Lightroom 2.2 locking up

Several times now after reviewing many photos and rejecting some, when I click 'delete rejected photo's' under the Photo tab... Lightroom locks up completely requiring not just a reboot, but a hard restart.... The computer can't even shut down properly...
While lightroom 2.2 is locked up, all other programs still work...
I recently cleared the cache and made my cache 5GB...
Thanks,
Javaslinger

i gotta say i'm getting pi**ed off as well with this version. i'm having the same issue with LR crashing about 5 minutes into the picture using the adjustment brush.
i've got 4 gig of ram and no other programs running. i should be able to keep CS3 open but closing then re-opening is a pain.
anyone from Adobe looking into this or are we just shouting into an empty cave?

  • Lightroom won't open - I get an error message....is open in another application.....It isn't and I can't progress from there. It allows me to open a different catalogue such as April 2015 but that has only 2 photo's in it ? Any suggestions ?

    Can anyone help ?

    1. Open Windows Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac).
    2. Open the folder that contains your Lightroom catalog.
    3. In that folder, look for a file with the .lock extension. If your catalog is named Lightroom 5 catalog.lrcat then the file will be     named Lightroom 5 catalog.lock.
    4. If you find such a file, highlight the file and delete it. You do that by pressing the delete key.
    5. Close Windows Explorer or Finder.
    6. Start Lightroom as you normally would.
In case you don't know where your catalog is located, if you are using Windows it will be located in Pictures\Lightroom. I'm not sure what the path is for the Mac.

  • Lightroom wont open!

Lightroom will not let me in! It says that another application has "lightroom catalog 4" opened....what do I need to do to access lightroom?

    Hi,
One possible (usual) cause is that the lock file remains in the catalog directory. Go to the folder where your Catlog is stored and see if there is a file "Lightroom 5.lrcat.lock" there, if it is delete it and LR will start again.

I think Lightroom 1.1 needs to be taken off the market until they fix these problems.
I just got a new Dell 690 Workstation. On my old computer I had my copy of Lightroom 1.0 and no problems at all. Installed 1.1 on my new computer and things cascaded downhill from there. Lightroom crashed Photoshop CS3, I could not open Lightroom 1.1 upon restarting my computer, got a MW32 Runtime error. Some of my newly installed plug-ins crashed. I finally called Dell Tech support, they had me do a restore my computer, that didn't fix it. I finally started working backwords to find out what was causing me this hell. I had not installed the 1.1 update until a couple of days ago and had not used the program until this morning. I am on Windows XP Pro and noticed upon reading the update info that there were Windows Vista compatibility fixes attached to this update. I don't know, but I did a system restore reverse and got back to this morning, uninstalled Lightroom 1.1, reinstalled 1.0, and everything is fine. I pity the people that bought 1.1 as their first version. I have been reading other blogs about 1.1 problems and MAC is having them too. It is crashing hard drives etc.

Make sure you don't delete any of the database/catalog files. The only file you might need to delete or remove is the preference file.
Note: database files were created by Lightroom version 1.0 and use the extension  lrdb. Subsequent versions use catalog files for the same purpose and have the extension  lrcat

If you don't mind losing some if not all of the work you have done already start a new catalog.
    To keep all existing work:
Make sure that the copied NEF files on the external have the same folder structure as previous.
Copy the Lr4 catalog to the external and launch it on the laptop by double clicking it. A copy of the catalog will get upgraded for Lr5. This will retain all your work although you will need to reconnect the Folders in the Catalog by pointing them to the new drive.
You can keep th Catalog on the EHD or move it to the Laptop.....

  • More import troubles for a Lightroom amateur..

    Hello one and all.
I've been searching for a solution to my problem for a few days now and as of yet no luck. I'm quite inexperienced with all the ins and outs and dialogs of Lightroom; I'm a very basic user, import photos, organise into sets etc and collections and then just edit.
As of the other evening, after inserting my SD card into my Mac's built in reader, Lightroom would open the import catalog and show all of the images on the card, greying out those that were previously imported and those that are due to be copied.
My lightroom is set to copy the photos over from my SD card to my pictures folder on my Macbook but for some reason, whenever I try to import any photos, it won't let me. It will bring up the import bar (top left) along with the import in progress screen. Then Lightroom decides to 'lock-up' (i think that's the term?) and won't import any photos. It doesn't freeze exactly, rather it just refuses to import them to the pictures folder. I have tried deleting my preferences and such to no avail. I also just reinstalled it and still the same problem.
BUT when I tell Lightroom to send my pictures to another folder, it works fine? I'm at a loss as this is kind of inconvinent.
    I'm running Mac OS X V10.6.8 with a 2.3GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB of 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM so the computer shouldn't even break a sweat doing it's task
I use a Canon 550D that I havent updated in a while. I just updated my EFI firmware on the Mac in vain it would help. As far as I can tell it appears to be a probelm with location? I have googled and tried a nuber of things and I'm 100% sure it's the tiniest thing but I would really appreciate some help as to what's going on. It's just one of those things that will end up confusing me until I sort it.
Any help will be muchly appreciated,
Many thanks to all in advance (even if you call me a internet n00b who doesn't know how to google)
    Ash.
oh and for the record I've been trying to google the solution for a couple of days now

What happens when you try to copy images directly from the SD card reader to a new subfolder in 'Pictures' on your HDD using the OS X Finder and NOT LR?
I know I will be flamed for what I am about to say, but so be it! I suggest never copying images from any camera or card reader directly into LR using the 'Import' module. There have been many reports (too many to count!) of users losing images, corrupting images, or simply not copying a single file, even though everything appeared to be working just fine. Yes it should work without a hitch since it is a simple operation, but it doesn't in too many cases!
I have never used LR's 'Import' module to download image files direct from a camera or with a card reader. I also have NEVER lost or corrupted a single image file, or have an image file that didn't get transferred to the exact folder location I selected. Here is my simple procedure, which takes very little additional time:
    1) Copy the image files direct from camera or a card reader to one (1) destination folder on your hard drive using Windows Explorer or Mac Finder. I use the simplest folder naming hierarchy: Camera Model (Canon 5D MKII) > Shoot Date (YYYMMDD). If the images on the card were shot over multiple days, I use the last day of the shoot. REASON: LR provides plenty of organizational tools for cataloging and adding metatdata to your image files.
Keep Image Storage Simple = KISS
    2) Open Lightroom's Import module and 'Add' the new files.
    3) Confirm the picture count for the new image files imported into Lightroom. This will be easy if you used one (1) folder with the shoot date, located under your 'Camera Model' main folder.
    4) Sort images by 'Capture Time' and check the first image file (oldest) for full functionality by verifying 1:1 preview has proper imaging in LR’s ‘Develop’ module.
    5) Repeat #4 above for the very last file (newest).
This isn't an exhaustive test, but a good "common sense" check that the image files transferred properly to your hard drive and are fully functional in LR (i.e. not corrupted).

  • Where is the Lightroom database?

I wonder whether it is correct that I have the following folders in my D:/drive:
    D:/Adobe
    - Lightroom 1.0
    - Adobe Photoshop Lightroom
    - documentation
    D:/ My Pictures
    - Lightroom
    - Backups
    - Lightroom CatalogPreviews.Irdata
    - Lightroom Metadata.Irdata
    (file) Lightroom Catalog (Ircat file)
I can not locate the original Lightroom Data base. There are data bases in the backups.

    Lee,
    Thanks for your reaction.
I was confused by the fact that on June 28 this file was called a LRDB and on July 6 a LRCAT, I assume because I updated to LR 1.1.
    * However I still wonder where I can locate the "Lightroom Database.lrdb.lock", which is referred to in the TechNote?
I Have LR with 1.1 running on laptop with Windows XP.
Plan to also place L.R. 1.1 on a new desktop with Vista Home Premium.
    * Can I install LR 1.1 by using the CD with LR program and thereafter update to 1.1?
In D:/My pictures/Lightroom I have the following sub folders:
    Backups
    Lightroom Catalog Previews.Irdata.
    Lightroom Metadata.Irdata
    Lightroom catalog
    * Do I just copy: D:/My pictures/Lightroom with its 4 sub folders to D:/ on the new PC?
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Workarounds for Lightroom crash on Import...

    Issue description
When importing or synchronizing folders in Lightroom 4, the application becomes unresponsive and Windows reports it as not working.

    Workaround
The following items each prevented the issue from occuring.
Unplug phone (android - Samsung Galaxy SII) from USB port or
    Unlock phone.
My guess is that the Import... and Folder synchronization operations invokes Lightroom to scan all storage devices including USB attached devices. Lightroom seems to choke on connected devices that has an empty volume list.
Workaround #1: Unplugging the phone removes the device from the list. Lightroom only has to deal with C:\ and D:\ partitions which are hard disk drives.
Workaround #2: In my case, unlocking the phone will allow Windows to list available volumes on the device. Lightroom probably does not know how to handle scenarios involving connected devices that has empty volume sets. Some devices may need more interactions to allow Windows to list available volumes. For me, leaving the phone unplugged was an easier workaround.

    Investigation
To investigate the issue, I reproduced the issue using procmon.exe and filtered the trace to include events with Process Name = lightroom.exe.
Scanning the trace from most recent events to oldest, I noticed a RegQueryValue operation that resulted in NAME NOT FOUND. The detail that caught my eye was that the path included "SAMSUNG_ANDROID" which indicates Lightroom is doing something that involves my Samsung Galaxy SII phone that was connected via USB -- I don't know what and why.
As a wild trial-and-error test, I unplugged the phone. As a result, the issue could no longer be reproduced -- workaround #1.The second workaround was discovered after a few minutes of trial-and-error. I don't remember what my thought process was and am currently too lazy to type any more.
If this write-up helped you, awesome. If you have a similar issue but a different workaround, please share it!

    Great!
I had the same issue, that could be resolved by your suggestion.
Actually, I renamed the module wpdmanager.mox to kill it's activity.
Disadvantage of this is that you will not be able to import files from SD card, but I copy to HDD using explorer anyway.
I totaly agree with your conjecture.

  • LR won't load catalog

    Hello,
After moving my LR catalog to a new internal hard drive, I am no longer able to load my catalog. When I run it, I get the following warning: "The Lightroom catalog folder D:\Location cannot be used because the folder does not allow files to be created within it." Check the link to see the screenshot.
I've unchecked the "read only" attribute, thinking that was the problem, but that changed nothing. Even if that were a problem, I guess I'd still be able to run it, but not change anything.
    Has anyone experienced this problem?
    Thank you!
    http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/8488/lrscreenshotld4.jpg

    Hello John,
I already changed permissions and applied it to the content as well. There was a lock file (Lightroom Catalog.lrcat.lock) in the folder, which I deleted, however, when I try to run LR, I get the same warning and the same lock file reappears. This seems to be a Windows issue, not LR, but hopefully someone will know what I need to do. What I've discovered while trying to fix this, is that if I run LR as an administrator (I run my PC as a power user), I can open the catalog. The quick fix for this would be to run LR as an admin, but that would mean that I need to move the settings from my account's folder to an admin folder.
    Thanks once again...

  • Mass storage freezing up

Here is my problem. Just a few days ago everything worked well on my macbook pro, but since some, to me, unknown event i lost capability to import photos form mass storage devices - CF cards connected via card reader. This problem affects booth Photoshop Lightroom and iPhoto.
Here is how it goes. I start up Lightroom, connect my card reader and cf card. On desktop I can see the card and access it. But when i select "Import from Device" in Lightrooms file menu, my machine freezes up. OK, not the entire machine, but Lightroom and "MassStorage" are displayed as "Non responding" in Activity monitor.
I've tried repairing permissions, and different users accounts, but id does not help, and I don't have enough free disk space outside my macbook to backup everything and create a clean install, and then import just needed things - i have over 180 GB of data (raw photos, music, etc) that i can't move anywhere.
If necessery I can post MassStorage.app sample from Activity monitor, but my guess is that only some preferences file is broken, or app file by itself, so replacing those might just help.

I believe I have resolved the issue. I was having problems with Lightroom and iPhoto locking up. I went into ~/Library/Preferences/ and removed com.apple.iPhoto.plist and com.adobe.Lightroom.plist. This issue seems to have stemmed from something withing the 10.5.5 update.

  • Importing old LR1.4 on PC into new LR5 on MAC

I have just bought a new Mac as old PC with LR1.4 did not support newest Raw files. My PC has got LR files from external hard drive which has on it 4 folders,
    Lightroom files- with folders,
Digital negatives ( 80GB), Lightroom files Previews.lr data ( 5.5GB ) and a Lightrooom files LR cat file at 151Mb and a Lightroom files.lrcat.lock at 1kb. The other 3 folders are,

    software
    My PC has on it,
    Program files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop lightroom 1.4 ( 65 MB)
I have a USB with back ups of,
    Lightroom files.LRCAT
    User manual
    Win 98 driver.
How do i get my Raw files and associated LR CAT data from external drive into the Mac and linked up, is it just a case of importing them?

Move photos and catalog (.lrcat) file (and optionally the Previews) to the Mac, keeping folder structure identical (do NOT rearrange photos or folders)
    Install LR5.
If LR5 doesn't automatically upgrade your LR1 catalog, then use File->Open Catalog and point to the LR1 catalog. When this upgarde is completed, you may have to reconnect the photos via http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm

  • Consistently crashing with 12GB Sandisk Extreme III

    Hello,
I'm having a real frustrating problem with my 12gb sandisk card. When I have Lightroom open and mount the card Lightroom will immediately lock up.
I can insert my other cards and they work fine (sandisk extreme III 2gb, sandisk ultra II 1gb)
Any idea why this is happening? And is there a way to stop it?
I am looking for a solution beyond what i've done up to this point, which is to close LR, dump the card to my desktop, then import the photos from there. It's kind of a head-ache/time-waster, and would like to figure out what's really going on.
    HELP! and thanks,

If LR crashes while in the middle of an import from the card, you will quite likely loose some data.
Perhaps you had a bad experience, but I would not expect a loss of any data caused by LR crashing during import--certainly not a "quite likely" loss.  BTW, I assume you're referring to a loss of data (corruption) on the card itself.

  • Fixed "Runtime error ... in an unsual way"

Everything was fine till one day, inexplicably, I got a
    "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    Runtime error!
... it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."
To fix the issue, I just navigated to my Lightroom directory where my LR catalog stuff resides and promptly renamed a file (in my case) "Lightroom Catalog.lrc.lock" to some junk value and then restarted LR.
I guess one could simply delete the above lock file one things are up and running again.

  • "Some Export Functions Were Not Performed"

I am running Lightroom 4.2 on Windows 8 and routinely receive the message "Some Export Functions Were Not Performed" / "File Cannot Be Written" when trying to export. I have 128GB of space available on the drive I am writing to, do not use a "Second Copy", and have full administrative rights to the drive. There were a couple times when I was able to export an image but when trying to repeat the same process they too now fail.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

    More detail...
I eliminated GoodSync, Windows 8 Photo app, and Adobe PhotoShop Elements Organizer as the root of the problems as I was still experiencing the inability to export with these services totally disabled.
I still do not know the cause of the problem but when LR4 exports a file that it said it couldn't do successfully it creates an illegitimate JPG file in the destination folder and I am unable to delete the bad JPG file because LIGHTROOM has a lock on it.
I'm wondering if it is a Windows 8 issue.
    Anyone else?

  • Change French to English

I was using Lightroom 1.0 in English but now that I have upgraded to Lightroom 1.1 , the interface is in French. That could be because I am using a French MacOS X and because I am currently in France.
How can I switch Lightroom back to English again?
If I select the software icon in the Finder and type Command + I, the languages are grayed out and I can't deselect French.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Laurent

    OK, Don, problem solved.
Here's how I was able to switch Lightroom 1.1 back to English.
Thanks to Adobe Tech Support (and Don) for their help.
First I had to manually uninstall Lightroom (there's no faster way alas). Then I had select English in the International Preferences, the I had to download the 1.1 upgrade from the US server.
I'm on Mac using Mac OSX (French), so that's precisely what I had to do:
    1. Delete the following files or folders:
    The application file: Applications/Adobe Lightroom.app
    The preference file: [username]/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Lightroom.plist
The database, the database lock file, the preview file, and the database backups:
    * [Username]Pictures//Lightroom/Lightroom Database.lrdb
Important: Deleting the Lightroom Database.lrdb file deletes your library database!
    * [Username]Pictures//Lightroom/Lightroom Database.lrdb.lock
    * [Username]Pictures//Lightroom/Lightroom Previews.lrdata
    * [Username]Pictures//Lightroom/Lightroom/Backups folder
Presets and templates: [Username]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom folder
    Registration data: Library/Application Support/Lightroom/Lightroom 1.0 Registrations folder
    Library/Receipts/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.pkg
    2. Go to "Préférences Système" (System Preferences), choose International, Select English as a language (drag it to the top of the list).
    3. Download the Lightroom 1.1 from the US site (maybe that can be done from an Adobe European site too, as there seems to be only one version of 1.1 for English, French and German).
Anyway, this is how I was able to upgrade to Lightroom 1.1 and keep the software in English although I am currently located in France.
    Hope this helps.
