Lightroom 2 import of small jpegs GLACIAL

Um, Not sure if this is a feature or a bug, but I'm importing about 120 jpegs (average size about 50kb) into LR2 and it took, like, thirty minutes. And this is on a Dual 2.3 G5 with gobs of RAM! It was slower than importing my D2X RAWs. Is there something I can do to fix this or is this a LR2 issue.
Thanks,
Antonio

So, now I'm trying to import about 1600 small jpgs and LR2 is almost totally locked and using way more CPU than I ever saw it use ever. Spinning beach balls abound. can't cancel the import because of them. This is intolerable. I'm afraid to force quit because this is my main library and I don't want to eff anything up. I can't even command tab into my Finder. Hey Adobe, what's up with this!?

I am using Lightroom on my MAC where I import the finalized JPEG-pictures into iPhoto to create a slideshow (for instance in combination with films). When exporting the slideshow with a 1080p resolution to iTunes I experience difficulties (missing slides and black transitions). When using JPEG-pictures directly from the camera there are no problems, so the manipulation in Lightroom seem to cause corrupt files. Does anyone recognize tje problem and could it have anything to do with the introduction of the Yosemite software? Is Lightroom already Yosemite-proof?

In iPhoto 11 the Originals folder is renamed Masters.

  • Lightroom not importing all images

I have a folder of 900 small jpegs in a folder on desktop.
Lightroom is only importing 898 of them. I don't have the energy to decipher what 2 are not getting imported. any idea out there? thanks.

How many images do you see in the Import dialog? Any duplicates? Are there any JPEGs which might be imported along with the Raw?

  • Lightroom color cast question of JPEG image

Lightroom color cast question of JPEG image
Camera Canon MKII Color Matrix Adobe RGB
Photoshop CS Color Setting Adobe RGB (1998)
Lightroom 1.2 as new lightroom user I did not think that I needed to choose a color setting or color profile until I am ready to print my photos. I have not done any preset camera calibration.
Link to my website with example photo http://www.basecampphotos.com/color.jpg
My question is why is Lightroom displaying the images with a yellow color cast ? The image is a print screen from Lightroom on the left and Photoshop on the right The color cast problem can be seen in the white walls of the stairway. Also when viewing the image with Windows Picture and Fax viewer the walls are white as expected.
Any ideas or suggestions as to why Lightroom is displaying the images with the yellow color cast or what I need to do to correct the issue ?
    Thanks
    Jim

Almost definitely a corrupt monitor profile. Time and again this turns out to be the cause of such differences between PS and LR. You need to recalibrate the monitor or if you do not have a hardware calibrator, delete the profile from windows' monitor properties pane to test and then get a hardware calibrator.
P.S since you are using adobeRGB jpegs, Windows picture and Fax viewers cannot give you the correct colors even on a calibrated monitor. Those are not color managed programs (I believe picture viewer finally is in Vista but definitely not in XP which you appear to be using). Also, PS has to be correctly set up to always preserve embedded profiles and to ask when you have profile mismatches, otherwise even PS will give incorrect color. Make sure to set this up in Edit>Color settings.
P.S.2: Make sure you are not applying defaults in Lightroom to your images either on import or elsewhere. Sometimes people by accident define develop defaults that in this case might contain a white balance shift. Go to LR preferences and open the Presets tab. Here click on "Reset all default Develop settings" and make sure that only the auto grayscale checkbox is ticked. For images that it might have already happened to, make sure to hit the reset button.

Same here. I've never had trouble with this function before.
It opens the Photoshop application with all the menus/windows, but it never opens the actual image I chose to work on.
I'm on a Mac, using OS X Yosemite, 10.10.1  Lightroom is version 5.7  Photoshop is CS5, version 12.0.4
FWIW, I also can't automate>Photomerge ... . Makes me think Photoshop, not Lightroom, is all wacky. I tried dumping PS preferences

  • Lightroom 4 importing causing program to crash.

Lightroom 4 will not import files. Windows 7 pop-up states; "there is a problem with this program that is preventing it from running correctly will check for solution". "Windows failed to find a solution must shut down program now".
This prevents the import page from loading or working and no images can be imported using usb or SATA connections. Was able to use computer's built-in card-reader to read from Sd and compact cards, those were able to run in the import window only because of preference setting. "when a Memory card is installed import files" (preference-setting).  Any other means of importing files, the out-come is the program crashing and being shut down. All other functions outside the import menu seem to be working. Deleting all catalogs and then using the default catalog setting,  failed to clear issue.
System info: Windows 7 64-bit, Intel i7 cpu, 16 gigs of ram, 4 one terabyte hard-drives.
Solutions tried. Removing Lightroom 4, all catalogs, then running defrag, registry cleaner, before attempting to re-installing lightroom 4.  Removing lightroom 4 and installing lightroom 3.6 fails to fix issue. Removing all Lightroom products from hardrive,Including the windows program folder, windows programs data folder. Then rebooting re-running defrag, registry cleaner and re-installing lightroom 4 fails to fix importing issue. No way to contact support and links to user group fail to take me to correct user group. Question with the lead as lightroom 4 importing causes program to crash. Takes me to everything but lightroom solutions!  Now this takes me to photoshop user group which has nothing to do with lightroom. With lightroom 4 in the question itself, I get everything but lightroom solutions!

Camera raw is built into Lightroom. It is the engine that makes the corrections within an image. You might not see as a seperate program, like earlier versions of Lightroom. Or having to launch it in a new window to work in camera raw. In version 4 of Lightroom it was made seamless and built into Lightroom.
Lightroom 4 was installed in the admin log-in window. I have all useage rights to any file lightroom creates or adjusts. I am thinking that the Photoshop CS6 beta created some working problem within Lightroom 4. Now that the beta-test program is over, I think the problem is a result of removing Photoshop's last build, before the public beta was released. I do hope, Adobe is working on a solution for people experiencing importing problems with Lightroom 4. I am just grabbing at straws here, trying to find something that will work. I think the problem will go away once computer has the new camera raw build 7.0 that ships in Photoshop CS6. With so many versions of camera raw installed on the computer, I think Lightroom is having issues as a result. Let's hope a patch is in the works, Lightroom 4 is useless if importing files doesn't work correctly.
B&H photo is taking pre-orders for the creative suites, right now. The only way to get support is by purchasing a subscription. Otherwise it is a $35.00 per issue fee. So, I am not sure of what upgrade path I will take. Not loving the cloud at all, with this year of Hackers, I seriously doubt that any cloud will prove to be safe to use. Why would, I want to post my hard work to a cloud where anyone can steal it? But that is a different topic.
For right now the only way to import is by creating an empty folder on the same hard-drive that Lightroom resides on. Setting up auto-import in Lightroom Pref. file to check that empty folder. Folder has to be empty to set up. Then dragging image files into that empty folder. I discovered that Lightroom 4 will not open or look in sub-folders for images. Which means you lose keeping a day's worth of shooting seperate from other folders. Where Lightroom version 3.6 you could. There was a second auto-import that worked, with my built-in memory-card reader. Where in the Lightroom pref.file you can tell Lightroom to auto-import, when a memory-card is detected. ( this is the least viable option, because more memory card become damaged removing and reinstalling them). These were the only two methods, I could get images into Lightroom 4 and prevent Lightroom from crashing.  Might have to go back to using Nikon NX to import my images and using Bridge to catalog them.

  • Import photo in jpeg-format from email

when I try to import photos in jpeg format from an email a window appears :" unreadable data " and the photos are not imported in the library of iPhoto, my iPhoto version :5.0.4 (263)

Single click the pic you want to send and select Email from the Share menu. You will have to set it up once the first time. Just follow the prompts. You'll get a chance to choose jpeg and the file size.

  • Lightroom PSE6 Import

I wish to move from Photoshop Elements 6 to Lightroom (1.3.1) running on Windows Vista. However I can't get Lightroom to import the PSE6 catalog. From what I can make out PSE6 uses a different catalog format from PSE5 and LR doesn't seem to recognise this.
I find it hard to believe that that the latest version of LR can't import from the latest version of PSE. Does anyone know how to make this work (even if it involves exporting the PSE6 catalog first)
Note: I've 20,000+ photo's in PSE6 and make use of the Album's feature to sort them, hence the need to import the catalog rather than simply importing the files

  • How to transfer RAW files from iPhoto to lightroom without converting them to jpeg

When I transfer RAW image file from iPhoto to my lightroom library they appear as jpeg files, how do I transfer them as RAW?

With the CCK, you can connect the camera or the camera's SD card.

  • How to have iPad (iOS 5) import only the JPEG from a RAW JPEG pair?

I have an iPad 2 16 GB, running iOS 5. I also have a Canon EOS 7D. I purchased a CF Card Reader for the iPad (see http://store.micgadget.com/card-readers/280-ipad-2-cf-card-camera-connection-kit .html) so that I can view and edit photos quickly in the field, without having to lug my laptop around. To make this easier, I set my camera to shoot RAW+JPEG. I shoot with the smallest JPEG files possible, still a relatively large for the iPad 2,592x1,728, with the idea that I'd only import the JPEG files to the iPad, but still have the RAW files to work with when I get back to my computer. This works great with one exception: the iPad doesn't allow me to import only the JPEG files, but grabs the RAW files along with them. As you can imagine, this fills up my iPad rather quickly, and takes quite a bit longer to import than if it only grabbed the JPEGs.
So here is my question: How do I have my iPad import only the JPEGs from the RAW+JPEG pairs on the memory card?
One workaround that helps slightly. If I connect my iPad to my computer after the import, I can go in via Image Capture, select all the RAW images and delete them, leaving the JPEGs behind. This is an underwhelming solution, but does save space after the fact.

What you are seeing is how Safari works now in iOS 5. There is no way to get that icon in Safari now. There other much better browsers available in the App Store. Look at iCab Mobile, Mercury, Atomic, ....
I have been running iOS 5x for so long now, that I don't even remember if that icon did appear in earlier iOS versions

I have scanned photos using an Epson V500 scanner set to scan using jpeg format at the highest quality (least compression) setting.  When I try to import the scanned jpegs into iPhoto, I get an error message from iPhoto saying "The file is an unrecognized format."  But if I reduce the quality setting on the Epson scanner to just slightly below highest quality, the images import into iPhoto just fine.  Why won't iPhoto accept jpegs scanned at the highest quality setting?  Wondering?

What scanner format settings dis you use?  Are these color photos? If they are B/W did you scan as grayscale images?  That could be the problem.
Are you able to open them with Preview?  If so do a Save As, select full quality and save as a jpeg with a new file name.  See if that file will import and work as intended.

  • Importing Raw and Jpeg file formats to Mac Pro

Since migrating to Photos from iPhotos when importing photos only Jpegs seem to get imported, not Raw files when shot in both formats on my NikonD5300. Does anyone know how i can import the two file formats simultaneously? (I have double checked the settings on my camera!)
    Thanks Louise

Photos will import both the RAW and the JPEG, but stack them and use only one of them as the original file.
You will see badge overlays "J" or "R", indicating if the RAW or the JPEG is currently uses as the original file to render edits.
Open the photo in "EDIT" mode, then you will be able to switch to the "RAW" version as the original file, in the "Image" menu.  The options "Use RAW as original" or "Use JPEG as original" are only available in Edit mode, also "Reprocess RAW"

  • Itunes will only import a small ammount of my video

I'm having this problem with a couple videos I'm trying to import. I simply drag and drop my videos and it seem's to work fine for most, but I have this one video that's 11minutes long, and Itunes will only import 1 minute of the entire video. Anyone have any idea why it's only importing a small amount of any of my videos?

This sounds like what I need, unfortunately, when I click on file, consolidate files isn't an option...

  • I cannot save after I place a small jpeg into illustrator CS6.

I cannot save after I place a small jpeg into illustrator CS6.

    hey Jacob-
So I've tried creating a new document and pasting all of the artwork in that document. Nothing changed.
I checked all of the jpeg's I'm working with, resized some or made smaller etc. At this point I'm seeing no issues with the jpegs
and the illustrator file I'm working with....no stray points, did a clean up.
It's the action of saving the informatin to the file.  The spinning beach ball appears....forever. Weird, because I just had a job where I was
doing the exact same action and had no issues.
I also re-down loaded all of the jpegs. I'm recieving these from a dropbox folder, copied to my dropbox folder. I use dropbox to receive
files daily so I don't think that's the problem but maybe there is a problem in the transfer???
I have a call into Adobe at this point. Tomorrow I will recieve a call from their tech support.
Thank you for your help thus far and if you have any other suggestions I'm open to them.
    Martha
