Lightroom 3 and MacBook 13"/MacBook Air?

I use Lightroom 3 and travel constantly with my 15" MacBook Pro.  The 15" is quite heavy and I'm looking to downsize to a 13".  My on road work is primarily limited to downloading, importing, backing up and converting to DNG, no heavy developing or Photoshop work which happens later on my studio Mac.  Question: is the 13" (with max memory and SSD) a viable option?  Is the MacBook Air a silly thought?

I was on the road for 6 weeks (SE Asia, Australia, NZ). I bought the MacAir just for the trip. I found the MacAir to be the best compromise (ie no perfect solution), and I was coming from a long PC background.  I was able to work on  versions of my images while travelling (Lightroom and Photoshop), keep blogs and web sites updated, web and email access etc..  Most importantly, it was the engine for keeping my data backed up.
My recommendation.
1. If data collected will fit on the Mac Air then MacAir plus 1 x USB disk backup.
2. If data collected is greater than available space on MacAir, then Mac Air plus 2 USB disks.
I started with option 1 and moved to option 2 somewhere around mid trip.I always kept one disk at least separate from the MacAir in case of theft, disaster of some kind, etc.
Also, MacAir has ssd drive, so reduced risk of failure.
I also sometimes (depending on the nature of the trip) use a Hyperdrive Colourspace UDMA unit and installed an SSD. In the field I can back up my Compact Flash cards to the Hyperdrive (ie 1 button hardware based backup to a fast solid state device, low power consumption).  When I get back to hotel or office, all my cards are on the Hyperdrive.  I can plug in a USB cable and I have a superfast means of copying my data onto my base system (or to my Mac Air in the hotel at nighttime).  Also, I do not have to copy cards individually (if more than one), but can copy them all with a single click.  You can automate further with Lightroom or other tools.
If volume of data small, then use Dropbox or equivalent service.

    Adobe - Lightroom : For Macintosh
    Just download and install 5.7.1. Don't worry about earlier versions.
    You'll need to enter your serial number to license the software.

    how can i stream video and audio from macbook air to my tv?

    Wirelessly: you need an AirPlay - enabled device such as an AppleTV.
    Wired: if your TV has an HDMI port, you need a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter such as this one:
    Mini DisplayPort to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
    If your TV does not have an HDMI port you will need a converter that will convert HDMI input to whatever input your TV requires.

    Try resetting your modem. Power it down. Wait a moment, then power it up again. While it resets, do not change what is connected to it.
    In another, though unrelated article, Apple recommends the following:
    If you have configured your Wi-Fi base stations in the past, it may be helpful to do a factory default reset of each Wi-Fi base station that will be part of the wireless extended network before you begin.
    This step really ought not be considered optional for the configuration you propose. If the problem persists after resetting your modem, reset everything else too.

    Hi Kaj,
         firstly this is a user to user forum so it's not our website, nevertheless I'm sure we can help you.
    Firstly, are the serial numbers you're using for the same version of Lightroom?
    If they are, then I'd suggest copying the serial numbers straight from your profile on the Adobe website to the Lightroom screen rather than retyping.  It's easy to mistype even when you're sure you're not (we've had several such instances in the past).
    Can you five us the exact wording of the error message (or a screen grab as long as it doesn't reveal the serial numbers as this a public forum)?

  • I purchased Lightroom on my old Macbook but recently updated to a Mac with Retina display for editing my photos. I don't want to purchase Lightroom again and want to keep my catalog I have been using. Is there a way to access it on my new computer?

    I purchased Lightroom on my old Macbook but recently updated to a Mac with Retina display. How do I access Lightroom on my new computer without purchasing it again?

    If you created a new Apple ID, you have to purchase the app again. If you can still use the old ID, then you can download it again for free by using that ID. But you will run the risk of locking yourself out of your new Apple ID for 90 days by downloading the app with your old ID and associating the iPad with the old ID.
    Is the risk of locking yourself out of your new Apple ID worth not having to pay $.99 again for an app?

  • TS3276 I have installed OS X Mavericks on macbook pro, macbook air & iMac but I am having terrible trouble with apple Mail. I need to take all accounts online frequently OR worse I have to quit mail and restart computer. Is anyone else having problems?

    I have installed OS X Mavericks on macbook pro, macbook air & iMac but I am having terrible trouble with apple Mail. I need to take all accounts online frequently OR worse I have to quit mail and restart computer. Is anyone else having problems?

    I just checked to see if the update to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 solved any of the issues outlined in my previous post, and to my dismay, nothing has changed -- all of the previous problems persist.
    My iMac (8) -- it's renamed itself eight times since the recent troubleshoot with the Apple tech rep -- shows up as a shared device in Finder on my MacBook Pro, but when I click on it, I cannot establish a connection using "Connect As".  So I've attempted to connect using the menu "Go/Connect to Server...", using both (alternately) the iMac's name and IP address, to no avail.  I get a message which reads: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'Peter's iMac (8)'. This server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time.  Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
    Here's what I know:
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) does exist;
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) is available at this time;
    The server name -- Peter's iMac (8) -- is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
    The server IP address is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
    The network connection is active when I attempt to connect.
    I'm convinced the problems stem directly from the OS X Yosemite update.  None of this was ever remotely an issue in the previous OS X's -- any of them.  This is maddening!  What can be done?  Apple?? Anyone???
