Lightroom 3 export with file limit

Hi,
exporting to jpg with file limit set to 399KB sometimes produces larger files up to 450KB. Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug? Need this file limit to upload the files on a website with limitation to 400KB.
Thanks
Gerald

It's a bug. The file size limit seems to be fixed in 3.2RC but if you choose both file size limit and watermark, the watermark won't show up.

boom! that advice was correct and worked. i was able to export the full project as a quicktime movie and it can be uploaded to youtube.
NOTE, theres is definately quite a few noticeable audio glitches/lags/pops that werent there before doing this. I believe, and will test to make sure, that having a project such as this one needs to render before exporting. I'm not sure if the advice requires the project to be unrendered before exporting for a specific reason, because if it will export fine after rendering the project that's the way to go. like i said the edited version i have in my timeline plays back perfectly but this exported version has quite a few noticeable audio glitches (a few video glitches too). I'm going to retry doing the first few steps of your advice, but then at the end render, then export and compare the results...
OK, so this leads to a big question, Is this something that is standard for everyone when trying to export? If its not, what causes this error?
is there any way of preemptively avoiding it in future projects?
thanks again, and hopefully this information will help others as exporting seem to be one of the biggest problems in fcpx. any word on a new patch or firmware update?

  • Lightroom 5 exporting wrong file sizes?

I am having trouble with Lightroom 5 exporting images at incorrect file sizes. For example, if I use my export preset for images with long edge 2500 pixels and maximum size 1000k it is exporting images at 1500-2500k.
Is anyone else experiencing this? I am wondering if it is a bug.
    Thanks

I never had a problem with it in LR4. The example I gave was one of many options I tried. At the other end I asked it to produce smaller files (eg 1500pixels long edge) with a 1000k maximum and I could only get them to output at around 160k.
I have since realised that I neglected to mention that I was using LR/Mogrify2 plug in to add a text graphic to the images. I experimented with turning that option off and I was able to produce a 2500px long edge file at 996k. As soon as I turn that option on again the file ouptuts at 1600k (where I have specified at 1000k limit).
This was never a problem with LR4 so there is a conflict or a bug somewhere.
Is anyone else using a LR / Mogrify 2 plug in and experiencing unpredictable results? I have the option to use LR / Mogrify 2's version of ImageMagick checked.
    Message was edited by: Shipp
So I just did further testing. It seems that LR5 cannot control the maximum file size when working with Lr / Mogrify 2. If I ask the plug in to resize the image and control the maximum file size I can produce a file with long edge 2500pix, 1000k maximum size and the text graphic with no problem at all, as I used to be able to do with LR4. I will contact the plug in developer and see if they are aware of this.

  • Lightroom 5 exports with a significant change

    Hi guys.
Okay, so after tons of hours trying to fix a problem that just does not seem to fix - and I have tried pretty much everything.
I just updated to Lightroom 5.6 - and I had the same bug on Lightroom 4 as well. Not on every picture, but it wasn't the first time experiencing this.
So here is the deal. So when I am done in Photoshop, I import my pictures to Lightroom to give it it's final touch. But when I export them, I see a clear difference - and not in a good way!
It seems like that there is no change at all. NR - definitely not, the picture look over sharpened and the colors have changed too. And then they get lighter and the quality is humongous. The images looks way flatter too. I have attached my image right under, so you can see the differences.
This is a screenshot I took in LR. It looks all fine - no problems.
This is the exported JPEG from LR.
So I tried some research in hope for solving my problem. Seems like I was not the only one having problems - and it also looked like it was a little bit of different things going on. And there was some solutions, but I never really found anything that answered my question. But I tried exporting it in all kinds of files and different color profiles. Nothing worked.
I use the normal Image Viewer on Mac. When I open it, it changes just one second after in the viewer. I then tried to import it into LR again to check if it really was LR that caused the problem. It was. I tried uploading it too. Nothing worked either.
So now I am stuck with the problem and pretty much desperate to get some help.
Please, can someone tell me what the problem is and does anyone have the solution?
    Thank you!

    Yes.

  • Lightroom export - original file with Lightroom modification data

    Hello, hello!
I have imported a folder of, for arguments sake, some JPEGs, TIFFS, and DND photos into Lightroom, leaving the files in place, and just linking them to the Lightroom Catalogue's Library. I have then made a whole load of 'modifications' to the photos in Lightroom (the data for these modifications is stored in the Lightroom Catalogue file, right?).
Can I now export some of the photos from Lightroom so that the file that comes out is in the same/different file format (e.g. JPEG/TIFF/DNG) and have the Lightroom modification data embedded (perhaps in the EXIF data) of the exported file? Can I then open this with a 'normal' program and have it show the original? Can I then open this with Lightroom/Photoshop (?) and it show the original with the modification data applied?
    Thanks a lot! :-))

Can I now export some of the photos from Lightroom so that the file that comes out is in the same/different file format (e.g. JPEG/TIFF/DNG) and have the Lightroom modification data embedded (perhaps in the EXIF data) of the exported file?
Yes, but you should not export. Just hit Ctrl/Cmd+S to Save Metadata. the metadata will be embedded into the files. Note that the actual image will not be altered. That is, if you view the jpeg in an external viewer you will not see the adjustments made in Lightroom. Only Adobe products can interpred those.
Can I then open this with a 'normal' program and have it show the original?
    Yes.
Can I then open this with Lightroom/Photoshop (?) and it show the original with the modification data applied?
Yes. When you open in Photoshop and it's a non-RAW file (e.g. JPEG or TIFF), there's an option somewhere in Camera RAW to be used for opening non-RAWs. The point is, those have to pass through Camera RAW, rather than opened directly in Photoshop, for metadata to be interpreted properly.

  • Lightroom 5 doesn't export with a maximum long edge as instructed

What is going on with Lightroom 5?  I upgraded from 4 and now it doesn't export with a maximum long edge of 2166 pixels even though that is what it is being told to do.

    Hi Jim,
It fails to shorten to the maximum long edge requested, leaving longer-edged files in the exported folder.
Never had this problem with Lightroom4.  Just upgraded to 5.  My operating system is Windows Pro 8.
    Thank you for your time.

  • Exporting keywords with file

somewhere, much earlier, in this forum i asked how i could export my files with only assigned keywords. I DO NOT want the "parent" keyword. For example if GRANDMOTHER (parent) contains mary (child) I want only the mary exported.
I read that the answer is in the "edit keyword tags" dialog box but I cannot make it work for me.
    Lightroom 2.6, imac i7,8gb,system 10.6.2

That's how Aperture works anyway - only the keywords that you have actually added will be included in the IPTC data of exported files, parent keywords aren't included.

  • Major problem: I can not export NEF files from Lightroom

This is just plain weird: I can't export NEF files from Lightroom 2. I can export any other file format, but not NEF. With Lightroom 1 this was no problem.
It makes no difference whether I choose the export command with my mouse, via the menu or with a key stroke - nothing happens.
    Lightroom version 2.0
    Camera Raw version 4.5.0.175
    Camera Nikon D3
    Photoshop CS3 version 10.0.1
    MacOsX version 10.5.4
I've called Adobe, and they simply don't know. I have reinstalled Lightroom 2 with no succes. Restarting, repairing permissions, nothing helps.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
    Marsel

Marsel, your language is confusing, First, you cannot 'export' NEFs to PS. You can send a copy there from within LR as a tif or psd.
Exporting per se takes place through the Library module under the Export function. When Nef's are exported by choosing 'original' in the export dialogue, the file is the 'original' NEF accompanied by an XMP. That Nef, if opened directly in PS from your file system should appear in the Camera Raw window, where you can make whatever new edits on it you want or change the original adjustments you made in LR. Then, once you open that file in PS from the Camera Raw window, any further work you do will be pixel editing. That work can then be saved in a number of formats, but not as a NEF.
Transferring files to PS from LR for editing is another matter. That sends a copy of the original NEF, including LR adjustments to PS as either a Tiff or a PSD (your choice via the dropdown). After you have edited that Tiff or PSD in PS and hit save, it will send a copy back to LR as a Tiff or PSD, which will appear next to the original nef.
These procedures work perfectly on both my windows 32 and 64 bit machines with LR2 and 2.1. with all my NEFs from several camera models.
When you say 'export' do you really mean sending a copy to PS or do you mean 'Export' as LR defines that term?

  • Trying to export RAW originals from Aperature 3 to LightRoom 4: I choose File Export Originals. I think then Pictures LR. But then I can't find files in LR library.Files seem stuck in Pictures as NEF

Trying to export RAW originals from Aperature 3 to LightRoom 4: I choose File>Export>Originals. Then Pictures>LR. But then I can't find files in LR library.Files seem stuck in Pictures as NEF and or DNG files. I know Im stuck on something dumb but I am stuck. Help?

You now need to import those files into Lightroom.
BTW, Lightroom uses a "referenced" system so your images will always be in the folders you download/copy them to. Lightroom is a database first and foremost, albeit with non-destructive editing capabilities (effectively Adobe Camera Raw).

  • Feature request : import/export .idea files with ITunes

I know that you wants to developp your own cloud system but a possibility to import or export idea files between the mac and the Ipad would be very usefull for me. Thanks

Yes Ma'am you are misunderstanding. In my case, because of a botched screen repare my ipad now has No wireless connectivity at all. The place that replaced the screen is over 70 miles away. Being as unlike Photoshop touch which has the option to sync projects through iTunes. I can not get the vectorized verzions of my Adobe Ideas projects off my device.
It really should be a simple update to the app. Which would be far cheaper for Adobe to implement, than me buying a new ipad. All my other apps that allow me to crreate content allow for itunes syncing of projects.
Then even if my ipad still had wireless connectivity some projects could easily be over the email size limit.
What would really be the ultimate answer to this issue would be on device syncing between Adobe Ideas and Photoshop touch. Just like can be done with Photoshop and Illustrator.
Adobe has to realise that the app market really is more profitable than their computer program market. Being as many many more people WILL pay the smaller price. Which opens up their market to way more customers. Add in the new ipad air's 64 bit architeture, and it's almost (almost not entirely) more advantagous to push the apps to full Adobe master collection status, and ability. It's almost a no brainer, being as it's much mich cheaper for anyone to get an ipad, a good palm canceling stylus and some apps. Than it is to buy a computer, a Cintiq, and Adobe master collection. Oh, but, if after going the cheaper route people got use to using and creating with the apps, they would be far more likely to then get all the more expensive counterparts. Though one has to see that by Wacom putting out their own tablets, the touch screen tablet market is the most cost effective and highest unit moving market.

  • How do I stop Illustrator automatically adding numbers to file name when exporting with artboard?

I need to export with artboard. Illustrator automatically adds a number to my original file name. It won't even let me replace the old file. It is extremely annoying and makes flow with other programs really hard because they can't auto update, since the file name  changes. When you have multiple files, you can't be manually renaming all the time. Anyone knows how to fix this? Thanks.

This has been discussed a few times, and here is a summary of the usual solutions.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2989508#2989508
What is it EXACTLY you are trying to do. Are you trying to export a single page from filename.ai  and make it filename.psd, (without any number afterwards). In that case you could delete the extra artboards prior to export, and then you won't have to checked use artbaords as there is only one page. Otherwise I would plan ahead so your end result will be filename-01.jpg,  filename-02.jpg, and then everytime you use export artbaords those names will replace.
I am happy with the function as is, and would prefer to have a serial number automatically after the name when checking use artboards. But sounds liek you and others desire more options and thte ability to turn off adding to the filename.

  • Why is it impossible to export a file with the same fidelity as the version iMovie itself plays for me?

My movie is a photo slideshow using Ken Burns effect throughout, using iMovie 09. It looks beautiful when I play the project directly from within iMovie, even when enlarged to fullscreen playback. Is there really no way to set the quality settings high enough to reproduce this level of quality in an exported file? It seems so, and I don't understand why. "Export to iDVD" is a joke--even with the best quality settings there is an incredible amount of moire patterns and jagged edges. Exporting to Quicktime is better, but still the comparison with the version played from within the application is very poor. I wouldn't care if my computer had to crunch all night to render a file (and my movie is only 12 minutes long), I would just like to be able to view it on other computers or DVD players at the original quality.
It seems to me that playing it from within iMovie should be *worse*, because iMovie is not only displaying the movie, it has to render it from scratch in realtime by zooming and panning on the photos. So an exported version (i.e. precalculated, prerendered) of the same quality would certainly be playable on a normal device like a DVD player.
Can anyone explain? Or (but I doubt it) could anyone tell me what I've missed, and explain how to export a pixel-for-pixel, frame-for-frame replication of what iMovie apparently effortlessly displays??

    montagular wrote:

a DVD is 720x480 and highly compressed.
… how to export a pixel-for-pixel, frame-for-frame replication of what iMovie apparently effortlessly displays??
video is compressed - otherwise, files are getting gargantual (a top-notch intermediate in FCPX is 40-120GBs per hour, a disk, for comparrison is 4GB/h).
    two options:
    • in the Export with Quicktime Option, you'll find a bit-rate setting - depending on your other settings (resolution, framerate, codec), 5-10.000 kbps should result in a superb result.
    • instead of a playback-optimized codec as usual h.264, you can give AppleAnimation a try - much larger files, but e.g. less banding. only for use on Macs.
to transfer lossless to iDVD, choose AppleIntermediate, which is iMovies internal codec.
.... but a disk with same quality as a computer HDef? Not possible.

  • Looking for some help with an error message when exporting master file. I'm stuck and would even pay to get this sorted out!

Hey guys, I'm really in a bind here and need some urgent help tonite. I would even be willing to pay for some actual help and not some vague information that i may not be able to understand if we could do something via skype or some other way that would be much quicker than a message board. Of course I have to have the project done by tomorow . so I'm new to fcpx, but have succesfully exported 2 other projects. I've also ran into this predicament before (error message not allowing me complete export) and have been able to solve that by converting the files i imported off my camera (canon g20) to a different file type (prores).
so where I'm at now: i have a 13 min short, all shot on my canon g20, imported and converted to prores422 with the brorsoft video converter with all the shots in a single event in fcpx. i'm using fcpx version 10.0.08. I have one main video track in my timeline that is completely full of very fast edits. (all quick 2-5 second clips, sped up shots in 2x, 4x, or 8x, tons of transitions, titles, and a little fx. theres 2 audio tracks, one is narration/speech and the other is an ongoing music track that constantly ducks everytime the subject speaks (tons of ducks/edits). Have you seen mtv cribs? Well i filmed an EXACT replica. So If you've seen one of those episodes, its literally the same exact same thing. I have all of my work completed, everything has been fully rendered, and i have it exactly as I want it.
I'm including all this information in case it may help. my successful projects ive exported in the past were rather simple, and this one is very complex and full of edits. here is what it looks like in the timeline:
Ive tried exporting the master file using almost all the different ways with no luck. My primary objective is to get it on youtube by any means by tommorow for a showing to a potential buyer (long story) and so I've been told using the h.264 is the best format for that. This, along with the other methods give me the same error message:
It think it gives this error message when i reach 24% everytime during export.
So first of all, what is that error message? Do i need to be concerned about the specifics of it, or is there something major that I'm missing? Like i said, i dont care how, but I need to get this video up on youtube tonite for an important viewing tomorrow. Conceptually, I think if i can figure this one out I shouldnt have any more trouble in the future doing something so basic, yet critical, such as exporting my 40+ hours of work for someone to see.
anyway, I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge with this software, and for my extremely long winded question which will probably have the opposite effect for me as most wont want to take the time to read all this, BUT i figured if i was as thorough as possible it might help actually getting a concrete answer, instead of a "read the manual, exporting is on page 37." or "use the share button on the right of the timeline then just click export master file and it will work everytime."
Cheers everybody, and thank you. Like i said if someone is up, and willing to talk via skype, phone, messanger or any other method that works for you I would be totally down and will compensate you generously for your time. thanks again.

Do you have a specific question about video production?
The forums are for individual technical or creative issues that users have with video production. I am sur someone will be able to help you, but and to get a response it is best to ask a specific question.
Is this about a technical problem you have or something about setting up a web site? If its the latter this is the wrong forum.

  • Quicktime no longer exporting my movies with file extensions

Hi all, QT is no longer exporting or saving movies with file extensions. The only way i can view extensions is to turn on all extensions in finder which means i get .app in my apps folder which i find looks naff, have i changed something to cause this?
    Cheers

In the export or save dialog windows is a check box to "hide" the file extension.
    Remove that check mark.
