Lightroom 2.7 not rendering pic upon importing?

I have run Lightroom since it came out on this system and the last upgrade I ran was 2.4 with no problems. My system crashed, not by Lightroom, but with some agp400 death. I rebuilt sys from recovery cd's installed Lightroom 2.7 and nothing renders when importing. All I get is the gray rectangles of the pic and the pic number. The files are in lightroom, just not rendering. Some pic indicated a sidecar problem along with  with adobe_lightroom.msi file with the first rebuild of the system.
For good measure I rebuilt the OS a 2nd time still no rendering but light room not indicating sidecar or adobe_lightroom.msi problem.
System: Compact 6410NX running XP sp3, 2mg memory just added 320gb disk. Bought new in 2003.
The following is from lightroom sys info:
Lightroom version: 2.7 [666138]
Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (Build 2600)
Version: 5.1 [2600]
Application architecture: x86
System architecture: x86
Physical processor count: 1
Processor speed: 1.6 GHz
Built-in memory: 2015.4 MB
Real memory available to Lightroom: 716.8 MB
Real memory used by Lightroom: 73.5 MB (10.2%)
Virtual memory used by Lightroom: 56.0 MB
Memory cache size: 0.0 MB
Serial Number: Took out
Application folder: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.7
Library Path: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\My Pictures\Lightroom\Lightroom 2 Catalog.lrcat
I'm running this same version on an acer laptop with 3meg memory with no problems.......
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks Hal I'll give that a try.

  • Lightroom 2.3 adjusts my photos upon import

I use a Canon 40d and shoot in a controlled lighting situation. I shoot products (guitar bodies and necks). I have picture styles set up in my camera and i am getting what I like to see at my camera's LCD. Before I import to Lightroom, I save these images to the haard drive. I then use "Import from Disk". When they begin to load, they look fine. But then, ono by one, I can see the images getting processed by Lightroom. All my Picture Style settings go away and the images take on a cold and sickly look. Why is this happening? How can I get Lightroom to leave my pics alone upon import?? HELP!!!!!
    Thank You

Apparently you are shooting in raw.  When Lightroom first loads your raw images it is displaying the embedded JPEG image which reflects all of the in-camera settings.  Lightroom then renders a preview of your raw image and is not able to read those in-camera settings.  However, Adobe provides camera matching profiles (free) that will emulate those in-camera settings as closely as possible.  Those profiles should have been loaded with one of your Lightroom updates, and they can be accessed from the Calibration tab in the develop module.  You may still have to create a few presets to fine tune your adjustments.  Or, you can create new defaults for your camera after you have made the proper adjustments.
If you don't want to bother with all this you could try using the DPP software that came with your camera.  It WILL read those in-camera settings.
If you don't have the profiles listed in your installation of Lightroom you may have to download ACR 5.2.  That download package will include an installer for the profiles.

  • Lightroom 3.3 not showing photos after import

This is a new situation and I have not been able to find the solution in my research.  After I import photos from my memory card they do not show up in lightroom.  The screen is blank.  Please tell me how to correct this.  Thank you very much

I think we need a bit more information...
First, by "blank" do you mean a gray rectangle?  Or do you get a window with a '?' in it?   How are you importing, what settings, etc..  Add, Copy?
If you get just gray rectangles for the images, the most common culprit has been a corrupted display profile.  You can test this by setting your monitor profile back to sRGB briefly and see if that fixes it.  If it does, you need to recalibrate your monitors.
The other culprit we've seen is a corrupted preferences file.  Try deleting the LR preferences and see if that helps.  But I'd try the monitor profile first!
    Cheers!

  • Somehow my lightroom now puts a star rating upon import...

How do I get it to stop! I am not sure what happened...but now when I import my images, it adds a 5 star rating to them all...help..

The first place to check is your Metadata Preset you are applying on/just after import. Is it applying the stars?

I use a mac ios and shoot raw in a cannon 5d mark ii and shortly upon import of my images lightroom darkens and changes my images. This has happened before but not every time. The strange part is my last shoot had the same camera setting but this did not happen. The images i have now i can not use after lightroom has automatically altered them even if i try editing back to how they looked upon import

First thing to do is to change the default camera profile applied in Lightroom to camera standard (assuming that you shoot Canon or Nikon). Also make sure that your camera is NOT set up to use any of the HDR modes. Nikon calls those Active Dynamic Lighting. On Canons you often see things like highlight priority mode or "Auto Lighting Optimizer". Make sure that the picture style is set to standard and that for newer Canons the HDR mode is turned off. Most of the HDR modes simply underexpose the image and then add an instruction in the raw file to compensate for this to prevent highlights from being blown out. This causes more noise in the shadows and if you know what you are doing there is no point to this as you should simply expose correctly and get the highest quality raw.
Lastly, make sure that in Lightroom you have not checked "Apply Auto Tone Adjustments" in Preferences->Presets. This should make the default rendering of the raw files the same as the in-camera jpeg (what the camera shows on the back even if you shoot raw) but still give you all the latitude of raw files.

  • Lightroom 5 is auto-developing our canon 7d raw files but not the canon 5d mark 3 files upon import.

Lightroom 5 is auto-developing raw files upon import on the canon 7d but not on the canon 5d mark3. I would prefer to do individual file developing in the develop module.

Go into preferences, select the Presets tab. Hit "Reset all Default Develop Settings". You probably by accident set a default Develop for the 7D. Also check that you don't have a preset selected in the import dialog.

  • Lightroom 4 does not import RAW files from D610

I've just purchased Nikon D610, and my Lightroom 4 is not importing RAW files anymore. What is the problem?

The current version of LR 5 is 5.7 so I’d guess LR 6 will be out at some point later this year, in the next few months.  If money’s no object then upgrade to LR 5, now and to LR 6 in a few months.  If you’ll be very upset to learn you’ve paid $80 to upgrade and then need to pay another upgrade fee for LR 6 then maybe wait and do the DNG thing for a few months, and then upgrade from LR4 to LR6.
The other concern is whether your OS is new enough.  I’d suggest you download the latest LR 5.7.1 update and run that in trial mode for a few weeks—you have 30 days, to make sure your computer can handle it, before spending the money and finding out you need a new computer, first.
The other thing to consider is the $10/month Photography Plan subscription which gets you the most up-to-date versions of Lightroom and Photoshop as long as you keep paying.  Since you have your old LR4 serial number, you can decide to cancel the subscription after a year and use the LR4 serial number to buy the LR 6 upgrade, then.  This assumes that LR 6 will be available as a serial-number-licensed product, still.
The latest LR 5.7.1 update is here:

The lens profiles added to each version are listed here:

  • Lightroom 5.4 not importing cr2 files  over a network?

    Well, this is unfortunate.
Brand new iMac, just out of the box, OS updated.
Brand new Adobe CC subscription, everything updated.
Neither Lightroom 5.4 or Photoshop CC can import CR2 files stored on my NAS.
The Mac connects to the NAS just fine. I can see the photos and copy them to my new PC, but can't import.
I know LR doesn't allow storing CATALOGS on a network, but I've never had problems with the original raw files stored there.
    Any advice?

    Solved it!
I'm not sure why it makes a difference, but once I mounted the network folder and gave it an alias on the desktop, LR5.4 was able to import.
    Here are the steps:

Lightroom 5 will not import selected images from my SD card on my IMac . My Camera is a Canon 650D it will open them on my pc copy. My Lightroom 4 on my IMac will also import from an sd card. Help please.

  • Renaming files in Lightroom 3 Upon Import (problems)

I can having trouble importing files into Lightroom name where I want to custom name them - sequentially. I am importing the data from one folder on my hard drive to the folder that contains all of my lightroom files. I am able to import and rename some files in folders with ease. Others I am told Lightroom 3 couldn't name them. Why? If I try to import and rename in LR2 I have no problems. I am basically taking a Nikon generated file, say DSC0001.NEF and renaming it to Ireland 07-30-08.NEF. Lightroom 3 can't do it. Does anyone know why? Thanks.

    Hi Franz,
Let me clarify a couple things (I hope Adobe is listening):
    1.     I am merely copying and renaming on import. I am not moving the original files.
    2.     Files are created in my TO: directory, they just contain the origianl filename.
    3.     I tried the exact same procedure with LR2 and it works fine.
It appears there may be a bug in the software.

  • Lightroom 5.5 - still not recognizing duplicates on import

With so many people complaining about this issue, I can't believe that it hasn't been addressed in any version 5 update yet.  Version 4 did not exhibit this problem.
    Scenario:
Insert SD card containing many previously imported images and a few new ones.
Lightroom recognizes card and automatically switches to import
When configured to show new photos and with “Don’t import suspected duplicates” checked, many, many previously imported images on the card are shown in the import panel.
Wait a while for Lightroom to hopefully prune the set of duplicates.....nope.
Cancel the import, and without removing the SD card, re-initiate the import.
Magically, Lightroom does much better, but might still not recognize some duplicates.
Cancel the import, and without removing the SD card, re-initiate the import.
Usually, all duplicates have been recognized and just new photos are shown.
It seem the longer the card is left in slot (built-in reader in the iMac), the more likely it is that Lightroom will recognize duplicates.  I'd welcome any advice on how to get my Lightroom 4 behavior back.

I'm having the same problem with LR 5.6. There seems to be no consistency as to when the issue occurs. It doesn't depend on if I removed images from the catalog on a previous culling session or not. Example: I recently imported 1166 images of a sporting event. I deleted a few hundred images from the catalog and from the external drive that the images were copied to during the import. When I went to check the contents of that CF card by using the import function of LR, all the images showed up as not having been imported, even though "Don't import suspected duplicates" was checked. I would have expected to see a few hundred to show up as not having been imported (those previously deleted from the catalog and external drive) but not all of them which includes the ones I saved in the catalog and on the external hard drive. Another CF card had several hundred images (all JPGs) of a different sporting event. They had all been imported into LR. None had been removed from the catalog or from the copy-to external hard drive. The next day they all showed as not having been imported despite "Don't import suspected duplicates" being checked.
Until now, I hadn't realized that this was a chronic problem with the recent versions of LR.
Thanks for any help anyone has to offer.
    Regards,
    Andy

  • I am having problems using mov files imported into a project. I get the message "Not rendered" in the Canvas and clip won't play. Can anyone help?

I am having problems using mov files imported into a project. I get the message "Not rendered" in the Canvas and clip won't play. Can anyone help?

When clips won't play without rendering in the Timeline, it usually means that the clip's specs don't match the Sequence settings.
A .mov file could be made from any number of codecs; the QuickTime Movie designation is merely a container for video files of all kinds.  Since FCE only works with the QuickTime DV codec and the Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) natively, if your mov files aren't one of those two, you need to convert them PRIOR to importing into your FCE project.

  • When I try to import video, Lightroom-4 will not recognize the video files. How do I fix that?

Lightroom 4 will not recognize the video files.  It will only import the photo files.  How do I import the video files?

You might provide some additional information, such as what types of videos, from what cameras, and what version of LR4 you are using.
