Lightroom 2 Print Jaggies

Hello All,
Working away with Lightroom 2 and everything seemed to be working fine until I made my first set of 8 1/2" x 11" Prints. They seem way over sharpened and I am seeing jaggies. When I did my first set of prints, I forgot to let Photoshop determine colors and didn't have my paper profile selected. I corrected that, and started a reprint, and I am getting the same results. Could this be as simple as doing a reboot? Perhaps the corrected settings don't load unless you restart? Otherwise if this is not the problem, I am not sure what the problem is. I had been using Lightroom 2 Beta for printing and getting superb results. In the 2.0 Beta, I was selecting print sharp High and media type Matte. I am printing with the Epson 2200 and I am on a PC running XP. Anyone else having this problem? I wonder how significant the changes were in the printing module in the 2.0 beta versus the final version 2?
Thanks,
J. Paul

>Just wanted to say ditto.
My prints in LR2 look like they were up-rezd from a smaller file.
Just to make sure you know. There was a major bug in LR 2.0 that could result in very low-res output. They fixed this in 2.1 RC, so if you haven't tried that do it now. You do have to make sure however that you check the print resolution box and put an appropriate upres number in the field behind it as unchecking the box does not result in printing at the native resolution. Due to a remaining bug, you cannot print at native resolution in Lightroom 2.1 RC, so you should always upscale. Problematic in this is that due to a peculiarity in the scaling algorithm that Lightroom uses you can generate jaggies and halos on very high contrast edges that might look like loss of resolution.

  • PLEASE walk me through correct settings for lightroom 4 printing?

Im working from Mac OS X Yosemite and my new printer is Canon MG7520.  I can't get a photo to look good for the life of me please help with a step by step instructions??  THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
Amateur photographer.   need color management help on how to either turn off lightroom or printer to manage the color.  I've read a ton of web content but still having issues.

On that printer, I do not believe there are any icc profile, so let the printer manage the color.
Be sure when viewing your photos on the screen to turn your monitor down to 25% brightness to edit your photos esp for printing
Also it is easiest to match printer brand and printer paper brand

  • Lightroom 5 Prints are too Dark - We Need a Fix Now!

hen I export as a JPG and print, the prints are fine.
When I print from Lightroom's Print Module, the prints come out too dark with a significant loss of detail in shadow.
Adobe....  This has been a major problem since version LR 1...  It is High time you fixed it!  I have wasted dozens of sheets of paper due to this problem!!
My screen is a 24" calibrated IPS ASUS monitor.

    Hi Butch
Do a google search for Lightroom Prints too Dark and you will find dozens of posts for all versions of LR. It is a common problem.
There are many hardware and software issues that according to a "Google search" would appear as a universal problem, while in reality, they are far from widespread. I can assure you that Lightroom would not be as popular as it is today if this were indeed a universal problem.

I also upload images from LR to a Print Lab and the prints are fine.
Yes, but is your lab making adjustments to the images during the print process? Many do. My labs do not, they simply print the files as they are submitted. Many consumer and "pro"-sumer labs apply auto correction to image files. Most of these labs do not even inform you that they are applying those adjustments.

The problem is using the LR Print Module to print on a printer attached to my PC.
I have the same problem with an Epson R1900 and a Mitsubishi
Yes ... and if you are applying the same settings/instructions in Lr for printing, the problem will persist regardless of the brand of printer used.
    Robert Mack wrote:
LR had ICM managed by Printer. The Printer has ICM managed by Host.
I did try this using the printer's ICM profile within LR. Still too dark.
This could be part of your problem ... if Lightroom is set for the printer to handle color management by the printer ... and your printer is set to be color managed by the host (i.e. - Lightroom) ... then in actuality, the images you are printing from Lightroom are not being color managed at all. Ideally, you should have Lightroom set to manage printing when you have the printer driver set to "managed by Host" ...
    Robert Mack wrote:
No windows apps are adding any additional processing in the printing process as far as I am aware of. The only exposure correction / adjustment was done in LR..... I am choosing the same printer paper profiles in all methods of printing.
You may not be making settings in your Windows apps ... but if your printer driver is set to make auto adjustments by default when printing from these apps could explain the difference.
Additionally, many folks think they are "calibrating" their monitors when they are not doing so as it pertains to printing. Accurate color is only one phase. While your colors may appear true, the monitor brightness may be too much to accurately render a near match of what a printed version of the image would be reproduced.
As trshaner pointed out, not only do you need to render a close approximation of color ... but also overall brightness. Most monitors/displays, even very expensive and high resolution displays, are extremely bright at default settings for rendering a close match for printed material. That overall brightness level should fall within 90 to 120 cd/m2 and be adjusted as needed for your specific viewing environment and papers and printer inks combinations.

  • Lightroom not printing correct size image

I am finding that my Lightroom 5 prints are bigger than the settings that I input in the Print module.  Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong?

Okay, let's see if I can accurately describe everything.  I will just run down the list of settings in each drop down menu.
    Layout - single image
Image Settings - Zoom to fill
    Layout - page p/grid rows & columns 1, cell size H - 6.00 in, W - 9.00 in
    Guides - all checked
Print job - only 16 bit is checked
The printer settings are for an Epson R2400 using default presets, enhanced matte paper, best photo.  I am trying to print 6x9 inches and I get a 6 1/16 x 9 3/16 inch print.
I hope that is what you need to help.

  • Lightroom 3 printing problem

Sometimes when i  save a photo as a jpeg and send it out to be printed I end up with a border on the sides or the bottom. i want the photo to fill the frame. i have been all over the tutorials through Kelby training and a book. i'm just not getting it . the margins do not want to set to zero. i do not print at home and have a cheap HP printer. i can set the paper sze to what i want but i still have he problem. Any sugestions will be appreciated.

Lightroom and printing work in ratios so to get your 3000x2000 pixel image (which is a 3:2 ratio) to fit a 14 x 11" print (14:11 ratio) you end up with with edges. So the ratios need to be the same. Best way is to set up a crop ratio in the Develop module Crop tool of 14x11 and crop the file before you export, then you can adjust any cropping to suit.
    See this example:

  • Lightroom 3 prints with magenta cast

    Hi,
My lightroom 3 prints with all red objects in the picture having a dreadful magenta colour cast, both on my Epson r2400 and on my HP colour Laserjet 2605dn. Printing from window explorer is OK - colours look fine but there aren't so many options for printing available.

Yes, as suggested, go into your printer settings (which you access in LR at Print Module > Page Setup (lower left) > Properties (for your printer).  Now this will vary, depending on the make and model of your printer, but for my Canon printer, you access this at Main > Color Intensity: Manual > Set.  In WinXP, I needed to UNCHECK Enable ICM (Windows Image Control Management). In Win 7, I get more accurate color with this same setting CHECKED on. You will want to save the correct settings at LR > Print module > User templates (on the left).
If that doesn't solve it, this common issue can have different causes depending on your gear and on your settings, so some experimentation is in order.
What has caused this issue for me:
    In LR
    > Print module > Print Job (on the right, at the bottom) > Profile > Managed By Printer. Beat suggested this setting. For me, this setting causes color shift and exposure shift issues in prints. If you've already had this setting enabled (I believe it's enabled by default), it may need to be changed. For me, the fix was downloading printer paper profiles from my printer company's website and installing them into Windows as instructed and then selecting the correct one of them, matching my photo paper and using corresponding settings in the printer settings, instead of Managed By Printer.
Another cause for this issue can be failure to use a hardware color calibrator.  Even if you have run a software-based color calibration routine and get reasonably accurate color in other programs, using a hardware color calibrator, even a $100 or under one, and carefully following all the calibrator instructions (these devices can make things worse when used plug-n-play) will remove color casts and make prints that are too dark in LR much more accurate, matching print to monitor.
There are likely other causes and fixes as well.
When you get it figured out, type yourself a note listing everything you did and where you found each setting, and save the file.  Someday after reinstalling LR, you will need it again.

  • Lightroom CC prints

Lightroom CC prints  coming out green.  Look balanced on all moniters and same images processed in Corel print normally.  I have tried 4 different printers, results same on all.

You need to supply some additional info...
    What OS, what version?
    What printers?
Do you have Lightroom manage color or the printer?
Are you using the proper ICC profiles for the printer/paper you are using?
Generally, green and dark idicates no color management, lite and magenta indicates double color mamagement.

  • Questions about Using Lightroom and Print Studio Pro

I want to use Print Studio pro via the lightroom plugin since as I understand it, that is the only way to ensure a 16-bit file is being passed to the printer (on Windows).  However, I am a little confused about how the image is being rendered.  Is lightroom applying a default output sharpening to the file before handing it off to Print Studio Pro or Does Print Studio Pro manage resolution and Output sharpening based on the media and print size you choose?
So basically I am wondering if there is any output sharpening being applied, and when is it applied.  The possibilities I think would be:
Lightroom is applying a default output sharpening when rendering the file to TIF for Print Studio Pro (If this is the case, what setting is being applied and is it possible to change it?)
Print Studio Pro is applying output sharpening based on media type and print size, or applying a generiz amount of sharpening that does not take into account media or size.
No Sharpening is being applied.  In this case, I should probably be exporting this file manually with output sharpening applied and then opening in Print Studio Pro
The other question I have is if when using the plugin is the TIF file that is being generated in 16-bit pro-photo to ensure the maximum amount of color data?
Because if Print Studio Pro is not applying sharpening I think it may just be better to print through the lightroom tool even though it renders down to 8-bit because the amount of control I have via the lightroom print module would be far more advantageous than any color data I am losing by printing in 8-bit.
Anyone know the answer to all this?

I had similar questions when I first got my Pro-100.
    1. You can call up PSP from any module, so I assume it is ignoring print module settings.
    2. If I select a Saved Print, which adjusts the print module settings specific to that print, and the open PSP the paper settings in PSP are not what is in LR, supporting the "ignore" conclusion.
    3. I ran some test prints using LR to print at three different output sharpening settings (Off, Standard, High) to ensure I could see a difference (I did).
    4. I ran four test prints: LR-Standard, XPS driver, LR-Standard regular driver, PSP using standard driver and PSP using XPS driver. I couldn't see any difference between the four prints.
Since LR is such an easy printing process I haven't seen a reason to use PSP.

  • Lightroom 3 Print Moduel Layout Style not working??

    Hi all,
With no change in Lightroom, all of a sudden I have issues with the "picture package" and "custom package" settings within the layout styles in the print module.
For instance, if you are in "single image/contact sheet" and you have an image selected and on screen, then when you change to either "picture package" or "custom package" what should happen is that the image is then refected in the new picture package present. This does not happen at all.
I can not even choose a present (which should work), or drag an image onto the page. It seems that "picture package" and "custom package" are simply not working at all.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
computer 1 is an imac using 10.6.8, and computer 2 is a slightly older imac using 10.5.8
PS. it is now happening on both our computers which are on a network??

Good point.  I don't have the latest.  I'll give it a try and post back to the site.

  • Lightroom 5 Printing under Mac OS 10.8 - crashes

I have been using  Adobe Lightroom for several years - no problems. Recently I installed LR 5 on my imac  running OS 10.8. Two days ago I was able to print files. Suddenly Lightroom 5 crashed as it exceutes the print script. Have re-installed LR5 sereral times. I appear to be able to carry out all LR functions APART from printing. Is this an LR problem or in incompatability with OS 10.8 or somefrom of iMac issue - Swap etc. Any suggestions or help welcome. Ray

I had a similar problem with LR 5.  After deleting preferences, uninstalling and reinstalling and spending over an hour on chat 'support' with Adobe changing permissions, nothing worked.  Finally, I  found an obscure solution in a thread related to LR 4.  I'm running OS X 10.9 (Mavericks).  Check the print dialog box where you can select to print "all" the pages or a page range.  For me, the page range radial was highlighted and the defined page range was "5" to "5". When I changed the print range to "1" to "1", it worked!  I have no idea why.

  • Lightroom 4 printing issue

I recently got a new printer: Canon Pixma MG7520. When printing with Lightroom 4, I choose borderless printing. The printer works great, but it seems to crop off about 1/4" of the photo all around.. I've tried selecting different paper settings, but nothing seems to work. The preview in Lightroom shows the entire photo. This cropping only happens when printing. Has anyone run into this problem and know how to resolve this?
    Thanks in advance!
    M

It took me a bit of fiddling but I was able to print borderless images from Lightroom 4.4.  I'm using Windows 7.
In Lightroom, on the Print tab, make sure that your margins are set to 0 and the your cell size sliders are all the way to the right, in my case height of 4.00 and width of 6.00.
In the Printer Properties, set to Borderless.
In Lightroom there is a couple of pixel white border on the right of my picture, evident in the first screenshot, but it doesn't appear on the actual print.  I hope that this helps somebody.

  • Lightroom 5 print templates not allowing images to be moved into cells & not allowing individual cells to be selected

I've run into a problem using the LR5 print templates that has occurred suddenly and I need help figuring out what happened.
Yesterday I tried using a Print template from my User Templates menu and the one I selected wouldn't allow an image to be dragged into a cell.  I also noticed that the template wouldn't allow me to select the cells for size adjustment, either.  Other templates had the same behavior, even the templates in the Lightroom Templates menu.
Not only that, but when I hover the mouse cursor over the template name in the menu it displays the template properly in the Preview pane above the menus, but when I click the mouse to select the template the Preview display changes to one that's completely different, which is the same as what shows in the main viewing area.
I have a few non-Lightroom templates (added by me) that work properly, but all of the Print templates in the Lightroom Templates menu show these symptoms.  How can I get the Lightroom Print Templates to behave?
    Anybody...suggestions??
    Thanks!

I'm having almost the exact same problem.    the Lightroom library is not recognizing that the files stored in a LOCAL dropbox folder are the same ones as in the library.   So if I try to "synch" library, i end up with 40k photos that are missing from my library but they are not.   They are there.

  • All my prints using: Lightroom 5, printer color management turned off, and non-generic ICC profile (e.g. Epson Premium Glossy) have magenta tint or cast

I'm using PC with: Windows 8.1, 64bit, Lightroom 5.4, Epson R3000, 6.75 (latest) driver, color management turned off in printer settings, Lightroom configured to manage color.  If I use a generic ICC profile such as Epson sRGB, the prints look OK.  But when I use any ICC profile dedicated to my paper and printer combination, such as Epson Premium Glossy, or one created using ColorMunki print profile, the prints all have a medium to heavy magenta tint or cast.  The effect can be seen before I even print in the Epson Print Preview.  Yet when I soft proof, I don't see this effect.  I suspect the problem lies somewhere in the CMM process, but I can't pin it down.  Any tips or suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you kindly for your insightful response.  As it turns out, the answer is half correct.  I've found others who'll say the same thing, that double color management will lead to a very magenta result.  I believe this was certainly the case when I first started playing with the settings,  Where I went wrong, is that after I corrected my settings by turning off printer manages color and letting Lightroom do the color management, is that the Epson Print Preview was still showing magenta with certain profiles.  Not wanting to waste more money on paper and ink, I used the preview to gauge whether I was going to get a normal print or not.  Then one day I ignored the print preview's magenta cast as a 'warning' and I went ahead printed the photo anyways.  Because I used a profile that I created with ColorMunki Photo, the picture came out perfect (i.e. a very good match to what I was seeing in Lightoom on my monitor).  The lesson learned is that for judging the final color correctness, the Epson Print Preview can be way off target and your best bet is to ignore it.

  • Lightroom 4 printing crash

Hello, and thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.
    I am working with Mac OS V 10.8.3 and Lightroom V 4.4
I am unable to print. When I go to print an image (using any one of 4 printers) I get the Mac print dialog box and then as soon as I hit enter Lightroom crashes/closes.
All other applications print fine to the various printers.
I have tried reinstalling both Lightroom and all the printer drivers.
If I create a new mac user account and then try to print, it works fine.
I started with Lighroom I and have upgraded all the way to 4 and never had any trouble until 4. I have NEVER been able to print from Lightroom 4. My work-around has been printing through photoshop CS6 but that just too inconvenient at times.
I have worked with Victoria aka "Lightroom Queen" and we haven't been able to come to a solution.

So, I had this problem tonight after experiencing no problems with Lightroom 4 previously. I noticed that in the print dialog box, where you can select to print "all" the pages or a page range, the page range radial was highlighted and the defined page range was "7" to "7". I was only printing one image so I changed the print range to "1" to "1". And it did the trick. Crazy, eh?
