Lightroom 3 keyword suggestions

It seems that Lightrrom 3 keyword suggestions aren't, well, suggestions any more, as they were in Lightroom 2. Can I revert the behaviour back?
Let me give you a real example. I take pictures with Bob in them. Bob is often with Suzie. In Lightroom 2 if I added the keyword "Bob" to a picture it would recommend "Suzie", which saved me some typing.
No longer in Lightroom 3 - it seems to just give me a list of recent keywords - I'm not actually sure how it differs from the 'Recent Keywords' set displayed immediately below. Any ideas?
Many thanks
Tom

I agree, in version 2 the suggestions in my experience were usually meaningful. It was particularly so with extended family photos where if I entered a name then LR2 would come up with keyword suggestions such as spouse/childrens names. In my nature or landscape photography LR2 would come up with useful related suggestions from previously entered images. eg. If I typed "pelican" LR2 would suggest items such as "bird", "beach", "flight", "waterbird", "sea", "water" etc. This feature made keywording effortless when adding a number of keywords
Now it is as good as useless. The keywords suggested bear little or no relevance to the first keywords selected. Keywording is tedious again. In my opinion this amounts to a bug and I hope that our friends at Adobe both listen and rectify it soon.
Please can someone from Adobe comment on this.

  • How can I disable awesomebar search/keyword suggestions on FF 3.6?

I am on FF 3.6. I'm trying to find a way to disable the AwesomeBar search/keyword suggestions. I have gone through tools -> options -> privacy -> location bar. I have tried setting the location bar set to show only history, bookmarks, or even none, but it still shows keyword search suggestions. How can I disable this?
I have also tried from about:config, setting maxrichresults to 0. Again, that is not what I'm looking for. I want it to show history and bookmarks, but I do not want keyword search suggestions.

I'm pretty sure the poster doesn't want to disable the keyword search functionality. What they want is for keyword searches to work, but just not be displayed (or at least not displayed as the automatic first option) on the list of location bar suggestions when typing a new URL.
In their words, "I want it to show history and bookmarks, but I do not want keyword search suggestions."
That was how keyword search bookmarks worked in FF3.5, if I recall, and I too would like that behavior back. I haven't found any way to train the awesomebar to not show me keyword search bookmarks.

  • How can I delete keyword suggestions?

I'm just starting up with FCPX and am adding lots of keywords to clips. However it is annoyingly remembering mistyped keywords even if I have deleted them (they don't appear in the event viewer). For instance, when typing the keyword "detail" it sometimes wants to break it up into two keywords "de" and "tail". How can I remove types from keyword suggestions? In the image below I would want it to stop suggesting "da" and "de".
I am not asking how to delete the keywords from the shortcuts in the keyword editor or from the events viewer.

  • Request: improve "keyword suggestions"

More than anything I use LR to help make sure that I can keep my pictures systematically in order and with relevant keywords.
One thing I have never understood is why there is no filter to avoid duplicating "suggested" keywords, that already are shown in the existing keyword set.
This only "crowds out" space for useful suggestions that are not immidiately available in the current keyword set. And I cannot see, why anyone would like to have a keyword shown twice (both as a "suggested keyword" and in the current keyword set) in stead of having more (=a better) suggested keywords.
It should be really, really, easy to fix. And i am sure people would find it very useful in their daily work if they use lots of keywords. I sometimes have almost all the keywords in my existing set duplicated as "suggested" keywords, which is unproductive.

LR2 has two boxes for entering keywords: the old big multi-line one, and a smaller one below it. Keyword suggesting, as well as the Ctrl+K shortcut, moved to the new smaller box.
They could have left keyword suggesting in the old big box too (I still prefer it - probably got used), but for some reason they didn't.

  • Keyword suggestions not working

Have upgraded v2 from 1.41 so far without any major problems. However, the keyword suggestions from recent values (autofill) doesn't work with newly applied or old keywords. The box in Catalog Settings is ticked. Should I click on Clear All Suggestion Lists and start again or will that make matters worse in some way? Any help gratefully received.

  • Lightroom 5 keyword problem

I am relatively new to Lightroom and have been importing groups of images into Lightroom.  All my images already have keywords so when I import them those words populate the keyword list.   I started organizing the list by moving keywords under parents.  For example I have ATTRIBUTES under that heading I have words like beauty, delicate, fragile, gossamer, etc.  For some reason ATTRIBUTES and all that I have listed under it has been drawn under another word, in this case feathery.  What I want is for ATTRIBUTES to again be the parent and feathery to be part of the list under attributes.  How do I do this?
I tried dragging feathery and placing it in ATTRIBUTES but it won't allow that to happen because feathery is now the parent.
I have looked around internet resources and this forum and have not found any obvious answer.  Bear in mind I am not entering keywords, nor have I created any keyword sets.  I am simply organizing the existing words that populated the keyword list from my various imports  that scroll out under the Keyword list panel.   I want to organize them so when I do enter new images that need to be keyworded I can just logically open the various parents and easily select the proper keywords.
I am sure I am missing something fundamental here and I am a bit afraid to go trying a bunch of things for fear of making the problem worse.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Forgot to mention that I do know I can drag ATTRIBUTES and put it under other keywords.  I am trying to get it to stand on its own with its complement of keywords scrolling out beneath it.

  • Creating video stills with Lightroom 4. Suggestions for improvement.

I have to create a lot of videos stills from videos. I am doing it with iMovie and SnapzProX right now. I would like to do it with Lightroom 4 but the work-flow has to be improved. Right now it is pretty unusable for my special purpose. I explain why.
In iMovie I play a movie in full screen presentation mode. You can start and stop the movie with the space bar. You can navigate frame-by-frame with the arrow keys. Unfortunately you cannot jump by 10 frames if you press shift and arrow keys (like in other video apps). The video scrubbing area goes across the whole screen, so you have space enough to scrub and find the parts in the video that you like to grab. All in all this makes it pretty easy to find the exact still frames that you then can capture with SnapzProX. The down-side is that you have to organize the captured frames yourself by importing them into Lightroom.
Now we have video import in Lightroom 4 and we can capture frames. But the handling is not really comfortable.
You can start and stop the video with space but you cannot locate an exact frame with the arrow keys. You have to use the locator and scrub with the mouse. Since the scrubbing area is short it is pretty difficult to find the exact frame. To capture a frame you have to select the pop-up.
Here is my suggestions to turn the video feature in Lightroom 4 into a dream for people who need to capture video stills.
Make the video slider bigger. At least across the whole video.
Go to next and previous frame via arrow keys
Jump by +10 / -10 frames via shift + arrow keys
Keeping arrow keys pressed should repeat the action
Create a keyboard shortcut for capturing a frame
Imagine how this would improve the work-flow.
All videos stills would be automatically organized in Lightroom.
You have the original video file linked and can add more stills later.
You can color correct the stills.
AND - you can color correct the video.
I am just wondering how I would export the color corrected video to something like Apple Intermediate to process it further via Compressor for web delivery. I haven't tried this yet. Any ideas?
I hope my suggestions make sense and find their way in the finished product.
    Andreas

While in video, using captured frame – my picture is extracted at 19 20 x 10 80.
Attempting to use this picture in the books module causes resolution problems yet the same picture when used in the print module and save to a picture file causes no resolution problems and becomes 255 0 x 3300 when using it in the book module.
another improvement would be to set the resolution so it reacts like it does in the print module and adjust the book module similary

  • Lightroom 4 Keywording Multiple Photos

I'm in library mode and trying to add the same series of keywords to a group of about 60 photos.  All these photos are highlighted at the bottom of my screen but one photo appears to be highlighted more brightly.  I've typed in a group of keywords in my sidebar and then clicked enter.  I thought that action should tag all 60 photos with the same keywords but it doesn't.  Only the brightly highlighted photo gets the keywords.  Surely there has to be a way to tag multiple photos with the same keywords all at once.  I've watched Cris Orwig's video on Adobe and am following the same steps he demonstrates but the keywords are only tagged to the one photo.  Am I missing something simple here?
    Thank you
    Mark

I just reviewed http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-lightroom-5/adding-keywords/ in which Chris Orwig clearly shows adding keywords to multiple images in the filmstrip, NOT in the grid view.  Of course, MY Lightroom doesn't allow me to add keywords to multiple images using the method shown in this video.  And just an added note that this is the EXACT same video shown under the label "learn-lightroom-4/adding-keywords/ so I don't know if this could be done in v4 but not in v5 and someone just screwed up by reusing the same video.....  Thanks Jim Wilde and everyone else for your help.  I was starting to pull my hair out.

  • Lightroom 4 Keywords

I've been experimenting with LR4, but can't figure out how to reset all keywords and restart from scratch.
I've deleted every catalog I can find (they were all under a Lightroom folder under Pictures).
I start Lightroom and create a new catalog.  I exit, delete the default catalog and restart.
I import a folder with about 6 images, each with a few non-hierarchical keywords.
Lightroom gets inventive and puts them into hierarchies that it remembered from earlier in the day when I had imported keywords from Bridge and then tried to fix the mess Lightroom made of them.  Where is it getting these old hierarchies from??
How do I stop this nonsense and start clean?

The answer seems to be that Lightroom doesn't play nice with other programs that keyword tag files, even the JPG files which I started with.
In addition to tags that other programs can see, Lightroom seems to put its own hidden tagging information in JPGs (and who knows what it does with other files).  Went one removes the tags with another program, Lightroom still finds its own hidden information.
Can someone point me to a detailed explanation from Adobe of what really happens with different file types?
Only solution seemed to be to use Lightroom to remove ALL tags from the files I previously tagged in Bridge and start over (in Bridge).
One thing I really don't like about tagging with Lightroom:
Assume you have a hierarchical tag like:  Birds > Ducks > Mallard
If you apply just the Mallard and the Ducks tags with Bridge, that's all that put in the file and all other programs see.
If you apply just the Mallard and Ducks tags with Lightroom, it seems to know that you've just added those tags, not the Birds tags.  But if you look at the file with another program (Bridge, Windows Explorer, etc.) all three tags have been applied.
What's even worse, if after tagging in LR I go back to Bridge and remove the "Birds" tag, and then come back to Lightroom and try to change the tags again or remove them all I get a "metadata write error" from LR4 which I have no idea how to resolve.
The only reason I bought Lightroom was for cataloging, and I'm experimenting with LR4 to try out the new ACR features.  I've had so much trouble with the tags that I haven't even had a chance to look at the new ACR features.

  • Lightroom 4 - keywords lists

It should be able to create keyword lists in two languages at least in Lightroom 4, in English and local language. It's because not everyone speaks English, but English is required to exhibit the photo on the stock. It will make work easier.
I need to have choose of what language version I wont so save keywords when I export the images.
And more, the ability to edit lists of keywords in a separate extended window, to facilitate.

As this forum is focused primarily on the beta version and new features, you'd be better to log your request on the official feature request forum here: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/products/photoshop_family_photoshop_lightro om

  • Importing Lightroom 2 keywords into Aperture

    Hi.
I just got Aperture but am currently using Lightroom 2 and am trying to switch over. I'm trying to find a way to export my photos from Lightroom and them import them into Aperture but still have the keywords attached to the photos so that I do not have to go through all of the photos and re-keyword them.
    Thanks for any help!

I've got similar issue, but for me it's importing my photos from Digikam (Linux).
Digikam supports hierarchal tags (keywords) and stores them as ITPC keywords and, as noted by the OP, Aperture picks these up which is great. The problem/limitation is that ITPC keywords are flat so, in order to maintain the hierarchy, DK writes them to ITPC as '/' delimited.
For example, I have the following tag hierarchy in DK:
    People
    ...Family
    ......Me
    ......Mo
    ......Tanya
    ......Tamzyn
A photo tagged in DK with Me and Tanya results in the following ITPC keywords:
    People, People/Family, People/Family/Me, People/Family/Tanya
Aperture adds each of those as a discrete keyword which is OK as it means the metadata is retained, but is there anyway, scripting perhaps, to have Aperture recognize the '/' delimited keywords as a hierarchy (I've created the same hierarchy in Aperture)?

  • Lightroom + CS3 workflow suggestions please

I have been scanning a lot of old photos and slides from my grandparents, some of which are quite badly damaged and require work beyond the capabilities of Lightroom.
I like the Lightroom non-destructive editing capabilities and the fact that I can create many virtual copies of a photo without taking up more disk space for each copy.
However, when editing in CS3, I am forced to write out a new PSD file each time - thus dramatically increasing the amount of disk space used.
I just wanted to hear how other people structure their workflow when editing Lightroom files in CS3? I want to maximise the flexibility of editing (especially when experimenting with edits that I may later want to undo), while minimising the amount of disk space used (some scans are very large).
    Suggestions?

    Answered my own question
The problem for me is that I was using two monitors.
The second display was set to Grid view and this is where I select the images.  If you then press 'B' to send to the Target Collection then only the first image gets sent.
If you have Grid View on the first display and then select the images and press 'B'  all the selected images go to the Target Collection.
The same effect happens with Flagging or setting Colour Labels.  Only first image on second screen (Grid View) but all selected images if on first screen (Grid View)
    Bug or feature!

  • Lightroom video keywords to FCPX?

I've got years of video archived in Lightroom, and now that FCPX can import Finder keywords, does anyone know a way to get Lightroom keywords into FCPX as well? thanks,

  • Bridge Searches and Keyword suggestions

In Bridge CS3, changing the search target, eg from filename to keyword, dumps any search items already entered and replaces it with 'Enter Text'. This is seriously irritating if you have already entered the search string and have the wrong field selected.
Please leave the search text alone when changing field!
And please allow keyboard shortcuts for selecting search field criteria - eg for filename or keyword searches.
And please explain which search goes with which history state - a tooltip hint would be enough. A list full of 'search results' doesn't help much.
And please can list of keywords etc be sensitive to letter keys to jump and cycle through keywords starting with that letter. Working with very long keyword lists can be very tedious - especially when new keywords are always created at the top of the list even when the original insertion point was at the target position.

My bridge doesn't let me work hierarchly. There is not the green arrow at the bottom to do so, nor a box to run "search"
Does anybody know how to solve this?
    Thank you

  • Lightroom 2, Keywording and searching

I am not sure if I am missing a step... but when I started updating keywords some older photos. I placed in Zoo Atlanta, Zoo, and Apes. I synched the keywords and tried to use the search feature. TEXT - ANY SEARCHABLE FIELD - CONTAINS ALL and then I would put in the words I just updated.
At any rate.... no matter what I do, I cannot get the search to come up with this set of pictures.
Please fill me in if I am missing something here.
Also.... I did go to Metadata, selected this group of Zoo photos and clicked on Save Metadata to File. Lastly, I did optimize the database to see if that would help.

    Ian,
Thanks... that seemed to work. I don't recall in 1.4 or earlier that you needed to select All Photographs under Catalog to search this way.. but it appears that if you are in a year or month / year.. it will only check that folder.
    Please share your thoughts.
    Thanks for your help.
