workflow. I import CR2 files from my CF cards using Lightroom. I add keywords, ratings, and general corrections to color and exposure using the Develop module. I will than sort the CR2s into sub folders based upon their ratings. I than export the files as tifs and jpegs into their own folders. When I attempt to use Bridge to access any of these folders, it crashes. When accessing folders with ACR processed CRW and CR2 raw files, Bridge has no problem. The word process, here, means files that have had adjustments made that will change the XMP file. These adjustments range from minor to major.
Photoshop has no problems opening either the CR2s or the tifs or the jpegs processed in Lightroom. As long as Bridge is not used, everything works as expected.
The ACR versions used to process some of the files are all versions since its introduction.

  • Lightroom cache files permanently written to alternate drive

I've encountered an unusual problem using LR version 1.4.1 under Windows XP. Whenever I preview a RAW file in LR, a cache file is being written to an alternate drive, named Cache0000000001.dat, with each additional preview increasing the last digit in the file name by 1, Cache0000000002.dat, etc., and an Index.dat file. Each cache file is 2532kb or 8607kb depending on the size of the original RAW file. After closing Lightroom, these files remain on the disk and have to be manually deleted.
This has only begun to happen in the past couple of days. I therefore assume it's due to some change I've made recently. The change began after I removed Photoshop CS2 after having both CS2 and CS3 installed for several weeks. I don't know how the particular disk for writing these cache files is being selected other than the fact that my CS3 scratch disk is the same disk. The Lightroom files are on a separate disk.
This is not a major problem except that the cache files add up very quickly, taking up a lot of disk space and must be deleted manually after closing LR.
There is probably no simple explanation for this anomaly but if anyone has any ideas, I certainly would appreciate the input.

    Ian,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, you are correct. The preferences in Camera Raw determine where these cache files go and does limit the size of the total cache. The default is 10 GB which suits me fine. Where these files have been going in the past is a mystery to me.
It does seem surprising to me that the location for the Lightroom cache is
determined in Photoshop Camera Raw but so be it.
Again, thanks for solving this problem for me.

  • Resetting (or 'Trashing') the Lightroom Preferences file

    Hi,
in an effort to make the edit-in option in LR work, I found instructions that I need to reset the preference file for LR. I followed the following directions, see below.
However, even with holding the option key down on my iMac, as directed, I cannot find the folder and file. I do not have a Library folder under my username, but only one under hard drive, and in there I can find com.adobe.photoshop files, but no LR file. Can anybody help me?

Try making hidden folders and files visible temporarily following the steps described here Quickly Show/Hide Hidden Files on Mac OS X Mavericks & Yosemite | Ian Lunn - Front End Developer, it applies to Mavericks but I think is also valid for Yosemite (but not 100% sure). Please don't use a external drive when hidden folders and files are visible as there might be a bug with LR5.7.1 on Yosemite when they are visible (not fully sure).
When you are done with the preferences, make hidden folders and files invisible again.

  • Lightroom Looses Files After Name Change by Bridge

If I use Bridge to change the names of files in my Lightroom DB when I open Lightroom those file's thumbnails have a "?" on them and Lightroom says it can't find them.
I look for them manually and they are in the Lightroom storage folder with their new name.
Is there a way for Bridge and Lightroom to tell each other what they have done to save this extra step of locating the files and IDing for Lightroom one by one?
Or should I just stop using bridge and stay with Lightroom only?
    Thanks,

  • Lightroom Corrupt Files

Within the last couple days, I have come across an issue in Lightroom. When transferring photos from PhotoMechanic to Lightroom, the file becomes corrupt. The issue comes when the file is brought into Lightroom (and even Photoshop).
I have an inkling it is something to do with my computer. I have used multiple memory cards. And tonight following the game, a colleague of mine imported the photos onto his computer through both PhotoMechanic and Lightroom with no issues to any image.
    Equipment:
    Canon 1Dx
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013)
Here's what it looks like in my Library view:
Here is how the file looks in PhotoMechanic (left):
Lightroom is updated to the latest 5.7 version and Camera Raw is updated to the latest 8.7 version. My colleague, who's computer everything worked correct on, was using the same version of both programs.
I can rule out that it is not the memory cards, camera body, memory card reader. I feel that it is something within my software or the laptop itself.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Brace

It will not be the software. BTW Photomechanical just uses the jpeg previews in the file not the raw data.
Are you sure it is not the car reader or cable?? How did you rule this out??
I would suggest the ram may be faulty or the hard drive is failing but probably ram. Take it to Apple.

  • Forgot to move lightroom backup files

Hi, I recently changed my laptops and in the transition I goofed up with Lightroom 5 backup data. I copied over the lightroom catalog files but forgot to copy the lightroom raw images backup folder, like the ones named 2014, 2015, 1,2, etc. I have the original raw images from my camera sd card. Is there a way I can re-apply the changes I did in my catalogs to these original raw images? I tried the feature find missing raw images, but it did not work. Any suggestions on this?
    Thanks!

Thanks dj_paige! I will try this tonight. I just took a quick glance and still have this question: I dont have the old backup folders (2014, 2015, etc) saved anymore. They are gone. I just have catalog files and raw images on sd card. Not sure if the above link works for this situation as well. Will try it and let you know. Thanks for the comment!

  • How do I re-organize my lightroom image files

I realize that this may be covered in similar discussions, but nothing I've been able to find is exactly the same as my issue, so I'll try a new thread:
I'm on an Imac running latest versions of everything.  I copy my images from the camera card to a hard drive folder (When this folder reaches 4gb, I create a backup DVD and and start a new folder).  I move the images from the internal hard drive into Lightroom. (Approx. 10,000 images)
As the internal HD fills, I move the oldest original image files to external drives.  These drives are also now filled, so I have purchased a 2Terrabyte LaCie Raid.  This gives me 1TB of usable and will hold everything that is now on the internal and the externals. I will use the old externals for archived images in an off site location.
I would like to move everything that is image related to the new Hard drive.  I will keep the Lightroom program files on the internal drive, but all the new and old images and their associated (sidecar) files I would like to move to the new drive.
What is the best way to accomplish this.
    Thank you
    Steve

In addition to Pete's excellent help, it might help to, before you move your files, right (or control) click on one of your highest level folders, and select "Add Parent Folder". In a typical folder structure, this will add a single top level folder that all your folders sit inside. Then quit Lightroom, move your images folder in its entirety in Finder/Explorer and then reopen Lightroom. Now right (or control click) on the missing folder and relocate the missing folder. This will save a lot of relocating. Also check out this article by Forum host Ian Lyons.

  • "Windows - No Disk" error message on file transfer

  • UCMA 4 and back to backing a file transfer request

OK, I know that file transfer isn't technically supported on UCMA 4.0, but I wanted to take another look at it and see whether there was a way to b2b a file transfer request. After all, there's no reason that it shouldn't work if the messaging is correct,
right? The scenario I have is A <-b2b-> app <-b2b->B.  I have an IM conversation going on between A and B, so now I'm trying to set it up so that A can send a file to B.
So far I've extended the platform to accept file transfer requests by creating my own call and factory classes, and then registering them using RegisterPlatformExtension.  This means that when A sends a file, the INVITE gets delivered to my application.
Now I'm taking that INVITE and creating a new b2b call.  A file transfer request looks something like this:
    TL_INFO(TF_PROTOCOL) [0]16A8.4B28::02/10/2015-19:53:05.007.001d492f (SIPStack,SIPAdminLog::ProtocolRecord::Flush:ProtocolRecord.cpp(265))[3939761282] $$begin_record

I've got my b2bed invite looking almost identical to the original invite by creating a custom MIME type on the CallEstablishOptions for the back to back call using something like this:
    Regex r = new Regex(@"^((.|\n)*)(\<request)((.|\n)*)(request\>)((.|\n)*)$");
    Match m=r.Match(args.RequestData.GetMessageBodyString());
    content=string.Format("Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable\r\n{0}{1}{2}",m.Groups[3],m.Groups[4],m.Groups[6]);
    opt.CustomMimeParts.Add(new MimePartContentDescription(new ContentType("application/ms-filetransfer+xml"),System.Text.ASCIIEncoding.UTF8.GetBytes(content)));
    opt.CustomMimeParts[0].ContentDispositionHeader = new SignalingHeader("Content-Disposition", "render; handling=optional");
So far the only differences I can see in my outbound message vs the original SDP are that the Content-Transfer-Encoding might not be seen as a header (since the SignalingHeaders property on the MimePartContentDescription is read only), and the Content-Transfer-Encoding
on the first MIME part (created by the BackToBackCall) is missing (even though I specified it on the PassThroughHeaders).  Even with all of this though, I still get a 488 on client B when I attempt the transfer (even though the invite goes through).
What I'm wondering though, is whether there's any way at all to get this working the way I'd expect, where a file gets transferred directly between A and B, without my bot having to receive it first.  The other approach I've looked at is binding my
own media provider class to customize the SDP, but if this MIME part approach isn't going to work, then I have a feeling the media provider won't work either.
Any suggestions on where to look next?
    Thanks!
    Chris

    Chris,
I am trying to do something similar to this and from what I have read and in talking to MS is that you need to extend the Call and Flow class which it looks like you have been able to do. Could I bother you to share what you have written? Maybe we can help
each other out on this. I am basically trying to create an application that will be able to capture a file transfer and save it, then send the original request on to the intended recipient.
    Thanks in advance,
    Anthony

  • MBP (mid-2009) freezing, slow installations and file transfer

I bought the latest MacBook Pro model and installed Snow Leopard on a cleanly formatted hard drive. I have tried migrating via ethernet and FireWire from my iMac, but the migrations failed either due to freezing (via FireWire after roughly 24 hours of file transfer) or by an error message (ethernet with Migration Assistant).
Only through a Time Machine backup was I able to transfer my account files to the MBP, which again totaled at over 20 hours of transferring. The system was a mess, clogged constantly by freezing and spinning beach balls of death for durations lasting around 10-20 seconds during which music would clip after 5-10 seconds of everything not responding, this being accentuated especially during installations. I decided to format and try anew.
Now I've formatted the hard drive, installed Snow Leopard and will transfer my files manually onto a clean account. Installations take a long time although SL installation is within 30 minutes, iLife took 1.5 hours to install 5 GB. During the installation Safari stopped responding, as did the entire system, and the spinning beach ball would keep spinning. Watching a 480p trailer in Quicktime made the entire computer freeze up (no video/audio) for 10 seconds halfway. Transferring 136 GB (my Music folder) will take around 15 hours according to the estimate after 10 minutes of transferring.
I've sold my iMac now and all I have are the files on my external hard drive. I want to get them onto my MBP ASAP but the slowness is preventing me from doing what needs to be done and it's very frustrating. When I try to boot into Hardware Testing by holding D down the computer doesn't do it no matter what (Application DVD in or not, plugged into power or not). I've tried resetting PRAM but I get the same inaction.
    Any ideas?
Edit: I've done Disk Utility to no avail, it finds nothing wrong.

Installed, still getting freezes with spinning beach balls. Transfer says it would take 1 hour opposed to that 15 hours, but it stops transferring after X amount of gigabytes (from 0.5 to 5), not do anything for a while and then continue, stretching the estimate to over 2 hours after some time. I don't know if this is just with the hard drive.
The freeze-ups are frustrating as **** and make for a very poor experience. Any ideas to get to the bottom of this? I still haven't been able to boot into the Hardware Test no matter how much I try.

  • File transfer: AFP vs FTP

    Setup:
Cable modem to Linksys WRT54g broadcasting only in G only mode for PBG4.
AEBSn#1 in bridge mode via Ethernet from Linksys, N only mode, broadcasting wirelessly.
AEBSn#2 is wirelessly extending N-only from AEBSn#1, and is connected to a mini with external hard drive.
Using PBG4, if I mount a volume from the mini and transfer a file, transfer time is very slow: approx. 20 minutes for a 200MB file. If I FTP from PBG4 into the mini, transfer time is 2 minutes.
(I think the same happens if I use a Macbook Pro connected to the N-only network, but it's in for repairs right now, so I can't be sure.)
Any idea why the transfer times are so different b/w AFP and FTP and, more importantly, what I can do to remedy this? Thanks.

Same problem here. I have two AEBS Gigabit in bridge mode. Transfering a file via FTP or with Apple Remote Access (ARD) brings up to 3 MB/sec. Same file and same configuration connected via AFP only brings 60 kB/sec.
I hope somebody has an idea how to fix this.
    Thanks in advance
