Lightroom 2.5 export loses "Date Photo Taken" date in Windows

Anyone else having the problem where the Windows file created by the Export option creates a .JPG file that no longer retains the "Date Photo Taken" date in the new file.
This is bad because I can no longer sort files based on when they were taken.
The original (Raw or JPG) files have this information in their file headers, but the new JPG created by Export does not have this.
Is there any way to retain this data?

John,
That was my problem!  Thank you so much!
I was seeing the problem with the JPG files that were created by the Export command.  Since I was later adding tags and keywords with Elements, I was concerned when all the shoot information was being wiped.
The box was indeed checked, and unchecking it fixed the problem.
Thank you!

  • When I import photos taken from my Windows PC using a flash drive, the photos in iPhoto are dated as the date last modified on PC instead of date picture taken.

When I import photos to my iMac, taken from my Windows PC using a flash drive, the photos in iPhoto are dated as the date last modified on PC instead of date picture taken.

Then you need to ask a PC forum how to export the photos there to include the Metadata (specifically the EXIF data)
If there is valid EXIF data iPhoto uses it (the EXIF data is originally added to the photo by the digital camera) and if there is no EXIF data then the only inofrmaiton IPhoto have available is the file metadata and that is what is used
You can correct the dates in iPhoto using the batch change data/time command

  • Date creation is different from date photo taken in Finder

    Hello,
I didn't know where to post this question. When I import photos from my Canon T3i and my iPhone4, the creation date of the photo is the date imported, not the date I took the photo. While in Finder, if I look at the photo information, the creation date is the date the photo was imported (for both the Canon and iPhone photos). I'm trying to understand why this is happening.  When I import the photos into iPhoto9, the date I took the photo is there. While that seems like the solution, it isn't since I don't import all photos into iPhoto. If I look at the photos on the memory card, the date is correct. The only time the creation date is not correct is when I import on to my iMac or MacBook.
I'm using Snow Leopard and have no plans to upgrade to Lion.
Thanks for your help and I apologize if I posted this question in the wrong discussion group.

    Another go at explaining it:
There are two kinds of metadata involved when you consider  jpeg or other image file.
One is the file data. This is what the Finder shows. This tells you nothing about the contents of the file, just the File itself.
The problem with File metadata is that it can easily change as the file is moved from place to place or exported, e-mailed, uploaded etc.
Photographs have also got both Exif and IPTC metadata. The date and time that your camera snapped the Photograph is recorded in the Exif metadata. Regardless if what the file date says, this is the actual time recorded by the camera.
Photo applications like iPhoto, Aperture, Lightroom, Picasa, Photoshop etc get their date and time from the Exif metadata.
When you export from iPhoto to the Finder new file is created containing your Photo (and its Exif). The File date is - quite accurately - reported as the date of Export. However, the Photo Date doesn't change.
The problem is that the Finder doesn't work with Exif.
So, your photo has the correct date, and so does the file, but they are different things. To sort on the Photo date you'll need to use a photo app.

  • Searching by Date photo taken

I am trying to use Spotlight to search for photos taken within a specific range. Nothing seems to work, however. The problem is that the Date Created field applied to the file itself and is different than the date recorded in the EXIF data and sometimes it is even blank. I have gone through the "other" items available in spotlight and tried "Date content created" and a few others, but nothing works.
Is it possible to search using spotlight for the date the photo was taken?

Automator can be used but it's not obvious (and it still involves the touch command)
Use one of the Finder "Get ..." or "Ask.." actions then use the "Run Shell Script" action from the Automator library and put in the commands for touch that you need. I tried it on a couple files on my system, it took a few tries to get the "touch" syntax right, but once you do, you're set and you can drop whole folders or multiple files onto it.
I don't use AppleScript but I assume it's possible to create a script that will change the file date stamps.
I checked the SanDisk card I use with my Kodak Easyshare camera and found that it also uses FAT16 and that it DOES record the file's creation and modified dates. I can only guess that your camera isn't recording these dates
We're getting off topic here though. You might want to try the Automator forum or check with Canons website to see if they have any FAQs about dates or using with Macintosh
I know it isn't a perfect solution, but hope it helps

  • Removing "photo taken" date before printing

I am using Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0, and forgot to turn off the "date taken" feature on my camera. Is there a way to remove or delete this date before I print the picture? Thanks!

Sorry, removing that corruption of the image cannot be done automatically. Careful retouching [using Photoshop Elements, for example] can get rid of it on some images. Best tjing is to turn off the stupid facility and learn from the experience.

  • Is there a way to export a contact photo taken with my iPhone.

Right after I gave my wife her iPhone I snapped a picture of her directly into her contact listing in my iPhone. I assumed that it would show up in the photo program, but it doesn't. I cannot find any way to export or import the photo.
I can see the photo in Contacts on my iPhone and Address Book on my Mac, but don't see a way to export it there either.
    Any ideas?

It worked for me to just drag it from my contacts list to iPhoto. Then you can export it from iPhoto.

  • How do I get rid of dried water marks and dirt from photos taken through Airline windows?

I recently bought Photoshop Elements 5. I use it to process mostly Aviation photographs that I take as a hobbyist. I have a Windows PC and use XP Media Center Edition. When flying around the world, I usually take photos of airports, aircraft and scenery through the window of the aircraft that I am on. Most times the windows on commercial airliners are dirty, scratched up, have sun glare or have dired water marks. Is there a way in PS Elements 5 or other PS software to remove the layer containing the window of the aircraft so that what is left is the beautiful picture I am trying to take? If it is possible, can anyone be kind enough to show me how on a step by step basis or point me to books, texts or tutorials where this topic is covered?
    Thank you
    Ken.

    > Is there a way in PS Elements 5 or other PS software to remove the layer containing the window of the aircraft so that what is left is the beautiful picture I am trying to take?
Not on this planet. Image data from a camera is on just one layer - whether it's what you want to photograph or stuff that got in the way.
You could certainly retouch the photo to improve matters, but that can be a lengthy process requiring a lot of practice and skill.

  • I'm losing date photo was taken when exporting from Lightroom.

The photo taken date is being replaced with the date that I'm processing the photo with Lightroom.  The photos I'm currently working with were taken over 10 years ago with an early generation Olympus digital camera.  Does this have anything to do with my problem?  I must be doing something incorrectly, can anyone give me advice.  T

Rob - I am working with old images from an early generation digital camera but yes the image capture date does show correctly in Lightroom for most of these images.  However, I just realized thinking about your question that some of the photos could be scanned from a film image and do not how a capture date in Lightroom.  The exif data is entirely different for these.  The photo processors I used in those days were providing a CD along with the negatives / prints so I may have just answered my own question.  Thanks for the questions and help to both.

  • HT1414 Can you restore photos taken on new phone before I restored via iTunes?

    Hi
Just been in the Apple store as my phone was faulty and had an exchange for a new one - took a few photos over lunch then got home and restored my back-up - but didnt realise I would lose the photos taken at lunch - is there any way I can find them or restore? No, no other back-up was done, just didnt think the photos would be erased/ disappear! Doh!
    Thanks

    No. They're gone.

  • How can I add date to photos taken on my iphone 4s

How can I add a date to photos taken on my iphone 4s?

That's correct - Photos supports geotagging, but only allows viewing of that information. Once an image is in Photos, geotags cannot be added, deleted, or edited. This post suggests some apps for editing geotags outside of the Photos app. As you mentioned, you can edit the geotags in iPhoto, export to the finder and then import to Photos. I would guess (and hope!) we'll see this added in an update, and hopefully soon!

  • When I export photos, the dates are sometimes changed

When I export photos from iPhoto, the date information seems to get lost for some of my photos.  For example, I have an event with four photos taken on January 30, 2006.  In iPhoto they show up with that date.  When I export the original photos from the event, I get jpeg image files with a creation date of January 1, 2000, and with no date information in the EXIF data.
I understand that the creation date of the file may not be date/time that the photo was taken, but in that case the info should be in the EXIF data, shouldn't it?  iPhoto has that data somewhere. How do I get it to export it?
This only happens with some of my photos, btw.
    I'm using iPhoto '11, version 9.4.3.

If you changed the dates in iPhoto then when you did it you had the option to write to the Original. You could try that again, say, adding an hour to the time or somesuch, and this time check the box to 'Modify Original Files'.
Otherwise, exporting the originals will export precisely that... Tha files as imported.
Current has poor support for metadata. That's what you get from a media browser - so it's designed for dragging images into word processing documents or a casual email to grandma - in other words times when the exif doesn't matter.
If you export as Jpeg (or tiff) you should get the dates.

has details of the options in the Export dialogue.

  • How to add a new metadata field to iPhoto where new field is calculated as age in years and month based on a specific date and the date photo was taken ? I want to calculate and display the age of my two kids on every photo.

    Hi
How can I add 2 new metadata-fields to every photo in iPhoto ?
The new fields should state the age of my kids in years and months based on the date that they were born and the date that photo is taken.
    Exampel:
    My son is born 01.01.2010
    My daughter is born 01.01.2012
    Photo taken by data
    Aage of son
    Aage of daughter
    01.07.2011
    1 year 6 month
    not born yet
    01.01.2014
    4 year 0 month
    2 year 0 month
I would like to be able to search by kids age and get the info displayed when doing slideshows.
How to do this in iPhoto ?
Any alternatives to accomplish the same ?
    Kind regards

It can't be done with iPhoto.  There are some DAM (digital asset management) applications that can write to other IPTC fields that iPhoto can't read. One such app is Media Pro 1.
However you would have to calculate the age for each date and add it to one of the fields. There are online age calculators that can do that for you: Age Calculators
If you go thru that much trouble then use iPhoto, make the calculations and add the age to the Description field.  Then you can use Smart Albums to search for 1year 6 month text.

  • Having arranged some scanned pictures in an album in I-Photo how can I keep them in the order I have chosen when I move the album. They all have the scan date and not the taken date and move to new positions if I move them from one album to another.

Having arranged some scanned pictures in an album in I-Photo how can I keep them in the order I have chosen when I move the album. They all have the scan date and not the taken date and move to new positions if I move them from one album to another.
Is there any way to re-number them in the order I have chosen so that they can then be sorted by number? The scans are all from pre-digital images that I wish to move to a photobook and I don't want to have to organise them twice!
    Thanks for any suggestions.

I was a bit short, Chris, sorry. It is limited, what can be posted, when typing on an iPad.
Now I am back on my Mac. I meant the following:  Batch Change the date for a large range of photos, that should have a date stepped in increments.
Select all Photos at once and use the command "Photos > Batch Change".
Then set the date for the first photo and select an increment, e.g. one minute.
Now all photos will get a new date assigned, incremented by one minute, in the sequence you have selected. So you will be able to sort them by date.  This way it will be unnecessary to change the titles or filenames.

  • How to find a selection of photos taken at different dates but imported together. I want them in the same album but they're no longer in the "last import" album.

I imported a bunch of photos taken at different dates that i wanted to group together in the same album but they are not in the "last import" album and are all just mixed in with "all photos" according to the dates they were taken and it's impossible to sift through them all to select the ones i wanted.

Sorry I'm terrible at explaining and even using my macbook haha. Let me try again. I imported some photos that I wanted to group together into an album. I forgot to create the album before importing a new set of photos which then took the place of the previous ones in the "last import" album. Is there anywhere or any way I can easily find the selection of photos I forgot to put into an album together without having to select them one by one from the "all photos" section? These would be the only pictures in my Photos application that haven't been organized into an album yet if that helps; however, these photos were not taken on the same date.

  • I have made a burn folder with photos exported from I-photo.  It now shows in information, that the date is created and modified is different from the original digitized date.  How can I get the original date to show in the info from Finder?

I have made a burn folder with photos exported from I-photo.  It now shows in information, that the date  created and modified is different from the original digitized date.  How can I get the original date to show in the info from Finder?

The Finder reports File information. The date and time of the photo are in the Photo's Exif metadata. The Finder has no awareness of this. All photos apps on any system do.
