Lightroom 3.2 is really crab

Sorry to say that, but for me LR 3.2 is unusable:
- I have around 5000NEFs in my catalog. Actually I have 400 NEFs in the current project to work. When you walk through the project
by using the filmstripe and you'll have to inspect some photos the loading time for the photo to shop up fully around 2 minutes,
zooming in 30sec zooming out 30 sec, clicking next photo shows no reaction for some time.
- if you walk through that without doing anything else you can see how your main memory is eaten up. I have 8Gb of memory
and after 45 min I have to quit LR and restart it.
- it really gets worst if you need to edit one of your photos: All edit functions don't react immediately. If you use the brush
it took 16 sec until the menu shows up. If you try to use brush you think nothing is happen. Suddenly after 30 sec you
recognize that eventually something might have happen. When you have to control points of the brush in your photo and
you have to control the mask nothing happens after you click the grey point. It took 30 sec to show the mask. If you
click the other grey point it took 15 sec until the red mask from the first point vanished and another 15 sec until the second
mask shows up. There have been times when the edit functions worked in real time so you saw what you were doing.
- it the same behaviour for mostly all edit functions.
My machince is an iMac i5 27" with 8Gb ram. Local disk is used, all points regarding performance have been checked so far.
Catalogue optimized, preview database deleted etc. So I think that machine should be capable to handle LR3. I mean no
other software produces this mass on my computer.
It's really a pitty because LR3 was on the right way regarding the development module together with the Nikon camera profiles v2
which produced close results no capture nx2.

Oh, Come on, stop this bashing. First of I assume you mean crap, not crab, the delicious seafood. And second: I have been a LR user for many years, it is a brilliant program getting more brilliant with every version and as a photographer who really focuses on an efficient workflow, I couldn't live without it anymore.
Of course there are bugs. Show me the software that hasn't any, although many problems I read in this forum come from inexperience.
As an everyday tool it is very usable and indispensable for any serious production environment.

  • Should I reinstall Lightroom and if so, how do I not lose my work?

I have Windows 8 and Lightroom 5.7 installed on my desktop.  Every since I did the last update, Lightroom has been acting really weird. I often get a "Lightroom Not Responding"  message, or it will take for ever to do something like move from library to develop module.  I have been going through and deleting files and have moved folders with in Lightroom, but I would think that should not be an issue. This has been going on for about a month now after the last update.  Yesterday I moved my pictures from my desktop to an external drive through lightroom and then did a catalog backup..  Later in the day after a photo shoot, I tried to import pictures, to that external drive and it just stopped in the middle of the process.  I checked to see if the pictures were in the designated folder and they were.  So I closed Lightroom and opened it again 6 pictures had a white box with lines through them taking up the bottom quarter of the picture.  If I look at these pictures through another program, they appear fine.  Should I reinstall Lightroom? If so, how do I save my work?  Could my catalog (which I have backed up) be corrupt?
I have more work to be done, but I don't want to proceed if I am working with an unstable program.

Uninstalling LR does not delete the catalog which is in an entirely different place, not the Programs folder. I am not saying that removing and reinstalling LR will solve your problem, but you don't need to worry about losing your work. If you reinstall, the first time you launch LR it may create a new empty catalog. Just use File/Open Recent to open your old catalog.

  • Is it ok to leave my old photos in Aperature and start with new photos in Lightroom?  MacPro with 2 x 2.26 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor, 6 GB memory, 1 TB harddrive.

Is it ok to leave my old photos in Aperature and start with new photos in Lightroom?  MacPro with 2 x 2.26 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor, 6 GB memory, 1 TB harddrive?
Or should I transfer them to Lightroom?

That's really a personal preference. Support for Aperture is coming to an
end and you may find yourself unable to get to theses photos in the future
in the case of a HDD crash if you can't get the software to reinstall.
Faced with that prospect, I would probably put it on my list of things to
do when I am feeling really bored and looking for something to amuse myself
with. You can export your Aperture photos in their original format to a
folder on your desktop and then import them into Lightroom. Use the copy
option on the import to save the photos in a new folder within your
    Lightroom catalog.

  • Collection import from Lightroom

    Good evening
I am a new user to Premiere Elements 9, but I've been using Adobe Lightroom for a long time for indexing and sorting photos (and vidéos since ver 3).
I have created a collection of photos/videos in Lightroom from files located in different folders, and I would like to import it to create a DVD in premier. The problem is that drag'n drop does not work, and catalog file format seem to be not compatible between Lightroom (lrcat) and Premier (xml ?).
Does anyone have an idea to solve with efficiency ? I could of course export all the files from the collection in Lightroom to a temporary folder, and import this folde in premiere, but this would be time and space consumming...
    Thanks,
    Erwann

You might already know, but Lightroom's .lrcat is really just a complete relational database system housed within a single file. And Premiere's project files are .xml, so yes, the file formats are completely incompatible.
I don't know of any automated way to get a collection into Premiere. I think you will have to do an export.
I only have LR 2, so I'm not sure how the videos would work as far as exporting, but the pictures should be relatively straightforward. You can just select the entire collection and export them to a temp folder as JPG, PSD, TIF, or DNG. I'm sure Steve or others could chime in on the preferred format but I would guess PSD or JPG.
Then just suck that temp folder into Premiere.
Also, as you may or may not know, large-pixel images do not work well in Premiere, so in your LR export step be sure to limit the exported images to specific pixel sizes. If you plan on doing this more than once, you could save the export settings as a preset.

  • Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS 5

Hello, I bought a new camera Canon 6D. I use Photoshop CS5 extended version and Lightroom 3.6. It won't let me open the Raw images in either program. Can you please help me. Thank you. Jessica

That camera requires at least Lightroom 4.3 or Camera Raw 7.3. Camera Raw 7.3 is only compatible with Photoshop CS6. So your choice is to at least upgrade your Lightroom, which will work with your version of Photoshop. Or the other choice is to use the DNG converter to create DNG copies of your raw files. But having Lightroom 3.5 is really limiting your capabilities when compared with what is available today. The choice, however, is yours.

  • How do you edit Olympus E-600 RAW file so it opens in Lightroom?

I have tried using '0xED' program to edit the file and change the name to E-620. I have tried altering the camera profile to rename it to E-620 but that also does not work. I know there is a workaround for editing the files on a Windows computer but does anyone know how to do it on a Mac?
    Thanks
    Stu

It's not as simple as that. The E-620 profile in Lightroom will not open E-600 files because it cannot see that it is a E-620 file. The RAW files other than that are identical. So that is why they need to be edited so Lightroom thinks they are really E-620 files or change the camera profile so it says E-600 and can therefore open up the RAW file.
Sorry I have just noticed I said 620 in the title and not 600! I have now changed that.

  • In installed CC then photoshop and lightroom, after 2 months it disappeared from my computer, won't reinstall

I got the student and teacher edition 12 month subscription, paying the subscription monthly in November 2014. I downloaded the CC app, then photoshop and then lightroom. It worked really well for a couple of months. I last used it in January. Then today I go to use it and it is not on my computer. I didn't wipe it, haven't changed anything on the computer but it has completely vanished. So, I go to Adobe to download it again, but now it tells me it can't because it isn't compatible with other adobe programs. What am I supposed to do?

  • Lightroom 5 slow with heavily edited images

    Hi guys!
Lightroom 5 (64bit) gets really slow on my PC when the file I'm currently working on is already somewhat heavily edited. For example: A file with ~15 spot removal tool sites will slow down Lightroom to a great extent if I try to edit it further. This means that the cursor starts jumping around on the picture and applying changes I made to anything (e.g. highlights) takes much more time.
Here are some specs of my system:
    OS: Windows 8 professional 64bit
    CPU: i7-3770
    RAM: 16 GB
    GPU: Radeon HD 7970 GHz
    Camera: Nikon D600 (24Mp)
    File size: ~30 MB
The catalog is on a SSD and the pictures are on a HDD
Please let me know if you need more information. One thing I noticed is that Lightroom never uses more than 1.5GB RAM. Is this normal?

The major conflict seems to be between the spot removal tool and lens corrections. Yes, it worked fine in LR4, but remember that the spot removal tool has been redeveloped for LR5 and maybe some further tuning is needed. In the meantime, either leave lens corrections until after any spot removal work, or (if you like to apply lens corrections early in the edit workflow) simply switch off the lens corrections panel (using the small panel switch) when doing the spot removal, then turn it back on again. Not a permanent solution, but a very simple workaround.

  • HELP! Need to restore corrupt file/recover deleted file from LIGHTROOM Catalog

    Hi,
I recently edited a wedding I finished and sent to her via WeTransfer.  It showed that she opened the file, so I deleted it off of my computer.  A few days later she said she couldn't open the file because it was corrupt (at this point I couldn't resend because I had deleted it as stated).
She sent it back to me to see if I could try opening -- but every time I try to open in Lightroom it reads:
    Unexpected Error Opening Catalog
The Catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error.
Can ANYONE help me recover this file?? I've also tried to run a Data Recovery software to retrieve it from the trash, but it won't recognize .lrcat files (it brought up all of the .jpegs, photoshop, .tiff files etc -- but no lightroom catalogs.
I REALLY really really don't want to have to re-edit 1000 photos again.
Thanks so much in advance for any advice xo

I've attached the two messages I got :
Uh, yeah - it's not an archive and so you don't want to try and expand it as if it was one.
I'm not sure which SQLite app you are using. I think SQLite Spy is Windows-only, but for Mac, maybe:

Once you get a real SQLite app, then open the .lrcat file with it.

  • Batch Rename in Lightroom

    Hello
I know that I am being really obtuse, but batch renaming a set of files really eludes me.
My Canon 5D2 has now taken over 20000 images, so I want to place a number before the present file number.
eg _MG_2459.CR2 to _MG_022459.CR2. This is easily done in Bridge, but I cannot workout how to do such a simple thing in Lightroom.
It is really a find and replace.

  • Is Lightroom a useful addition to Elements 13?

I've just upgraded from PSE10 to 13 - very happy with my purchase so far.  One of the next tasks on my agenda is to scan a load of old photos and 35mm slides.  Would Lightroom be a useful addition to PSE13 for it's batch editing capabilities, whilst keeping PSE for slightly more intricate editing of individual photos?

At work a couple of years ago, I scanned thousands of slides. I didn't use Lightroom as my scanning software, but I did use Lightroom to make all the corrections to them. It was fast and smooth.
But since you haven't used Lightroom previously (I assume) you had better understand how Lightroom works. All the adjustments you make in Lightroom are stored in the catalog and not applied directly to the master images unless you force that to happen. In its default state, Lightroom leaves the images untouched. You export copies from Lightroom to share with others. I'm not telling you this to frighten you from using Lightroom.. I really appreciated having Lightroom for the project that I did. Just make sure you understand Lightroom before you proceed too far into the project.

  • How do you import photos from a Canon EOS 60d into Lightroom without distortion of photos?

Is there a plug in needed or how does one get the photos from Canon EOS camera into Lightroom?  My come through looking distorted and noisy.

    Ok, full story...
I have a Canon EOS 60D and was editing in DPP software that came with the camera.
I wanted more editing options so I bought Lightroom.
All of a sudden photos that look good at home were being sent to printer and I was being told they couldn't print them at all. If I take the exact same photo, import it into the DPP software and edit it to look good on my computer and send it to the same printer they print it with no issues.
I was selling on Deposit Photos some, now they won't even accept my photos the quality is so bad. But again, same photo edited in DPP they accept again.
THere are two issues I am having, the one going to the printer or deposit photos is they leave my computer looking bright and good to me and get to the other site so dark you can't see the photo at all.
The biggest issue I have been noticing is if I shoot with 200, 320 or 400 ISO, they look very fuzzy and I thought pixelated at first.  After reading forums with other Canon users having the same issue, people are saying it isn't true pixelation.  That the real problem is Lightroom not being able to intrepret the data so they look like there is a lot of noise and I have a bad picture.
Before reading forums, I had also emailed Canon to see if there was an issue with my camera.  This was Canon's reply.... If you are recording RAW image files, are you using the Canon software to convert them to jpg or a third party program?  Sometimes programs like Lightroom and Photoshop do not interpret the files correctly and the result could be noise or a colorshift.  Please make sure that you are using the latest version of the RAW plugin for which ever software application you are using, or try using the Digital Photo Professional software included on the EOS Solution disk.
I use Lightroom 4 and it has been updated regularly to the latest updates as they come out.
I shoot in RAW only and never shoot above 400 ISO, usually 160-320 range.
I have taken the same photos at 400 ISO and opened them in the DPP software and there is no noise at all, nice and clear.  I am only having this issue when I put them into Lightroom.
I would really prefer to edit in LIghtroom as you have a lot more creative options there but there has to be something I need to do that they work in Lightroom as they do in DPP.  I have also used NERO in the past with no issues.  The printer person I send to is accepting them in Photoshop.
Do I need to purchase some sort of plugin to have them work in Lightroom? Distortion was a bad choice of word, more fuzzy noise look then true distortion, sorry about that confusion.
    Thanks
    Ann

  • Metadata Elements 5 and Lightroom 1.3.1

The EXIF list when I do a "Complete Properties View" in Elements 5
Organizer on an image contains much more information than the same list in
    Lightroom.
In particular, I am interested in being able to view the Digital Zoom Ratio
(EXIF tag 0xa404 DigitalZoomRatio rational64u ExifIFD). Since it is
available in Elements I am surprised it is not available in Lightroom.
Can Lightroom be configured so as to be able to see at least that tag?
    Thanks.
    Mike

As a follow up, I did find a freeware program Opanda IEXIF2 to examine
EXIF, GPS, and IPTC in jpegs. It gives a pretty complete list. However, it
is much less than shown in the metadata list in Lightroom. I would really
like to be able to view it from Lightroom. Any fixes or plugins that would
    help?
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Deleting photos in Lightroom

I know this must sound very dumb, but as a newbiee in Lightroom I am going a bit crazy here.
When I flagged photos and delete them in Lightroom, they don't really get deleted, just excluded from the lightroom browser.
How can I delete them for reals, as in GONE from the computer all together?
    Thanks

    Thanks Damian.
Ok, I am not in a "collection" and still that option "delete vs remove" doesn't ALWAYS present itself. It is pretty random. I believe I have done the same procedure, flag, show flagged, select all, delete and sometimes the option comes, sometimes not. Even so, the original files (copied when I imported into lightroom, so the original copies) are still sitting on my HD taking up space. How can they be deleted as I "delete" them from lightroom (again, I know it is obvious, choosing "delete" over remove but sometimed I did and they did NOT get deleted. And again, sometimes the option is not even presented ("delete vs remove"). I even used "control delete (I am on a Mac).
After "deleting" hundreds os images (I thought I had) I went back to every single keyword category I had to find all my flagged files there again! I couldn't believe it. So selected them all once again, "deleted" (by pressing delete key. no option was offered me). Sure enough, the flagged files are now gone from the LR browser but STILL sitting on my HD. So now I can't even get to them via LR browser again if someone can tell me how to REALLY delete them? As in, the flagged files don't show up as I deleted them many times (going back, repeating the procedure) and they now seem to be gone (from the browser,m but again sitting on my damm HD).
How do I get to them again in LR (flagged ones) and deleted them from the HD forever?
This seems so simple yet so complicated?
    Am I completely crazy?
Thanks a LOT for any help with this... It is absolutely baffling me.
