Lightroom 3.4 LR 3.4 and CS3 - Raw Converter 6.4 ?

Just upgraded to LR 3.4 and I use Photoshop CS3 - ( Canon 5D MII )  it appears that I need Raw Converter 6.4 , which I do not believe is available for CS3  -
Can I get this combination of LR 3.4 and CS3 to work ?  Is there a good work around without going to DNG ?
Thanks,  Dan

Lightroom will have to provide the older Photoshop a TIF or PSD when you use Edit in Photoshop, because, as you say, Photoshop CS3 cannot use Camera RAW 4.x to open the RAW files natively for a camera model released after CS3 became obsolete.
Going DNG won't help because the older ACR 4.x wouldn't be able to read and perform all the newer LR 3.4 adjustments.
What does LR 3.4 do when you choose Edit In Photoshop for one of your images?  Does it complain saying that ACR is too old, or does LR create a TIF or PSD and open it in PS?  If it just complains, then copy the photoshop.exe to photoshopx.exe and define that new photoshopx.exe as a third-party editor and you should be able to get a PDF or TIF out of LR which will be opened in Photoshop.

  • I can't open Sony NEX-5 raw files with PS-CS6 and latest raw converter plug-in 7.1.

When I try to open raw files from Sony NEX-5 instead of going to PhotoShop like all my NEF files, they go to another software suite that I have (On-One).  I am running MAC OS 10.7.5 with latest PS-CS6 and latest raw converter plug-in 7.1.  On-One seems to hi-jack these Sony raw files and won't give me the opportunity for the adjustments that I get with the Adobe Raw File converter.  Any help??

    Great news!

  • LR1 undoes CS2 and CS3 Raw Changes

I imported a full wedding of already adjusted CR2 files into LR1. On random images it undoes my RAW adjustments (from CS2 and CS3) and sets them back to default. It still does show the little icon that says something was changed but when opened the settings are default...

  • Lightroom Photoshop and Camera Raw Converter

    Hi,
I use Adobe creativ Cloud with Lightroom 5 and PS CC CS6. And I installed Topaz Adjust as a Plugin. On my Computer is Windows 8.1, 64 Bit installed,
I tryd to open a Photo *.CR2 in order to develop it with the Camera Raw Converter from PS CS6, but the converter does not start, it opens only PS CS6
Can any body help me with this Problem?
    Thanks a lot,
    Trusty

The support for that camera was added in the very latest release of Lightroom, version 5.7.1. Having downloaded Camera Raw 8.7.1 will have no effect on Lightroom because Lightroom doesn't use the Camera Raw plug-in. You need to make sure you have updated Lightroom to the very latest release in order to have support for that camera.

  • CS3 RAW converter

Hi there. Please can someone assist me. I had CS3 and RAW 4.6 loaded onto my computer. I have now got a new computer and have manged to install the CS3 but the RAW converter will not load and I keep getting an error message saying that my request cannot be completed as it is the wrong document. At present I am therefore unable to open my CR2 files (I use the Canon 450D camera).
Please can someone advise as to how I can open my RAW files with which RAW converter.
    Thanks Natalie

    Alan,
You are confused too.    I did NOT send this to you.  Neither am I sending you this response.
You must have subscribed to the thread or to the whole forum, so the forum will now send you an email every darn time anyone replies or posts, until you yourself stop the email notifications you have subscribed too.
    Read my post again:

…but I have to clarify that I did not send you an email.  I used the forum's web interface to reply to your post with my web browser, as the forum was designed to be accessed.
There are at least two distinct disadvantages to using email to access the forum:
1.— You will never see any edits others make to their posts, as edits are never broadcast; and
2.— If you try to attach an image to an email, it will simply disappear into cyberspace and no one will ever see it.
I never use emails to access the forums or to reply to posts, EVER!  These forums are designed to be accessed primarily through their public, open web interface.

  • After having installed Mavericks I have problems with PSCS5 and the RAW converter. The glider for Exposure goes back to zero, when I use the fill in glider.

When I use PSCS5 after having upgraded to Mavericks I have problems when I use the RAW converter. The glider for  exposure goes back to sero, hven I use the glider for fill in light, that means that my PSCS5 program not can be used. What do I do?

Single click on the Home button. Then double click on the Home button. In the recently used row, touch and hold the Contact app till they start to wiggle and then tap the minus sing by the contacts app.
Also make sure the Contact program on your computer is closed.

  • Colors of RAW vs JPG in Lightroom and CS3

    I am confused by this.
When shooting RAW +JPG on my Canon 350D, the RAW and JPG have different color qualities. The RAW is more yellow, or maybe warmer. The JPG more blue or cooler.
I think this is odd. And it is consistent in Lightroom AND CS3 and yet in Irfanview and Canon Digital Photo Professional they they are identical. Totally.
Why would this be? And which is "right" in Lightroom? The RAW? It looks the better of the two, but hard to compare across programs. But why the difference and why not in all programs, just ADOBE?
    Thanks.
    ~Bob

DPP uses the in camera settings as its starting point to view RAW files, so these files will appear identical to any jpegs produced at the same time. The in camera settings are attached to the RAW file and DPP reads this information when opening or loading a RAW file for the first time.
Lightroom does not have access to this information and so it has its own starting point that it uses when you open a RAW file, thus the RAW file will look different than the JPEG and different to the RAW file opened in DPP (while the JPEG and RAW file in DPP will look the same). Most other RAW programs do not have access to this information (Capture 1, Bibble etc) and they also will have a starting point that is different to DPP. One of the significant advantages of Lightroom over DPP is that you can create your own profiles so you can tailor your "starting point" to suit your preferences and style whereas with DPP you always start where the Canon guy says you should be.
There are a few programs that use the Canon SDK or Canon RAW viewer utility in windows to display images (Breeze Browser comes to mind). Irfranview may be one of these which is why RAW files viewed here may look te same as DPP or the JPEG.
As to which is right. Neither, none or all of them. Right or wrong is purely subjective and based on which you prefer. If you never make any changes to the RAW file you may as well just shoot jpegs and that will be right for you. But then you loose thae ability to influence the look of your files proior to the file creation which is why we shoot RAW in the first place.
    Hope this helps

  • Using vista 64 bit with current versions of lightroom and CS3

Since the new versions of lightroom and photoshop are going to run on 64 bit I was thinking of upgrading to vista 64 bit. Will the present versions of lightroom and CS3 function in the vista 64 bit environment
    thanks
    Roger Lieberman

I use both LR & CS3 on both XP 64 and Vist 64. They wor just fine. In fact you get access to more RAM. Research your printer drivers etc though. That's an issue.

  • Lightroom and CS3 extended

I have both Lightroom and CS3 installed in the default fashion in XP. In Lightroom>Edit >Pref> External Editor, the program reports that Photoshop is not found and in the Photo Menu of LR the option to edit in Photoshop is greyed out. Help me undo this, please.
    Herb

Have you double checked the assigned path to CS3 as the external editor for LR?
Does PS work without any hitches with Bridge?. Does double clicking an image in Bridge open camera Raw?. Sometimes the installation of CS3 is faulty. One sign is the Camera Raw test. Also, Bridge will have no Camera Raw prefs, in that case.
Do you have CS2 on as well. If you uninstalled it, did you clean the registry before installing CS3?
Which did you put on first. LR or CS3? Uninstall both, clean the registry, and reverse the order of installation. That may fix it.
    Good Luck.

  • Lightroom and CS3 Simultaneously - How much memory?

I've been trying to use Lightroom's image management features, but need to finish the "keepers" in CS3. The problem is my computer only has 2G of RAM, and both Lightroom and CS3 are giant memory hogs. Has anyone been able to successfully run both programs at the same time (with reasonably complicated PS files consisting of a dozen layers or so) ?
If so, how much memory does it take? 4G 8G?
    Thanks,
    --Michael

The wording of your question seems to suggest that your setup has issues with running Lr and Ps simultaneously. Disk thrashing? Memory swapping? Slow performance? What is your machine configuration?
I have an Intel Dual 2 Core machine with 2Gb RAM and routinely run Lr (on Canon 20D raw files), Ps CS3 beta, Bridge, email client, and Firefox web client all at the same time with little issue.
And have you consulted Adobe's knowledge base for performance tips?

  • Conflict of lightroom 2 and cs3?

    Please bear with me.
My situation is that I'm purchasing a new camera that's only supported with raw5 and I'd prefer to stay with cs3. I also have lightroom 1.3.
As I see it, my choices are to go to cs4 (rather not) or use dng converter and use cs3 or go to lightroom 2.
My question is that since lightroom 2 uses raw 5x and cs3 4x, will I cause a mess in my computer? I did install the trial cs4 and found that it altered cs3 on me. I was told this wouldn't happen but there are some common files (the raw being one of them) and I actually had to wipe my system and reinstall everything.
So I'd appreciate any input as to whether anyone out there knows that these two can play nice together. Are their raws shared or in separate locations where they'll never fight?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the reply.
I don't know why I had a problem with the CS4 trial. The install must not have been smooth as the colour pallet and raw interface window in CS3 changed. I've never had one Adobe product "interfere" with another. It was odd.
Anyway, my main problem here is that my new Canon 5dII needs raw 5x. Obviously this means updating to Lightroom 2x, Photoshop CS4 or converting my cr2 files to DNG.
So I'm assuming you're telling me that if I were to install Lightroom 2x, that the raw plugin will not worm it's way into CS3 and the other way around? My experience with CS3,CS4 was an anomaly?

  • Lightroom 2.2 and CS3 Panorama/Merge (Windows)

Prior to a system crash, merge/panoramas worked flawlessly for me on a Windows Vista system. At the time, both LR and CS3 were on the same drives.
Since the crash, I have the two programs on different drives and other than basic edits, all other options (pano/HDR, etc) are grayed out in LR. Does LR require CS3 to be on the same drive?
    Thanks,
    David

    FWIW:
Note long post, but maybe your fix:
    1. Check to make sure you have sufficient scratch disk space.
    2. I just upgraded to LR 2.2, and still have PS CS3 (both on the same drive). LR gave me a warning about camera raw mismatch (5.6 for LR 2.2 and 4.7 for CS3 -the last one to support CS3). I had the option to continue, and doing so, the application stopped indicating that the images could not be stitched as it could not find any matches. Which was not so as had I done the very same thing prior to the update.
So, I opted to go back to LR 2.1, and discovered that Adobe listed the 2.1 update, but gave me the 2.2 download instead. So I had to get the file from someone else.
After downgrading, I then had to replace PS CS3's camera raw with 4.5 (The one that worked for me). Even though LR 2.1 was 4.6, and PS was now 4.5, I ignored the warning box and opened the files anyway. The merge went flawlessly.
I then went into update preferences in PS and turned off automatic updates.
Obviously upgrading to CS4 would avoid all this, but that's another story.

  • Lightroom and new Raw Converters

In Photoshop we will get about each 3 months new Raw-/DNG-converters.
This was in CS, CS2 and I think it will be also in CS3.
Does anyone know, how to integrate new raw-converters in Lightroom?
Will we get parallel with raw Converter 4.0 / 4.1 / 4.2 also new versions of lightroom (1.1, 1.2, ...)?

LR has a method to get new-camera support and it will, so don't worry.

  • What can Lightroom do for me that Photoshop and Bridge can't?

I've been using Creative Suite Design Pro since CS2 (now on CS4).  Lately I've been getting more into photography and have started hearing and reading about Lightroom.  Does Lightroom have features that Photoshop Extended and Bridge in CS don't?  Can it do things for me that I can't already do in CS?  Bottom line - what makes it worth the purchase price?             Thanks, Mary

If you are comparing Lightroom to Photoshop CS specifically, the biggest difference you are going to see is the Lightroom capabilities compared to what Camera Raw in Photoshop CS will do.  Lightroom has all the features of the latest Camera Raw.  As far as Photoshop itself is concerned, I haven't used CS4, but the big feature that I saw an improved in CS3 was the Photoemerge feature.  It works so much better, and I understand it is even better in CS4.  I'm sure there are many other improvements in the latest version of Photoshop, but I have decided to wait for the next version before I upgrade.

  • Hasselblad 3FR and camera RAW/Lightroom

I use CS3 and Lightroom for all of my work (Canon Raw) now very happily. Having recently purchased a Hasselblad HD3-31 it would make my day if I could directly import the 3FR files into Lightroom or Camera Raw. I did check before buying and was fully aware that this format was not supported by CR or Lightroom and that there is a mechanism to convert the 3FR files into DNG and then import them into Lightroom. This is however a slow and cumbersome process and it would be far better if I could bring the files straight into Lightroom.
Does anybody know if Adobe are intending to support this format or is there a third party plugin available. It would be good to hear if anyone else shares this problem and if so what they are doing about it.

I have now had an update from Hasselblad confirming that they won't share their code and that they feel they have something special in respect of the colour algorithms. Having used both Flexcolour (slow and prone to crashes) and their DNG converter then CR 4.1 I know which I prefer - (hint it comes from Adobe). They have also confirmed that their proprietory lens correction algorithms are not implemented through the DNG conversion. Personally I think that they have made a very poor strategic decision here and that their attempt to buck the marke will fail.
To answer LRK's point I use Canon 1DsMkII's as my normal system but for certain applications the Haselbald wins hands down. If you compare an image taken on the 1Ds and on HD3 side by side the Hassdelblad image is more detailed, less "jaggy", and has smoother colour transition from pixel to pixel. We purchased this system for food photography and it does this superbly.
Yes their attitude is annoying, no the software is not perfect, yes the equipment is superbly engineered but the image quality is A1. In England we say it's horse for courses.
