LIghtroom 2 or 2.1 ate my keywords, 10,000 images without keywords

Help
i have just realized that LR no longer has keywords for images either from 2 or 2.1 upgrade time. I ma not sure if they came into LR2, becuse i was too busy to pay attention. Anyway, i have MacBook Pro running 10.5 OS, 4 GB memory, all RAW photo files on a separate hard drive. I do have LR1.x catalogue backed up but no idea what to do now. i have seen a couple places on the internet that said a similar problem existed, but the fix did nothing for me.
thanks
Joyce

LR ate my Keywords when I upgraded from 2 to 2.1. 5000 of my images lost keywords.
I don't like that every upgrade I have to rekeyword, or get a fix.

  • Assign Keyword to multiple images

The book which comes with the Aperture3 software says that you can assign a keyword to multiple images without having to assign it individually to each image. Using the keyword HUD I cannot get it to assign a keyword to all images in a stack or images which have been group selected. Also I have looked at the manual on line and it says one can do this. How do they do it using the split view browser and stacks or grouping?

Interesting. I just tried it again, on Aperture Version 3.0.3 running on a 2008 MacBook Pro and OS 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard). I stacked two masters then selected both within the stack, both appeared in the viewer window. I dragged a keyword from the Keyword Hud over one of the pictures in the viewer window. When the photo border changed to green, I let go of the mouse button and Aperture applied the keyword to both masters. Next I selected one photo, then made an adjustment which created a stack of the master and the version. I repeated the procedure and Aperture applied the keyword to both the version and the master.
OH! Do you have "stack picks only" checked in the Photo Filter? That would prevent the keyword from being applied to the lower photos in the stacks.
By the way, the photos don't have to be stacked to apply keywords, other effects, to multiples. They merely have to be selected.

  • I am looking into Lightroom (Creative Cloud) to allow a Team Member access my Catalog to keyword search which images will work for our Social Media platforms.

I am looking at LR Creative Cloud to allow a Team Member access my catalog so she can keyword search which images will work for our social media campaigns. My catalog has both personal and business images (which are in separate folders), however, I only want them to access the business images. What is the best way to do this?
and a second question as I am new to the Cloud LR product. I am assuming that my images still stay on my external drive...how am I or her able to view these images if I am out of town on another computer?

My catalog has both personal and business images (which are in separate folders), however, I only want them to access the business images. What is the best way to do this?
I think the only way in Lightroom to make this happen is to use two catalogs, one for business and one for personal, and then prevent access to the personal catalog via putting it on a disk or location that your team member does not have access to.
I am assuming that my images still stay on my external drive...how am I or her able to view these images if I am out of town on another computer?
Situations like this require you to put the catalog file AND photos on the external HD and then move the external drive to whatever location and whatever computer is needed. An alternative is to put the photos on a network drive and the catalog file on a local disk and access the catalog locally and the photos via network, but that limits you to using a single computer.
I am looking at LR Creative Cloud to allow a Team Member access my catalog so she can keyword search which images will work for our social media campaigns.
As far as I know, this does not require Creative Cloud, nor does Creative Cloud help in this situation. Furthermore, if you are thinking about a situation where you and your team member have simultaneous access to the catalog(s) of interest, this is not possible in Lightroom. Lightroom is a single user application.
If you are interested in a true multi-use application, where more than one individual can access a catalog at the same time, you might want to look at Daminion. Note: I am not endorsing or recommending Daminion, as I have never used it; I simply point out the that it has the feature being discussed.

  • Adding/Deleting keywords for multiple images

Well, I'm finally paying the price for bad keyword management and I'm trying to clean up my nightmare of a system now but running into trouble.
    I'm using Lightroom 3.2.
My workflow follows one of two types:
    1) I'm shooting something specific (soccer games) and I import the shots and immediately assign the appropriate keywords (soccer, which kid it is, which tournament it is)
    2) I've taken shots of multiple events/subjects and I haven't had time to download and organize.  I will then import with a 'file later' tag so I can easily search and keyword them later and then re-use the card.
Well 'file later' is now about 3000 images!  Doh!
I'm going through and properly assigning them but I'm having a lot of trouble with what I *think* should work in Lightroom.
    There are several things here:
First, if I choose the 'File Later' keyword, it will pull up the metadata filters options on the top of the grid view.  No matter what I do, I can't make it go away.  If I do get it to go away, I wind up viewing ALL my pictures which is not what I want.
Second, if I choose multiple pictures by ctrl-clicking or shift-clicking, It appears I can assign a keyword to multiple shots.  I cannot REMOVE a keyword from multiple shots. Lightroom seems to only want to remove the keyword from one picture at a time even if they are all selected.
Third, the painter tool does not work...at all.  Enabling it and then selecting and applying or removing does nothing.
So, what am I looking for here?
Organizing for these should be pretty easy since most are in blocks and I can apply the same keywords quickly.  However, removing the keywords one at a time is a huge pain.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks

First, if I choose the 'File Later' keyword, it will pull up the metadata filters options on the top of the grid view.  No matter what I do, I can't make it go away.  If I do get it to go away, I wind up viewing ALL my pictures which is not what I want.
This is the filter dialog - of course if you close it you turn back to All Photographs. Try creating a Smart Collection based on your File Later keyword - this collection will automatically populate all your images that have that particular keyword. Once you have keyworded the pictures from e.g. one particular shot, just remove the File Later-KW and those images will disappear from the collection.
I'm not sure why you can't remove keywords from multiple images - it just works fine here by selecting multiple images and delete the keyword.
Most of the times I use the Keyword List to assign/delete keywords because in my opinion it is the easiest way - I just browse thru my list or filter for a particular kw and tick the box on the left.
Creating a hierarchical keyword list can further simplify your work. For example the location: organize the final keyword xyz-Soccer Stadium into other keywords like Town>County>State>Country>Continent>Places, then you only have to tick the last keyword xyz-Soccer Stadium and with that assign all of those keywords in the hierarchy (I know thats kind of a complicated explanation...but I suggest you play around a bit and then you will get the full picture ).

  • How to import images and keywords from Nikon PictureProject to LR2?

I have several thousand pictures that I have captured with my Nikon cameras (the present being a D300). I have imported those to my Mac (OS X) using the Nikon PictureProject software. This software has now been discontinued by Nikon, and I have switched to using Lightroom 2 instead.  But when I try to import my photo library from Nikon PictureProject all the keywords describing the images are eliminated and I only get a date and number. This is obviously creating a big problem. Nikon has replied that they have no solution to propose! Has anyone else been exposed to the same difficulty? And has some creative person found a solution?
    Thank you for your assistance!

Thank you for your help! My wife Marianne who has the problem has used PictureProject in a very special way. She has typed in the keywords on the line where PictureProject gives the basic information about the photo DCS3_7325 for example. Where DCS3 shows it is a digital Nikon camera D300 and the 7325 is the camera's (own I imagine) number for the original photo.
In front of this my wife has written the description of the photos e.g. "Paris bridges Pont Neuf". (And not in the place provided by PictureProject for keywords.)
It has been possible to search the photos by typing in the added words.
Do you think that this additional (not intended by PictureProject) information could be imported to Lightroom2?
Thank you for using your experience to see if this can be solved.

  • Keyword synonyms created as new keywords on import

I just exported a large batch of images sized for submission to Alamy.  I had the images that were created by the export, imported back into Lightroom.
The problem.  All the keyword synonyms that were exported in the images, created new stand alone keywords in the keyword list - bad.
I had all my keywords nicely organized into 12 neat groups.  Now I have a couple of hundred top level keywords because of the synonyms.
    Can this be prevented?
    thanks
    bill

When a keyword is exported in an image, its synonyms are also exported by default.  Sincere there is no industry standard governing synonyms, LR exports them as top-level keywords.   And then when you reimport the exported image, those top-level keywords get added to your catalog.
You can stop the synonyms from being exported by right-clicking their containing keyword in the Keyword List pane, selecting Edit Keyword Tag, and unchecking Export Synonyms.  Unfortunately, you'll have to do that with each keyword that contains synonyms -- there is no batch editing of keywords.

  • Easy way to add a single keyword to an image?

I just organized a bunch of photos I took at a birthday party, and ran into some <br />awkwardness when keywording.  Hopefully it's just user ignorance, but if not, <br />maybe someone can offer a workaround.<br /><br />I did the import with no keywords, because I wasn't thinking.  Once I'd done <br />that, I selected all images in the "Last Import", hit Ctrl-K, and typed Birthday <br />(which is one of my standard keywords).  Then I deselected all images and <br />started doing selective keywording.  That's where it started getting awkward.<br /><br />I had several shots that had my son in them, so I selected all of them and hit <br />Ctrl-K.  This put my cursor in the keyword box in the right-side panel, with <br />Birthday highlighted.  I hit <End>, then typed comma and MySonsName.  No problem <br />so far.<br /><br />I delselected the shots and selected the ones that had my daughter in them.  The <br />right-side keyword panel now showed something like "Birthday*, MySonsName*".  I <br />wasn't sure whether I could just add MyDaughtersName to the images without <br />actually adding MySonsName to all selected images (even those without my son in <br />them).  That's the awkward part.<br /><br />What I found was that in order to add a single keyword to a bunch of images at <br />once, I had to enable Keyword Stamping and use that.  An alternative was to "Set <br />Keyword Shortcut", enter the keyword, select the images I wanted, and then use <br />"K" to add the shortcutted keyword to the images.<br /><br />Is there any way to simply say "add this keyword to all selected images" in one <br />atomic action?  In other words, hit a keystroke, type the keyword, hit Enter, <br />and it's now applied to all selected images.<br /><br />-- <br />Rob Freundlich<br />"Males ae biologically driven to go out and hunt giraffes." - Newt Gingrich<br />"Some folks you don't have to satirize, you just quote 'em." - Tom Paxton

  • How to copy keywords from one image to many in Bridge CS6 (workaround)

I see a few questions about how to do this, but I didn't see this workaround (maybe it's even the workflow Adobe had in mind). Hope it helps others searching for this.
To copy keywords from one photo, and then apply the same keywords to many, in Bridge CS6:
Select one image that has the keywords you want to copy.
    Right-click and choose File Info...
On the IPTC tab, scroll down to find the Keywords field. Select and copy the keywords you want (probably all).
Click Cancel to exit without making accidental changes.
Select the files you want to add the keywords to.
    Right-click and choose File Info...
On the IPTC tab, scroll down to find the Keywords field.
Click in it and paste your copied keywords.
Click OK. Keywords are applied to all files. (NOTE: I think this replaces keywords, rather than adding to them).
    I'm using CS6 on OS X 10.6.8.

    Sara,
Why wouldn't you just use a Windows .bat file with xcopy statements?  You could even schedule it to run with the Windows task scheduler.

    Jeremy Good

  • Search for images using Keywords Problem.

    1) In LR4, Search for images using Keywords (click on arrow next to Keyword).
    2) Select image, export to PS6, save as Tif.
    3) Tif retains all Keywords when it appears in LR
    4) Despite that, image does not show up in the same 'Search for images using Keywords'.
Can anyone help with this, it is frustrating me!

  • How do I add keywords to my images using DW?

How do I add keywords to my images using DW?

Well, there's <meta> keywords, then there are "keywords", here's an example...
<meta name="keywords" content="everything, you, can, pack, into, this, tag, doesn't, matter, what, or, if, it, makes, sense">
...is totally obsolete for the reason I hint at in that tag example itself. There was a time, long ago in the dark ages of web design, where the keywords meta was actually used to determine page content to some degree. Developers immediately took advantage of it and started cramming everything they could think of into the <meta>, even totally unrelated but popular search terms, in the hopes that it would affect their rankings. It did, for a time, until the search engines got smarter and started totally ignoring the tag all together.
"Keywords" changed meaning after that. Now search engines actually look at your page content and determine what your page is about. Making keyword rich, relevant html text (not odd blocks of random coma separated text anymore) is one of the things (there are many pieces to Search Engine Optimization or SEO) that determines if someone finds you using a particular word or phrase.

  • Can't apply keyword to multiple images

Though the help file says you can, when I select multiple photos and then click on a keyword, it only applies the keyword to one of the photos. Same thing if I click the checkmark next to the keyword. It does apply to all selected photos if I drag the images to the keyword, but why doesn't it work when I just click the keyword?
    Thanks

Two things, you have to be in Grid View, not Filmstrip Selection and not have Menu/Metadata/'Show Metadata for Target Photo Only' checked. I and others have gotten bitten by this, too.

  • Select images using keywords and view slideshow...using what?

I have a library full of jpeg images that were created either using the export command from LR or by editing in Br/Ps and then savedAs jpeg. Now I want to watch slideshows on my monitor (30" Apple HD Cinema Display). Now I have the following Dilemma:
    - I can start a Search Command in Bridge and narrow it down to exactly the images I want in my slide show. Then from the View menu select Slideshow. The IQ is terrible. True sharpness is only revealed when zooming in 100% but that's not the idea of a slide show.
    - I can also use Apple OS's (Tiger) built-in slide show and start it from the finder. That way I get high quality, fast dissolving slide shows, that are unfortunately limited to the first 100 images in the Finder view. However, in the Finder I cannot select my images using keywords and IPTC info.
So could there be a simple solution to the problems I'm running into with Bridge?
Or could there be a nice viewer for MacOS that features the search option I want and renders good images and dissolve option?
    Thanks.

@Ann Shelbourne: Thanks for your reply. I'm hesitant to upgrade to CS4 at this point. That would mean my only option is to look for a jpeg viewer other than Adobe that can select images based on keywords and iptc data. Would you know one that does?
@Ramon G Castaneda: I apologise for being an inexperienced forum visitor. I will take note of your advice and follow the posting instructions.
I checked FAQ's both here and at Adobe, as well as the knowledge base. No results. I also searched the forum.
My setup: MPB dual core Intel, 2GB RAM, 30GB free disk space. Adobe CS3, just updated to Bridge version 2.1.1.9. No improvement at all so far. According to Ann only CS4 will solve the problem.
    Thank you.

  • Does LR v1.0 have a Keyword limit of approx 1700 keywords?

I've tried every method, short of retyping, of importing keywords from Bridge-CS2 into LR v1.0. I have 2200+ keywords in CS2. LR consistently stops importing, or adding more keywords from imported images, when it has accumulated approx 1700 of the 2200+ keywords.
    Thanks for any resolution.

Is this a "Give LR time" situaton? Like with the blank Metadata Fields after import, takes time for LR to digest it all?

  • Display of keywords for multiple images error in LR5

In LR5, when two images are selected in Library view, the results in the Keyword Tags panel are incomplete. In my instance, two images were selected. They have some common keywords and those are properly displayed. However, the keywords assigned to only one image appeared with an asterisk in previous versions of LR, a behavior I would like to see continue.
In my instance, one keyword for, we'll say, Image A only, appears but with no asterisk, it should display an asterisk. And, one keyword unique to Image B does not appear at all when both images have been selected, it too should appear with an asterisk.
I'm on a Mac running 10.8.4 and LR CC.

Are you in GRID view when you have the multiple photos selected?  The asterisk only shows up in Grid view.  I am also on 10.8.4 and it works for me.
