Lightroom 3.6 Crashes and Corrupts My Catalog
I just updated to Lightroom 3.6 on my MacBookPro running OS 10.6.8. The application now acts weird in many ways, including slow scrolling through library grid thumbnails, blank thumbnails, no way to link missing photos to the corresponding files, and worst of all, crashes that corrupt the catalog. Can anyone help? This seriously affects my photography business, and I can't work without a functioning Lightroom catalog.
Thanks.
This morning I installed Lightroom 3.6 on my MacBook Pro with 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 CPU and 4GB of RAM runnin OS 10.6.8 -- and it was unbelievably slow (beachballing while going between images in Library mode, etc.) and froze up twice in less than 10 minutes of use. Horrible! It seems to be even worse when opening in Develop mode.
I followed the link given in the thread above and downloaded LR 3.5 and installed it, which was a totally painless process, and (this might help the techs figure out what is wrong) it installed in FAR less time than 3.6. I did not have to delete 3.6 before downloading & installing 3.5, it just seems to have automatically overwritten/reverted to 3.5.
Cheers
Adam

I've tried reinstalling it. Didn't help. It crashed when I was exporting 111 photos, then I only did 20 at a time and it didn't crash, but it crashed 4 times while I was editing the session. What should I do?
I tested it, its fine...my whole system is fine. Lightroom is the only
program that acts like this. Otherwise my system is good to go.What else? -
How to fix Lightroom 5.6 from crashing when backing up catalog database (external AND local backup) - Mac 10.9.5
It starts to cue and within 3-4 seconds, the program just crashes hard. As stated, I tried it on local hard drive and external. Same result...
In the destination backup folder, it will copy over one folder, no images.
Thanks ahead of time.

4k Pro Res crop/resize causing crash and corrupt recovery save
Hello,
I am working on an edit of F55 XAVC 4k footage that has been turned into pro res 422 files for an offline edit.
The edit calls for a lot of split screen work, and when I resize or use the crop effect, put another layer underneath, and then try to move either layer forward or backward in the timeline, premiere always crashes. I could deal with this, but unfortunately premiere saves the project upon crashing, and when I open it again, it launches into the recovery file, which has the bug still present, which immediately causes premiere to crash.
Is there a way to turn off this recovery or auto save on crash feature? I just wish to open the file from the last point I manually saved it, but seem unable to do so.
Also, I have auto save set to save every three minutes but it does not save. Not sure why!
Any help appreciated.

Thanks Filouza,
Do you mean switch Project Settings in Renderer > Mercury Playback Engine from Open CL to CUDA?

Premiere Pro CC 7.2.1 Crashing and Corrupting on Mac
This started shortly after updating from 7.1, to 7.2, to 7.2.1 almost back to back. I cleaned out everything and re-installed, updated all CUDA drivers, and crashed through the forum without finding a specific cure for my problem. I use Digital Rebellion Crash Analyzer to tell me what is happening and this is what it said for the past 3 crashes.
1st Time.
User Interface Crash
Relevant Line = 1 com.adobe.UIFramework.framework 0x00000001048184ef UIF::TimeBarControlImpl::Enable(bool) + 79
2nd Time.
Relevant Line = 0 com.adobe.HandlerTimeline.framework 0x000000010bdd60f6 HandlerTimeline::TrackViewArea::SetVisibleBaseTime(dvamediatypes::TickTime const&, double const&, bool) + 54
3rd Time.
Relevant Line = 1 com.adobe.UIFramework.framework 0x00000001048184ef UIF::TimeBarControlImpl::Enable(bool) + 79
I'm hoping someone with a Mac / Premiere background will be able to link these 3 crashes to one cause, but they would only solve half of my problem.
I believe Auto Save was corrupting my project Save files for the past 5 days. I had Autosave set to 20 minute intervals before and after Saving and closing my project I was unable to open it again. Even after cleaning out the media cache and resetting Premiere (re-installing) back to defaults the projects themselves would not open without freezing during loading of media. I was forced to create a new project and reimport the previous one to advance in my editing process. After disabling auto-save, I can now save a project and re-open it safely (most of the time), but it doesn't help when the program itself crashes.
Any and all help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Corn
Computer Specs: 2012 MacBook Pro (non-retina). Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 . Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 . Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB . Software OS X 10.8.5 (12F45). CUDA Driver Version 5.5.28 (Updated 10 hours ago).I'm not sure what the TimeBarControl is (not a developer...) but my best guess is that it's the widget that the scrub bar in the Timeline and the Monitors is built on. As for what could be causing the crash, I'd only be guessing. A few things I'd try to isolate:
Whether the crash is limited to certain sequences, or possibly just one.
Whether it's tied to certain content: a single clip, a multicam or nested sequence, ...
Given the TimeBarControl and SetVisibleTimebase refs, whether it's associated either with the way you have things set up for one or more of the scrub bars (zoom level, timecode display mode, Show Audio Time Units...) or with the actual timebase of the content or the sequence (unusual frame rate, use of Interpret Footage to specify the frame rate of content). -
Lightroom storage of images and it's catalog
I’m looking into using lightroom to manage my wedding and commercial photography as I have heard many speak highly about it. I’m currently using Capture One 4.0 on a Mac Pro but as always I’m always looking to improve upon the workflow. Right now I have been going back and forth between Bridge and Capture One.
I have a NAS 2TB RAID drive which I store all my jobs on that are in various stages of production. Each job is in it’s own folder on the drive. (Each job can be 15 to 25 Gigs.) When I’m actually working on a job I have another copy of that job on a internal 500GB RAID which is a separate drive from the main drive with the OS and Apps on. The 500GB drive is where the raw file adjustments and all other image manipulation is done. All of the adjustments which Capture One does are save into a folder it makes in that job folder. Each night when I have finished working on and making adjustments to my files and or RAW files, I sync the Job folder on the internal RAID drive and the NAS drive. Now the NAS drive has all of my adjustments and latest files. Then, at the end of the job, the job folder (which houses the image files and Capture One’s folder) is burned to disc. If I ever need the files again, I can just grab the Job folder and even just a Raw files with its Capture One adjustment files from the Disc, and save to the internal drive and I have my corrections again. Now this has been working for all my Raw files. But the problem is Capture One does not see PSD files at all so when I'm in Bridge, I can't see the Adjustments on my Raw Files, or when in Capture One, I can't see my PSD files.
Question I have here is about how Lightroom works with files. It looks like it builds a catalog of all the images when you import them. Does that catalog keep building and getting larger and larger and is it on the same drive as the lightroom app? If I switch to Lightroom, can I work my files the same way I do now? Internal RAID drive for working on the files, SYNC to the NAS drive to back up and for short term storage, then Burn to disc for long term storage (As of now I have over 100 DL DVD stored), and if needed to be able to pull the job back off of if needed?
MIght seem like a lot of steps here and a complicated workflow, but it has been working for me for a couple of years. If Lightroom can be managed like this it might be a good switch from Capture One for me.
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks,
PeteI think LR gives you an opportunity to greatly simplify your workflow. The key is its non-destructive editing capability. You will have the original image on your main drive and then you can create multiple "versions" of it for different treatments using LR's virtual copy facility. You can export, print or send the final images to a web site - all within Lightroom.
If you have time I think you should look at your workflow with an understanding of LR's user model and tools. Don't think of it as fitting LR into your existing workflow but a way to start afresh.
There's a couple of really good blog posts that summarise LR's capabilities:
Scott Kelby's “10 Things I Would Tell New Lightroom Users” at http://www.scottkelby.com/blog/2009/archives/7180
John Beardsworth's “10 Things I Wish I Could Tell a Slightly Less Novice Lightroom User” at http://www.beardsworth.co.uk/news/comment_1.php?id=1493_0_1_0_C
I wish I'd read them before I plunged into LR from ThumbsPlus and ACDSee Pro.
For what it's worth I discuss my workflow using Lightroom at http://bkkphotographer.wordpress.com/2009/09/19/my-workflow/. I am not a wedding or commercial photographer but I do handle a lot of images.
I hope this helps.

Help: flash CS5 crashing and corrupted .fla's
I'm having one hell of a problem and could really use anyone's help who has a good idea.
I am working in flash CS5 on windows 7 64.
I am currently also running into the crash at save problem. The most recent version of my .fla corrupted about four days ago, which is something I've grown accustomed to (got the wonderful 'unexpected file format' error). So I went to my backup file- same issue. I had to go back 12 backup versions to find one that would work (even my backups on external drives when copied back over to the local drive or opened from the external would give this error. They did NOT give this error a week ago). But this backup version now crashes on Save, Save As, or if I try to create a new .fla while the backup .fla is open, it crashes. If I try to open any other .fla while the backup .fla is open, flash crashes. Sometimes is gets non responsive and needs to close; sometimes it simply sits there, does nothing, SAYS it's running, but will not respond to clicks, minimizing the window, or anything at all and I will have to force quit out. Sometimes it will crash when simply clicking a library item.
I have tried the following recommended fixes:
save the file to a new directory- on the rare chance that flash doesn't crash on save (about 1 in 10), and doesn't corrupt and make a new .fla that's 2k in size (about 1 in 4), the new .fla has all the same problems of the original.
change the JAVA environment variable- no help
increase the jvm.ini xmx value - tried 124. 256, 512, no help
open the file using zip and access the xml library assets directly, deleting them until you find a corrupt file- done it. three times. to three different versions of the .fla from the backup files. Flash still crashes.
save out as .xfl - on the rare chance that flash doesn't crash on save, the .xfl is corrupted (2k file size, no library, and for some reason a black square for an icon) about 3 out of 4 times. The 4th time, the file works no better than any other .fla
update flash player - no help.
update plugins for all browsers and debug versions - no help
update flash CS5 to the most recent version - no help
download and install all windows updates - no help
delete preferences and config folders - no help
The ONLY way I can avoid flash crashing is to go back to a backup version from more than two months ago. This version will open, save properly, and debug properly without error.
I have attempted and failed at every suggested fix I have found online or on these forums for this cluster of problems I'm currently having. I have three weeks to the project deadline, and there is no way I can go back two months in the production timeline.
obviously I cannot afford to lose two months of work. If anyone has any idea what could be happening, I would be exstatic- I'm really at the end of my rope here. After four days of looking for help and fixes online and on these forums and talking to adobe support on the phone ('we do not handle coding issues' is the only response I get. gee, thanks for the help), none of the fixes that have been recommended to me have worked.another update-
I've managed to reconstruct a file from my original corrupted file that will open and is editable (as long as i don't click through the library items too fast- that will freeze and crash flash). This file is less than 50 megs.
When attempting to publish, export, or test in conjunction with the document .as associated with the file however I end up with either A: no swf produced and an empty report, or B: a 2k swf with a black square for an icon.
debug produces the 'does not contain actionscript' error.
upon failing to publish, export, test, or debug, flash will then either A: freeze B:freeze, then crash, or (my personal favorite) C: continue to function so long as I don't click on any library items, try to open a new file, try to open an old file, try to save, try to save as, try to exit the program, or try to close a file from the window (all of these result in freezing, crashing, or freezing and then crashing. There is no apparent pattern to what happens). Also, clicking back and forth between the properties and library panels in the fla file or the as file will, well, sort of overlay the two panels halfway on top of each other and sort of 'ghost' parts of one onto the other. What I mean is, if the library panel is open and I click over to the properties panel (both are tabs in the same window of the workspace), the properties panel will be completely gray without any of it's usual boxes or text or button, and instead will have the names of some of the previous library items, greyed out, floating in random places that don't directly relate to where they were before. Basically, it's all messed up. And at this point the program will either freeze, crash, freeze and crash, or become completely unresponsive and require a force quit (surprise!).
If I gut the fla down to an even smaller size of about 10-20megs, I can avoid most of these problems, although flash is still very slow to open files (20meg file takes a good 90-120 seconds to open), save files (at least 30 seconds to save a 20meg), and generally clicking around and going about my business of editing symbols or typing script is laggy and slow. This of course doesn't really do me much good, since it requires me to gut 80% of my projects assets.
I can't tell if i'm getting closer or further away from a solution....... -
Flash CS5 crash and corruption during previewing attempt Mac OSX 10.6.3
I had been using Flash CS5 as a trial for the past 6 days without issues. Yesterday, I made a change to a file, and went to preview it, as I had several times before. This time, when I slected preview movie, Flash crashed umexpectedly. When I launched it again, it came up looking very corrupted - window as messed up, and any an all attempts to load any of the workspaces resulted in Flash crashes. I had to completely uninstall it including all prefs to get it to work again. Anyone having similar issues? I am hesitant to try a preview movie again.
I have multiple crash logs - here is one of the first:

ITunes 7.0.1 crashes and corrupts - DON'T UPGRADE!
Installed iTunes 7.0.1 on three state of the art computers and it crashed in each case. All computers running Windows XP Pro. All installations were by an experienced techie logged in to the Administrator account.
Furthermore, iTunes 7.0.1 corrupted the iTunes database files, making them useless.
I've been using and upgrading iTunes for two years with no problems until 7.0.1.
Thank you, Apple engineers, for imitating Microsoft by completely ruining what used to be a decent product.
Apple is FUBAR.
DO NOT UPGRADE TO THIS JUNK unless you really want to spend your time rolling back to 6.0.5.20 instead of listening to music.

It would appear that the corrupted script files are sessionstore.js or prefs.js.

Preview crashes (and corrupts print drivers)
Certain actions with documents- opening, using and/or saving PDF Documents prepared and secured with Adobe (Live Cycle Designer) PDF software- really blow up OS X 10.7.2 and Preview. No warnings and/or restrictions to actions seem to affect those docs in Preview. However, nasty after effects can result (no Adobe pun intended). Besides crashing the app here's what else may happen:
Frameworks components affecting the Printer Driver may crash (in my case the HP Printer 2025dn stopped printing.
Typed in information disappears and is visible only in Preview and not in Adobe Reader or other PDF apps.
Later on, to fix the above problems, the printer drivers for the failed printer had to be reloaded and are not avaialable separately. I used "HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers2.7.2" available from Apple Downloads.
The System Volume became damaged and needed repair (Volume Info).
An example of this is any form downloaded from the IRS website. I have since set all these forms (in the GetInfo screen) to open with Adobe Reader X which seems to fix these issues and it allows the forms to be saved (which Reader 9 for Mac) did not.
Be careful out there.

I try to drag a photo folder into lightroom 4 on my MAC, lightroom fails to open and a 'Corrupt Catalog Detected' screen pops up. Clicking on 'repair catalog' does not work either. Any suggestions?
I'll have to get a better instructor on deleting the preferences since when I've doen it in the past nothing is there when I open LR the catalog is gone. I assumed that was what was supposed to happen so I start importing all over again. But that is a different issue...
The problem has been happening since at least the beta of 3 came out and I saw other posts back then saying they had similar issues but I assume it was a beta thing... But since the full version came out and through each incremental change I haven't seen an improvement. If anything it has gotten a little worse with time.
I have to try to be careful to not be in a hurry and start clicking around in the catalog as it seems fragile until it has cataloged all the photos in the library. When starting you will see the numbers populate the folders very slowly and I try not to click on a folder that hasn't had the number of photos pop up yet. Also draging the slider down to see more of the cataloge can have the same affect and crash the system.
I wish I had more to go on.. I believe it may be a resources issue but as I went from 3-4 Gig I thought it would get better. I don't have big programs running but did have outlook and word running in the background along with firefox and chrome.
And yes it only happens on this HP desktop (it's 2+ yrs old) and may be showing it's age a bit. My laptop which has less resources doesn't have the issue.. I have them sharing the catalog. (not at the same time) just when I'm working in other places in the house.

During my absence LR5 must have crashed and the catalog some how got corrupted. A pop up window is telling me it is trying to restore LR, but that has been going for hours now and nothing is happening. I can't restart LR.
The title of the window is "Restoring Catalog"
It says: The catalog named "Lightroom 5 Catalog" was left in an inconsistent state. Lightroom must restore the catalog before proceeding.
This may take several minutes.
There is a progress bar below that, which does not show any progress. It's just showing the revolving barber shop bar
It"s been doing this for the last 3 hours. Obviously nothing is going to happen there.
Thanks dj -
Lightroom 5 is crashing my Mac, can it be from a corrupt catalog file?
Lightroom 5 is crashing my Mac approximately 2 minutes after the application is open. I usually freezes after the 4th or 5th click in trying to edit a photo. I've tried different photos in different folders, and I get the same results.
To try to remedy this, I had the stand alone LR5 app., and removed it from my iMac. I installed Creative Cloud, and downloaded LR5 again. Opened the application (it seemed to remember all my settings, so I'm assuming it found and used the same catalog file as before) and it crashed my computer again in the same way.
IS THERE A WAY TO REPAIR THE CATALOG FILE?? I am dead in the water until I can fix this, or find a work around so I can finish the edits on this wedding!
Any help is greatly appreciated.I've taken my computer to the Genius Bar, to check the computer, and it turns out it was a failing hard drive... Once I'm back up and running with the new drive, and restore from my back up, I will try this again. If it still happens with current catalog file, I will try with a new catalog file. Thank you.
