Lightroom 3 and Canon SX30 IS Photo transfer problem

Hello, I recently replaced my stolen SX20 IS with a SX30 IS and picked up Lightroom as well. I have novice experience on photoshop and more extensive experience with iPhoto. I am working with the the 3.4 version for Lightroom that I downloaded the update last night (8/8/11)
The problem is when I have tried importing the photos and video from the camera they are only seen as .JPEG and and a low quality .MVO formats. I have taken the photos in L setting which is 14MP 4320x3240 and the video in HD 1280x720. I checked them on the camera and they are saved as such, no mistakes in settings on the camera. I have systematically  searched the import options on Lightroom yet cannot find anything that adjusts the import file type. I know I will have to delete the photos from the library to get them to be recognized once I figure out how to save them as either RAW or TIFF, my prefered file types to work with. I just need to know how to get Lightroom to recognize them
Any help would be appreciated

You cannot "save as" and change the format of the images that you import from your camera.  Lightroom simply imports what is there.  Lightroom WILL enable you to convert the raw images to DNG, but that is the only exception.  One of the options in Lightroom is to treat JPEG and raw images next to each other as separate images.  Unless you have that option selected, Lightroom will only display the JPEG image.  So check your preferences to see how you have that set.  As far as video files are concerned, Lightroom doesn't change the format of those either.  It's simply allows you to see those videos in the library, and then view them with your default movie viewer.

  • IPad2 photo transfer problem

I am trying to import pictures from an sd card to my iPad2. I have the SD card reader and have followed the instructions on my ipad but my ipad does not even respond to the fact there is an SD card available. What am I doing wrong?? I have also attached the camera to my iPad and it says that the devise uses too much power and will not do anything with it.

Has your camera got a setting on it to enable PTP (photo transfer protocol, some cameras call it Pictbridge) or Mass Storage Device ?
And for the SD card itself, how did the photos get onto it ? If you copied them to it from your computer then you need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card, with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them.
If the photos on the card came directly from your camer then try a reset and see if the card is recognised after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

I'm replying quite late on this thread. It's quite possible that you would have already gotten your answer by now. But even then I suppose some comments won't do any harm.
The feature of custom labels for Contact details is really a feature directly dependent on the capability of the Nokia Phone model you are using. E.g.. My old Nokia N73 had this feature, however, my Nokia E7-00 does not.
Although I miss this feature of custom contact labels, I believe that this feature does not conform to the global contact schemas standards. And perhaps that's why it may have been discontinued even in the supporting software like PC Suite or the Ovi Suite Applications.
    Hope this helps!

  • Lightroom and Canon RAW Files. THIS NEEDS TO GET RESOLVED!!!

I am EXTREMELY frustrated and unhappy with Lightroom's performance when it comes to processing my Canon 1D Mark II N's .cr2 files. I know others are having this issue with most other Canon models, and I KNOW there are other threads about this. However, I'm about to the point where I cannot stand to process images in Lightroom anymore, due to this frustrating situation.
I know this has to do with the fact that Canon doesn't release their proprietary RAW data, so LR has to "guess" what the image should look like when it is initially imported. HOWEVER, come on Adobe, can't you do a better job at GUESSING? My colors look like CRAP!
Now, before all of you jump on me about develop presets and all that, let me make a couple of things clear.
    - I'm a professional wedding and portrait photographer. Not to sound like an ***, but I know what I'm talking about on this issue. Please don't start making a bunch of suggestions on how to change color space etc... It's all been tried before.
    - I calibrate my monitor. This issue has nothing to do with that anyway.
    - I DO NOT have any automatic presets set to run in lightroom on import OR export.
    - I will not shoot JPEG. Don't say "just shot jpeg" and expect this to be solved.
Here's a screen shot of Lightroom running side by side with Canon's DPP software. For the record, I HATE DPP, but it provides SUPERIOR RESULTS.
DPP is on the left. LR is on the right. No develop settings or presets were applied - the images shown are SOOC after import.

Peter, You may have selected "Auto reset" in the "File numbering" item of the camera's set-up menu, in which case it will start numbering the images from 1 again after re-inserting the CF card. When importing the next time into LR it will see the same file names and tell you that it does not find any new photos to import. This process is determined by file name only in LR and it will import the same file name of different formats having the same prefix, like when you shoot RAW + JPG and have _MG_0123.CR2 and _MG_0123.JPG.

  • Photo Transfer Problem From Minox Dcc M3 to Ipod via Camera Connector

    Hi,
I have a minox Dcc M3 digital camera, and i recently purchased a 5th generation ipod with the intention of downloading images from my minox camera direct to the ipod, so that i could delete the images from my camera and carry on taking more pictures without having to carry my laptop around with me, The camera only has a 32mb built in flash memory and will not download direct to the ipod via an ipod camera connector,I have tried other cameras that only have built in flash memory and none of them will download direct to the ipod, Has anyone out there come across this problem before, according to apple the ipod supports the following image transfer protocols:- PTP
Type 4 (or Normal)and Mass Storage.Could anyone tell me if there is any firmware update for the ipod or camera that would make the ipod compatible with the cameras flash memory and allow me to download my images to my ipod.

I don`t think there is an option to turn on or off any transfer protocols,on connecting the camera to windows xp it connects staight away and viewing/downloading photos is no problem,it works the same as my other camera no problem.I have followed apples procedure of connecting (ie:-turn on ipod/connect camera connector/turn on camera and connect usb cable) the camera then shuts off immediately,i can turn it on again but all i get from the ipod is the message "ready to connect".It seems to me that the ipod does not even know the camera is connected?,looks like maybe this camera is not compatible with ipod, but i cannot help but think that other camera makes with built in memory would suffer from the problem.

  • IPod photo transfer problem

I am having trouble getting my photos from my iPod to a computer. When I connect the iPod to its home computer, the box to use the iPod as a disk drive and the box to include full size photos are both checked. When I open the iPod drive icon in 'My Computer' there is a folder named Photos, but the only things inside are a file named 'Photo Database' and a folder named 'Thumbs.' Inside the Thumbs folder there are various fairly large '.ithmb' files, but there is no sign of any standard photo formats. Any thoughts on what might be going on or how to get my photos would be much appreciated. Thanks.

There are various programs out there for recovering photos from an iPod, have a look at the ones below. If you search the internet you can find more:
    iPodPhotoCopy Windows only
    CopyPodPhoto Windows only
Tansee iPod Transfer Photo Windows only
iPod Photo Liberator Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
If you are only seeing a folder for Thumbs then it sounds like the the "Include Full Resolution photos" box was unchecked when the photos were added. iTunes has only added "optimised", small TV quality versions of the photos to the iPod for you to view.

  • Aperture and Canon 5D mark II import problem: copyright and author metadata

After importing RAW images to Aperture, I missing my name and copyright info in metadata, everything els is there; lens, focal length, shutter sped... I try several methods from camera direct, from memory card, using EOS software to HD and to Aperture. Nothing works. Did anybody have same problem?

    Ah. I didn't know that.
This type of information is defined typically in IPTC, not EXIF. Aperture probably ignores those EXIF fields; in general if it gets EXIF data it doesn't understand, I think it ignores it.
As to your other comment about making this data unmodifiable -- it's not really possible to make it immutable. EXIF in general is a lot harder to modify than IPTC, but unless the file is encrypted and self-checksumming, a person with a sector editor (or an application designed to change EXIF) will get around this.
I don't think there's yet a standard way to really "protect" full-sized image files, at least for JPEG or TIFF files.

  • Do not use Lightroom for Canon 7D RAW files!

I know that Adobe says support is preliminary, but it is just horribly bad, especially on high ISO images.  I just processed the same ISO 1600 picture in both Lightroom and Canon Digital Photo Professional and the difference is unbelievable.  The Lightroom photo looks like it came from a point and shoot.
Abobe - PLEASE make something to match the quality of Canon's converter soon!   Lightroom is one of my all time favorite programs, but this just makes it unusable.

My remarks re DPP were in comparison to the 7D Beta profile. I use LR 2.5 for 95% of my work, and trying the Beta LR3,  and while I have Bibble Pro 4 & 5 Beta (not fond of either), Silkypix Dev Pro (Ok, but LR much better) and Capture One 5 Pro (very good, but uses a lot of disk space in the image directory) and doesn't have the "extras" and plug-in capability of LR.  LR is my preferred processor, but the 7D profile has room to improve.
I just shot a Halloween show with the 5DMkII and 7D, most of the shots were iso 2500 & iso 3200.  I used LR for processing all, and did a batch neat image NR after.  Final images were fine and LR is still my primary processor.

  • Time capture for syncing up Nikon and Canon formats?

Is there a way to set Photoshop CS3 to sync up a Nikon/Mac and Canon/PC systems photos taken same day, same event time? I am wasting lots of time trying to edit things together.  I realize this is probably a dumb question.  Any help appreciated.

    Edit: Resolved the problem
What did the trick for me was that
    1. I removed Bonjour from my Windows machine entirely.
    2. I rebooted Windows (ignore the failures of the Tine Capsule Agent at bootup)
    3. Install Bonjour 1.0.104 from Apple (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/bonjourforwindows.html) and tick the box to add a desktop shortcut for Bonjour Printer Wizard
    4. Create a printer entry by using this wizard
    5. Print away
I also had downloaded & installed the newest Canon drivers on my Windows Machine (v2.0) that are only available from their American support website (or atleast not on the European one) (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDet ailTabAct&fcategoryid=357&modelid=11641)
Tested & working on both my MacBook Pro and Windows XP SP3:
    - Printing of text
    - Dublex printing
    - Pictures with picture enchancements (Vivid Photo, etc.)
What doesn't work is the color notifications and all responses.
    I haven't tried CD-labelprint yet.
What seems to be the problem is that when you create a printer port in Windows using it's own tools it'll default to the port being in LPR-mode and Time Capsule / Airport Extreme will only accept incoming data in RAW -mode over port 9100. Also the airport wizard uses the Bonjour local name for the Time Capsule (timecapsule.local) instead of an IP-address. Don't know if the name/ip difference has anything to do with the problem thou.
    Hope this report helps,
    Reiska

  • Canon EOS Utility, 5D3 and Mountain Lion (10.8.2): connection/data transfer problems

    Hi all,
a few days ago I bought the 5D3, which replaced the 5D2.
I'm experiencing problems in communication between the camera and Mac Book Pro (17" - i7 - 8GB) using EOS Utility (v. 2.12.3) as well as Lightroom 4.3: when I try to transfer photos to my Mac, sometimes the transfer works, sometimes it freezes and crashes (EOS Utility crashes, while LR at the end says he's not able to read the files).
Strangely this what happens randonmly and if the storage format is raw, or if it is the raw along with jpg, if I use only jpg seems to happen a lot less often.
Today I tryed to do same things (photo transfer and thetering) using using a PC with windows 7 x64 with the same softwares (Lightroom 4.3 and EOS Utility 2.12.3): everything worked flawless.
I'm inclined to think that problems are due to incompatibility issues between Mountain Lion and camera firmware's data-transfer protocols...
Have any of you encountered similar problems?
    Daniele

Hey Daniele - I am in the *exact* same boat as you - RAW transfers work a little, and then EOS Utility freezes.  I hope someone has a solution!

  • Lightroom and Photoshop Elements 12 transfer/sharing problem'

I'm new to Adobe Lightroom 5 and Photoshop Elements 12.   I open a Lightroom image in Photoshop Elements 12 by using Photo-->Edit In--> PSE12.  I make a change in PSE12, and then "save."  I understand that I'm supposed to overwrite the default file name.  But, when I go back to LR, my PSE changes are not saved.  What am I doing wrong?

I noticed the same problem when I upgraded to elements 12 in december. Also using LR 5.3 on mac running 10.8.5. When using the save command in PSE usually the saved file was not visible in LR. I posted in the forum then without any positive responses. As I worked the problem myself  I noticed that when saving from PSE if I used the "save as" command instead of the "save" command and then answered in the affirmative to overwrite the existing file the edits would save back to LR without fail. I have been using this technique for the last 6 weeks or so and haven't had any edits fail to return to LR. I have no idea why this would fix the problem as all the instructional material says not to use the save as command. I suspect it is a bug in PSE12 but because it's "only" elements no one at adobe is paying any attention. Anyway, try that and see if it solves your problem. It worked for me although I can't explain why.

  • Lightroom v1.2 and canon raw

I am a new user of lightroom have had it for only a week, have just purchased a 40D imported my first lot of raw files without any problems. Removed images from Cf card and took more photos went to import them into lightroom and all that happens is I get a message "no photos were found to import". I have read that canon raw was not supported in lightroom or has this been rectified in v1.2 as it did import the first batch of photos.
Can some one enlighten me on what may have occurred.
    thank you Peter

Peter, You may have selected "Auto reset" in the "File numbering" item of the camera's set-up menu, in which case it will start numbering the images from 1 again after re-inserting the CF card. • Problem with Lightroom and Epson Printer

I'm suddenly having problems printing from Lightroom. I have Lightroom 1.4.1 installed on an iMac G5, and have an Epson Photo Stylus R2400. I've been using this combination from the beginning with no problems. Now suddenly when I try to print I get an error message that says Media is out or not loaded correctly. Neither is the case. I have tried restarting my computer, the printer and everything else I can think of, but nothing works. I can print from any other application without problems, so I'm assuming it's an issue with Lightroom.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? I was going to uninstall lightroom and do a reinstall but I can't find my installation disc. Now I'm at a loss to figure out what to do.
    Thanks,
    Craig

Try deleting you prefs file and/or print templates.
Lightroom is unique to many other programs in that it saves and restores printer settings. Some bad data may tried to be passes. A "fresh start" might help.
