Lightroom 3 Import error - I would like to upgrade to LR5

Hi there.
After importing into LR3, I get an error message that says:
Some import operations were not performed.
The following files could not be copied to the backup location.
Then there is a list of images (usually all of the photos imported).  This didn't always happen and I can't pinpoint exactly when it started.  My LR catalog and backups are stored on an EHD.
I am currently saving all of my metadata to files (just to be sure) and backing up my catalog so I can upgrade to LR5 (already purchased) but want to be sure my catalog is good before I do that.
LR3, Mac OS X 10.8.5
I know there are people here lots smarter than me so I'd love any advice or feedback you can give.  I've tried everything I know - checking my backup location and drive in LR window match up.
Thanks so much!
Sara

Thanks for your reply!
After backing up everything I knew how, I opened LR with my most recent back up and everything seemed to be in order so I held my breath and installed and opened my catalog in LR5.  It all worked!  Woohoo!  So I'm assuming it must have been some sort of glitch with my operating system and LR3...won't know I guess until I import again.
Thanks so much!  I'll check that if it doesn't work!

  • I currently have Lightroom 5.7 and would like to upgrade to CC, and am unsure about what I need to do.

Will I need to uninstall my current copy Lightroom, or will the CC upgrade take over and "fold" it?

Backup the Lightroom catalog, then uninstall your current install of Lightroom. (Do not delete the catalog or previews.) Install the the Adobe Creative Cloud app, log in with your Adobe id (after completing your subscription particulars) and install Lightroom using the CC app.
The existing Lightroom catalog will be compatible with the new install but any 3rd party plug-ins will need to be installed.

    Hello,
there are informations about your interests here: http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-lightroom-6-cc-direct-download-links.html >>> See: Importantly, this new version continues as a downloadable desktop product and is available either with a standalone perpetual license (called Lightroom 6) or via subscription (called Lightroom CC). It’s the same exact program and free trial download below, but the name is changed to reflect the differences in licensing and bundling, as well as the addition of integrated mobile apps & services and future feature updates.
From there you will find a download link.

When you install Lightroom 5, all of your presets (Develop module, metadata, print, etc…) will all get moved over to Lightroom 5 automatically.
You may want to search the forums about presets from LR 3 (PV2010) and PV2012, a place to start is http://forums.adobe.com/message/4224108 as there are major differences between the Process Versions.

  • I would like to upgrade my Macbook Pro Model A1278.

    Hi,
I would like to upgrade RAM and hard drive memory on my Macbook Pro Model A1278, but I'm not sure what is the maximum RAM I can install and what is the maximum hard drive memory I can install if its even doable. Also, which are the parts I should buy to upgrade the RAM and hard drive memory (if its doable).
Currently my macbook runs a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor; 3 MB shared level 2 cache, 2GB of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM, 160GB 5400-rpm hard drive, its a 13'' laptop, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory, it currently has MAC OS X version 10.6.8.
Thanks for the help in advance!

    Maximum Memory
    8.0 GB
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
The largest hard drive you can install is a 1.5 TB drive from Hitachi (HGST.)
You can find memory at OWC, DataMem, or Crucial.com. OWC also sells suitable hard drives, toolkits, and online tutorials.
How to replace or upgrade a drive in a laptop
Step One: Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Step Two: Remove the old drive and install the new drive.  Place the old drive in an external USB enclosure.  You can buy one at OWC who is also a good vendor for drives.
Step Three: Boot from the external drive.  Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears.  Select the icon for the external drive then click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Step Four: New Hard Drive Preparation
      1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
      2. After DU loads select your new hard drive (this is the entry with the
mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of
the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive
is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  Otherwise, click on the
Partition tab in the DU main window.
      3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from
the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended
(Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to
GUID  then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and
wait until the process has completed.
      4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the
drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main
          window.
      5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the
Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to
          return to the Erase window.
      6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several
hours depending upon the drive size.
Step Five: Clone the old drive to the new drive
      1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
      5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the
          Destination entry field.
      6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the
          Source entry field.
      7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new internal drive. Source means the old external drive.
Step Six: Open the Startup Disk preferences and select the new internal volume.  Click on the Restart button.  You should boot from the new drive.  Eject the external drive and disconnect it from the computer.

I would like to upgrade to CC full cloud prepaid offer that applies to this day December 3rd. 17 nov. to 3 December the prepaid price € 587.30 per year , incl. VAT. If I want to upgrade online than adobe gives the regular price of price € 737.85 per year , incl. VAT again? But is still 3 December!
Tomorrow is December 4 , and the offer is then expired. Tomorrow I'll call Adobe to help me with this upgrade.  I also have a problem with MUSE. MUSE I had already downloaded and worked with it. Yesterday I did a clean install of my OSX system Mavericks to Yosemite. (all software must be reinstalled) Today tried reinstalling MUSE.
A message came Error : 1 Please uninstall and reinstall the product. I just have nothing to uninstall because all my data and programs from my computer are deleted / erased, so MUSE doesn't live anymore on my computer. Yet MUSE indicates the first uninstal and reinstall the product .  Before I switched to Yosemite dit not uninstall MUSE , maybe that's the problem? Pleas assist me with this also.  I will call Adobe tomorrow 4 december in the morning als for this problem.

  • I would like to upgrade from Snow Leopard. The " Install OS X Mavericks to begin installation" link is black. Is it because I back-up with an outside back-up service? I do not know why it will not allow me to begin upgrade. I feel silly even asking.

Would like to upgrade to Mavericks, but just a slight problem.

    Hi Histotek,
You may want to make sure that your computer meets the system requirements for upgrading to Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) -
Apple - OS X Mavericks - Read the technical specifications.
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
In particular the supported models part is important.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Hello, i currently run 10.5.8 and would like to upgrade to enable me to pair my phone with my mack, how do i do it and what do i need to buy ?

hello i currently run 10.5.8 and would like to upgrade tp pair my i phone and stop e-mail probs,  how do i do it and what do i need to buy ?

You first need to purchase and install OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Also, it wouldn't hurt to increase the RAM in your iMac.
Your year and model iMac can take 4 GBs of RAM. Out of that amount of RAM, the 2006 iMac will recognize between 3.1 and 3.4 GBs of that total RAM.
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
Once OS X 10.6 is installled , you will need to use OS X Software Update function in OS X's System Prefernces Panel to update to OS X to OS X 10.6.8. This will give your iMac access to the Mac App Store.
If you wish, your iMac year and model can only be updated to OS X 10.7 Lion. Your hardware limits you to OS X 10.7 Lion. Your iMac can't run or install OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion OR OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
My strong advice is that you keep your iMac model on OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. OS X 10.7 Lion needs a full 4 GBs of RAM, for the OS alone. Your Mac barely meets this requirement and will leave no additonal RAM to efficiently run any additional application without severly slowing down your iMac.
Before embarking on a OS X system upgrade, it would be very prudent to back up all of your important, personal data, beforehand.
You can choose just to backup the most important data by either burning data to CDs/DVDs, or copying data to large capacity USB flash drives.
The two better methods is to purchase a good quality external hard drive and backup the data and OS using OS X's Time Machine app to back your data up to an externally connected hard drive.
The other method is to backup your entire system and data using data cloning apps such as Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper to clone an exact copy of your iMac's internal hard drive to the externally connected hard drive.   Cloning data to an external drive will give that drive the ability to boot from in an emergency. Your Mac will be able to be booted and run off of an external drive.
The type of connection of an external hard drive is yours to choose. The two types of data transfer connections your Mac can use are USB 2.0 or FireWire 400/800.
If you want a hard drive that has a faster, continuous throughput of data and the possibilty of running your iMac from an external hard drive (in the event your Mac's internal hard drive fails or data becomes corrupt and your Mac system won't boot to the Mac's internal drive) opt for a FireWire drive. If none of this is important to you, then get a hard drive that uses a USB 2.0 connection, instead.
    Good Luck!

  • I just purchased a IMac Power PC G4 which has the Tiger 10.4.11 OS. I would like to upgrade to Lion OS. How can I upgrade the OS?

I just purchased a Power Mac PC G4. The system has OS Tiger 10.4.11. I would like to upgrade it to Lion.
    How can I do It?
    Thank You
    Hubert

PPC (PowerPC) is the processor architecture of all G3, G4 and G5 Power Mac computers.
PPC Macs cannot run any OS greater than Leopard, 10.5.8 because after that, Apple quit developing for PPC processors and limited support for the Intel processor line only.
As for upgrade to Leopard, Yes, if your machine meets the minimum requirements of 867 MHz or faster processor, 512 MB or greater of RAM and has a DVD reader it can have Leopard installed.
To install Leopard, one must first purchase a RETAIL (black with X on it) disc.
After install of 10.5, 10.5.1,10.5.4 or 10.5.6 retail version, free updates to 10.5.8 are available from Apple.
    Check eBay for discs:
    http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=mac+os+x+leopard+retail+10.5
If your machine is slower than 867 MHz, Google "Unsupported Leopard Installation".
Tiger is lthe best choice for slower PPC Macs.

Since your Mac probably came with 10.4, there is no longer a way to get 10.5 Leopard install media. IF it has the requirements, you may be able to upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard by buying the boxed install media at the Apple Store for $30.

    From what I read here:
    http://www.tuaw.com/2011/06/06/lion-...u-2-gb-of-ram/
s long as they already have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installed in it.All a person needs to do with that type of iMac is to upgrade/max out their Ram. They claim that an Interl iMac with Core 2 Duo is all that is needed, as long as it has OS 10.6.8 installed. They say you don`t need  the "Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor"
But I wonder about the RAM speed, the iMac 2.33Ghz uses DDR2 SDRAM,  which I believe is rated at 667Mhz. Lion maybe installed but it might be problems running smoothly or not?
Did some quick checking and the iMacs apple is selling this year use 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM.
The only thing to do is to make sure you have a good back-up, Install your RAM and install Snow Leo, then wait a couple of hours and install Lion.
    Good Luck

    Hi, you need 10.6.8 first...
First you need to research all the problems people are having with the higher OSX versions, & make sure you have a bootable clone of what you have just in case.
then you must get 10.6, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.

I'm coming late to this string because I now have the same issue as gillnfly and you have all solved virtually all of my questions - thanks!  My only other question to add to what you've already said is - I currently have 1 G of memory installed.  Can I ADD a 2G card to get to 3G (probably more than I need), or should cards match if you have more than 1 - i.e., 2 1G cards or replace existing 1G with a 2G, or even 2 2G cards (way more than I need).
Thanks for your spot-on comments!  I already found the OWC website and you've confirmed that's the best place to go.
