Lightroom 3.6 can't export to a directory on READYNAS

I have Lightroom 3.6.  I also have a lot of images.  So I got a READYNAS RNDU4000 disk array (RAID) with 4 disks each of 2 TB. My computer is running Windows XP Professional SP3.  It mounts the RAID array as a network drive just fine.  Now suppose I have some new images.  I make a new folder on the RAID array, lets say it is called "WildAnimalPark" and copy the images in there.   I start up Lightroom, and choose Import Files, and point it at WildAniamalPark, and it imports the images just fine, and lets me make adjustments.  (The Lightroom catalog is in my F drive, a hard drive on my computer.)  Now I want to export smaller jpegs suitable for web or e-mail.  So I go to File->Export.  I tell it to export the images to "Same folder as original photo", and check "Put in Subfolder" and name the subfolder "email".  Farther down I ask for the images to be scaled to 800 pixels on the long edge and to limit the file size to 125K.  (I doubt these details matter.)  When I click "export", it appears like it is going to work.  You can see the progress bar move across as it makes the files.   But then I get an dialog box that says, "Some export operations were not performed.  The file could not be written," followed by a list of off the files it should have written.  When I look it the original directory, I see that it has created the subfolder "email" (so it really can write to the RAID array), but it is empty.
This makes my RAID array essentially useless.  Does anyone have any idea what is wrong, or how I can work around this probelm?
I should add that it works perfectly if I put the directory on a local hard drive.
Thank you,
   --DMJ002

Everything works perfect on my system, which is XP Pro SP3 and ReadyNAS NV+ [X-RAID] and RAIDiator 4.1.6 [1.00a043].
I never touch the OS XP folder.file permissions.  And as I said yesterday, all I have is the FrontView permissions correct.  Whether I export to the ReadyNas subdirectory including update Catalogue or not, the subdirectory is created and the export file physically exists.
The only nag I have is after removing my (test) catalogue image and (test) catalogue folder, although the image is physically deleted the folder is left on my drive. I would call it an LR3 bug, but Adobe might think otherwise.  I know for a fact this does create problems if your try to create another subfolder with the same name at a later date. It happened to me a while back.  Hey, the light just turned on!   I reckon this is your route to check.  Even though T:\WindAnimalPark\email  folder does not exist in your catalogue at the start of this thread, was it exisiting physically ?  If yes, then this is probably the issue.  Delete \email folder from your disk firstly before making an export to it even if it is not showing in Catalogue.

I guess I really should get rid of the nasty habit of populating the desktop with zillions of trivial files ;)

  • Can you export a raw file photo with Lightroom adjustments attached?

Can you export a raw file photo from Lightroom with Lightroom adjustments attached in some way?  If not what is the equivalent?  There are some individuals I would like to send the full data of the raw file, but with the non-destructive Lightroom adjustments layered on top.
    --Gerry

You can select "Original" as the file type, in Export. This saves out a copy of the imported source file into the selected location, labelling the current adjustments onto that image. When this is sent to somebody and imported to LR / opened in ACR, these metadata will be found and used automatically, with the exact same outcome as within your own LR Catalog - provided the LR / ACR versions are sufficiently compatible, and provided camera and lens profiles applied to the image, are present in both contexts.
LR uses whatever method is normal when writing metadata, for each file type involved. So, if one imported file is a proprietary Raw file, LR will write an XMP file alongside. If another is capable of having metadata written into its file header, LR will do that instead.
One important difference between doing this, vs writing LR metadata out to your original imported file, and sending that: the Export Original method will work in the same way, just as successfully, for one or more Virtual Copy versions (duplicating physically as needed), as it will for the primary Master version - relating to a given imported file.

  • As with others I can't export from Lightroom 4 to Elements 10 or any of the Nik products except HDR

As with others I can't export from Lightroom 4 to Elements 10 or any of the Nik products except HDR Efex pro. Surely this has been fixed? If not it is appalling. It has been going on for too long in a program that has supposed to have some integrity

I am able edit pictures in PSE (Photoshop elements) 10 BUT i am unable to edit videos in PRE (premiere elements) 10. I will uninstall LR 4.1 RC1 and then install RC2 and use a backup of the catalog. Lets see if that works.

  • Can't export from Lightroom 4.3 -

Tried TIF,  JPG and web gallery.  I get the message, "file could not be written".  Just upgraded to 4.3 and I can't export any files.

    Hi there,
Have you been in touch with Adobe through a web chat?  That seems to be your best course of action.
I upgraded about a week ago and all the setting for export that I had been using on Lightroom 2 stayed the same and contnued to work.

  • Major problem: I can not export NEF files from Lightroom

This is just plain weird: I can't export NEF files from Lightroom 2. I can export any other file format, but not NEF. With Lightroom 1 this was no problem.
It makes no difference whether I choose the export command with my mouse, via the menu or with a key stroke - nothing happens.
    Lightroom version 2.0
    Camera Raw version 4.5.0.175
    Camera Nikon D3
    Photoshop CS3 version 10.0.1
    MacOsX version 10.5.4
I've called Adobe, and they simply don't know. I have reinstalled Lightroom 2 with no succes. Restarting, repairing permissions, nothing helps.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
    Marsel

Marsel, your language is confusing, First, you cannot 'export' NEFs to PS. You can send a copy there from within LR as a tif or psd.
Exporting per se takes place through the Library module under the Export function. When Nef's are exported by choosing 'original' in the export dialogue, the file is the 'original' NEF accompanied by an XMP. That Nef, if opened directly in PS from your file system should appear in the Camera Raw window, where you can make whatever new edits on it you want or change the original adjustments you made in LR. Then, once you open that file in PS from the Camera Raw window, any further work you do will be pixel editing. That work can then be saved in a number of formats, but not as a NEF.
Transferring files to PS from LR for editing is another matter. That sends a copy of the original NEF, including LR adjustments to PS as either a Tiff or a PSD (your choice via the dropdown). After you have edited that Tiff or PSD in PS and hit save, it will send a copy back to LR as a Tiff or PSD, which will appear next to the original nef.
These procedures work perfectly on both my windows 32 and 64 bit machines with LR2 and 2.1. with all my NEFs from several camera models.
When you say 'export' do you really mean sending a copy to PS or do you mean 'Export' as LR defines that term?

  • Trying to export RAW originals from Aperature 3 to LightRoom 4: I choose File Export Originals. I think then Pictures LR. But then I can't find files in LR library.Files seem stuck in Pictures as NEF

Trying to export RAW originals from Aperature 3 to LightRoom 4: I choose File>Export>Originals. Then Pictures>LR. But then I can't find files in LR library.Files seem stuck in Pictures as NEF and or DNG files. I know Im stuck on something dumb but I am stuck. Help?

You now need to import those files into Lightroom.
BTW, Lightroom uses a "referenced" system so your images will always be in the folders you download/copy them to. Lightroom is a database first and foremost, albeit with non-destructive editing capabilities (effectively Adobe Camera Raw).

  • How can I export the very cool Lightroom Map and link to the photos which show on the map?

How can I export the very cool Lightroom Map and link to the photos which show on the map?
I love the way Lightroom imported my .gpx files, automatically geocoded the photos, and show where I took them on the map.
Would love to export this lovely map and the photos which have been geocoded to the map.
Anyone know how to export this as an HTML file I can import into my web site.
I'm a Realtor in Berkeley, and integration of the elegant map and the photos.  It would be perfect way to show my clients where the homes are, and what they look like.
    Ira

You probably didn't get an answer because none exists within Lightroom.
You can perform a screen caputre of the Lightroom map, and use the resulting JPG/GIF of your screen, however there is no way to hyperlink the point on the map to your photos.
You might want to consider a non-Lightroom solution, such as uploading the photos to an Album on Flickr (or one of many other photo sharing web sites) and using the mapping capabilites there, which would be hyperlinked to your photos, see example below. You can use Lightroom to geotag the photos and then use Lightroom to upload to Flickr (or other web site) and then use the web site to create and display the map

  • Can I export photos from iphoto to lightroom?

can I export photos from iphoto to lightroom?

Not very knowledgeable on iPhoto are we?
The problem with iPhoto is it copies and or moves all your photo into it's database structure which is just a pain
It moves nothing. It can copy, or reference the images.
Even Picasa is better then iPhoto as it actually displays RAW images.
As Keith says, iPhoto work with every format that the OS supports - in other words all the same ones as Aperture.
iPhoto doesn't even support Adobe DNG format.
    Going for 0/3 ?
As for migrating from iPhoto to Lightroom:  Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.

  • I downloaded the free trial of Lightroom 5 and love it but I can't export the images to a folder.  Is this because it is a free trial?

I downloaded the free trial of Lightroom 5 and love it but I can't export the images to a folder.  Is this because it is a free trial?

Yes, but I don't know enough about iPhoto to understand the consequences of "imported them into iPhoto first". In any event, I do understand the needs of Lightroom, and if the photos have been moved or renamed or deleted (or if the folders that contain them have been moved or renamed or deleted) outside of Lightroom, then this will cause the Lightroom symptoms you describe. You need to reconnect the photos in Lightroom using the instructions I linked to. Either that or move the photos and folders back to where they used to be after you imported them into Lightroom. Nothing else will work.
In the future, please understand that your photos are never stored in Lightroom; they are stored on your hard disk somewhere and the very simple principle that you need to follow is that Lightroom needs to be informed of where the photos are at all times, using the methods in that link; or better yet by never moving or renaming or deleting the photos (and the folders that contain them) outside of Lightroom.
As an additional recommendation, the idea of using both iPhoto and Lightroom on the same photos is one that could cause problems, especially for beginners. If you are going to use one of these software, then don't use the other one.

  • You can not export: lightroom does not support the recording of discs on this computer

I can not export my images

Probably because you moved the files to a new location using Explorer or Finder and LR doesn't know where they are. Or the path to the files has changed (for instance, a usb drive has been plugged into a different port and now has a different identifying letter) and LR's old listing of the path is no longer valid. Or the drive is off-line. Right click on the question mark or exclamation mark icon, select "Find missing file (or folder)" and navigate to it.

  • How can I export a folder of images using the original file data?

I have edited my images within the "Develop" mode, but now need to export as jpg's using those settings (note: some are now B&W) and then I also need to process as jpg's using the original settings (color), so my client has all the original color files as well. My files were all shot in the Nikon RAW format, but I can't figure out how to export all the images without using the develop adjustments I have made to each file, including having changed many to B&W. Is there a way to do this? Note that I also don't want to lose all of my adjustments, so can't just reset them all, if that's even an option.

    2) Now I need to export all the images that have at least 2 stars
(around 1200), so I can give the client a folder of "originals." This
way, they can view images that didn't make the final edit (album) and
will also be able to print an image that I converted to B&W for
    their album in color.
First of all, I think making a backup of your directory (using Explorer or Finder or whatever) might be prudent before you start this little experiment!
So, all of your originals are in one folder, and ~1200 of those are 2-star and 384 are 5-star and have edits, correct?
What might be easiest (although not the most effecient) is to just click on the folder, then use the Library Filter to select everything that's 2 stars and above. This will select all the images that need exporting.
Then follow Jao's instructions for creating a new collection and removing the edits. Make SURE you create your new collection with VIRTUAL COPIES or you're going to wipe out everything you've done.
Your new collection should then  have virtual copies of everything 2-star and above, in their original unadulterated state. You can then export to JPG.
I think from now on I will export those files with 2 stars first, then narrow down the the final 384 and make adjustments
You could always create a collection of your "keepers" (2-stars and above). Then, for every image you want to edit, be sure to edit the virtual copy  and then put it in a subcollection under the main collection.
That way you kind of have a history of what you did, and you can export (or re-export) at any time. You don't even really need to keep the exported JPGs around, since you can always re-export.
Scott Kelby has a Lightroom book that illustrates this kind of workflow much better than I can. I highly recommend it.

  • My student has been using Lightroom 4 with Photoshop CS5 on her Mac for well over a year. Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images

    Any ideas?

My student has been using Lightroom 4 with Photoshop CS5 on her Mac for well over a year. Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images from Lightroom and choosing the "Render using Lightroom option when it popped up in the dialogue box. She has been doing this for over a year and a half without any problem. Today when she hit Command E no dialogue box appeared and the image just opened in Photoshop. I'm concerned that all of her Lightroom edits are not being rendered to Photoshop. Anyone have an idea as to how we can get the "Render using Lightroom" dialogue back?

  • My lightroom 5.5 will not export jpg or any other type of photo from the original RAW/NEF uncompressed file.  I get a message saying there is a Win 32 "file missing."  I unistalled 5.5 and reinstalled 5.4 and it works fine.  What to do?  Anyone else have

LRoom 5.5 does not export files under any circumstances.  I've chosen different locations; putting it in Lightroom NEF to JPG, putting it in another program, same conversion.
I get a "win 32 file missing.....".  I did not copy that message as it was not complete.  I uninstalled 5.5 and reinstalled 5.4 and it works just fine.  I didn't notice any difference to begin with.  Minor fixes for a few cameras and lenses.
Not being able to export is a SERIOUS problem and its not with my computer.  If it worked for the last 3 years, it must be with 5.5.
Any ideas?  Thanks for you input and help.  Also, how does one get Adobe to interact directly with its customers rather than having the blind leading the blind??
    Thanks

99.9% (estimated) of Lr5.5 users are not having the problem you are (can't export).
That said, for this type of problem, you may want to consider Adobe technical support instead of the forum - I prefer chatting..
If you want some advice from a fellow blind user: try renaming your preferences file (and all other Lr data files if preference file doesn't make a difference, try a new catalog if still no luck). If still the same error, consider posting the rest of that error message - it could be you just need another "win 32" file not being installed by Lr installer, but without knowing the filename, it's kinda hard to say.........
Preference and other file locations in Lightroom 5
PS - the logic: "no problem til Lr5.5, so Lr5.5 code at fault" sounds good on the surface, but is surprisingly flawed - perhaps you should consider yourself lucky the other versions worked despite the potential for problem, rather than considering yourself unlucky that you got nailed when upgrading to Lr5.5 .
