Lightroom 3 Lightroom 64 bit stopped working

I am using Lightroom 3 on Windows 7 platform.
I got the lightroom 64-bit stopped working message.
I went to the forums etc and got the following advice
Delete preference file: I did
delete catalog file: I did
delete .lock files
I uninstalled and reinstalled and got  Lightroom 64-bit stopped working message.
Is there a fix to this?

Very likely there is a way to fix this, but since we don't know the root cause yet, it's just experimentation time. Here is a list of the steps mentioned as well as many others: Troubleshoot system errors, freezes | Windows | Adobe software

  • Lightroom 5.5 stopped working.

Lightroom 5.5 stopped working.  when opening any photos the message says "unexpected error opening catalog"

Go to the Lightroom catalog folder on your hard drive (the default location is usually inside the pictures folder)
Look for your named catalog ending in .lrcat
    Double-click on the lrcat file.
If that makes no difference you may need to start over with a new catalog if you don’t have an earlier back-up of the lrcat file. Check your backups folder as these are often made when Lightroom quits.
To start a new catalog click:
    File >> New Catalog
Choose a new name and save.
When the empty catalog opens, import again from your folders.
N.B. before starting a new catalog I would suggest you update to Lightroom 5.7. Download links are available from this blog:

  • CS4 64-bit stopped working completely

I have a new computer with wondows 7 and when I installed CS4 it worked perfect in the beginning but after a few weeks PS CS4 64-bit stopped and I could only open the "normal" version.
If I try to open the 64-bit it says: "Adobe photoshop cs4 does not work anymore, looking for a solution" and after that I can only quit the program.
Does anybody know what the problem is and how I can fix this?
    thanks in advanced,
    marca

Sounds like something that was installed or configured is now in conflict with Photoshop CS4 64 bit.
Did you update anything (e.g., download new video drivers) at the time that Photoshop 64 bit stopped working?
How long has it been?  Can you consider doing a System Restore back to when it worked?  You might have some stuff to reinstall, but you could check after each to know what it is that's conflicting with Photoshop.
    Hope this helps.

P.S., Photoshop CS4 64 bit works just fine for me on my fully up-to-date Windows 7 x64 system, so keep heart; it can work.

  • Photshop 64 bit stopped working, re-install doesnt fix the problem

I signed up to the Creative Cloud late last year. I eventually got all the programs working OK - but a month or so ago Photoshop 64 bit stopped working - I get messages to re-install. I've tried a couple of clean installs but without success. Because I can use 32 bit Photshop this hasn't been a criitcal problem yet - but it is annpoying. Any suggestions?

Did you run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool? If not, do so and attempt another install. The rest is far too imprecise to make any sense of it - you are not providing any system information or otehr details that might be relevant.

  • Lightroom CC has stopped working ...

Hello, I upgraded lr 5.7.1 to Lr CC (via Creative Cloud) but when Lr CC lauches to upgrade the catalog I have a pop up : Lightroom has stopped working". What could be the problem ??? Many thanks

I have had the exact same problem and managed to get hold of a chat support person to check it out. I run LR on a Toshiba Laptop with windows 7 with SP 1. After a 1 hour wait for chat and about 1 hour of the guy taking over my machine, it transpires the reason that Lightroom  hangs after catalog upgrade is that the graphics drivers on the Laptop are not compatible with Lightroom 6, Solution is upgrade drivers, I have therefore cancelled my CC subscription which I took out only 2 days ago, i have managed to get it cancelled. Also there are no updatede drivers for my laptop which essentially means Lightroom 6 is not supported on this particular laptop. I am going to stay on Lightroom 5.7 until I decide to buy a new laptop or mac. Eh oh, this has been a waste of a weekend but I hope that this solution helps. To check if this problem is related to your upgrade, check the windows event viewer when the app hangs and see if there is a problem with the aticfx64.dll if there is then you need to upgrade the drivers, if they exist !

  • Lightroom 5.5 stops working when I try to Edit Preferences

I installed Lightroom 5.5 a month back. I had no other versions of Lightroom on my computer before that. I have Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC on my machine. I want to add Noise Ninja standalone as an External editor and have tried to edit preferences. I use Windows 8.1 on my desktop. Every time I click on Edit->Preferences, Lightroom stops working and exits. I read the forum and once removed the Preferences file and restarted. The problem still continues. I am unable to find a solution.

Thanks Geoff the Kiwi.  Did they forget to include those two DLLs in the installation package?
Nope. Just to be clear, they are Microsoft DLLs which can be and are used by other applications, including Lightroom. In the majority of the "007b" cases that we came across on these forums it was determined that an application called iLivid was heavily implicated in corrupting these two DLLs and thus impacting Lightroom. So Adobe provided this "fix" which simply downloads "clean" versions of those two DLLs.

  • Edit a copy with lightroom adjustment suddenly stopped working

I have been using lightroom 3.4 and photoshop CS6 for sometime. However suddenly I cant move images from lightroom to photoshop (Ctrl+E) with the "Edit a copy with lightroom adjustment".
When I click this option, it opens the Photoshop. But doesnt open the image. However the other two options "edit a copy" and "Edit original" works fine.
Also when i add photoshop again as another external editor, it works fine. But as you all are aware this create another copy of the image.
    What I did
I checked the applications path for photoshop and it was correct.
    I uninstalled lightroom and reinstalled.

    Hi Victoria,
I dont have 3.6. but I installed lightroom 4 and the function worked fine. But i didnt like the version 4, as it consumes a lot of resources.
I can open raw files without any problem.
And this function had been working before and suddenly this stopped working. I didnt do any setttings changes even.
Really appreciate your help on this.

  • LR3 64 bit stops working when I try to import photos

I recently installed, uninstalled and re-installed LR3 and in my opinion it SUCKS! Every time I try to import photos the program stalls and quits responding. It eventually (after several minutes) gives me a message that "Lightroom has stopped working and will close." When I installed it, I created a new catalog and did NOT upgrade my existing LR2 catalogs so there shouldn't be any cross contamination with older file metadata as suggested in other posts. Has anyone else experienced this problem? My OS: Windows Vista 64-bit, 8GB RAM. I didn't have any problems with LR2, nor do I recall this being a problem with LR3-beta. Needless to say....I am NOT happy at the moment!!!!

I had this problem with LR2, seemed to work Ok but when I was downloading Photos it would crash, ended up being a bad MB for me and this happened to me a second time as well and found out the processor wasn't Seated correctly, it was heating up, re-seated it an NP since!
I'm not a Geek and know very little about this stuff, the first time I had a problem with this I took my puter to the local Micro-Center store, my brother builds, upgrades my puters for me and the parts came from Micro-Center, they diagnosed the Bad MB (Gigabyte) and replaced it for free and my brother spotted the heating problem with the MB! I think in this incident I got a bigger power supply and new fan?
Don't know if this is your problem or not? Just trying to help, I had no other problems except for when downloading Photo's, does this take extra processing power?

  • Lightroom 5.6 stops working when I click Help Lightroom Online...

I recently installed Lightroom CC 5.6 64-bit for the first time, in Windows 7, and the very first menu item I clicked (Help > Lightroom Online...) caused the following error to happen. (see photo, below).
Any suggestions on how to make this problem go away?
The issue is 100% repeatable, and forces me to close and re-open the Lightroom program each time. I have not yet tried all of the other functions to check their behavior, except for Help > Lightroom Help... which worked as it should.

No help with those. Actually I tried same thing on my HP Envy Laptop and it gives slightly different response. This is a screenshot after clicking.
I wonder why someone indicates this "correct answer" cos there is not yet my respons of solving this problem? In both computers I only use Administrator account and Lightroom still continues this behavior even if I got fresh account. And ofcourse that can't be a solution in problem witch does not repeat any other application.
    Regards
    Sami

  • Lightroom 3 has stopped working

I can't get the program to even open any more. I tried upgrading to 3.6 (I think I was using 3.3), but it still won't open. Is LR3 no longer compatible with my Mac operating system (10.6.8)?

    AlexTWilson wrote:
It may be that my version of LR is too old (as the OS is updated)
No, that's not the reason. Your updated OS will work with Lr3. The problem lies somewhere else.
How long did you wait when you saw "Lightroom not responding" before force-quitting?
It can happen that Lr needs quite a while, particularly after you had problems.
You should at least wait 10 min.
But if that doesn't help I would suggest a 2-step process:
    1) Replace the Preference File.
This file can go "funny" and is then responsible for all kinds of strange behavior of Lr. The remedy is replacing the Preference File.
BTW: Re-installing Lr does not replace the Pref. File since it is designed to "survive" updates and upgrades of Lr.
See here for where to find the Preference file for your OS: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lightroo m-4.html
See here for how to go about Replacing the Preference File: http://lightroomers.com/replacing-the-lightroom-preference-file/745/
    2) If that doesn't help: Re-install Lr.
Un-install it with your OS and re-install Lr 3.6.

  • For some reason Lightroom 2 has stopped working correctly.

As of this morning I can't even select all and export files to my laptop any more.
Prior to this I was having problems with selecting all and adding a label. Even though all pics were highlighted, only the first file updates and I need to individually update the label on each file, even though they are all highlighted. I'm very busy and this is very frustrating - is there an update to correct this?

That was a problem with exporting to my desktop, not my laptop
