Lightroom 2.1 Auto Import problem

Everything works fine with Auto Import except when an image arrives in LR so does the Import Dialog Window and I have to click it away with every shot. I am in the Library Loup View in the Fit mode. This happens weather the Import preferences has "Show import dialog when a memory card is detected" checked or not. I have checked with NAPP and they have no answer. I have Win XP 64bit.
Thanks, Tom

Hi Josh,
I just had a friend help me out to solve my problem. I use Canon. Within the Canon software under preferences, there is a tab called Linked Software. In the drop down window I had choosen Lightroom. It turns out this should be None. With Lightroom choosen the Canon software is telling Lightroom to open and causes the Import dialog window to open.
Hope this is your problem also.

  • Lightroom 2.1 Auto import file naming adding -1

I have used lightroom's (2.1) auto import function on 5 separate shoots with no problem. On my last shoot lightroom has been adding a "-1" to the file name. I am using "Custom name - Original File". So what used to be "Jen-1007" is now "Jen-1-1007", "Jen-1-1008", "Jen-1-1009", etc. I tried to use the other methods of naming but a -1 still comes up in some part of the file name. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

First I would check the file naming preset to make sure that it hasn't been accidentally edited, then I would choose a new empty location to write to (destination).

  • Auto import problem

    Hi all,
I am a professional photographer and have recently upgraded my digital workflow so that I can offer tethered shooting from my Nikon D700 to my macbook pro laptop. I recently purchased and loaded LR2 (version 2.4) so I am very new to it. I did some research and found that I could shoot directly into LR via tethering with the aid of a free downloadable app called 'Studio Tether' which installs a LR plugin called 'Lightroom Tether'. It is working intermittently. Still working the kinks out. I haven't been able to shoot tethered and have the file automatically import into LR even though I have the 'auto import' box selected and configured. An 'import' dialog box appears with each shutter release and I have to manually click the 'import' button in this box in order to import the file. I want to be able to keep shooting and have the files automatically download into LR. Has anyone used Studio Tether/Lightroom Tether? Am I missing a step in LR in order for the files to automatically import?
I am running Mac OS 10.5.8 on a macbook pro 2.4 GHz dual duo core.
Thanks in advance for any input.
    Best,
    Dennis

Havn't used this particular app, but have used both the Canon and Nikon  apps for tethered shooting (unfortunately you have to pay for the Nikon one, whilst the |Canon one is free). Both work fine. Have you set the Watched folder in LR to match up with the import folder used by the tethered shooting app. ?
You may also want to install this plug in which improves LR's teathered shooting abilities.

  • Working with auto Import folders and Bridge

    Hi!
I'm trying to refine my workflow. My artwork usually comes from PS. These files are 2gig each. I set up an auto import folder, with the meta data I need to go to smart collections. Because these files are so big, I don't want to have dupes everywhere. Is there a way for Lightroom (within the Auto Import Folder settings) so, "ADD" rather than COPY or move the file. If I "Move" the file, it no longer sits with its variations. and COPY  makes a duplicate.
    Thanks.
I'm trying it now so I may answer my own question, but will Lightroom accept a "shortcut" file (win7) rather than the original 2gb file?
Update: It doesn't seem Lightroom will be triggered to auto import from a shortcut file. too bad...

I dont think the Auto Import is the way to go for you here. Rather I would use the synchronize folder function in Lightroom. As you are saving from PS to a specific location all you need to do is make LR aware of that folder (or better yet, a parent folder) and synchronize when you are ready.
The variants will also be catalogged too.
As for the metadata addition, that can be accomplished very quickly in Lightroom or directly from within PS using an action.

  • Lightroom JPG import problem.

    Hi,
I just downloaded the trial version of Lightroom. I have a Nikon D50 and I am using it in the highest JPG quality (or RAW when I shoot for special occasions) in P mode. I do now have about 1500 photos on my hard drive and because I just installed Lightroom, I want to import these to create my library.
The problem I have is the following. Sometimes, I specify the WB to create a warmer photo instead of leaving it on Auto WB. So, when I look on the camera LCD sreen or on the PC using a picture viewer (like FastStone), the photo is great. But when I try to import these pictures in Lightroom, the WB seems to alter and become much warmer. So the imported photo is yellowish and does not reflect what I shooted. Any of you know what is the problem and how can work around?
Note that I did not try to import a lot of photos, so maybe the problem is present on all my photos and not only the ones I specified a non-automatic WB setting on the camera.
I was shooting in JPG because it was more convinient for us at that moment (except for special occasions) but I will now only shoot in RAW because of Lightroom. I just don't want to declare my past photos "waste".
    Thanks

    Dany-

  • Lightroom locks up when using auto import / watch folder

    Hello All
Has anyone ran into a problem with Lightroom locking up when you are using the auto import / watch folder feature. Everytime i try to even drop one file in the watched folder, I get a lightroom is not responding message. This really suck...........Everything else seems to be working so far.
    Thanks
    Bill

I had the same problem. When i would auto import, it would stuck after one photo was imported. I have a separate partition on my harddisk for photo's (F:\) when i made an extra subdirectory (F:\Photo) and auto imported the photo's to that place the problem was solved. Why ? I don't know

  • Horrendous import problems in Lightroom 3 64bit

Hi, I'm in desperate need of some advice in figuring out why Lightroom 3 won't import NEF files taken on a D90. I know there that other threads have been started about this issue, but mine has gone a bit further
Not sure where to start with this so system first: OS Windows 7 home Premium 64 bit, 8GB Ram, 1.5TB HD, Intel i7 860 2.8ghz, ATI Radeon 5700 Display driver series, lightroom 3 64 bit installed.
The first issue is that import in lightroom either A) Starts the import, gets through about 10 NEF files and locks/hangs indefinately followed by the Lightroom is not responding message and lightroom has to be closed down or B) Opens import module but locks/hangs whilst trying to find the images which are on an SD card - this happens whether the card is inserted into the PC card reader, an external card reader or direct from camera or C) Will not even consider opening the import module. The import module also freezes/hangs when trying to create a new catalogue. As it stands I'm unable to import directly into Lightroom from an SD card - and I've tried different cards and brands.
The strange thing is I'm having a similar issue trying to transfer the NEF files by using windows explorer - i.e. freezes & hangs, however after a number of attempts I am eventually able to copy the files over to the HD - although it is so slow.... & back-up to an external HD. Now here's the strange thing, once the NEFfiles are transfered onto the HD Lightroom will import them, but not without a fight. Again in the import module it freezes/hangs but when the "lightroom is not responding" message comes up, if you choose the "wait until lightroom" responds option it eventually imports the chosen files.
I've tried all the usual fixes - start a new catalogue, delete preferences & .lock files, unistall & re-install, update codecs for Nikon files, recalibrate the colour profile, use a generic sRGB profile, update ATI drivers etc
All other modules etc appear to work fine, although I don't use all of them, but certainly everything in library and develop aooears normal
As it currently stands I'm having to reconsider whether I want to continue investing in the Lightroom system as it just isn't acceptable for this to keep occuring and no fixes released by Adobe. I've used lightroom since 1.0 and Nikon NEf files through that time, but since version 3 it has become impossible to utilise
I'd be really grateful for any help or advice, be eternally grateful if someone has a fix or even better if Adobe fixed the bleeding issue!
    Cheers
    Steve

Unlike the end of the linked thread, the OP does not have the problem of a hidden-dialog waiting for input because the import finishes eventually when importing from the hard-drive.
In the linked thread, it is possible that Adobe would be entirely to blame for such a situation, but it is more likely that they are relying on the operating system and the display-driver to do certain things, and so are only responsible for detecting that something is wrong and handling it more gracefully.  The problem might magically go away with the next version of LR, the next version of the display driver, or the next operating-system service pack or update.  The hope would be that Adobe can reproduce the issue, and either fix their code, or at least provide a workaround for a buggy display driver.  A main challenge for Adobe is that they have created their own look and feel for the product and have to get it to act the same on both the Windows and Mac platforms.  That is not easy, and there are likely many bugs still to discover and fix.

  • I can not import photos into lightroom 4.4  Had no problem before this time.

I can not import photos into lightroom 4.4  Had no problem before this time.  I have camera raw7.4 and use a NikonD7100.  I have a Mac using 10.6.8.  I can see the images and selected for import in Lightroom, but after I check "import" I get a message that Lightroom could not read the files.  This happens with both raw and jpeg files.  Thanks for a repl

thanks for the reply. would you please tell me how to check for the folder to have write permission.  I have done the same settings as before but this time does not transfer.  It says can not read files with a code "298".  I can see the thumbnails on the screen prior to trying to import the photos, also can see them with the card in the camera and using the view mode.  I have up to date camera raw 7.4 for my Nikon D7100 and the settings allow for 7.1 and above

  • Lightroom 5.4 Canon partial import problem (CR2s)

    Hello,
I have Lightroom 5.4 on a Windows 8.1 system x64.  My camera is a Canon 50D that's several years old.( i.e. not a brand new camera import problem)
When I plug my camera into my computer via the USB cable and try to import images into a Lightroom catalog, Lightroom will recognize and import jpgs, but it does not even see CR2 files. No errors, no thumbnails. It's like they are not there.  If I capture a single image as both a jpg and CR2 simultaneously it will only see the jpg and not the CR2.
If I open the Canon EOS Utility it sees any and all images (CR2's included).
I've read a few posts so to help narrow it down:
    1) I have write access to the folder (b/c I can import the jpgs.).
    2) My Windows system does not recognize the CR2 files in an exporer window if they are still on the camera (to be specific, it sees that there are files, just not the type and no thumbnail. Not even a properties option with right click). I can't pull the files directly off the camera with my computer only with the Canon app. I have the latest camera codec pack put out by  Microsoft KB2899190 from 12/9/2013.
    3) Once the CR2's are on my computer via the Canon EOS app they are viewable in Expolorer (thumbnails) and can be imported into Lightroom.
    4) I have cleared and reformatted the flash card (more than once). Rebooted and powered down the PC and Camera multiple times (removed camera batt. and Unplugged PC).
    5) As of time of this post Lightroom is up to date.
I believe there is some communication issue with my camera and this particular PC setup. My wife's computer does not have this issue (she has Vista). When she plugs in the camera the thumbnails pop up in an explorer window for her right away.
    Thoughts?
Thank you very much for your help.

Yes, for many people. Recent versions of Lightroom in particular seem to be quite fickle when trying to import directly from camera, and the "fix" in virtually all cases is to use a card reader.

  • Lightroom 5 auto import issues with nikon d90

Hoping someone can help answer my question - I am wondering if Lightroom 5 has any issues with the auto import or tethering feature using a Nikon d90? I was using Lightroom 2 and the auto import feature has no issues with my d90. After I installed Lightroom 5 (Cloud App) and ran it for the first time, the first thing I used was the tethering feature and it worked great for 4 shots. I turned my camera off and then back on again and LR would not recognize my camera any longer for tethering. What's strange is that it will detect it for "Importing from Device" option. So, I went to plan two which was to auto import and that wasn't working at all. I am at a loss. I have a shoot coming up this weekend and need for one of these options to work. Any help is appreciated!!!

I use a D90, but I have never tried tethered shooting with it. Other users might have some suggestions for you, but looking at the list of supported cameras for tethered shooting the D90 is not "officially" supported in Lightroom. So you're probably on your own to find solutions. I know this isn't a lot of help.

  • Lightroom 5 is auto-developing our canon 7d raw files but not the canon 5d mark 3 files upon import.

Lightroom 5 is auto-developing raw files upon import on the canon 7d but not on the canon 5d mark3. I would prefer to do individual file developing in the develop module.

Go into preferences, select the Presets tab. Hit "Reset all Default Develop Settings". You probably by accident set a default Develop for the 7D. Also check that you don't have a preset selected in the import dialog.

  • H: not found when insert the card of flash drive for auto import In Lightroom CC

when i try to auto import Inside Lightroom 6 or CC getting an error "H: not found" as soon as i plug the memory card or any flash drive to the computer. i'm using lightroom CC win 7 64 bit

Lightroom does reliably write capture time to industry-standard metadata fields in photos.   If you are indeed using the File > Import command a second time to re-import the photos after first importing them into LR, what's likely happening is that you're not telling LR to write the metadata changes back to the photos.  There are two ways to do this:  1) Select all the photos and do Metadata > Save Metadata To File, or 2) Select the option Catalog Settings > Automatically Write Changes Into XMP.
If this does not fix the issue, then you'll need to provide more detail about the precise steps you're taking, with command names and options.
direct Lightroom to change each photo file name to match its new capture date
Stepping back, re-importing the photos back into LR isn't necessary to rename photos with their capture date -- use the Library > Rename Photos command.

  • Lightroom auto import/tethered shooting strangeness

Hello, I'm trying to work out a tethered shooting workflow for the 1Ds MKIII that can keep up with a fairly rapid lifestyle shooter. I'm on a Windows XP system, 1.86 GHz Intel Core 2 duo system with 3 GB of ram. I'm seeing this same behavior in LR 1.3 and LR 2.0 beta.
I've followed the steps Martin Evening outlines on his blog (Canon EOS utility in conjunction with Lighroom auto import) here http://lightroom-news.com/2008/02/07/shooting-tethered-with-the-canon-eos-1ds-mkiii/ and everything is working _almost_ smoothly.
When I fire off a single frame with the camera, it takes about 5 seconds for the Canon EOS utility to copy the file to the hard drive and for lightroom to see and move the file from the watched folder to the destination folder. This seems reasonable.
However, when I start shooting at a normal pace (approximately 1 frame a second) it seems like Lightroom stops watching the watched folder until I stop shooting for an extended period of time.
I would have thought Lightroom checked the folder at a standard interval, every 5 seconds or so. However, if I snap, say 40 frames at the rate of 1 a second, Lightroom doesn't realize there are new images in the watched folder until I stop shooting and let the camera's buffer empty out.
Has anyone else seen this behavior? Does anyone know if there is a registry hack to force lightroom to check the watched folder more frequently? Even better would be a hook, like a command line switch, that tells LR to check the watched folder immediately. The EOS utility 'linked software' preference could be configured to call this hook, and would result in much snappier performance.
    Thanks for the help,
    Andris

    Hi Andris,
It strikes me that you have hit the maximum buffer that the combination of the Windows OS, EOS Utility and Lightroom are capable of managing. As you will have read in the report, I was able to fine-tune the tethered import to a rate of 3 seconds per capture image. This was with an Intel iMac 2.8 GHz duo core running Windows XP with 4 GB RAM. So a little faster than your Windows machine, which would explain why my download tests were faster.
Look at it this way. There is the usual buffer of up to 12 frames on the camera in raw mode, which when combined with the 2 seconds it takes to transfer say, 25MB data from the camera to the computer via USB 2. This means that you can shoot at a rate of 1 frame per second, but will soon hit the camera buffer first in around 20 seconds or so at that rate. it takes about a further 1 second for the files to auto import into Lightroom and as you point out, Lightroom appears to do this in bursts. How to speed that up, I don't know. What I do know is that any background activity will slow down the import. On a shoot this week I was busy building an export of high res JPEGs from the catalog as I was shooting more downloads and as one would expect, this did affect the performance.
It would be nice if the tethered shooting could be made faster, but as far as I am aware, this combination is the fastest yet and certainly faster than downloading from a card. As for Capture One, I don't know yet if they have managed to get tethered shooting sorted out for the MkIII.

  • Problem in Auto import & syndication.

    Hi All,
I am facing an unusual problem in auto import & syndication.
The problem is all of a sudden the import & syndication process stops
    without making any changes.
Has anybody faced the same problem & any inputs to overcome.
    Regards,
    Pramopd

    Hi Pramod,
The problem is all of a sudden the import & syndication process stops
    without making any changes.
Can you explain your problem a little more in detail
Automatic importing and syndication stops suddenly means is it that after importing or syndicating a file once it does no work again?
If this is your problem then check for the following things:
    -  After automatic importing of a source file once .MDM places the file automatically in the archive folder. If you wish to reimport the same file it may not work again if in your import map import actio is just create. As once you have imported the fiel based on the primary key in teh matching tab the rec has alredy been imported in MDM so next time this rec will not com eunder th create import action but Update all mapped field option. So if you wish to reimport teh smae rec then change your import action acc or else jsut cahnge th primary field value in the xml and a new rec will be imported.
    - As for Syndication,if you have syndicated a file once out of mdm and the suppress unchanged records property is enabled in syndicator then the same records will not be syndicated again untill any field value for those rec change. You will have to disable taht property again if you wnat to resyndicate the same rec or else make any changes in the rec to resesnd it.
    - If your issuse is something else and is not solved by this then try checking th import and syndication services on your machin.Go to services.msc and check to see that the import and syndication server is started if not restart it.
    - Also check the config file ie mdis.ini and mdss.ini for the valid entries .The delay time for scanning a port. Also check if any exception have occured in the exception folders.
    Hope It Helped,
    Thanks & Regards

  • "enable auto import" is greyed out in new cc

Previously, everytime I plugged in a SD card lightroom with automatically open up and start the import process. Since switching to CC, it isn't working this way, and the "enable auto import" is greyed out.  How do I fix this?

I had this problem and I was able to fix it by editing the Windows registry (it was only a minor edit).
I changed the value of the following registry key:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Adobe.AdobeLightroom64\shell\open\command
    The value was:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7\Lightroom.exe "%L"
    I changed it to:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom\lightroom.exe "%L"
