Lightroom 3 doesn't recognise Nikon Lenses, until you tell it Nikon is Manufacturer

Does anyone know why / if there is a fix for this problem. I shoot a Nikon D3S/D3X. Lightroom won't recognise my lenses in the Lens Correction area of Develop. It only recognises them after I put in Nikon as the manufacturer.
Surely the Lightroom software is clever enough to recognise Nikon cameras?
For info am running the 64bit version of Lightroom on a Windows 7 64 bit system.

Oh, it's plenty clever. The problem is that Nikon is also very clever, and cleverness sometimes ends up creating problems.
The fundamental problem is that not all vendors place metadata like the make in the expected places in the image file, so Lr has to resort to many tricks for getting this information reliably. If it cannot reliably get the info, it opts to not guess, as this would be much worse behaviour.
I suspect the "maker notes" metadata in the files made by this camera body aren't quite expected, so once you confirm it is a Nikon, then it can figure out the rest. You can confirm this by supplying an example image by yousendit and others can inspect the metadata to see how it is being stored.
One workaround is to massage these files with a metadata tool to edit the make information into the expected locations prior to importing.
You may also want to raise this with Adobe support, as they might be able to tweak the cleverness to take into consideration Nikon's cleverness.

When I plug my Canon 5Dii into Lightroom, the camera has a flashing 'busy' notice and Lightroom doesn't recognise the camera even though my computer confirms 5D is conected. I had this issue on my previous computer at first and I can't remember how I resolved it.

  • Trial version of Lightroom doesn't recognise my creative cloud membership!

I downloaded the trial version of lightroom and then joined creative cloud.  Now everytime I launch lightroom it asks me to register.  How do I get lightroom to recognise that I have creative cloud membership?

Thanks for your quick reply.  I run creative cloud on a mac with latest operating system.  I have removed lightroom (by putting it into trash) but when I try to download through adobe download manager lightroom doesn't appear in the adobe download manager screen despite Lightroom being available to download in the apps screen.  Any further advice you could offer would be very welcome.  Thanks.

For that Nikon model you need ACR 8.3 that means CS6 or CC.  Or you can download the DNG converter convert your Nikon RAW files to Adobe RAW files. And then process the Adobe RAW files with CS5 ACR version  6.7

Lightroom doesn't recognize mine camera, the Nikon D800 E to shoot tethering. There is no problem with mine laptop. Can you help me with this issue?

Sure the laptop know's that the Nikon D800E is connected, but lightroom doesn't recognise this camera. Two weeks a go it wasn't a problem at all.

  • Lightroom 4.3 doesn't recognise and import my Canon 1100D files

My copy of Lightroom 4.3 all of a sudden doesn't recognise and import my Canon 1100D camera raw files.

Could you workaround by importing the raw files then immediately export them as DNG while using Add to This Catalog from the export dialog?
Then remove the raw files from the catalog if you wish?

  • HT5096 New TM doesn't recognised backups on the old TM clone - can you help?

Using the helpful advice on this discussion board, I partitioned my new drive, then cloned the existing TimeMachine drive onto the smaller partition and set the larger partition as my new Time Machine drive in TM preferences. I then backed up and it worked fine.
However my problem is that it is not recognising the prior backups in the other partition which I thought it would.
    Can I fix this?
If not, and if I wanted to access the older Time machine info, could I just change the TM drive in preferences to the other partition and access it that way?
    Thanks

That setup is a mess. If you want an easy access to your old data, just make one volume with all the Time Machine backups, so your Mac will be backed up in the same volume as your old data.
Anyway, you have already done that. You can access to your old Time Machine backup by two ways:
    1. Setting up Time Machine to back up on the volume with your old backups, and then, just access to Time Machine app in order to access to the old data.
    2. Manually: open Finder, select the volume with your old backups in the Finder sidebar and navigate through your backups until you find the data you want to recover.
Try the first one, and remember to change the Time Machine backup disk after accessing to your old data. If not, your Mac will back up to the volume with the old backups

    For older Macs that aren't supported in Firefox 4.0, try TenFourFox for PowerPC's running Mac 10.4.11 & 10.5.8 . <br />

  • Windows doesn't recognise I-pod, "hardware not found"

    Hi all,
I've looked on many different sites including this forum, but can't find an answer to my problem. I've tried to connect my new I-pod classic 80gb to my computer (windows XP) but it doesn't recognise it. The computer gets as far as the "found new hardware" window. It will then try to install the ipod, but can't find a driver for it. It says "the wizard cannot find the necessary software". If I go into the Computer Management the Ipod is visible, but with a question mark icon beside it.
The ipod connects to my husband's pc without trouble! His pc is older than mine. I can't work out why it won't work on my pc. Needless to say the ipod doesn't show up in i-tunes, either.
I would be very grateful for any help! Thanks in advance.

Try resetting the ipod first, it`s in the menue list at the bottom.
Remove and reconnect the plug into the ipod.
Boot up the PC wait until stable.
Connect USB connector to a different USB port than the one you have been using.
Check for the safely remove hardware icon in the row of icons near the clock icons.
If still not working I would suspect a corrupted windows file or the regestry files need cleaning up if you are confident to do it.
The easy way if you think it was worth it is to reset your PC to factory settings but this would mean copying your personal files to a disc or a external drive.Reloading loads of windows patches. It takes 2-3 hours, it`s a pain but it should get you over your problem.
Even easier take your PC and IPOD to a computor repair person and get them to sort it, at a price of course.

  • Apple tv update failed. iTunes doesn't recognise the TV

Well Apple has ruined my night. The update failed and I've tried to restore it via iTunes but even when it is plugged in, iTunes doesn't recognise it. Anyone have any answers on how to restore this?

Thanks very much. I followed everything you said, made sure I didn't plug the power in until I'd connected the USB cable, plugged the power in, the Mac made the USB connected sound and then I opened iTunes. It is still not there. I've got a feeling this will be a long trip to the Apple Store

  • ITunes freezes and doesn't recognise iPhone

Hi, I've got an issue with my iPhone 3G running on iOS 4.0.1. Everytime I connect it to my PC (running on Windows 7 32-bit), iTunes freezes for a few minutes and doesn't recognise the device. I've been searching for the solution for a couple of days now and have found the following thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1141495&start=75&tstart=0
Fix provided by BeeBopp work for me but only until I reboot my PC. Then I have the same situation - having iPhone connected to PC, iTunes freezes and doesn't recognise the device - so I need to go to Device Manager and update the drivers manually even though they seem to have been installed correctly (I have Apple Mobile Device on my list before I update the drivers), but I need to point Windows to use the drivers from
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers\usbaapl.inf
    I have already tried:
-completely removing iTunes and its configuration files
-reinstalling iTunes (the newest available version)
-removing iPhone from the devices list and reinstalling Apple drivers
Nothing works - everytime I reboot PC, I need to update drivers manually.
Do you have any idea what's causing that? Thanks

  • I have Lightroom 1.4.1 and I just started shooting the Nikon D700.  I cannot get Lightroom to read my new raw files, help...

I have Lightroom 1.4.1 and I just started shooting the Nikon D700.  I cannot get Lightroom to read my new raw files, help...  Is there a plug in or update I can get?  I can't afford new software after new camera and new lense!

Lightroom 1.4.1 does not support native (NEF) files from the D700 because the camera didn't even exist when it was released. To get support you have two options: upgrade to Lr 2.x (paid for upgrade) or convert your NEF files to DNG.
DNG converter 5.4 can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/ (see right hand side of page)

  • Lightroom 4.3 is applying the wrong Camera Calibration profile Nikon D600

Running Lightroom 4.3 on my Mac, I have my D600 set to shoot using "Camera Neutral" profile. However, upon import into LR, for some reason, it changes to "Adobe Standard" profile. I can change it to camera neutral, but it's a pain. Any other users experiencing this?

The camera settings, other than White-Balance, are ignored by Lightroom since it does its down conversions with its own settings and doesn’t really have any way of duplicating what Nikon does since they are distinct corporations, each with their own intellectual property not shared with outsiders, so it’s best not to even bother with camera settings if you are going to be using Lightroom and learn what the Lightroom settings mean, instead.
As already stated, Adobe doesn’t really know what Nikon means by the in-camera Camera Neutral, but it has reverse-engineered something somewhat analogous that is also called Camera Neutral in the LR’s Camera Calibration section.
If you always want Camera Neutral as your starting point for LR adjustments, then set it as the new default by importing a new image with all the LR-default settings, change the Camera Calibration area’s Profile to Camera Neutral, then Press and Hold the Alt/Option key and click the Set Defaults button.
You can also make a Develop Preset that sets whatever profile you want and apply it to either the selected set of images or to all images in a particular Import.

  • After updating os to 10.9.1can't open pdf files.  I get a message saying It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognise. I can still read older saved files but no new ones arriving by email.  Any help would be appreciated.

After updating os to OSX 10.9.1 I can't open any new pdf files.  I get a message saying It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognise. I can still read older saved files but no new ones arriving by email.  Also can't attach a pdf to an email to send out.  Any help would be appreciated.

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.
