Lightroom 2.5 is crashing my entire OS....

I recently rebuilt my entire pc with a quad core processor and 4GB of RAM.  I am still running windows XP 32 bit, however.  I have absolutely no issues of crashing from any other program.  I can process 50+ images in CS3 using the Topaz Adjust plug in and it will eat up a ton of memory in the process.  However, while editing images in LR 2.5 it started to just crash.  Then, I would get a LR crash whil exporting.  At first, no big deal I just restarted LR and went back to work.  Now, LR is crashing my entire OS.  There have been three crashes with no blue screen and two with the blue screen.  The first BSOD stated memory_management.  After some research I upgraded my power supply.  Well, just hours after the new power supply I got another BSOD and it was a 0x8E stop code and the ONLY program I was working with was LR.  So, just to test things out I did disk check...no errors....RAM test....no errors....no viruses....nothing but system crashes while working with LR 2.5.
The problem with these crashes is that it crashes the system before it can create a crash dump file.  I did find one error report that the failing module was the ui.dll.
Should I uninstall the entire program and download an earlier version?
Should I just wait until I can upgrade to a 64 bit OS?
Or, is there something I am doing wrong when working in LR to cause it to eat up so much memory?
Thanks in advance,
TG

>> I'm almost certain because I literally just got my pc back on the 22nd of last month.  The techs said they updated every driver I had to the most up to date one.  My video card is Radeon HD 4350.  The driver ver is 8.640.0.0 and has not changed recently.
>>
>> I should give a little more history....I have a virus and the techs completely repaired by entire OS.
>
Repaired, or they completely wiped the HD, and re-installed everything
from cratch? Depending on how bad the virus is, I wouldn't trust that
that all the hooks that a virus can get into your system have been
completely removed. A wipe and re-install is always the best
procedure, with a virus-infected PC.
>
>> I had just bought LR 2.5 and had not even used it once.  I got the pc back issue free with an entirely repaired OS.  All programs run without fail except LR.
>
Any of them stress the video driver?
>
I'd try uninstalling the driver for the video, and just using the
generic MS video driver. And see if it works then.

I assume you know where your catalogue file (the lrcat file) is located. In the same folder is a previews lrdata folder which you should delete or rename in Explorer, then start LR again.
If I've made incorrect assumptions above, sorry, and we'll go back over it from the start.

  • Illustrator and photoshop 2014 work perfectly, while Indesign crashes the entire operating system (mac osx 10.7)

    Hi all,
Recently updated to CC 2014, and while both Illustrator and Photoshop run perfectly, every time I launch Indesign it crashes my entire operating system, forcing me to restart the computer.
I'm running Mac OS 10.7. Should also mention that clean unistall/install did nothing to fix the issue.
Anyone else having the same issue? Please help.

    Hi Sumit
Why can’t I have any answer from Adobe? I bought a licence and now I can’t work with the software.

  • Firefox crashes the entire computer

For roughly the last year, Firefox has been crashing my entire computer, causing the system to hang and then shut down unexpectedly.
I have been able to narrow down the source of these crashes specifically to Firefox over the past few months.
I have a Dell XPS 8000 bought January 2010 with an i7 860 2.80Ghz and 16GB RAM, running Windows 7 64-bit. The crashes I receive only occur when Firefox is running and occur anytime between 5 mins of running FF up to 30 mins. I have tested this with nothing running except for FF and still receive crashes.
I use CoreTemp to monitor each core and none of them go above 50 C at the time FF crashes. I can run video playlists on Winamp, sync my iPad with iTunes as it updates several apps, use AutoGK and WinFF simultaneously to convert video, and have Chrome running with 5-8 tabs open and never receive this crash. I've also pushed the system further by having all the above running as well as CS3 Photoshop and Dreamweaver and mimic a server with Xampp and even then, my system will run just fine, albeit with temps in the high 70s.
I've only received these crashes only with Firefox running. To fix this, I've run fresh installations of Firefox twice and then today, since I've been running the same profile info since before 3.5, I backed up my bookmarks, completely uninstalled and then reinstalled FF without any of my addons, and in the middle of recreating my normal tabs and pinned tabs, received the same old crash. As a last resort, I let go of all my bookmarks and began adding them all individually, and once again, received the same crash; this last test was when I had nothing but FF running and temps below 50 C.
I am terribly frustrated by this issue because I am writing this from an HP laptop running FF with a profile that's been used since 3.5 and I can run FF and Minecraft on this laptop with no problems at all. I also have the same FF profile ported over to my Macbook Air and no issues there either.
I'm at a loss as to what could be causing this problem or how I can go about fixing it and any help would be greatly appreciated.

pffft same problem here just keeps on happening. Im running some pretty grunty games and my system is ok. as soon as Im using FF for a while my computer freezes. its only when I use FF. Ive checked computer health. Diagnostics, checked for malware and checked drivers. just cant figure it out. any takers?

  • Why is Facebook constantly crashing my entire system?

For weeks now Facebook (Mafia Wars) has crashed my entire Linux Mint system as it totally freezes.
Rebooting is my only option. The problem can be when simply loading Maria Wars, sometimes when using various features - nothing consistent.
Firefox in Windows XP(sp3) the crashing is less severe but is still bad in Mafia Wars.
No doubt, Mafia Wars is the issue but Chrome in Mint and XP works fine. Any advice guys as this issue is spoiling the use of Firefox.

Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
From the top menu bar, select
    View ▹ Columns ▹ # Ports
if not already selected. Click the heading of the Ports  column in the process table to sort the entries by port usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process?

    Hi Bryan ,
It happens when you save it as an Adobe PDF or a normal PDF?
Happens with all the files or any specific one?
What exact version of Acrobat are you using?
Try updating it to the latest one if it is an older one.
You may also want to uninstall and re install it to check.
Let us know how it goes.

  • Lightroom 4.1 keeps crashing with an error message.

Sorry, new to the forums and Lightroom. Please bear with me.
Lightroom 4.1 keeps crashing. I can't get any editing done on my client's photos. I get an error message (no error number given) stating something along the lines of "encountered an error ad must close."
I would be extremely grateful for any help offered.
    Thank you in advance!

Any changes to your system lately?
You may want to remove LR 4.1 and install the latest 4.x version which is 4.4.1 Windows / Mac and is a free update.
This will not harm your data.

  • Lightroom 4 is crashing and corrupting files. it also crashes my entire system sometimes. I'm on windows 7 64x, Intel 5 4670, 16gb ram.

I've tried reinstalling it. Didn't help. It crashed when I was exporting 111 photos, then I only did 20 at a time and it didn't crash, but it crashed 4 times while I was editing the session. What should I do?

I tested it, its fine...my whole system is fine. Lightroom is the only
program that acts like this. Otherwise my system is good to go.What else?

  • Lightroom 2.6 Update Crashing

Now restoring between the LR and vista SP2 update. I was also wondering who else, if any are having problems like this

  • Lightroom 5.3 email crashing problem

If i try to e-mail from lightroom 5.3 on my windows 7 machine I get the cryptunprotectdata error.  If I select go to email account manager, lightroom crashes.

Okay, I just figured-out a fix.  DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
    1.  Close Lightroom.
    2.  Find your Lightroom preferences file named "Lightroom 5 Preferences.agprefs" which is located in "C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences" on Windows 7.
    3.  Make a backup copy of it in case you screw something up.
    4.  Open "Lightroom 5 Preferences.agprefs" in a good text editor (such as Notepad++) and find all lines that looks something like this (try searching for "export.email"):
    ["pw_pw_com.adobe.lightroom.export.email_AllAccounts_email_accounts"] = "AQAAANCMnd8BFdERjHoAwE/Cl+sBAAAAlezZ/P8jyUy/dnidXQPl6AAAAAAIAAAAcABzAHcAAAAQZgAAAAEAACAA AADU4E/WWf42luMfVxsjG4FgXYT2gEY4dky+sIg3YWzaPwAAAAAOgAAAAAIAACAAAAAt9FgiOe/XwrOqOklQ1ispW7 9ilywachqmXjzCVhniT1AAAACgiv+dHU+w+AjM+6bAL8x1HOHuXWkl8JCYn5Y0XpbjkB3bReIHopkECoI8iLEJqsL5 R9lCq0RxPmJ8MT8/Kyc+lWbbmc7D0nL8615r2ta6qUAAAABOn9CQGy9CtQh/lKVrMLUnstQhwbwxQEuVFm89RcJXSk y3tISiBjdp0/pl1ODEehfXAxrH4g8wUYwWyI+xxPoA",
There should be one line for each email account that you have set up in LR.
    5.  Delete the entire line, including the trailing comma.
    6.  Save and close "Lightroom 5 Preferences.agprefs".
    7.  Open Lightroom and *POOF* you should be able to open the email account manager dialog and re-enter your password.  At least, it worked for me.
I suspect that what happened is that the "cryptunprotectdata" error is related to an attempt to un-encrypt the email password for one (or more than one) email accounts that are stored in the preferences file.  For some reason, possibly because of a change to the system (in my case a PC crash and complete re-install of the OS and all apps) the decryption process fails and the failure is not properly handled by LR.  By deleting this line (or these lines) from the preferences file, you are essentially removing the stored password credentials and LR will prompt you for them again when you attempt to edit the email account settings.
    Good luck!

  • Firefox will not open at all on macbook pro and then crashes mac entirely.

My firefox wont open when I've clicked the icon, though there is a little blue light underneath it. I've installed and re-installed it and still not working. When I do click the icon in the dock my entire macbook freezes and I have to manually restart it. I'm afraid my knowledge of stuff like this is exceedingly limited, I've read through numerous problem solving posts but I just don't understand the instructions others have given. This has previously happened to my firefox and i renamed the .exe(?) file and that made it work but I can't remember how I did it/can't find the post that helped me. I'm sorry to be so basic but I don't know anymore and want my browser working again!

You won't want Firefox to be a .exe file, thats for windows. Make sure its extension is .app. You can do this by going to Finder>Applications>Firefox>the right click and click the "Get Info" button. Then, about halfway down will be the file name with the extension. Change it to Firefox.app if it is not already like that.
Also, you can check out this [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-keeps-crashing-startup support article] if this doesn't help.
    Have a great day!!
