Lightroom 2.1 vs. Photoshop CS4 (x64 & i386)

I would like to keep both the 32 & 64 bit versions of Photoshop CS4 loaded on my machine BUT be able to EASILY specify which to use as the default "edit in Photoshop" when using Lightroom.
Right now Lightroom seems to pick the x64 version of Version of Photoshop.

If you start Photoshop before Lightroom, it will pick whatever version is currently running.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS4 (x64) problem on Windows7

Hi, everyone. I have a problem with Photoshop CS4 (x64) running on Windows7 (x64). When I try to launch x64 version I get message "Adobe Photoshop CS4 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." It was working fine before and only today it have broken. By the way, Photoshop CS4 (x86) works perfect, I can't launch only x64 version. Have you any idea how to solve this problem?
    (re-installing Photoshop don't fix it)

  • I'm running Lightroom 2.7 and Photoshop CS4 and can't open or import NEF files from a Nikon D600

Need help understanding why the NEF files created by my D700 work fine in both Lightroom 2.7 and Photoshop CS4, but the same file format created by a Nikon D600 keep getting a unkown error when I try to import or open them.

You can either upgrade Lightroom or use Adobe's Free DNG Converter to make a backwards-compatible file for LR 2.x to read. New camera support is only effected on current versions of LR and Adobe Camera Raw and your version(s) do not support the D600.

  • Keywording problem in Lightroom 2.4 and Photoshop CS4

I'm experiencing a problem with keywording in Lightroom 2.4 and Photoshop CS4. When i export a batch of photos that were keyworded in LR to the desk top then open a photo in PS I  find only one keyword when I look through the "file info" menu item.  Any ideas on how I might resolve this problem or what I may be doing wrong.
    Many thanks in advance.

Make sure that you have the keywords setup so that they will export. You can check by right clicking on a keyword in the Keyword List panel and choosing Edit Keyword Tag. The dialog shown below should open and should see a checkmark against Include on Export and Export Containing Keywords. It's fairly easy to get this wrong when working with hierarchical keywords.
Also, you can configure the Keywording panel so that it shows which keywords will be assigned when image is exported.

  • Photoshop CS4 x64 Missing Variations Plugin ?

I went crazy for a bit today trying to figure out why Variations was missing off the adjustments menu.  It turns out the plug-in wasn't listed (Photoshop CS4 x64).   BUT, it is there in the x32 version (I'm using the Master Suite).
So, how can I get that plugin for the x64 version?
What would I loose if I gave up and just used the 32-bit version of Photoshop CS4?    I'm running an i7 system with 12GB of DDR3 right now.  I have no idea how much difference it actually makes to use 64-bit Photoshop.  I can't imagine much - it's not like it's a video editor or I've seen it do anything that requires much time to process.
BTW - it there a way in Photshop to make sure all the default (included) plug-ins are there.  All I see is a massive list from either version with no way to load or un-load them.
    Thanks for any help.

Variations is an old plug-in for people who couldn't understand how to deal with a colour cast and contrast properly.
No serious user ever touches it.
However, to answer your question, you probably won't notice any difference in using the 32-bit version so, if "Variations" is important to you, go ahead and use it.
I would advise you to look at some of the tutorials on colour cast though.
Plug-ins can be removed from the plug-ins folder or de-activated with a tilde in front of the name, but I wouldn't mess with that or you will completely hose Photoshop!

  • Photoshop CS4 x64 Crashing on a super machine. Any suggestions will help.

I have installed 64bit Photoshop CS4 on Vista X64 Ultimate to go along with a setup among the following lines
    Some Asus Motherboard
    Inel Xeon E5410 2.33ghz
    32GB of Ram
    NVIDIA 9800 GT
    And  WD 500gb HD
First, Photoshop is not working as fast as I was expecting and not as fast as I need it to. Also, the main issue, at very random moments It freezes and then I have no choice but to close it. I also have a Wacom Tablet from about 3 years ago but with the latest driver. Sometimes, the mouse pointer will freeze for about 5-10 seconds and then resume. The work is very important here and I have no Idea what to do. I've done a lot of research on this and nothing concrete. I've tried installing Photoshop on different accounts, enableing OpenGL and disableing it and no luck. I will also add that I am working with massive files, anywhere in the range of 5-8 Gigs. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    Best,
    Mikhail

Did you update to PS 11.0.1 and get the latest drivers from the nVidia web site?
Are you aware of the pixel size limitations in different file formats?
Is the Wacom otherwise OK in the 64-bit environment?

  • Dowloaded Lightroom 3.  Now Photoshop CS4 will not open??

Please help. Can anyone explain why my photoshop program will not open..  I use Photoshop Bridge then double click on an image and Photoshop opens.
After I downloaded Lightroom 3 which I purchased through an on-line re-seller, I selected some images and imported them into Lightroom.
I do not understand why Photoshop CS4 does not open.
    can anyone advise me.

    What kind of files anyway?
What is the format’s »File Type Association« (check under Adobe Bridge CS4 > Prefernces)?

  • Lightroom 3.6 to photoshop CS4

I used to use Lightroom 2, a Canon 450D and Photoshop CS4.  i had no problem using Lightroom, Photo/Edit in Photoshop to open and work with my images in photoshop.  i then upgraded to Lightroom 3.6 and now use a Canon 60D camera and still use Photoshop CS4.  When i click Photo/Edit in Photoshop now, Phoshop CS4 opens but the image doesn't appear.  What can i do to rectify this?

OK things have change here. I expect you are working with raw files from your camera.
With LR 2 and PSCS4 the ACR version are in sync i.e. LR uses the equivalent of ACR 5.x and PSCS4 uses ACR 5.x.
Now LR 3.6 has the equivalent of ACR 6.6 and PSCS4 is using ACR 5.x. Since the ACR versions are not in sync you should get a warning dialog indicating that the ACR version needs to be updated in PSCS4 but this is not possible. If you are not seeing a warning dialog you need to do the following in Lightroom 3.6 go to  Edit>Preferences>General Tab> click on "Reset all warning Dialogs". You should now see a warning dialog when you select Edit in PSCS4. You should choose "edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments". This will make Lightroom create a tiff file with your adjustments and send this to CS4. ACR in PSCS4 cannot process the LR 3.6 develop settings.

  • Lightroom 3.3 and Photoshop CS4

I have noticed that on my Mac that I see a slight color shift now that I have transformed images from NEF files to   DNG files in Lightroom 3.3. When  managing a photofile, in Lightroom then editing further in Photoshop CS4 and then sending to print (Epson 3880) I see some change in color from the Color preview to the final print. Any suggestions? Prior to adding Lightroom 3.3 to my workflow this was not an issue.

PS CS 4 uses an earlier version of ACR to render files than is used by LR (no process 2010, no lens profiles, none of the new noise reduction). You can open the RAW files into PS CS 4 using ACR in the usual way, rather than using LR, as long as the RAW file is recognised by the version of ACR you have. The advantage you have by opening and rendering using LR 3 is that the process 2010 is now available as the file is rendered by LR. If you want to use files rendered as process 2010 directly in ACR you will have to upgrade to CS 5.
Either way you loose nothing my rendering in LR, irrespective of which version of PS you use. The only difference between rendering to CS 4 from CS 5 is that the new file issaved immediately rather than on save. CS 5 allows you to not save and have no new file. You always require a rendered file for use in PS as it does not directly edit RAW formats.

  • Canon Pixma Pro 9000 printer will not print for Lightroom 2.3 or Photoshop CS4

When I hit the print button on either Lightroom or Photoshop CS4 to print using the "front tray", the printer sends a message to lower the tray for the back tray.  The Canon tech rep stated that when I  hit the Print button on Lightroom or Photoshop there should be "drop down window" which allows me to choose the "front tray".  Until I do this, the printer assumes that I am still using the back tray.  My question - why doesn't my Lightroom or Photoshop programs display this "drop down window" when I press the "print" button??  Please!! Can anyone help me??

After so many attempts, I don't remember what the display was when I first requested for help.  I just trying everything that I
    could think of.
I don't think that I downloaded the right Driver the first time.  As a last resort, I downloaded the Driver again from Canon and to my surprise, another menu appeared.  It was different from the previous ones and rather confusing.  The Canon tech had described what I should bd looking for and so I proceeded ahead one drop menu after another and finally the right menu appeared giving me the choice between the automatic back tray and the front tray.  After I clicked on the front tray, everything worked fine.
Thanks, Was DYP, for taking time to attempt to help me.  It's my opinion that Canon's documentation was not complete and therefore created some confusion.

  • Photoshop CS4 slowdown when Lightroom is open...

    Hey everyone,
I am using Lightroom (x64) to manage and sort my files and my typical workflow has me editing in Photoshop (CS4 x64) from out of lightroom. I noticed at first that when I tried the new healing brush that it was a lot slower than the CS3 version of the brush. One day I was editing out of Bridge and noticed a significant speed boost while using the brush, it was working like the previous version of the brush. I pointed the finger at Lightroom, so I opened it and tried editing out of LR again. Same slow down. The only thing I can think of is that they are both using openGL and there might a conflict somewhere? LR works fine by itself and PS also work great while LR is closed. And PS works fine as long as it isn't using any of the new openGL (assumption) features, like the healing brush. If anyone else has been experiencing this and has found a solution I am all ears. My system is a Q6600, 8gb ram, ati Radeon 3850, all drivers are up to date.

In terms of RAM usage, I am fine, it's totaling around 6gb when both are running.
In terms of OpenGL, I just assumed it was. I am using LR 2 and thought that was the reason for the speed of the adjustment brush and thumbnail sizing. It seems visually obvious to me when either PS or LR does a redraw using openGL. Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I can't seem to find any documentation.

  • Mouse wheel only goes up?  in Bridge (Photoshop CS4)

I'm experiencing a problem with Bridge (CS4) where the mouse wheel only scrolls upward.   Trying to scroll down causes erratic behaviour.   If you scroll in normal speed it always returns to the top.  If you spin the mouse wheel down fast, Bridge will scroll down some then move back up a little.   No problems in any other Adobe product such as Photoshop CS4.
    Has anyone duplicated this behaviour?
    Any solution?
NOTE:  WACOM tablet mouse works correctly.
    Regards,
    Darv

Same here. When using a Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000, I can only scroll up (or left in filmstrip view). Using a Logitech mouse scrolling works OK. I have been using the Microsoft Mouse for several years on Windows Vista x86 and the scrolling has been working OK in all applications including Bridge CS4 (and Photoshop CS4, Lightroom 2.6 and so on). It is only when using Bridgde CS4 on Windows 7 x64 that I have problems with the scrolling (again scrolling works OK in Photoshop CS4 x86, Photoshop CS4 x64, Lightroom 2.6 x64 and so on).
Update: I just checked and the scrolling actually works in the side panels. It is only the film strip and in the light table that scrolling is defective.
Seems to be some kind of bug in Bridge CS4 when running on 64-bit Windows?

  • Photoshop CS4 crashes on Mac OS X 10.8.3

I have CS4 on my mac OS X 10.8.3. Photoshop CS4 is crashing all the time.
    I update it regularly.
It used to crash using layers, so i changed the  graphic settings as suggested in this forum, now this is ok.
    Now PS crashes:
    - everytime i do "save for web"
    - often when i work on text layers
    - sometimes for nothing in particular
It is really impossible to work in this conditions.
Fireworks CS4 crashes too when trying to save a file. For no special reason.
    Please help me.

  • Edit in adobe photoshop cs4 not working

    Hi there!
    I have Lightroom 2.3 & Adobe Photoshop CS4 installed.
The "edit in adobe photoshop cs4" function is not working for my RAW files (DNG). When I select "edit in adobe photoshop cs4", Photoshop is started up, but it doesn't load anything. It is working for other formats like JPG/TIF/PSD, as an -EDIT version though.
Anyone any idea? Thanks in advance!

Normally, when this happens it's because the version of Camera Raw installed with Photoshop doesn't support your camera. You haven't mentioned which camera you are using, but it's probably worthwhile downloading the latest version of Camera Raw (currently 5.3, but there's a release candidate of 5.4 available from http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Camera_Raw_5.4

  • Photoshop CS4 and nVidia 8600GT

Just installed the latest nVidia drivers (190.38), and Photoshop CS4 (x64) keeps telling me to install the latest drivers in order to take advantage of graphics card acceleration. Why is that? What am I doing wrong?
    Running a GeForce 8600GT in Windows 7 x64 RTM.

Interesting. My other computer didn't give the same error message, but that one has a slightly older model (nVidia 7900GT). I checked with its default Photoshop settings, and it turns out that "Enable OpenGL Drawing" had not been checked, unlike in the other case (the 8600GT). Hence I enabled it on this one as well, and I get the same message! So it may be that Photoshop only enabled it by default on the 8600GT because the 8600 seems to be a supported card (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405711.html#win), unlike the 7900.
At any rate, I guess I'll have to wait for newer drivers or, as you say, until they sort this one out. Many thanks.
    P.S. See also here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404898.html.
