Lightroom 3.4.1 on Windows 8?

Anyone tried Lightroom 3.4.1 on Windows 8 Developer Preview version? I tried and it installed. But when I open, it opens and immediately crashes.

I have been running LR 4 on Windows 8 CP x64 on two systems and have been very pleased. Memory management is improved in Windows 8 and it transfers into good LR 4 performance. Most tasks run at the same speed as in Windows 7, but there seems to be less of a hit on system resources.  After PS CS5 initially loads, I have found that subsequently choosing edit in Photoshop is actually more responsive - walked away for a few minutes while doing a test panorama of five D7000 nef mages and it was finished when I came back.  Imports and standard rendering on my i5/8GB RAM laptop fly.  The other machine is a little HP DM1Z laptop for travel (with an AMD Fusion processor).  Imports are again fast but standard rendering is a bit slow.  Accessing files of my network is somewhat slow but that has nothing to do with LR 4.  Windows 8 is clearly not yet optimized on that front.  The new task manager also means you can see a lot more information with respect to what LR 4 is using and what impact it is having on the rest of the system. BTW, it really does not take long to get accustomed to the Metro Start Screen and there are a lot of power features built in to the system.  They do need to make shut down more obvious, and a primer on the new keyboard and mouse functionality would help, but it is still just the initial (almost) feature complete beta.  There is, of course, the standard disclaimer that Windows 8 is a beta and mileage may vary with different hardware but so far the results have been very positive.

  • Lightroom 4.4 crashed on Windows 7 Laptop, lost catalog info, won't import half my images.

Lightroom 4.4 crashed on Windows 7 Laptop today, lost catalog info, won't import half my images.
Not only is LR messed up, it deleted my day's shooting. Can't believe that.
Now it won't import (i.e. re-import) half my files.
Imported half, but had errors importing rest.
    Corrupt catalog?
When I try to import the folders, it recognizes that they are in the catalog (I have "don't import duplicates" turned on).
After running through all the folders, it says, "Nothing to Import."
    Any help?
    Best,
    Peter

    Thanks dj_paige.
I installed a plugin, coincidence makes me thinks this might have cause a LR4.4 crash.
After rebooting my windows 7 laptop, LR had lost record of half my directories on the external drive, as seen in Library Module.
In Windows Explorer, the folders and images are still there.
I tried recovering the lost folder references in LR by doing an import on the external hard drive again.
It took about a half hour to run.
There was a report screen at the end of the process that said that LR was unable to import something like 1500 images.
I did not save the report screen. Maybe it is part of a log file somewhere to give you what it exactly said?
I do not profess to understand how catalogues work under the covers.
I only use one catalog at this point.
My guess is at this point I should de-commission the catalog (whatever it takes to do that - delete it, etc.) and just do a new, fresh import on my images.
I don't feel I lose anthing this way - I can't see where I would lose anything important. About 5-10% of the RAW images were processed and exported to jpg, just for web use for casual viewing. The jpg's are all still on the external hard drive.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Peter

  • Does Lightroom work well with hiDPI Windows 8.1 touchscreen ultrabooks?

    Hi all,
My old laptop is on the fritz, shopping for a new one.
Apart from the Web, the application I use the most is Lightroom.
I've been interested in the nice new ultrabooks, but I'm wondering: does Lightroom work well with hiDPI Windows 8.1 touchscreen ultrabooks?
Is hiDPI advantageous, or actually annoying?
What can you actually use touch for in Lightroom, and does it improve your workflow?
    Thanks kindly!

I am not 100% sure whether lightroom supports HiDPI on windows but on Mac OS X it is absolutely fantastic (I use a retina MBP). So I would see if you can try it out somewhere. My guess is that Lightroom supports it on Windows too and then I can highly recommend it.
No clue if touch works well or not for Lightroom. My guess is not as almost always using touch in applications that were not designed for it is very kludgey.

  • Lightroom no longer starts on Windows 8.1 PC

Creative cloud user on Win8.1 PC.
Photoshop, AE, PP and Audition all work great on the same PC.
Lightroom pre 5.4 ran just fine. Since 5.4, it hangs when it starts. The user interface loads, but the splash screen never goes away, and Windows eventually reports it as not responding.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times, this week with 5.7, but still no go.
The only thing I know of that is different from the default is that I have installed the ProLost Lightroom Presets previously. I didn't suspect them to be the problem, but I have removed them, and that did not change the result - I am still unable to start Lightroom, unfortunately.
Any ideas how to get past this? Is there a way to produce a log file that tells us why Lightroom does not start up? Anything else I can do?
I would like to get moving on this to process some holiday photos before a new holiday season arrives, so any help would be highly appreciated!
    Thanks and best regards,

  • Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC never start in Windows 10 Tech Preiew

Currently my main machine is runnng Windows 1o Tech Preview Build 10061.
The product do not start literaly. How I can fixed this? The version 5.6 work fine, but i unistalled
    Regards

The first error has nothing to do with Photoshop - that's some .NET application.
The second error is most likely connected to a third party plugin or driver.
And you're running Photoshop CC (14.x) instead of the current Photoshop CC 2014 (15.x).

  • Issues with lightroom 5.3 update in windows 7 HP SP1

After downloading and installing the 5.3 update I could open lightroom and it seemed to work fine. But when I tried to open a cr2 file in explorer no known program was found. I instructed to use lightroom now found in the folder lightroom 5.3, but instead of opening lightroom the system tried to use adobe reader, which of course didn't work. Yet, now adobe reader was connected with the cr2 extension. I tried to restore by using 'open with'  or by using the specific windows settings page, but it stayed hooked to the reader instead. Lastly, I ran a system restore and tride to reinstall the update, but that one got stuck when trying to unpack. I cancelled the installation and now it is a mess. What should I do?

Thanks Keith for this bit of education to LR beginner.
Removed all files, but reinstallation got stuck again with error 1714 'cannot remove old version'. Needed to fix it with microsoft fixit tool http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall.
After that everythng was running at last.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Raw File from Bridge, Lightroom, CS5 not show on Window 8.1 OS

I recently bought a new computer with Window-8.1 OS.  Then I loaded CS5, Bridge & Lightroom on.
However, non of the program reads raw file.  Please advise what to do.  Thank you.
    James

If photoshop, bridge or lightroom are old enough, it may not support your camera. A search on adobe's web site will give you a list a supported cameras for that version of software.
If they are not supported, you have basically 2 options
    1)Upgrade your software
2)download the free dng converter and convert your raw files to dng which can be opened by photoshop, camera raw, or lightroom.
Another possiblity is the file it self is corrupted. Hopefully that is not the case.

  • My laptop meets minimum display resolution for Lightroom 5 but bottom of windows display off-screen

I installed Lightroom 5.3 on my older Lenovo laptop with 1280x768 native screen resolution.  When I open Lightroom and try to set up preferences, the lower part of the preferences window is displayed off the bottom of the screen and I am unable to move it up to make changes.  The same thing happened when it asked me to download the update to 5.5; I could not get to the bottom of the window to say yes.
The Lightroom 5 specs say the minimum display resolution required to use Lightroom 5 is 1024 x 768 display.  My laptop exceeds that.
    I am using Windows 7 64bit and LR 5 64bit.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Don

Any chance you have set display scaling to Larger - 150% in Windows 7 display settings?  It is possible that that is affecting the display size of LR.

  • Been using Lightroom 5.6 for weeks, no issues.  Went to open a catalogue today, it would not open... message assertion failure. Followed Adobe's posted fix... still cannot open catalogue or Lightroom at all. Running Windows 7. Help!

I have been using Lightroom 5.6 for weeks. Today I went to open a catalog and I got the message "assertion failure". I have gone through Adobe's posted fix for this, the Pictures folder is linked to My Pictures folder. Still no luck, in fact Light room will not open at all. I get the name of the catalog, I tried to open earlier, across my screen and the message "assertion failure". I am running Windows 7. Does anyone know of a fix for this??
