Lightroom 2 - Charles

I just purchased the upgrade of Lightroom 2. However, when i lauch the program it crashes. If i re-install without creating a new catalogue - it's OK. when I restart the program crahses again. I am running windows vista 64 bit.

OOOOH. Charles, you're on to something that's maybe a help my situation. The Wacom!!!! Yeah, will do that. What made you think of that?
I'm having the same issue you are/were. Driving me nuts. Though, LR 1.4 seemed to run fine. Slow, but it did run, every now and then it would crash but that was when I was trying to do something faster then it could think.
Will do your routine and report back to the class. Maybe you've found something.

  • Lightroom 3.2 external editor problem

    Hello,
    I have been experiencing problems with using external editors in Lightroom 3.2.  Currently there are 3 external editors which display a problem (but all of which work fine as an external editor or stand-alone program).  Those are Alien Skin's new Exposure 3 and Bokeh 2 and also Photoshop CS5.  Whenever I use CS5 as an external editor, it will not open the file itself (this is all Mac OSX by the way), when I use EITHER Alien Skin program I get a weird result where the Path it chooses is a Time Machine backup and it will NOT edit my Lightroom file ...
    Any help will be GREATLY appreciated !!  as I said - all of these "plug-ins" work fine in stand alone mode - also Photoshop CS5 works fine OTHER than when it is used as an external editor from Lightroom.

    When I "show in finder", the file is shown in the correct path/location on the disk, which would suggest there should be no problem with editing in external editors, however the problem persists with CS5 not loading the actual file, and with Alien Skin plug-ins being unable to find the file (looking in wrong path) - here is a screenshot of "get info" for an image:

  • Can't cancel membership

    ADOBE....2015_0109_I force CANCELED CC PS & LR (credit card de-authorized) because there is no support help from anyone on this very issue. I was stuck trying to get PS to install on a second newer windows machine i built and needed it on the D drive for resource optimization. Since after Halloween of 2014 PS CC would not install and the vague error says to contact support. THERE IS NO support anymore with adobe! Then I tried to cancel my subscription, what a joke. It forces you to contact support. So i did. they FORCE you to leave a callback number and i did. It called back and put me on hold again! ...for over 23 minutes until i gave up. This is chicken **** ADOBE. I have been a customer since the early 80's and to be FORCED into this CC subscription that will not install correctly, to be forced into no live support from anyone, to be forced into a "YOU CANT CANCEL ON US," subscription program of bounce backs, redirects, and catch 22s...  That's it. Thank God i'm retired and can now DUMP your butt Adobe.

I'll tell you a little story. it is you lack of giving a damn about legacy customers like myself that will help take you down and then you will be looking for another job soon. I have been with adobe more than 30 years and given tens of thousands of dollars for software licenses, I was the first ever adobe certified training provider in central Texas, and I was a leading product expert for adobe to very wealthy upper class adobe clientele for over 12 years. And now the word is out that you are raising subscription prices after the first year? Who do you think you are? You HURT peoples ability to earn a living! You cost us hours and days and months trying trying to fix your problems so we can move forward with your products? Who in the hell do you think you are? Tell you what, dont cancel a thing. A media blitz and maybe a subpoena to San Jose is the right move to protect peoples rights. Your company needs to learn a lesson in how to treat legacy customers. I'm tired of being your company's test pig, doing the boiler plate cleaner routines, and having the same failures. It's one thing to have broken software, but NOT acceptable to treat customers the way I have been treated, and then, be greedy on a remediation offer from you.   • Photoshop CS5 not working as editor in Lightroom 3.

    Photoshop CS5 is not working as the default external editor in Lightroom 3. It works as the Additional Editor but then I cannot use any of the functions associated with the primary such as Merge to HDR, Open as Smart Object, Open as Layers. I have not been able to find an answer althought there are many similar problem threads.
    What happens? When I try to edit in PS5 primary external editor, photoshop opens and nothing happens with .dng files. Tiff files open. Raw do not open Not sure about psd. Cannot do anything with multiple files as they do not open at all (PS5 opens as usual- Nothing happens if PS5 already open)
    Mac 10.8.3
    LR 3.6 Camera Raw 6.6
    PCS5 12.0.4 ACR 6.7
    If anyone has solved this, please help me!!! I know its old software but it's what I have and would like it to work.

  • I bought and paid for LR5.  I was given a trial subscription to Cloud. That expired and Adobe shut me off from using the LR software I have bought and paid for. Surely this is outright theft.  I have got to get this fixed to meet business contracts. Charl

    Adobe has blocked my use of LR5 software that I bought and paid for. This happened when a trial Cloud subscription expired.  Adobe is illegally seizing my property, and threatening my business, unless I can get this full access to LR5 restored immediately.

    Of course you got cut off from the creative cloud! It's a 30 day trial, and if you don't subscribe you can't use the software that you downloaded from the creative cloud. It will have to be uninstalled. Then you can install from one of these websites:
    Adobe - Lightroom : For Windows : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
    Adobe - Lightroom : For Macintosh : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
    The program is identical, but licensing is completely different. And you cannot license the creative cloud installation with a serial number. The link I have given you it is for the trial version. When you start the program and the trial screen appears choose the option that indicates that you have a serial number. That will guide you through the process of entering your serial number.

  • Lightroom 3.2 crashes when importing another catelog

    Further to upgrading to Wnindows 3.2 I cannot import from another
    catelog created via LR 3.2 for Mac.  I get two crash notices and then LR closes and fails to import.  On occassion is locks importing keywords.  This is most annoying.
    The catelog has 94k of images over 10 Drives that include mapped drives on a WS2003 server.
    I have optimised the catelog, remove LR 2 and repaired the existing installation of 3.2 but still the issue persists!
    Can someone shed any light on this.

    If it really failed in ntdll.dll it might be a system issue.  Make sure you disable all real-time anti-virus processes, and make sure your Windows system is up-to-date.
    Otherwise, it will be hard to know what is going on. If it persists, open a support ticket with Adobe. Take a look in the event viewer to make sure you have all the details of the crash.

    I'm very very very new to all this, I plan on buying an imac soon and I'm trying my hand at amateur photography, but I am unsure what the difference b/w aperture, lightroom and adobe bridge is. Can anyone explain the differences in a nutshell?

    What Charles said. Aperture, Bridge and Lightroom are all applications for advanced digital image handling. Each has a steep learning curve that requires prerequisite full conversance with the Mac, batch image handling and digital photography in general. Simply running a trial version of Aperture, for instance, will not give a novice an appropriate idea of how Aperture behaves and what it is capable of.
    Take at least a thousand digital pics and manage them using (free) iPhoto. Buy (inexpensive) Adobe Photoshop Elements and learn basic image editing and manipulation. Then re-ask your question. New Aperture and Lightroom versions and new training routines will then be available and you will get much more relevant advice. Do not run the 30-day trial until you have righteous hardware and training CD tutorial(s) in hand.
    Planning an iMac purchase be aware that images processing is very hardware intensive. Anyone intending images processing should plan on buying strong hardware: Mac Pros, Macbook Pros or the highest end of the iMacs. Best performance will come from the strongest hardware. 2 GB RAM should be considered minimal.

  • Lightroom V1.4 won't allow me to edit files converted to.dng

    I use windows vista business edition. Recently when importing raw files into Lightroom: If I leave them as raw files I can then edit them either in Lightroom or Photoshop CS3. However if I convert the files to .dng, the files are importe but when I attempt to edit them eith in Lightroom or Photoshop I get an error message. Can anyone advise a fix.

  • Printing from Aperture, and printing from Lightroom.

    Hello,
    I have noticed when I print from Aperture using my Canon i9950 and a custom paper Colorsync profile, and if I then print from Adobe's Lightroom using the same Colorsync profile and paper, the print from Lightroom is much sharper. The Aperture print is exact in every respect except it is noticeably softer.
    Anyone else notice this? And if so is this a recognised problem that may be fixed in 1.1?

    Hi Charles, I totally agree with you. Lightroom's printing features are really excellent. In comparison Aperture almost seems like the printing of photographs was something the Aperture dev team bolted on at the last minute.
    I sincerely hope Apple sort out, what for me is inexcusable in a professional commercial app. A few photographers I know are going to use the next release of Aperture as a turning point, if it can't print as good as the Beta Lightroom then they will become Lightroom users and say good bye to Aperture.
    Apertures sorting and logging tools really are second to none, but if the print quality is poor, what is the point. I know for a large number of photographers, producing prints is not high on their list of needs, especially if they are supplying prints for publication or the web. But if I want to do what my old fashioned enlarger can do, which is create great prints, then hey I am not going to get it with Aperture.
    I know Apple can fix this, I just hope they do.

  • Lightroom 64-bit error loading flash player

    I just upgraded my computer to Win7 x64, and installed the most recent version of Lightroom which, of course, installed the 64-bit version of Lightroom 2.6.
    My problem, I get an error message whenever I go to the Web module:
    An unexpected error occurred while loading a module:
    Assertion failed: lua_pcall(L,2,1,0)==0
    Then if I click to continue, I get the message: Failure to load flash player
    Has anyone encountered this? Any solutions? I believe I have the most recent version of Adobe Flash Player installed. I'm stymied about how to go forward and I'm in the middle of rebuilding my portfolio gallery using SlideshowPro for Lightroom. I can still "build it" but I can't preview any of what I'm doing on screen in Lightroom.

    Thanks for your replies. I've read that Apple, for instance, won't support Flash on the iPhone (which I'd dearly love) because it's waiting for the "latest and greatest" HTML to replace it. Pretty silly really, since overnight, Flash won't disappear from sites that are already deeply coded in it. All you have to look at is the JPEG2000 spec to see that virtually no one has embraced this improved JPEG codec. Even Photoshop requires you install it as a goodie.
    Charlie, how did you get your Lightroom 64-bit to use the Flash player? Or are you still running the 32-bit under Win7 x64? I wish I hadn't updated my Lightroom, since I was running 2.5 32-bit and the player would still work. The stupid thing is, 64-bit Windows has been coming a long time. I downloaded (though never installed) 64-bit WinXP. Vista x64 was the first really major implementation of it, and now, most new computer systems (from Dell for instance) automatically ship with the 64-bit operating system. The raodmap was out there a long time. It annoys the crap out of me that suddenly a major component of Lightroom is non-functional.

  • Lightroom CC Constantly freezes

    Lightroom CC is constantly freezing up.  It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm in Develop mode, Library mode, or any other.  It takes one to three minutes to untangle itself, then continues as normal for a short while until the next freeze.  It will freeze on any keyboard shortcut at random, and will occasionally even freeze on mouse clicking the icons.  I have found no set pattern to the freezes.  I unchecked the "Use Graphics Acceleration" check box as my graphics card doesn't support Open GL 3, and that helped make the program marginally useable, but didn't solve the problem.  I gather that the program doesn't throw most tasks to the GPU acceleration anyway.  I'm at a loss.  Any suggestions?
    I now find that unless the computer is connected to the internet 100% of the time Lightroom is open, the freezes happen virtually all the time.  If the computer is connected to the internet, however, freezes are virtually non existent.  I don't always have internet when I wish to work on my photos, and I find this requirement extremely irritating.  Does Adobe really need to monitor my every move?????

    I save edited images from Photoshop into a new folder on the same hard drive my catalog is on, then attempt to import, or to right-click on the edited image and choose Open in Lightroom. Lightroom hangs in either situation.

    I receive the following message when I try to start Lightroom:

    Runtime Error!

    Please contact the application's support team for more information.
    Lightroom ran well for several days and then failed to open with the above message.
    I have tried everything I know to do (uninstalled and reinstalled the application, restored the computer to a restore point before Lightroom was originally installed, etc.) and do not know were to go from here. Suggestions would be appreciated.
    I am using Windows XP sp2 and have 4 GB of ram and 250 GB of hard disk space.

  • Lightroom imports photos to wrong folder

    I've been importing lots of photos from my hard drive into lightroom and been moving/renaming them in the process. I only got lightroom a few weeks ago.
    This has worked fine but i've recently imported a few hundred photos off my iphone and doing the same thing - move and rename. The trouble is, these photos keep going into the 2009 folder, instead of the 2012 or 2013 folders that they should be. When i look at the photos, they have the correct name, and the capture date seems to be correct, its just lightroom keeps wanting to put them in the wrong folder by year. Does anyone understand why this might be happening?
    naturally I want all my photos sorted into the right date folders as this is the way ive decided to organise my photos...

    hmm so still not making sense. it keeps wanting to import my photos into the wrong destination. have removed all the photo from lightroom. how do i change it so it automatically puts the photos into the corresponding year/month they were taken..

    the structure now is my pictures/2009/21-7-09 then its creating new year folders and sorting them within this 21-7-9 folder..
