Lightroom 3.6 is giving me odd colours.

Hi,
I'm shooting RAW files on a Canon 550D
I am also using Canon DPP software as well
I have a custom screen profile created with  a ColorVision Spyder2
I'm using a Canon pixmania MG6250 with genuine Canon Inks and Paper
I'm Using the PRINTER'S profile to manage output (not perfect but not bad either)
In Lightroom 3.6 I am getting very odd color problems. Not all colors seem to be affected but most particularly lips in portraits are hugely over saturated with a positive red shift. Reds in general are too saturate but this doesn't extend to a red colour cast. In lightroom I have assigned the correct camera profile (e.g. almost always camera faithful).
When I look at the same file (both LR and DPP unaltered) the colours are what I expect them to be in DPP but not in LR.
When I print the files from LR and DPP I get exactly the same results as with the screen colours for both programs. I have checked for updates but without success.
Any suggestions?

LR Adobe Standard should give you very similar color rendering as DPP Camera Faithful. Based on your description I would try adjusting LR's White Balance and make sure Vibrance and Saturation are set to '0,' and then compare the difference between DPP and LR.
If still different check to make sure your Spyder 2 software is set to create ICC v2 profiles and NOT v4 profiles. You might also try creating a new display calibration profile. LR is very picky about any inconsistency in the display profile. When every other application looks fine except LR, the display profile is the first thing I would investigate.

My imac screen display is unfocussed, odd coloured and blurred (caused by rogue cate walking over keyboard).  I have no idea what settings have changed or what to check.  Any ideas?!

It could be a number of keyboard shortcuts, here's a few.
If the screen is zoomed,  hold CNTL and scroll down with mouse or trackpad.
If screen looks like a negative,  hold down CNTL OPT CMD and click 8.
Let us know how what other symptoms are shown.

  • Adobe Lightroom 4. When using the HSL / Colour / B

In the Develop Module, why have my colours in the HSL/ Colour / B & W Tool sliders disappeared ? I purchased Lightroom 4 over the net from Adobe. Any help would be really appreciated. I am not that technical in my knowledge

Thank you for your feedback. I tried doing as you suggested. While in the Develop Module, I clicked on Panels from the drop down menu and then reselected the HSL/ Colour / B & W, but unfortunately, if I followed your directions correctly HSL/ Colour / B & W sliders are still B & W. I should have added that I have downloaded Apple's latest operating system.  I did read on another forum topic that there was an issue in Lightroom 4 with sliders going white, associated with Mavericks OSX. That sounds like the problem I have. I did note I still have functionality, but having the colours visually on the sliders does assist me (at least).
On that note, does any one know if the issue in Lightroom 4 with sliders going white, associated with Mavericks OSX has been resolved?

  • [SOLVED] Odd colours in vim/urxvt

So I'm using the base16 colourset in my Xresources and something really strange seems to be happening. The colours being used by vim to perform syntax highlighting are just wrong. As in, there are colours being used that aren't even specified in my Xresources file.
Periodically, like 1 out of 50 calls to vim they will look "correct".
    $TERM is rxvt-unicode-256colors
Nothing to do with colours or colour schemes in my .vimrc.
Can anyone tell me what's going on here?
EDIT: I should add that the colours look strange for commands like ls as well.

Sorry, I may not have explained clearly, but I did try and install the base16 colorscheme for vim, following all the steps that the author provided. However there were some steps involving running bash scripts that just didn't work, most likely why the colorscheme didn't work.
Thanoulis wrote:1) Vim always uses a colorscheme, even if not present in .vimrc. In that case it uses :colorscheme default.
This I did not know. Thanks for telling me. In that case I guess there are bugs in the base16 colourscheme for vim (as a lot of comments on the repository seem to suggest).
    2) In Xresources, we define the terminal's color palette, not vim's colorscheme. My guess is that you use a different color palette for urxvt and xterm (hence the differences in vim colors)
I don't, since I only have one Xresources file that presumably applies to both terminal emulators.
    3) The weird looks from your ssh session, is because in the host machine there is not a valid terminfo file. Usually its fixed by installing the same type of terminal emulator in both machines.
Ugh, really? I never thought that was necessary... can I fake this in any way? I don't have sudo access to any of the work machines I ssh into.
If you really like the base 16 colors in vim, try :colorscheme peachpuff (it's the one i use, and comes with vim).
    Thanks, this worked a treat!

  • Button Shape has Odd Colours on Edges

I finally was able to get my custom shape working. But now when I apply it as a button, the edges of it have random red/yellow/blue pixels on it. How do I get rid of these? Even if I use the shapes that come with DVDSP, these strange edge-pixels still appear. What's going on?

    Hi Phillip,
We meet again. The problem you are having I think is the colour mapping of your buttons. Click on the button. This should bring up the button inspector box. Here you will see a tab called "Colours". We should be able to adjust the colour mapping to maximise the "cool" factor for your button edges.

  • MacBook Pro screen keeps going odd colours

My Mid 2009 MBP's screen keeps going a single colour full screen. It has happened several times. I have attached an image to show what happens.
I have tried to replecate it, but the first time it happened I was tying. The second time (turned grey) I moved the MacBook and the third time (burnt orange) I moved the display. I have since tried shaking the laptop, and moving the screen, but nothing.
    Is this a common thing?

I don't know how much you're willing to spend to get a 'like-new' notebook, but you may want to take the machine into one of your local Apple Stores and ask about Apple's flat rate repair pricing. I don't know that it's available worldwide, but at least it's worth asking about.

  • Lightroom Catalog size...

I have a problem. I am running Lightroom 4.1.1 It is running on a windows Vista home premium 64 bit computer. I have in my catalog about 110,000 pictures.
I have some rather serious stability issues, getting the blue screen of death about once every 3 or 4 days.
I was at a seminar this morning on Lightroom and they guy giving the program told me that I can only have 100,000 in a catalog. I have over 110,000 pictures in my catalog.
In an effort to solve the problem, I used the export as a catalog command under "file"
It appears that I now have a second catalog, but the pictures have moved and also I have two catalogs with pictures in both...
So here is what I need to do. How do I make the size of my catalog smaller? I would like to split it up by year.
I also need to know if people have had stability issues with Lightroom working in the vista 64 bit operating system.

    Hi Paul
There isn't a top limit as such - my biggest catalog is currently 160k
odd - but the computer can run out of address space on big catalogs.
If you want to split your catalog, you were spot on with your Export as
Catalog idea. If you uncheck ''export negative files" then it'll leave
the files where they are, rather than creating duplicates.
I'd be tempted, personally, to split your catalog off into multiple
catalogs, and then zip your current catalog just in case you missed
something, so you can always go back and find it again.
Are your folders organized by year? Right clicking on each year's
folder and export a folder at a time would probably be easiest.

  • Image Orientation/Rotation Problem in Lightroom 3.2 Final

This is a continuation of my previous post regarding this same problem in 3.2RC. It's still happening in the Final version of Lightroom 3.2.
    THE PROBLEM
Image orientation is not working properly in Lightroom 3.2. This affects newly imported images and images that were already in my Lightroom database -  and which have been in the database since Version 1.
Here's a screen capture showing the strange displays I'm seeing in  Lightroom's grid mode:
Notice the odd angle of the image. When I use the Rotate Photo Left tool, the display looks like this sometimes. After a second or so, it will snap to either a vertical or horizontal orientation by itself but rarely gives me the 90-degree rotation this tool should give. The image may flip 90-degrees or 180-degrees, there's no way to tell.
When I view the image in Loupe view or on my second monitor, the orientation shown in Grid view does not match that displayed in Loupe Vew. For this particular image, Grid view currently shows it as correctly orientated as a horizontal while Loupe view shows it rotated 90-degrees to the right. Shouldn't they match?
    BACKGROUND
I never had a problem with image orientation in any preveious version of Lightroom prior to Lightroom 3.2RC and 3.2 Final. So, it seems to be a bug in 3.2. I'm still using the same computer and video card I used with previous versions. My operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium. Both Windows and Lightroom are 64-bit.
    HELP!
Is anyone else having this problem? How can I solve it?
    Alan
    PhtooCitizen.com

The size of the catalogue is almost certainly not at play here.
FWIW, I recall seeing something like this once a long time ago on a Mac, possibly with Lr 3 beta, or Lr 2.x.  It went away with a restart. It almost looks like a threading issue, where a thread is suspended or preempted and then is lost or disconnected from the main UI thread.
I recall you can just rotate the image again and it will right itself.
Adobe fist-line support seem to want to use the number of images in the catalogue as some sort of catch-all.  The problem with this is that most of us can demonstrate that there is little correspondence with the number of image IDs in the database and many reported UI artefacts.
I'd keep raising this with them, and suggesting that the size of the catalogue is probably not at play here. As a tactic, you can ask what the maximum size of a catalogue should be, and if it is raw images or the number of changes to the images and virtual copies that is the problem, and if this can be verified by second- or third-line support.

  • Trying to upload raw cr2 files and Lightroom says "file is not recognized"

Backstory: I photographed a VERY important commercial shoot today and I went to upload the photos to Lightroom. The first 30 images uploaded just fine, but the rest won't. Lightroom says the file is not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom (401). Everything is updated in my computer... Lightroom, Photoshop ect. Photoshop also says that the file cannot be read. I can't open them in iPhoto or preview either. BUT I can see the thumbnail when I click the camera card reader on the desktop. I am uploading from a card reader as well. I shot with this card yesterday and everything was fine. I NEVER delete photos off my camera, and I always format it. If it is corrupted, how do you I find that out, and is there anyway to get my photos back?
Is there anything I can do to fix this? I am panicking. Help, please.
    Thank you in advance

The two raw files you've uploaded to dropbox are corrupted so Lightroom and Photoshop are giving you the correct message.  At least with these two, the embedded JPG preview is there but the raw data is not correct so cannot be rendered.  Here is the error that Canon's own software gives when the files are attempted to be edited:
You should reattempt to copy the images from the memory cards to your computer using a card reader and an operating-system function (Explorer or Finder) to do it rather than LR or a cable connected to the camera, then see if things work any better.  If you already used a card reader, then try a different one and see if the situation improves.
If you cannot get a better set of images by retransferring them, then we can work through how to extract the embedded JPG previews en masse.

  • Uploaded image colours different to photoshop

Hi, I've never had this experience before, however I started using lightroom 3 and photoshop CS4, and the colour calibration from photoshop to uploading is completely different. The only way past it is I've found to screen dump it, then save it as a png, yet the colours are still very distraughted .
    http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs177.snc3/20451_1239212413707_1031169870_305 66108_2408780_n.jpg
image 2 (saved as a high quality jpeg from the TIFF):

Slightly better then the last but the colours are still completely wrong. The colours are fine when I send the picture over by email to someone, the colours are also fine in programs like word, paint and fax viewer (which you would expect to have no colour correction).
For the first image I showed, I combined it together, then I cropped it, saved it as a jpeg, and it still had the distraughted colours, I had to save it in png. I can't directly save it as a png because the colours are still distraugted :/
All browsers I've tried have done it, as on my friends computer. We've tried Firefox, chrome, internet explorer and oprah, ff on linux also.
Photos have been 16 bit modified to 8 bit, however, I've done that plenty of times in the past and its made no difference to the colours. 2nd image is 16 bit png and still weird :/
I've also tried to upload them to about 5 differnet sites, (facebook, devientart, flickr, imageshack & photo.net gallery). Attachments also do not look fine (however attachments for other sites do :/ *is very stumped*
Please help. *note, 1st image was edited in lightroom > cs4 > cs3*
    Thank you

Both images are RGB, I think it might be something to do wiht lightroom, since when I import it into lightroom to CS4 save it and then go into CS3. Colour space is RGB, and both pictures have been converted into 8 bit, however, wihtout the conversion, they still have the desaturated colours.
Before I was using Adobe CS3 and the in built RAW photo editor, which has been fine. Ever since I've been using lightroom / CS4 combination (I switched both programs at the exact same time), its been a problem. However some images have a greater effect then others (for black and white you hardly notice).
Would it have something to do with the rendering mode in lightroom? Since I do not have the correct graphics drivers to render in CS4 because my fan doesn't work in my GPU...its holding on till I get a new one, barely...

  • Difference in Camera Raw 7.2 and Lightroom 4.2

Camera Raw 7.2 seems to have introduced a colour management issue since the Adobe Standard camera profile is no longer present in Camera Raw 7.2, whereas it still appears in the Lightroom 4.2 version.
This means that raw files exports from Lightroom 4.2 to Photoshop CS6 as an external editor get converted from Adobe Standard (the Lightroom default) into one of the ACR presets in Camera raw resulting in a marked colour shift.
Since it does not appear possible to select the profile being used by Camera Raw on the fly when using Photoshop as an external editor from within Lightroom then this cannot be corrected.
The only solution seems to be to define a default profile such as Camera Standard v4 in Camera Raw and ensure that all images in Lightroom are assigned this profile when importing so that the colour remains consistent when editing in Photoshop.
The two dialogs are shown below.
This did not appear to be an issue in earlier versions of Camera Raw (at least, not on my old MBP with CS5 and LR3), so why has the Adobe Standard profile been removed and how can we select a different profile when using Photoshop CS6 as an external editor in Lightroom 4.2 in order to maintain colour consistency?

Did you perhaps delete or un-install anything related to Adobe lately? ACR and LR shuld be seeing the exact same set of DNG profiles unless things have been removed or moved. You could try downloading the most recent version of DNG Converter 7.2 and do an install. This should replace all DNG profiles current with ACR 7.2.

  • FB has changed colours, but only when viewed in Firefox Browser. Why and how to fix?

There appears to be something going on between the FB webpage and Firefox web browser. On my page it comes up with a pink background instead of the usual grey. Also posts that are linked to outside FB sometimes end up turning various shades - green, yellow and red. I have also reported this to FB. It only occurs in Firefox and FB appears normal in all other browsers. I have not manipulated the screen shots in anyway. It goes away for a bit when I refresh. Any link I share that has this odd colouring remains that colour once shared. Here's hoping you can find out what is going on. And for some reason the images won't attach to this report/question. The files aren't that big either.

hello Sharon_Knits, please go through the steps covered in [[Websites look wrong or appear differently than they should]] - they should contain the most common solutions for the issue you've described...

  • Colour profile problem?

I'm using Indesign CS2 to create large numbers of web banners but have just noticed some odd colour behaviour after creating my templates. I prefer Indesign to Photoshop and Illustrator for this because it allows better control of text. Colour profiles for all applications is sRGB.
    In InDesign CS2 I have a box filled with r255 g0 b0:
    1. Export as a jpeg and open with photoshop the red changes to r248 g0 b0.
    2. Copy and paste the entire page into Photoshop gives r255 g0 b0.
    3. Put an image with transparency over the red box and export as a jpeg gives r208 g5 b24.
I have gotten aroung this problem by not using transpapency in images - but why would transparency affect the colour of other elements on the page?
    Many thanks in advance...

I try to export a page or spread as a jpeg and the color profile is stripped. I've made sure transparency bleed space is RGB but I still get no profile in the resulting jpg.
    Any thoughts?
