Lightroom 3 does not recognise my AVCHD video

My Panasonic camera records AVCHD video (.mts or .m2ts). Lightroom 3 does not recognise this as video. I would like to be able to download and catalogue with LR3. Is there any way around this?
Paul

Thanks.  The Any File plugin lead me to the Jeffrey Friedi's Plugin:

Installed and working - looks good.

  • Lightroom does not recognise Canon EOS350D

I can import pictures from my Canon 350D using the supplied Canon EOS Utility, but I cannot import direct to Lightroom - it pops up a mesage stating no device is connected.  I have to get the pictures (RAW + jpeg) onto my computer using the EOS Utility software, then import to Lightroom from disk.
I know that people recommend card readers, but I don't have one and don't wish to buy and carry one around. My laptop only accepts SD cards, not CF. I'm sure that importing directly from the camera is supposed to work, so why doesn't it?
I've installed the WIA driver and RAW codec for the camera, and I can import jpegs diectly into Windows or Photoshop Elements - it's just LR that won't recognise it. It does recognise my compact camera (Canon digital Ixus 75).
    Lightroom 2.3
    Windows Vista SP2 (32 bit)
    Canon EOS 350D

Glad you can now download from the camera, even if not at full feature.
But I stand by my remarks re the advantages of a card reader: It removes a whole layer of 'stuff' that can go wrong when one reads from the camera directly. A change in the O/S, including an update, not necessarily an upgrade, or a firmware update for the camera can suddenly thrust one back to the problems you've encountered. Plus juggling the camera, power cord, extra switch throwing on the camera, make direct camera-computer a hassle for me. Plus I always change cards after a shoot, so I have a backup of the images until I reuse the card (by always reformatting) on the next shoot.
I hope this is helpful, and yes, Sean, you had it right....

  • Lightroom does not recognise D700 pictures, CS3 does

I have tried to put my Nikon D700 pictures in Lightroom but get a message saying the files are damaged or unsupported, they behave completely normally in Bridge and Photoshop so they are presumably both supported and not damaged. Any ideas?

    > I can understand the policy from software developers point of view, but I still don't like it
Then you don't understand how code works...once a new version of code, for a new version starts, it's a branch from the old version code and new development starts from this new code base. The old code is ended...meaning that the old code just stops where it was and the new code is moved forward with new additions, features, etc. This new code is what is tested against and new functionality is added that can not be written back to the old code.
What you are expecting is for Adobe to run parallel developments so new stuff is added to the new code and old code is also updated. Do you realize how much more work that would be? That dual development would require engineering man-hours. It would take dev time from the new code while maintaining the old code. Considering there are NEW customers using the NEW version and the old version is no longer sold, you are expecting a company to support code that is no longer being sold and no longer creating revenue. That just ain't gonna happen, not with a publicly traded company whose share holders expect at least the appearance that the company is in business to return something to their shareholders.
Your expectations are simply unrealistic. Adobe has a responsibility to its customers, yes...the customers who are buying the CURRENT version of the software. Lightroom 1 shipped in Feb 2007. There were 4 (actually because of release problems there were 6) updates that were free to current users. When Lightroom 2 shipped and had paying customers, Adobe's responsibilities switched to the 2.0 customers. 1.0 customers can still run their versions...Adobe doesn't take anything away from them except for continued development support.
And that support for current customers is being shown in the Lightroom 2.1 RC update...
Adobe does offer a backwards compatibility capability for new cameras that come out after an older version's support is ended...it's called the DNG Converter, which is free and will be continually developed into the future. Note, Adobe doesn't HAVE to do this...to allow people with older unsupported versions to keep using their software even with new cameras. Course, most people who are complaining don't seem to appreciate this effort. Go figure...

Lightroom 5.7.1, Yosemite OS X - Synchronise Folder function doesn't work in Lr.
Is there a compatibility issue? I can see the folders/images in Finder but when trying to synchronise folders in Lr it does not recognise that there are any images and therefore unable to import to catalogue. Anyone has any idea how to make it work. Thanks a lot.

    Hi Elba,
Thank you very much for your reply. Not sure, however, that we are talking about the same problem.
I am trying to perform the same function in Lr that I have been doing for many years in the past and has only been a problem in the last few days (possibly coinciding with upgrading to Yosemite, trying to find out whether that is the problem)
I am not intending to sync any files with Creative Cloud but only trying to use 'Synchronize Folder' function in Lr. Normally, I would right click on a particular folder in Lr catalogue and click on that function to check that the Lr Catalogue is perfectly matching my drives where the original photos are actually stored.
The problem that I only started to encounter is that I can see the files on the actual drives but they do not appear in my Lr Catalogue and they are completely invisible to Lr. I simply can not get Lr to recognise them and then import them to catalogue.
If for example, I export images to Ps and then save and close them, they do appear on my drive but are invisible to Lr and I can't get them imported into the catalogue. Import to folder also not producing any results as they are still invisible to Lr.
Completely baffled by it. Any idea what could be the reason?
    Kind regards,
    Nik

Sometimes this happens, because the camera is not properly charged. In that case connect the camera to a charger or use a card reader.

  • Exported my video from Elements 12 but Powerpoint does not recognise the video file. How can we do it?

Exported my video from Elements 12 - format mp4 but Powerpoint does NOT recognise the video file. Why?

.wpl appears to be a Windows Media Player playlist. I can find no conversion software for that, and Windows Media Player is not available for Mac anymore.
If you can persuade him to download iTunes and create the playlist as mp3 in a iTunes playlist, or even just burn the base mp3 files to CD as a data disc, that's about the only solutions I can suggest.

i dont even understand what this means, please help!!!!!!!!!!!! thanx xxxx

Well the report just tells basics of your setup and errors going on in short. Error -128 means either you or iTUnes cancelled the burn before it even started.
Your issue tho is you have no lower filter. you should have 2, and upper filter and a lower filter. Now Im not that good with the filter thing just yet, but I think if you reinstall itunes it will install the lower filter you need.
You will want to remove itunes AND quicktime in the control panel>Add/remove. Dis able any antivirus/security programs so they do not interferr with iTUnes and then download and install the latest iTunes from www.apple.com

  • Audio recording on a flash. recommended to download vlc media player did this. tried to play messages says quicktime does not recognise this format. what to do pleaser

RECIEVED AN AUDIO RECORDING ON A FLASH. PLUGGED IT IN. DOWNLOADED VLC MEDIA PLAYER AS RECOMMEMDED. TRIED TO PLAY.
MESSAGE RECEIVED SAYING QUICKTIME DOES NOT RECOGNISE THIS FORMAT. WHAT TO DO PLEASE.

You could add Perian.  It may help (...or not).
Wait, you received and audio recording and you are trying to use a video player (vlc) to play it?  What kind of file is it?  Does it have a filename extension?  If it is .wmv then you might want to install Flip4Mac.  Then you could play it with QuickTime.

hello everyone. I have recently installed a Samsung SSD (solid state hard drive) into my destop PC. For some reason Lightroom does not see it ? So i cannot ingest photos from it, or copy photos from a card to it. It is not listed as a drive option. LR sees every other drive. My computer sees it fine, so i was able to create a catalogue there. Im running windows 8.1. Any ideas ? I will also add that this drive became corrupt and was repaired by Samsung. Maybe they didn't do a very good job.. ..

Yes pretty much that, but to clarify sorry
    Opened Lightroom.
    Create new catalogue.
This opened the Windows 8 file explorer window and Windows recognises the drive. So I was able to create a catalogue there and save.
I then inserted my memory card into my card reader which LR recognised. I selected it, chose all the photos within and then navigated to the right side of the Lr import dialogue window to locate this problem drive as on this occasion i want the RAW files on the same drive as the lrcat. However all my other drives are listed but not this Samsung SSD.
In addition this Samsung SSD is not listed a drive to import from in the same dialogue window.

  • Prem 8.0.1 does not recognise DV camera

Adobe Premier Elements 4.0 and 8.0.1
    Windows XP SP3, AMD 5600+, 4G RAM, 1394 connection
NVidea GeForce GT 240 video card, latest driver updates
    Sony TRV-240 Dig8 Camera
Sony camera is recognised by Windows My Computer, AVS Video Recorder and Windows Media Encoder with capture capability.
Premier only recognises camera as "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR" and does not capture.
How to get Premier to recognise camera and capture video?

Re: prem 8.0.1 does not recognise DV camera
created by A.T. Romano in Premiere Elements - View the full discussion
    omni60
Premiere Elements 4 or 8.0/8.0.1 on Windows XP 32 bit.....Yes
Are you set up with a FireWire (iLINK) connection for this DV Data capture?
Yes, as indicated by the 1394 connection statement.
From the screenshot, it appears that you only have 77 GB free space at the save location for the DV data capture. Can you point the Captured Video and Captured Audio to another save location with more free hard drive space?
Have moved to 300GB free space. no success.
Is this a "it worked before but not now" or "it never worked before" for Premiere Elements 4 or 8.0/8.0.1?
worked a few years ago marginally probably on Prem Elem 4.0.  Have rolled-back NVIDIA drivers to 296.10 dated 14 June 2012 with no success
As background if needed, please review the following Adobe document on Capture
    http://help.adobe.com/fr_FR/premiereelements/using/WS5CDA0F91-60F1-4b7 9-ABF6-E9E75F498DB2.html#WS2AF26FB5-4C63-4c46-9DB3-7249558F6528
Although it targets newer versions, the principles should be applicable to Premiere Elements 4 and 8.0/8.0.1.
    Have read, no fixes.
Please review and consider and then we can decide what next.
Have removed NVIDIA card and am using on-board DVI port. Prem 8.0 still reports "Microsoft Dv Camera" and not Sony as other programs do. What causes Prem Elem to not report Sony DV camcorder?
    Thank you, will keep trying.

  • Elements does not recognise prel file

I saved a project to DVD (photos with background music) Elements does not recognise "prel" file when trying to reload project. How do i open file in Premiere Elements 10

    Chris (Herbie53)
There was no Premiere Elements 5 and 6. The version numbers went 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 (latest) So you probably use Premiere Elements 4 or maybe 7 on probably Windows 32 bit XP or Vista.
Case 1. (Here we assume that you have the project.prel file (project) saved to a DVD disc as data disc.)
Even if you had saved that older Premiere Elements project file (project.prel) along with copies of the media that went into it, it is still questionable whether that old project.prel could be opened in Premiere Elements 12. But, assuming that the media was still connected to it (which it probably is not), you could try by right clicking the project.prel file and selecting Open With Premiere Elements 12. Have you gone that route, and the project would not open or you were greeted by "Where is the file...?" messages.
Case 2. (Here we assume that, when you were using the the older program, you took the project Timeline to DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc...this is not the project.prel file, but an export of it.)
In this situation, if you put your DVD disc in the burner tray and explored it, you would see two folders, one named OpenDVD and another named VIDEO_TS. This is your best case scenario. If this is the case.....
    a. Put your DVD disc in the burner tray.
    b. Open Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace. Go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings.
In Change Settings, set the project preset for either NTSC DV Standard or NTSC DV Widescreen. For now, we will assume NTSC DV Standard. Then, before you exit that area, in the last dialog that you see (new project dialog), make sure you have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project".
    c. Next, back in the Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace, use Add Media/DVD Camera or Computer Drive/Video Importer where you will select video files from the VIDEO_TS Folder to bring into the Premiere Elements 12 project. You will have to redo the menu in 12. The video files that you want from the VIDEO_TS Folder typically start with VTS_01_1.VOB and continue in series which can be detailed later.
Goal right now is to sort through the details so that we are in sync on what you have in order to enable us to be confident about the troubleshooting strategy.
We will be watching for your comments and results.
    Thanks.

Add On.....The classical recommendation has always been to complete a project in the program in which it was created. But let us see what can be done here.

Lightroom does not automatically find images that have been moved within same parent folder/drive...I moved my catalog and photos to shared drive so that all users can access and when I moved photos within parent folder lightroom did not automatically adjust like in video I watched.  I had to manually locate.  Is there a fix for this?

I haven't watched that video, but if you move photos in your operating system ... Lightroom does NOT automatically find these photos. Finding photos that have been moved is NOT a feature of Lightroom. So, there is no fix for this.
You would have to tell Lightroom where the photos are now located, as explained in the link from 99jon
If you must move photos, move them inside of Lightroom, not in your operating system, or better yet — don't move them, and use Lightroom tools such as keywords and other metadata to achieve organization.

  • IDVD Onestep does not recognise camcorder

Hi, I am really hoping someone can help, I'm trying to copy from my video camera (Panasonic SDR-S26) to a DVD using iDVD's Onestep, however the program does not recognise the camera, therefore I can't get anywhere. Could this be because I have it connected with a USB instead of firewire? or is there some other reason? Any suggestions would be helpful.
    Thanks in advance.

I have a similar problem but the device not recognized DOES produce a DV signal going out over a firewire or DV cable ... The device is the Sony GV-D200 Digital8 video recorder which can play and convert to DV format tapes in the 8, high 8, and digital8 formats . One Step DOES control the device to rewind it to the start of the tape but then says there is no movie found at the point where it would normally start the vidcam and start playing the movie for processing .
The GV-D200 Digital8 video recorder should appear to be a video camera to any device receiving the dv signal over the dv cable or firewire . Frustrating because one step is ideal for me IF I can just set it up , start it and then go away for 4-5 hours while it inches its' way through the process ...one archived video in 8 or digital8 put to DVD every night ...IF I could get iDVD One Step DVD to recognize the dv signal coming from the GV-D200 Digital8 video recorder <<--- which is essentially the same as the guts of the early high end Sony digital 8 cameras that would play all three types of recorded tapes but only recorded in digital8 .....

  • Facebook does not recognise iMovie file type

Hi all. I have successfully downloaded videos to Facebook this year, but have just upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard and something appears to have changed.
When I try to "Share" onto Facebook, the Facebook interface does not recognise the movie type. I also notice that instead of each project showing in the "Movie Events" file as a thumbnail of the opening frame, it sits as an iMovie Icon, albeit with the project name.
I have successfully uploaded to Vimeo, so my question is: has something changed in iMovie after the upgrade to make the "project" indigestable to Facebook?

    GR-Blitz,
You can see a few ways of doing it in this thread:
