Lightroom 2.6 Randomly removing folders

Today I noticed that 3 of my folders had been removed from Lightroom.  There were still on my computer.  I had already done many, many edits to most of the pictures and then the folders just disappeared!  I had to re-import and of course the edits are all erased.  I had already gone through the files and deleted (removed from disk, not LR) the ones I didn't want, even emptied my trash and when I had to re-import all those files were back!
Is there a way to get the files back into LR without re-importing them and hopefully recovering my edits.
Frustrating!!!!
Why????

not sure why directories are deleted. Are you sure u enable the right button (delete from disk/remove from lightroom)?
Lost your edits... when a pic is removed from lightroom (but still is on disk) that pic is removed from the database, including your edits. Always write your edits to a sidecar file (xmp files). after finishing your edits use ctrl_s to do so. That way you can retrieve the settings from the sidecar if you  have to reimport your pics. There is a way to automatically let LR write changes to xmp's. HAve a look at your settings!

I understand you have deleted folders from outside the organizer. As a result, you have 'missing' or 'disconnected' files in your catalog.
There are no folders, no picture files in the organizer, only links (pointers) to the location of the files in your physical drive(s).
What you are seeing in the left panel showing folders in the organizer is an image of the folders tree based on the files locations recorded in the catalog. Of course, the physically deleted folders (outside of the organizer, via the Explorer/Finder) are still shown, since the catalog has not been updated.
What you have to do is to remove the links to missing files in the catalog. Use the menu File/reconnect missing files. Click on the small icon in the upper part of the dialog to open a dropdown menu; first select all, then delete all. All missing files will be deleted from the files list in the catalog.
When the files are removed from the catalog, their folders won't appear in the left panel. As a matter of fact, you remove the files from the catalog, you don't delete folders.

  • Itunes randomly removing my artwork

This is so **** annoying. My itunes continually wants to randomly remove artwork from my albums...artwork that I have manually located and added myself as well as established itunes store-friendly artwork that the software has located and added for me. It is so random and so frustrating. It happens after a sync, after a software update, after adding new albums to my library. Again, at random. I am an extremely meticulous person and this software program continually fails to meet my organizational standards for data, info. It literally drives me nuts. This is the most frustrating issue of all the issues I seem to have with itunes...cuz it happens so often and is so random. Anyone experience similar problem? Anyone have a solution?
I have have zero solutions after doing a simple Google search for the issue.
In the meantime, I will go back to fixing, re-locating, re-adding, re-doing the artwork on my itunes.

Looking more at this bug, it seems to only happen on tracks that I select in iTunes, as I select them. I can literally cause this problem consistently by just going through my library and selecting tracks. Songs with album after before selecting them have the artwork removed immediately after selecting them.

  • Mac:word 04/08 random removal of spaces

short: mac:word removes spaces from documents randomly.
long: At first I thought it might be an issue with windows:word 2007 users and mac:word 04/08 users working on the same documents; however, I have had several instances were a mac:word 04/08 document that is created, edited, saved and re-opened on OSX (Leopard 10.5.2) without interaction with Windows; has spaces throughout randomly removed.
This is most annoying. I have found it hard to find other users experiencing this. Googling for the issue or searching in various forums just presents complaints and whines about interoperability with Leopard spaces. This is a much bigger and more frustrating issue, trust me!
    Versions:
    OSX Leopard 10.5.2
    mac:word 2008 v12.0.1 (08305)
    mac:word 2004

I have created two documents, one standard no modified styles and one with modified styles. Filled teh documents with the text:
The cow jumps over the moon.
Passing both documents backwards and forwards to OSX and Windows, opening, editing and closing and I can't re-create the issue in either document.
I followed the instructions at http://word.mvps.org/Mac/damagedPrefs.html for recreating the preferences and repeated the above steps, still can't re-create the issue.
Now oddly enough, the words do NOT appear as misspelt (i.e no red squiggly line) in Windows or OSX. If you manually preform a spell check they are picked up.
This can happen if I author a document, save it and re-open locally, so I did manage to rule Windows out of the equation.
If a document is opened on Windows and the spaces have been removed, opening it again on the mac, results in seeing that in fact the spaces have been removed.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Photoshop Lightroom 3.2 (too) many folders

    Hello,
For some time I have an issue on lightroom 3.
    I have a network volume subfolder wich contains 60000 (75GB) photo's in 5000 folders.
If I import the "bunch" of pictures, it seems to work but I cannot see al te folders. The structure is : 1 folder containing almost all the subfolders one level lower, thus no many directory levels but many folders "aside" each other.
If i trie ro reimport one subfolder (from the ones I cannot see) lightroom marks me that the folders are already imported. I already tried to start with a fresh catalog, but this gives no relief.
Also my lightroom sometimes crashes, I always send an error report.
My system is Win XP SP3.
Please help me, I find if I buy such a high level program that it his to do the job ...
    Olivier

Just few thoughts that came to my mind.
Lightroom had (still has?) a "feature" in windows version that it couldn't show keyword lists which had more than 1300+(?) keywords visible (rest were just truncated. Keywords worked normally but couldn't be seen in a keyword panel), because some insane (windows?) restriction that panels could be only certain amount of pixels long. Only solution was to build keyword hierarcy which didn't show too many keywords at once.
Could same "feature" affect folders view?
Are missing folders at the end of your folder list?

I recently formated and reinstalled my mac. I backed up my user folder before formating so after the install I copied it back(following instructions from apple's web site). But now, I can't remove folders from finder's side menu. I can drag a folder from the side menu to the trash and it'll disappear but next time I open finder the folder is back in the side menu. Any ideas? Thanks.

If you Ctrl click on the folder you want removed in the sidebar and in the menu that pops up, you should see "Remove From Sidebar". Try that. Also, make sure you empty the Trash to make sure the folder is erased if it happened to end up there.
    Hope that helps.

  • ITunes album artwork randomly removed from iPhone after sync.

iTunes 12.1.0.50. IOS 8.1.3. iPhone 5.  23GB free space on iPhone.
Album art is randomly removed from iPhone after sync.  This seems to be new to the recent version of iTunes.
Removed and reinstalled all music. No help, problem still occurs.
Restored iPhone as a new iPhone and reinstalled all music.  At first, all artwork was installed, but on later sync, random artwork was removed or missing.  Problem reoccurs.
This appears to be a bug in the software somewhere.
    Anyone having similar problems?

    welcome to my world....
i have had this at least three times now in the past month.
I too had to do a factory reset and set up a a new phone.
i read an article about it being a known issue and something to do with duplicate tracks causing it to hang during sync.  it then fills up the available space with the dreaded "other" data and hey ho you have no music.
have a look at this, hope it helps and hope Apple get it fixed as it is affecting a lot of people

  • Lightroom does not display imported folders in correct location

    Hello,
    OS X Yosemite 10.10.1
    Lightroom 5.7
In Lightroom, I try to import photos and store them in a folder named by date.  All import settings are configured in such a way that Lightroom indicates that my photos will be imported as I want them to be.
Lightroom creates the folder in the correct location on disk.
However Lightroom does not display the newly created folder in the correct location after import, instead it adds the folders to the top level of my catalogue.
I've triedimporting from both from my cameras card and from a local folder, the results are the same for both methods.
Does anyone know why this is happening or do you have any tips on how I can trouble shoot this issue?
Something that may be related to this issue... while in Lightroom, if I right click the top level folder and click "Synchronize folder", Lightroom displays a dialog box indicating that there are new photos and missing photos...
    "Import new photos (7934)
Remove missing photos from catalog (7931).
I have been importing photos in the same way for years.  I have have upgraded Lightroom once, and I have swapped computers once.

This problem most likely occurs when there has been a case change in a path on disk.  In other words (using the screenshot at the top of this post as an example), something like this:
    /Users/hurley/Pictures/photographs
intentionally or unintentionally gets changed to:
    /Users/hurley/Pictures/Photographs
(i.e., "photographs" was initially lowercase, but got changed to an uppercase "Photographs")
As you've discovered, Lightroom does not handle this well.  You can fix the problem by completely changing the path, and then updating Lightroom with the new path.  Try these steps:
    1.  Quit Lightroom.
    2.  In the Finder (i.e., on disk, not in Lightroom), alter the path that your photos are stored at.  In other words (again using the screenshot at the top of this post as an example), create a new folder called "Test" inside the "Pictures" folder, and then put the "Photographs" folder inside the "Test" folder, so that the new path looks like this:
    /Users/hurley/Pictures/Test/Photographs
    4.  Launch Lightroom.  In the Folders panel in Lightroom, you should now see a question mark “?” on the “photographs” folder (and all the folders within it) because Lightroom doesn't know where they are any more.
    5.  Right-click on the “photographs” folder in the Folders panel in Lightroom, and choose “Find Missing Folder…”  Direct Lightroom to the new location of the folder, i.e., /Users/hurley/Pictures/Test/Photographs.  The folder, and the folders within it, should now be found, and the question marks should disappear from them in the Folders panel in Lightroom.
    6.  Now try importing again to see if the newly imported photos go into the right place.

  • Lightroom 5.5 spot removal tool not working

    Hi all.
I've just updated to lightroom 5.5 and discovered my spot removal tool isnt working as before. The opacity is set to 100 and the brush size is set in the middle. It won't work for any of my images event after restarting lightroom. Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks

    Hi Hal
The cursor doesn't change to the circle. There is just no response at all. It appears to be an issue with all the images in one folder and doesn't seem to affect other folders.
Also I have noticed when in library mode, it has 1:1 size selected and when I click in to develop, it resets back to Fit and won't let me select the 1:1 size unless I click 3:1 then back to 1:1. Sounds odd I know but I will keep trying. I cant help but wonder if its something I have selected by mistake somewhere.
    Thanks

  • Can't remove folders from Spotlight Privacy

    Hi there,
I've never posted on here before so please bear with me
I am running a 17" iMac with OSX10.9.5, 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM with over 100GB of free space.
I am also using DropBox to sync my files with a co-worker.
The problem: A few months ago I got access to a new database on DropBox. I didn't use it often so I added the folders to my Spotlight Privacy list but then unsynced the DropBox folder from my computer. Now I have RE-synced the original folders and have tried NUMEROUS times to remove them from the list. They disappear briefly to only reappear a few seconds later.
I need to be able to search these folders again so this is very frustrating at the moment.
I have tried dragging in the same folders and then removing them. I have tried dragging my hard drive into the privacy and then removing prompting the spotlight to index the computer but that doesn't seem to be working either. I tried the command sudo rm -rf /.Spotlight-V100/* in Terminal, but again. They still reappear.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks so much in advance!

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.spotlight.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

  • Create Multiple Subfolders in Lightroom or Have Lightroom Pick Up Multiple Empty Folders

I currently have Lightroom organize files into subfolders by date when importing photos. So, for example, when returning from a shoot today, all images will be imported into a subfolder called "2013-12-18", which Lightroom will automatically created if it does not exist.
    This is great.
Some of the images in the shoot belong to a set that I want to keep separate from the others. For example, an HDR or focus-stacked or panorama set.
What I do is create subfolders undernear the "2013-12-18" folder and manually move the sets into it. So I might end up with, for e.g.
      .../2013-12-18/
      .../2013-12/18/Set-01
      .../2013-12/18/Set-02
      .../2013-12/18/Set-03
      ... etc.
What I would like to do, however, is to reduce the pain of manually need to create each of the subfolders. Right now, I have to right click the parent folder ("2013-12-18"), select "Create folder inside 2013-12-18", type in "set-01", and repeat and repeat and repeat and repeat. This is very inefficient and tedious.
Now, I can easily write a Bash or Python script to automatically create as many subfolders as I need in the correct parent directory. But Lightroom does not show or recognize these empty subfolders until I go through the above process (i.e. pseudo-"create" the subfolders) OR go to "Library > New Folder" and ask Lightroom to add the new folder. I thought at first that the latter would be the solution (i.e., I could just go to "Library > New Folder" and add all the new, externally-created, empty subfolders. Unfortunately, this dialog only lets me add one folder at time.  Quelle douleur!!!
Any suggestions on how to go about doing this? A plugin or somehow record an action? Or maybe change the way I import?
Note that I do not mind actually moving the images belong to a set into each subfolder manually myself. In fact, I cannot imagine doing it any other way, as only I (and not Lightroom) can tell which images belong to a particular set. Yes, I know Lightroom can autostack by capture time, but that is not relevant here because (a) I am not stacking yet and (b) capture time between images in the same set can be highly variable. But I *would* like to automate or otherwise make more efficient the process of creating the subfolders or having Lightroom recognize my externally created empty subfolders.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    Hi Christoph and all,
So if there can only be one Public Root folder, I have a question about expanding EDMS to incorporate more uses.  We have a small group of users now who use it and so they already have the EDIPUBLICROOTFOLDER  document created with a certain doc type (FLD) which has some special rules coded with it that the lower level folders and documents inherit from it.   Now as part of our PLM project we are going to roll out EDMS to a broad audience who needs more general functionality which will come from an EDIPUBLICROOTFOLDER of a different document type (FOL).  Is it possible to create this new pubic root folder and somehow move the existing one with its specialized doc property inheritance to a subfolder within the new public root folder?
    Thanks,

  • Random picture folders missing after import

I am running a Macbook pro. I use a 120gb external drive to store my photos as i have about 40 gb of both RAW and JPEG images.
I have attempted to import these as referenced images as per the Aperture guide but when the folders are imported random ones are missing.
I have also tried importing a limited number selected folders folders as managed images into aperture but random folders still disapear.
Acoording to the pro DVD that came with aperture importing referanced files by clicking import > "folders as projects" should create a mirror image of my file system on my external hardrive but with thumbnails as opposed to the full sized raw file.
Is this random file import a problem with aperture, or am i doing something wrong?
    thanks,
    Rob

A possibility is that the files have multiple tags, i.e. both id3v1 and id3v2.x. iTunes seems to behave best when there is a single properly populated id3v2.3 tag.
If you move you library properly there is no need to "Add Folder to Library" on the new system and such problems don't arise.

  • I can't delete a keyword plus Lightroom now automatically displays keyword folders

Lightroom has suddenly started behaving oddly with regard to keywords and I can't seem to find reference to it anywhere, even if it is "switch" that I have accidentally turned on.
In my set up, I have, for example, the keyword "Portrait" stored under a keyword folder "Photographic styles".  Normally only the word "Portrait" appears within the keyword box and that's how I want it, but recently whichever keyword I type, the containing folder pops up alongside it.  Note, this isn't during an export of a file, this is actually whilst keyboarding a photograph with the Library section of LR.
Secondly, I can no longer delete a keyword by highlighting it with the keyword box in Library so, unless that word is still within the Recently Used collection of words where I can can un-highlight it, I can't remove a highlight from a photograph at all.
Have I changed a setting by mistake or is there something market going on?
Many thanks in advance for your help,
    Martin

Normally only the word "Portrait" appears within the keyword box and that's how I want it, but recently whichever keyword I type, the containing folder pops up alongside it.  Note, this isn't during an export of a file, this is actually whilst keyboarding a photograph with the Library section of LR.
It sounds like you created a top-level keyword "Portrait", so now you have two top-level keywords, "Portrait" and "Photographic styles", and you also have a child keyword "Photographic styles > Portrait".  (Note that the usual terminology is to call "Photographic sytles" a parent keyword, rather than a folder, since it is also a keyword.)
When your Keyword List has more than one keyword whose leaf names are the same, then LR will include the parent name of the child keyword to remove ambiguity:
To replace the top-level keyword "Portrait" by the child keyword "Photographic styles > Portrait", follow these steps:
    1. In the Keyword List panel, hover the mouse on the right edge of the line containing the top-level keyword Portrait, until you see a right arrow appear:
Click on that right arrow, and all the pics containing the top-level "Portrait" will be shown in grid view.
    2. Select all those pics by doing Cmd-A (Mac) or Ctrl-A (Windows).
    3. In the Keyword List panel, hover the mouse over the left edge of the line containing the child keyword "Photographic styles > Portrait".  A check box will appear:
Click on the check box and a checkmark will appear, indicating the child keyword is now assigned to all the selected photos.
    4. In the Keyword List, right-click the top-level keyword "Portrait" and select Delete:
