Lightroom 2.5 Workflow - Multiple Users

Cheers!  But not so much for me.  I am befuddled.  Here is the scenario:  I have more than one lightroom user on more than one desktop that needs to be able to work with the same set of images from a photo shoot.  The images are on a network drive but I am having a devil of a time with ensuring the metadata is current for each user.  So, as I understand the workflow (and I assume I have this wrong), I have set the preferences so that the metadata is written to the file each time it is updated.  When a user is finished with the images in a filmstrip I am having them write the metadata to the file, and each time a user works on a different file, I am having them read the metadata from the file before starting work, and everybody is talking back and forth about who the current owner of the file is.  This is sloppy and tedious at best.  Can someone point me in the direction of a better way!  Thank you.  Travis

Hi Travis!
First and foremost you have to understand that LR is NOT a multi-user application. So, knowing that it becomes a discipline issue when multiple users are working on the same set of images.
Since the catalog cannot be located on a network drive each of them must have a copy on their local drives. The original images can reside on the network. And here is where your problems start.
The basics you outlined are good. You just need to make sure that one, and only one, user at a time works on the catalog. Reading and writing the metadata is a must. However, another thing to keep in mind is that not all the data about an image is stored in the image file. There are some items that are stored in the catalog. If each user has an independent copy they won't necessarily be in synch.
One approach to this (and yes - it's annoying) is to have the catalog on an external drive (not a network drive). Then whomever needs to work on the images connects the external drive to their computer, opens the catalog, works on the images, closes the catalog, dismounts the drive. Then the next person can have it. This works if you are all in the same location. It's not practical when you're in different cities!
There are other workarounds such as copying the catalog to the network drive. While you cannot open it from there you can download it to your local drive. Work from there then upload it back to the network. This becomes tedious, though, as the size increases.
So, since LR in not an multi-user networkable app there really isn't a great solution for this kind of workflow setup.

  • Sharing Lightroom 4 catalog with multiple users on the same Windows Machine

    Hi:
I just started out using Lightroom 4 for managing family photos. What I want to do is to share the LR catalog so that my kids and wife can access the database from their own accounts. I tried sharing the directory with the catalog and all the photos. But when I open lightroom from my kids's account, I keep getting an "unexpected error openning the catalog".
    I am using Windows 8, 64bit
The catalog was created in my account (adminstrator)
the other accounts are normal accounts
I have searched around but all the questions ask about sharing on network drives. But I just want to share the catalog on the same machine on local harddrive. I made sure that all the other lightrooms are closed in the other accounts (everyone else is signed off) before I tried to open it from my kid's account.
    Any ideas?
thanks a lot for your help,
    Herman

It sounds like the other user accounts don't have permission to access the catalog. You could mess with permissions and try to get everyone access to the catalog, or an easier way might be to just move the catalog and the images to their own volume formatted as FAT 32. FAT 32 volumes don't user permissions, thus everyone would have read/write access by default.

  • Multiple Users on Lightroom? Or Other Solution?

I just called Adobe technical support and spoke with someone about using Lightroom to organize patient photos in a medical office.  I was told that Lightroom does not support multiple users, and there is no work-around solution or plug-in for this.  Can you please confirm this?  I need a software to organize a photo library/catalog of appx 20K before and after photos.  Multiple users (appx 3-5) need to be able to access and update the same library/catalog simultaneously.  We are a Mac only office.  Please help.

Lightroom is the wrong tool for the job - consider Bridge instead.
At the risk of stating the obvious: no matter which way you go (software-wise), you (your team, I mean) need to make sure one person isn't stompling on what another has done (or preventing access denial when it's needed).
That said, many have come up with Lightroom-based solutions that support some people working on one set of photos (or same set of photos, but different metadata/settings), whilst another team member works on a different set (or same set, but not same settings/metadata). - whether any of these ad-hoc solutions would be acceptable to you, I can't say.
But most of them involve using catalog export/import, or xmp, and/or reserving exclusive (master) catalog access temporarily...

  • Multiple user

Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum.
I've just come across the lightroom product and have downloaded a demo.
It looks great, but am I able to use this to allow multiple users to manage the files? i.e. on a server. Or is this software designed for use by one user on one PC?
If not does any other Adobe software offer this functionailty?
    Thanks a lot.

Unfortunately, Lightroom does not support multiple users.  It is not a multiple user application and cannot be used in the way you are wanting to.

  • Is Lightroom supported in a Active Directory domain environment with multiple users logging into a machine?

We are a school district using an Active Directory environment.  We currently use other Adobe products with multiple users on different machines and it works fine.  If Lightroom does work in a domain environment what are the required local user permissions needed for it tor work properly?  Thanks!

Lightroom is not a multiuser program. It is required that the catalog is located on a hard drive that is local to the machine accessing it. There are no workarounds.

  • Oracle Workflow Notification to multiple users but only one response required

    Hi,
I'd like to ask help on how I would go about this. I have a requirement using Oracle Workflow. Initially the workflow sends a notification with the option to Accept or Reject to a group of people, then if one accepts I should end the process. But if all rejects, then send a notification to the Manager.
I used a Loop Timer to loop through the members of the group but I noticed that one needs to reply before the next one gets notified and so on.
I thought of using adhoc role then adding all members to this role. But not sure how to catch if one accepts or all rejects.
    Appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Allen

    Hi
We have a similar situation and every level has multiple user to release the PO. I have tried with all possibilities using standard functionality but no good.
Would you mind to share the design and the process will be great help.

  • One workflow, edited by multiple users

    Hi,
can anyone tell me if it is possible to have one workflowtransaction that is edited by multiple users? My customer wants the transfer workflow to be initiated by the supervisor, which will fill several fields, and then be sent to an HR Representative, who will fill another set of fields, and then sent to a payroll administrative worker who has to fill in the rest of the fields. Then it will go into an approval workflow.
The latter I know how to do, but I don't know if you can have multiple roles into one workflow.
    Please help.
    Corné

An approver can update the transaction if the Edit Transaction profiles are set to Yes.
Please note, it is not function specific . So, all functions with HRSSA workflow will be enabled for edit by approvers.
I don't remember the profiles names now, but SSHR Implementation guide has the details.

  • Assigning a single task to multiple users in a state machine/ sp d workflow

     hi,
i have a requirement to implement a   workflow based soln.
step1 : approver1 will select few documents , which is provide as a link , with other columns in a  gridview
approver1  clicks on a  button send to doclib1 and its moved and inserted into doclib1
    my workflow should start.
step2 : a task is assigned to leadconsultant1 and a item/items is created in  the task list.
leadconsultant1 will review  the document/documents and send back to approver1 if its ok.approver1 then send this info  to the requestor offline.
step3 :  if leadconsultant1 is not reviewing the document , he can select few consultants [asue peoplpickwer control is avlble] and assign same document to multiple consultants.
so here comes the complex part : in a visual studio statemachine workflow , how can i assign single task to multiple users also, when a user completes his task [ means reviews the document the workflow  will not be completed. and workflow will be completed
ONLY WHEN  all the users selected by the leadconsultant1 completes their review].
or is there  anyway in sp designer 2013, i can achieve the same scenario?
help or pointers are highly appreciated!

    Hi Benjamin KNR,
For this issue, in the first level approval, you can use custom task form to add a field for approvals to add the consultants to approve next.
Then on this task changed event, get the consultants fields value from the task, set the value to a custom field in current item to record the consultants value.
Go to next state, to create next approval task for consultants. Set the task AssignedTo to the fields that store the consultants value.
On the event driven state, onTaskChanged event, check all task status, if all the tasks have been approved, then go to next state.

  • How to send emails to Multiple Users from a Single People Picker lookup field using Sharepoint designer workflow

    Hi All,
I am working with SharePoint 2013 designer workflow. we are using office 365.
Our requirement to send email to multiple users, get the user groups from lookup list people and groups column.
But SP designer sending emails to the first user alone.
    Please guide me to proceed.
    Advance Thanks.
    Regards
    Jenkins NS
    Thanks and Regards Jenkins

    finally I got a solution
Identified a workaround to solve the issue using SharePoint designer.
    Step 1
Create a lookup list Example department
    Columns
Title (by default) – Single line of text
    Users – Person or Group
Emails – Multiple lines of text
hidden the Emails column (go to content type and set the column as hidden)
    Create a SharePoint designer Workflow
Start Workflow automatically when an item is created
Also Start Workflow automatically when an item is changed
    Workflow Stage 1
Set Emails to current Item: Users
The workflow will get all users email ids and add in the Emails column delimiter as semicolon.
    Step 2
Create a custom list to get the email ids and send email
Create a lookup column ex: analysis and refer department list, Allow multiple values
Then Create a SharePoint designer workflow

  • Using Lightroom in a multiple user instance

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I currently work at a high school and create the schools yearbook. I would like to start to manage my photos using Lightroom. I have 5 licenses and would like to hear suggestions about how to best teach my students proper techniques in managing and organizing their folders. Ultimately I would like for students to be able to add images to one common library and have the images show up across multiple computers. I am under e impression that this is not possible, as the catalog contains all of the image data (retouch info, tags etc). I am hoping that there is a way though.

LR uses a single-user database. There is no way multiple users can work with the same catalog, at least not at the same time. It's also not possible to have the Catalog on a network drive. Catalogs need to be on local drives.

  • I have a question about multiple users with Photoshop CC/Lightroom CC.

With a single subscription to the Photography bundle of Photoshop and Lightroom CC - how many simultaneous users are permitted? For example, if I have Photoshop running on my desktop, can someone else use the version that is installed on my laptop?

No, that is clearly not allowed as per the Terms & Conditions you ticked when installing the software.

  • Multiple users and shopping carts, one searchable index?

    Hi all,
I've got an idea but I would like to know if it possible with Business Catalyst. I'll try and explain as simply as possible:
I have multiple users (let's say 10). They all need separate shopping carts as they are all selling different products. They all need their own admin areas that keep track of their incomes, workflows, shopping carts, etc. They are essentially 10 independent users. Will the WebCommerce10 plan satisfy their needs, or will 10 separate WebCommerce single plans need to be sold?
Taking the above into account, is there anyway to have 10 independent shopping carts, but they can all be searchable simultaneously? e.g. think eBay, lots of users with their own independent admin areas and products, but one search field returning many results from all the user's shopping carts? Is there anyway to achieve something like this with BC? Can subdomains do this? Any other ideas how to achieve this if none of the above is possible?
My plan B is having a landing page where a link for each of the 10 users will take them to their relevant shopping carts, but this experience isn't quite as integrated as I would like, from a web surfer's point of view.
    Thanks.
    Clint,
    Komma Media

    Hi Robbie,
Yes, this would require significant modification to the shopping cart functionality. As it is now, it's very dependent the ShoppingCart being associated with the session and therefore the user. To change that would be significant work.
Additionally, if you had two people logging in to the same account and editing the same order around the same time, this would tend to not to work well. This is because two users would be two sessions and they would often get routed to different app server instances. Because the way orders are managed, there's no way to immediately sync up the changes between multiple instances, and if you managed to do it would likely slow things down drastically. I would not recommend trying this with ATG.
    Thanks.

  • How can I Manage Multiple Users?

My wife and I both want to organize and edit our digital photos with PSE10.  Up until now, I have managed all of our photos by myself, and I have synchronized all data on both of our computers (and backed up all of our data to an external harddrive).  Now that my wife also wants to organize and edit our photos on her computer, I am finding it difficult to synchronize the PSE Catalogs and photos on our two computers.  So, I am looking for a better procedure.
Should I (and can I) keep my PSE Catalog & Photos on:
    (1) an External Harddrive (which would be connected to only one computer at a time, while that computer user is organizing and editing photos), or
    (2) on a Home Network location where both users could access the photos for organizing and editing (with a "lockout" for photos which are being edited by the other computer user)?
Are there other good or better procedures for managing multiple users of PSE?
My computer is running Win7 Home Premium 64-bit.
My wife's computer is running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

Thank all of you for your replies.
    Re SOFTWARE CHOICES:
I decided that my wife and I will each use different software on our different computers.
I decided NOT to upgrade my wife's software from "Windows Live Photo Gallery" (WLPG) to "Adobe Photoshop Elements 10" (PSE).  After a detailed discussion of my wife's wishes, I discovered that she only wants to (1) move our pictures into folders, (2) cull the pix, and (3) create "Album" folders (with only our most memorable pix) to be printed as 8.5" x 11" pages for the Albums.  She wants me to crop, edit, add captions, and print the Album pages.  See the image at the bottom for our current Photo Mgmt Plan.
I will continue to use "Lightroom" (Lr).
    Re SYCHRONIZATION:
I decided that we both can use the same picture files.  I use "GoodSync" to sychronize files between my computer and my wife's computer (and between my computer and my backup HDD).
My wife's "WLPG" does NOT appear to use a database.  My changes (including "Keyword" edits or adds) show up in her "WLPG" program, when picture files have been changed by myself in "Lr" and sychronized with her computer.
After my wife adds folders and/or changes the folder contents, I sync her computer with mine.  I open her folders (which are now also on my computer) in "Lr", and "Import" any of her new and duplicate pictures into "Lr".  Surpisingly and thankfully, the pictures that have been moved to a new folder by my wife do NOT show up in "Lr" in the previous folder (i.e. I do NOT have to find and delete any "Missing" images which were in the previous folder location).
Re MULTIPLE USERS OF A DATABASE:
I do not need to use this now, but I read that "Lr" is designed to work with the "Lr" database (and pictures) on an external HDD.
Thank all of you again for your very helpful replies.
