Lightroom 2 Can't Read RAW Files from Canon 6D

I bought a new Canon 6D in December.  I am currently editing in Lightroom 2.  However, Lightroom 2 does not seem to be capable of reading my RAW files.  I guess I need to upgrade to the latest version of Lightroom?  If so, will the new version incorporate my existing images from Lightroom 2?

For the record, the Canon 6D was first supported in Lightroom 4.3 (and later versions but not earlier ones).

Adobe only sells current versions of Lightroom (currently 5.7).
You can either pay a once off US$79 upgrade fee to upgrade from v.2 to v.5.7. See Products

  • Photoshop CS5.1 won't read raw files from Canon EOS M

Photoshop cs5.1 won't read raw files from canon eosM, what to do?

The EOS M requires at least Camera Raw 7.2 but Raw 7.2 is only compatible with CS6 or higher (CS5 is only compatible up to Raw 6.7)

To open and edit Raw files, either upgrade to CS6 or join the Cloud and get the CC version.
Alternatively convert the Raw files from the EOS M to DNGs using the free DNG converter then edit the DNGs in CS5.1

  • Can Aperture 3 read Raw files from Canon G1X?

Is Aperture 3 capable of reading Raw files from a Canon G1X?
I'm currently using an elderly version of IPhoto, having resisted upgrading because of negative feedback about the latest version. My IPhoto version cannot read the Raw files from the G1X. I also tried importing one into Picassa, but the colours looked completely wierd.
I'm now considering buying Aperture 3 but will maybe wait until:
    a. Aperture 4 is released and;
    b. I know that Aperture can indeed read the Raw files from the G1X.
    Any help/advice gratefully received.

    see this list:
Aperture 3: Wide raw support for leading cameras:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
Your camera is supported by Aperture 3.
P.S. and the camera is supported by MacOS X 10.7.4.,
see: OS X Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats

What is your MacOS version? Perhaps upgrading to 10.7.4 should make the raw support available in iPhoto too.

  • Can't import RAW files from Canon Powershot S50.

iPhoto6 will not import RAW files from my Canon Powershot S50. It says the files are "unreadable". Image capture will import to the desktop, but neither iPhoto nor Photoshop Elements can open the file. I checked and the S50 is supposed to be compatible with OSX and RAW files.

I agree but I was responding to someone with an S50. That's hardly an "advanced amateur" camera. iPhoto has some rather neat catalog features but the editing is purely for the snapshooter. Heck, I suspect that redeye removal is the most popular feature and, as far as I'm concerned, if you have redeye to begin with, you're a snapshooter.
I'm an extremely advanced amateur with my film setup but, because of cost, I'm still a snapshooter with my digital camera. My film setup is two Nikon N80s with a top-of-the-line Nikon flash head that I use only with a Stroboframe bracket. The bracket and the necessary extension cord cost me nearly $200! My lenses are pure Nikon, including a single focal length f/1.8, 85 mm. portrait lens.
I consider 10 MP to be the bare minimum for "advanced amateur" shooting and both Canon and Nikon have recently introduced 10MP SLRs in the $1000 range. However, I'm waiting for the next advance - an SLR without the reflex mechanism - interchangeable lenses and an FP shutter but no mirror! Let's face it, the reflex mechanism adds cost but a digital screen gives the same view and even better (you can see the color balance) and screens are now available that can be viewed in bright sunlight.
I'm also hoping for one thing that will probably never happen - physically larger CCDs so that I can get the same focus control (small depth of field) that I can get with my film camera.

  • New Computer - Can't import raw files from Canon 1D mk 4

I just bought a new Toshiba Qosmio laptop and have reinstalled PS CS5 and LR 3.2 64 bit.  LR says there are no other updates to install.  Trying to import raw files from CF reader but LR is not showing me the raw files on the import screen.  I have installed Camera Raw 6.2 plug in.  It's been a long night but I can't see why files aren't importing properly.  What am I missing?  All suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mark

    Mark,
The ACR plugin is not needed for importing files with Lightroom. LR has it's own "ACR" built in. The ACR plugin is used when opening Raw files from Photoshop.
Try copying the files from your card-reader to your hard drive using explorer/finder, and try importing from there. There have been quite a few reports where the card reader (and its connection) have lead to trouble while importing into LR.

  • Reading raw files from Canon 70D

I have Photoshop Elements 11 and just got a Canon 70D. How can I get the program to read the raw files?

    Jo_vdh wrote:
if I understand correctly, the only way to open the CR2 files from canon 70D is upgrade to PSE12.
No. Adobe offer the free DNG converter that will convert those CR2 files to Adobe's DNG RAW format that can be opened in PSE11, or pretty much any version of PSE going back five or more years.
    Jo_vdh wrote:
    it's already kind of worthless.
The Organizer and the Editor still do everything they did when you bought the product and Adobe provide a continuing solution to enable RAW processing in older versions of the software so I don't see how it has suddenly become worthless?
And noting that you bought it the month after PSE12 was released I hope you got it heavily discounted.

  • Can't read Raw files from EOS 700D in CS4

How do I update CS4 and Bridge with ACR 5.0 to accept .CR2 files from EOS 700D? Have tried downloading and installing ACR 5.7 but bridge still opens using 5.0. Any assistance greatly aappreciated, thanks.

As i already mentioned support for EOS D700 starts in ACR 7.4 so ACR 5.7 won't open Raw files from this camera.
However, you can use DNG converter to convert Raw files into DNG and import in CS4 aaplication.
The Digital Negative (DNG) format is Adobe’s proposed standard format for camera raw files. DNG files are useful for archiving camera raw images because they contain the raw camera sensor data and data specifying how the image should look. Camera raw image settings can be stored in DNG files instead of in sidecar XMP files or the camera raw database.
You can download the latest DNG convert from following place:

  • Reading RAW files from Canon EOS 550D

I take pictures in RAW and process them with Elements 8.  I had no problems when using a Canon EOS 1000D but now that I am using a 550D Elements is not reading the files.  It is not just that it will not open them - it does not even read them as files.
I know that the camera is capturing good files, and that they are transfering to the computer because I can read them with the Canon utility Digital Photo Professional.
What do I need to do in order to get Elements to recognise my files?

I purchased PSE8 and installed it then ran the download 5.7 and discovered it still does not work by putting the Camera Raw.8bi file into the Photoshop Elements 8.0 Plug ins file as detailed on Adobe's instructions. It still would not import the raw files.  I then discovered another method through another helpful thread to place it as follows:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 8\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi
This works!  The only downside is that when you open the editor from the organiser you get a bad command box saying that it does not like the Camera Raw.8bi file in this location, but if you ignore this message it still proceeds to open the editor and you can proceed as normal. I have tried to put the Camera Raw.8bi into the other Plug-In files to see if it behaves better without any luck, so if anyone has any further ideas to stop this bad command box then everything will be as it is meant to be!
To be honest this update has been available for months so its also up to Adobe to pull their finger out and get it corrected because they are still giving the same instructions for newer updates as well.
I hope this helps somebody !!
    Shaun.

  • Can't import RAW files from Canon Rebel Xsi (450d)

I have to use an Adobe Camera Raw program to convert to DNG files and then import into iPhoto 08'. Not sure if I like DNG file and if there is any loss from converting. JPGS work fine. Love the Camera, shoots great photos. Does anyone know if Apple or another program that will convert into a Raw format from the Canon that iPhoto will take? Or will I just have to wait for a driver? I can import directly into Photoshop CS3 just fine.

That camera is so new that you're just going to have to wait for RAW support. Your option, in the meantime, is to use the Camera Raw conversion.

  • Can't open RAW files from Canon 70d in Elements 11.  Is there an update?

I have a new Canon  EOS 70D but my Elements 11 won't open RAW files. Is there an update i can download?

You need to upgrade to PSE12. Alternatively, download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software) You could also use the Canon software that came with your camera to convert to tiff, which would open in PSE11.
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.2
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.2
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Aperature can't read RAW files from my new Nikon D800. Help?

My Aperature is version 3.2.4 and I have done all the software updates.  I shoot in both JPEG and RAW, but aperature can only read the JPEG's.  Can anyone help?

The Nikon D800 raw support was included in "digital camera raw update 3.11", and that is the only one that I cannot find online any longer.
The raw support for Nikon D800 has now been moved directly into the latest MacOS X Releases - for MacOS X 10.7 it is built into MacOS X 10.7.4 or later, see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4757
and for Mt. Lion it is included in all releases, see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5371
But according to this list: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3825, if you are still using Snow Leopard, you will need the raw support from "digital camera raw update 3.11". What is the latest raw support you installed?
