Lightroom 2.5 to CS5

Hi
Can any one throw any light on the fact that Lightroom  is saying that it cant find photoshop. If I go to use control+E to go to CS5 nothing happens, and if you go to photo in lightroom and look under edit in Photoshop is greyed out..
Any help very welcome..

    Any ideas?

My student has been using Lightroom 4 with Photoshop CS5 on her Mac for well over a year. Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images from Lightroom and choosing the "Render using Lightroom option when it popped up in the dialogue box. She has been doing this for over a year and a half without any problem. Today when she hit Command E no dialogue box appeared and the image just opened in Photoshop. I'm concerned that all of her Lightroom edits are not being rendered to Photoshop. Anyone have an idea as to how we can get the "Render using Lightroom" dialogue back?

  • I cannot open files directly from Lightroom 4 into Photoshop CS5.

I recently changed to new Macbook Pro and uploaded my Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS5.
Now when I go to 'Photo - Edit in - Photoshop' in Lightroom 4. Photoshop opens. But no image appears.
I've updated the Camera Raw reader but this hasn't helped.
Anyone got a suggestion that might help?
I have been making attempts to download updates for my Photoshop PS5 but after 4 attempts I get the same failed window asking me to try later.
    Anyone any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

It is important to understand how Lr works.
Lr displays photos only when they are imported into Lr. A (seeming) exception is for a Raw image that is edited in Photoshop and <Saved> to the default settings that you selected in external editing of Preferences in Lr. So if the default setting is for PSD and you just hit <Save> in Photoshop, a PSD will be created and automatically imported back into Lr so that it will be displayed there. So, this is not really an exception from the rule that an image has to be imported into Lr - it is an automatic import. This automatic import works only for the <Save> to the default settings;it does not work when you do a <Save As> and select a different file format than the default setting. In your case you did a <Save as> to create a JPG. This JPG will not be automatically imported into Lr, you have to import it manually - either through the Import Dialog or by <Synchronize Folder>.
Apart from that, and as JimHess said, why do you create a JPG in Photoshop from the same file? If you need a JPG, in Lr just export your PSD as a JPG when you need it.
I often need JPGs from my file, but I create them only when needed by exporting them to a folder of my choice. Usually I delete them after a while. I don't see a reason why I should have JPGs sitting around on my hard drive(s). They can be created again (from the Raw files or from PSD's/Tiffs) if the need arises.

  • Can I Extract a Frame from a Video (in Lightroom 3 or Photoshop CS5)?

I'm running Windows 7 and have Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5.  Extracting a frame from a .MOV file is way over my head, but I want to try.  Right now the file is in Lightroom, but the "Open in" options are grayed out.  I have exported the file to my desktop, and  I can play the video with Windows Media Player.  I bet somewhere, somehow there is a way to do what I want.  Any help, ideas or references would be much appreciated!

When you say "Extract a frame", do you mean saving one of the frames as an image from Photoshop?
    Here's what you can do:
    1. Open the video in Photoshop, File > Open, and choose the .mov file.
    2. Once the video opens in Photoshop, open the Animation panel, Window > Animation
    3. In the Animation panel move the playhead to the desired frame, and save it as an image, File > Save As.
    and Voila!
Any questions, just ask. I'll be more than happy to help.

  • I installed CS6 and now Lightroom doesn't show CS5 as an Edit option

I installed CS6 and now Lightroom doesn't show CS5 as an Edit option. CS5 is still installed on my computer. How can I add it to Lightroom Edit options?
    Mac 10.6.8

You can add CS5 as an "Additional External Editor" on the External Editing Tab of the Preferences panel. See this screenshot, I have Photoshop CS5 as my prime editor, and have added CS3 as an additional external editor:
Then when you use "Edit In...." you'll see both options available..

  • Opening Lightroom images in photoshop cs5 ACR

Is there any way to edit Lightroom 3.0 images in Photoshop Cs5 ACR? If I choose Edit in Photoshop the image goes directly to photoshop and bypasses ACR. I have tried creating an ACR option in Preferences but cant find the ACR file. Can anyone help?

No...and there is no reason to do so. Lightroom and Camera Raw share the exact same processing pipeline–assuming you are using the same rev version. The only way to take a raw image into Photoshop and use the Camera Raw dlog is to open as a Smart Object which will give you the SO version of Camera Raw inside the Photoshop document.

  • Compatibility issues with mac OS - Lightroom 4 works where CS5 won't

Hope someone can shed some light on this issue...
I tried installing Lightroom 4 on Mac OS 10.6.1 (which is currently running CS5 without issues) but the specs call for OS 10.6.8 or later (10.7). When I updated my OS to 10.6.8, none of my CS5 apps work! They encounter launch errors - InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver... only Photoshop seems to work. So, I reverted back to OS 10.6.1 and all the programs function. Is Adobe working on a solution to fix this issue? I see with the forums that several other users have noted the same issue with CS5 not working in the OS 10.6.8 environment. I don't want to upgrade my OS just to have Lightroom function, but none the CS apps. I was thinking of partitioning my HD to load both OS, but that shouldn't be the workaround. I am very disappointed that I've purchased Lightroom 4 and now am unable to use it due to compatibility issues with the OS with the rest of CS5.0.

Pixelzboy are you receiving any specific errors when launching your applications under 10.6.8?  CS5 should work just fine with 10.6.8 as well as 10.7.3.  You may also want to post to the product specific forums with your launch errors as the users in those forums will be more familiar with troubleshooting steps specific to those products.

  • Issues transfering photos from lightroom 4 to PS CS5 with edits

I recently upgraded from lightroom 3 to lightroom 4 for mac, and when I open up raw images that I have edited in lightroom as smart objects in photoshop CS5 (which I also just bought) to apply some finishing touches to my photos, none of the edits I made in lightroom transfer over or appear on the image that opens in photoshop. Instead, the unedited version of the photo appears in photoshop. I have never had this problem before, especially before I upgraded my software. Did I accidentally hit a button or something?! I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong on my end. Please advise (the sooner the better, I have a whole gang of wedding photos due to a client tomorrow)! Thank you in advance.

Lightroom uses a database for edits and keyworrds.  Bridge and Photoshop writes the info. to the image or to an XMP flle.  So to be compatable you have to write metadata to file.
Here is link to recent post that describes the process.  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/991608?tstart=30

  • Lightroom 3 and CS4/CS5

I recently upgraded both LR and Photoshop.  I upgraded Photoshop from CS4 to CS5, but I kept CS4 on my machine.  I also upgraded LR to LR3 (but did not keep the old LR version).  LR3 still uses Photoshop CS4 as the primary Photoshop editor.  I'd like to use CS5 as the primary editor.  Is there any way around this?  Thx.

Also, you might want to install the LR 3.3 release candidate. The release notes claim there's a fix related to this issue:
Lightroom 3 could fail to launch Photoshop CS5 if Photoshop CS4 was uninstalled after the Photoshop CS5 installation
Although LR 3.3 RC is technically a beta, not major bugs have been reported in the two days since it has been released.

  • Sync between Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5

I continue to have problems with updating the Lightroom 3 catalog.  Yesterday I highlighted 4 icons of CR2 files and opened them in CS5 to do a photomerge. I saved the result as a psd file then as a jpeg file in the same directory that the CR2 files were stored. On returning to Lightroom, those files were not in the catalog so I went ahead and imported them into the catalog.  No luck--still no icons.  The original files had been tagged with a keyword so I highlighted the keyword and then clicked the right arrow next to the keyword.  The icons then appeared but after another minor edit in Photoshop they disappeared. I wanted to copy the jpeg to Flickr and eventually did so but it took multiple steps of closing Lightroom, choosing the keyword, filtering the files before I got it done.
I am relatively new to Lightroom but worked extensively in PSE 6 and earlier versions and do not remember having anywhere like the problems I have experienced with Lightroom.  My impression is that Lightroom is designed for a specific workflow, not to serve as a reliable database to keep file versions and edits easily accessible.

I finally figured out where the edited files went--to a higher level subdirectory.  Lightroom was not happy with my directory structure which had the pictures in subdirectories three levels below the /User/xxx/Pictures directory in Windows 7. Importing images always required choosing the correct subdirectory and apparently this problem carried over when I sent images to Photoshop and saved changed versions.  I did find the specific option to send to Photoshop to create a panorama and that process worked correctly to place the panorama in the original directory.
Anyway, having struggled with this mess I spent quite a bit of time moving images to a higher level subdirectory.  Do you have any insight into why Lightroom chokes on what worked perfectly well with Photoshop Elements?

  • Lightroom 5 compatibile with CS5

I've loaded Lightroom 5.2 and when I send a raw file to CS5 a message pops up "Lightroom may require Camera Raw 8.2 for compatibility". I attempted to download 8.2 and it said I needed Adobe Application Manager, which is part of the cloud and is not compatible...Has anyone else run into this?

Camera Raw 8.2 is only compatible with Photoshop CC and Photoshop CS6 (on a limited basis).  It won't do you any good to get the application manager because it won't work with what you have.  Your best option is to allow Lightroom to render a copy with Lightroom adjustments and send that to Photoshop.

  • Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS5.5

If I upgrade Lightroom from 3.6 to 4, but leave Photoshop at CS5.5, will there be any problems with Camera Raw? Will I end up with two versions of Camera Raw or any incompatibility between the new Camera Raw and CS5.5?
    I have Windows 7 x64.
    Thanks

Got a partial answer from chat. Will now just do it.

You will not get two versions of the ACR plugin itself installed, because LR incorporates this internally within its program. CS5.5 and its own ACR will be unaffected.
However the communication method between the new LR and your PS version, and also the nature of adjustments saved by LR onto images which are then opened into PS, will suffer some reduced compatibility compared with how you work now.
There are options for passing images from LR to PS, whereby LR renders its adjustments into a bitmap file which PS then opens directly (completely bypassing ACR) - and in that case, ACR support of Raws or editing metadata becomes accordingly moot. LR steps fully into this role, in other words.
This workaround does restrict the functions of passing multiple images for HDR or stitching or as layers.
It also impairs the use of Smart Object workflow since embedded image data may have LR4 edits saved onto it, which cannot be properly used when the Smart Object is later opened into the older-version ACR for further adjustment.
Where a particular image has been worked on inside LR4 using the older process version (2010) - which is fully LR3-compatible (as your current ACR is also) - there will in that special case, be the same compatibility of metadata and adjustments as you currently experience. In effect, for that particular image, LR4 emulates LR3.

  • Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5 don't work together

    Hello,
I recently updated from PS CS4 to PS CS5 and Lightroom 2.7 to Lightroom 3.
Everything went smoothly and i'm very happy with performance overall.
The only problem that i'm having is that now in Lightroom the "Edit in Photoshop" is greyed out. I can still edit the preferences for this option but i cannot choose the option when i want a photo to go to PS.
I can still edit in Photoshop if i use it as an "another external edit program", but my question is how do i get the two programs aware again of each other?? So i can edit in photoshop as a smart object again. I updated ACR to the latest version.
My computer runs a copy of Win7 64-bit Ultimate.
    Thanks

  • Editing from Lightroom 4 to Photoshop CS5

    HELP!
My Lightroom 4 is not working great these days.
1 - When importing my photos from my memory cards, my "Catologue" area in Lightroom is GONE, no where to be found. How can I recover this!? It was pretty important to me to have this option.
2 - When I am wanting to edit a Lightroom 4 photo (CR2 file) into Photoshop (CS5), it wont work. What will happen is Photoshop will open, that photo I edited WONT save back into my Lightroon Library, it will save into my "PICTURES" section on my MAC laptop. What I want it to do, as its done before, is save it as a edited JPEG right back into LIGHTROOM so all my images are together. This is getting extremely frustrating !! I NEEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET PLEASE ANYONE!

  • Lightroom Linked to Photoshop CS5 32 Bit not 64 Bit

    Hello.
On my computer I have Lightroom 3.6 64-bit, Photoshop CS5 32-bit and 64-bit. When I'm in LR and click to edit in Photoshop, LR brings up the 32-bit version rather than the 64-bit version. What can I do to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Chris,
As a workaround, you could bring up Photoshop 64-bit manually and leave it running. I think that when you do an Edit in Photoshop, LR will send the file to that one.
