Lightroom 3 64-bit Issue

I just bought a new 64-bit Windows 7 laptop upgrading from a 32-bit Windows 7 laptop where I used Lightroom 3.  I just downloaded and installed Lightroom 3 on my new laptop.  It installed the 64-bit version by default.  It runs but I cannot view my photos even though the catalogs are in place.  What do I need to do to make the photos viewable?

Can you retake the screenshot so that it shows the top of the Folders Panel, like this:
Also, you didn't really answer any of my questions, so could you do that? The reason why all the thumbnails are blank is likely that you only copied the catalog (the catalogname.lrcat file) to the new laptop, but didn't copy the associated previews folder (catalogname Previews.lrdata) which resides adjacent to the catalog. You can either go back and copy them over (if you still have access to the old laptop), or you can have Lightroom rebuild them from scratch....but it can't do that until we reconnect it with the photos.
So where are the photo files now?

  • Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 64-bit has stopped working [Lightroom 5 Beta]

I was looking for a Lightroom 5 Beta forum but am unable to find one.  Today, I downloaded and installed LR5 Beta on my new HP Envy 64-bit Windows 8 machine.  After running an installation, I started the program.  At first, it asked about opening a catalogue during which time I created a new one as I have no intention of using my LR4 catalogue for LR5B.  After creating the catalogue, it stated the following:
"Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 64-bit has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
After it closed, I tried opening it again.  Same result.  No matter how many times I tried, the program would not open.  I tried reinstalling the program to no avail using the "repair" feature.  Finally, I just removed the program.

I had not been using my laptop for a while and decided to install lightroom 3.2.  I did the install and now when I try to start lightroom I get the error message in the subject line:

Any ideas as to how I can solve this problem.

I may have just solved my own problem. Right after posting this I googled bezel lightroom and found this: Flickr: Discussing The word 'bezel' appears in the taskbar. in Adobe Lightroom
I changed the setting in the view menu and now everything appears to be working fine. I cannot explain why it stopped working before because I hadn't made any previous changes to the view options.
Still am curious about the memory usage, though.

  • Lightroom 64-bit error loading flash player

I just upgraded my computer to Win7 x64, and installed the most recent version of Lightroom which, of course, installed the 64-bit version of Lightroom 2.6.
My problem, I get an error message whenever I go to the Web module:
An unexpected error occurred while loading a module:
    Assertion failed: lua_pcall(L,2,1,0)==0
Then if I click to continue, I get the message: Failure to load flash player
Has anyone encountered this? Any solutions? I believe I have the most recent version of Adobe Flash Player installed. I'm stymied about how to go forward and I'm in the middle of rebuilding my portfolio gallery using SlideshowPro for Lightroom. I can still "build it" but I can't preview any of what I'm doing on screen in Lightroom.
    Thanks for the help.

Thanks for your replies. I've read that Apple, for instance, won't support Flash on the iPhone (which I'd dearly love) because it's waiting for the "latest and greatest" HTML to replace it. Pretty silly really, since overnight, Flash won't disappear from sites that are already deeply coded in it. All you have to look at is the JPEG2000 spec to see that virtually no one has embraced this improved JPEG codec. Even Photoshop requires you install it as a goodie.
Charlie, how did you get your Lightroom 64-bit to use the Flash player? Or are you still running the 32-bit under Win7 x64? I wish I hadn't updated my Lightroom, since I was running 2.5 32-bit and the player would still work. The stupid thing is, 64-bit Windows has been coming a long time. I downloaded (though never installed) 64-bit WinXP. Vista x64 was the first really major implementation of it, and now, most new computer systems (from Dell for instance) automatically ship with the 64-bit operating system. The raodmap was out there a long time. It annoys the crap out of me that suddenly a major component of Lightroom is non-functional.

Is there a fix to this?

Very likely there is a way to fix this, but since we don't know the root cause yet, it's just experimentation time. Here is a list of the steps mentioned as well as many others: Troubleshoot system errors, freezes | Windows | Adobe software

    Hallo,
Since a short time I work with Adobe Lightroom 64 bits.
But i do not really see any differents between 32 bit and 64 bit.

I heard there should be atleast 4 GB of memory.

You probably won't see much difference in performance between 32 bit and 64 bit however I think if you upgraded the RAM in your iMac to 4 or 6 GB of RAM you would see some performance improvements. You can get upgraded RAM from a variety of sources but 2 of the most popular on this forum are

  • Lightroom 2.1-PhotoFrame 4.1-PS CS4 64 bit issue

OnOne tells me that PS CS4 64 bit is not supported in PhotoFrame 4.1. When I try to use PhotoFrame from LR, it attempts to open the images in PS CS4 64 bit. Is there any way to get LR to default to launching the non-64 bit version of PS (which is also installed on my computer.) Thanks for the help!
    Jonathan Prescott

The easiest way is to have the 32 bit open. LR will not close it to open the 64 bit.

  • Lightroom/CS3 color issues on Mac

    Hello,
I've seen a few posts about color issues, and I've tried following the advice posted, and I'm still having a problem. My photos appear fine in PS and in Lightroom (as well in in Mac's previewer) but when I upload them to the web or view the saved file on another computer, they appear severely desaturated with a blue tone.
I'm using running Mac OX X on a new MacBook Pro. I have Lightroom and CS3 installed and fully patched.
I am shooting in RAW with my Nikon, and importing the photos to Lightroom. In Lightroom, I choose "edit in CS3" and then the file opens in CS3. My settings for that are to open it as a 16 bit PDF ProPhoto RGB. My color settings in CS3 are set to ProPhoto RGB working space, preserve embedded profiles, ask when opening and pasting.
The files still look great when I open them in PS, and then I save them and when I look at them again in Lightroom they also look good (the same). However, if I export them as .jpgs from Lightroom, or save them directly from CS3, they lose their color quality.
I've found that if I change my proof setup to "monitor RGB" then I can see the photos the same way they appear when saved (the bad, desaturated version).
I would really appreciate any help anyone could provide. I am generally happy with my Lightroom/CS3 workflow, but I'm totally baffled with this color issue.
    Emily

Well, I think what you need to do is get a better grasp on the fundimentals of color management-which is a bit beyond the scope of what the forums can offer you.
The bottom line is that Lightroom & Photoshop CSx (meaning past CS or actually even back to 7) can and does make use of display profiles (you can't turn it off even if Photoshop has a setting that makes you think you can). An image in Lightroom and Photoshop is always color managed...outside of an app that is color management, all bets are off.
Save, assigning and converting to profiles are all very different. Photoshop CS3's color settings are absolutely critical because that's how you deal with managed and unmanaged color.
Until you learn different, I would suggest that you set your CS3 color settings to North American PrePress 2....if you want images for the web, Convert To sRGB or use the new Save For Web (which can now do the sRGB conversion-finally).
For other uses and purposes, I would suggest that you seriously consider using Adobe RGB-until such time that you understand the implications of using Pro Photo RGB.

  • Aperture to Lightroom plugin storage issue

The plugin doesn't seem to refresh the available storage space number when changed to an external drive that has plenty of space. As my aperture libraries are both 250GB and I'm on a macbook with about 70gb remaining, it causes a bit of an issue.
    Any thoughts?

Very sorry about the late reply.  Was having issues posting to the forum and forgot to come back.
What I'd do is relocate all your managed images to "referenced" on the same 4tb drive.  In doing so, make sure you choose a folder/file convention that will match the physical structure you'd like to see in Lightroom.  This choice is not mandatory, but is helpful.  Note: If you convert managed images, they'd just wind up in one locatino.
I should have asked what size your Aperture library is.  If you have space for all your images a second time over, then yes, you should not be seeing this error.  But if you're using the plugin on a library with many managed images, the plug-in needs to copy those images, even if it's on the same drive, to a location outside your Aperture library.  That's why it's helpful to relocate them as "referenced" images before the conversion.
