Lightroom 3 printing wrong image?!

Help!  I use Lightroom 3 on a MacBook Pro (v10.8.6), and I print using a Canon 8150 A4 printer.  I've printed hundreds of images over the last couple of years for friends and family without any difficulty.  Now, suddenly, when I select an image to print, either (a) the correct image shows in the Print Module but another image is printed, or (b) another image altogether appears in the Print Module.  I'm not a computer boffin, and I'm feeling a bit desperate.  I do back up onto an external hard drive using Time Machine from time to time, but something like uninstalling Lightroom and reinstalling it and reimporting all my images etc, would floor me.  If anyone has any suggestions as to what might be behind my problem, I've be really really grateful!

Unusual wierdness can often be attributed to a damaged preference file:

Follow these instructions to reset the file and see if it fixes your printing wierdness.

  • CS3 Annoyances - Shift-Clone/Paint, Printing, Wrong Image onscreen

    My environment:
Windows Vista Home Premium, 2GB RAM, 200GB free HDD space, HP Laptop
    Adobe Photoshop CS3 (with/without 10.0.1 patch)
Epson Stylus Pro 4800 via TCP/IP connection
I am still having the following three problems:
    1. When holding down the shift key and clicking near the edge of the screen with a paint/clone/repair brush, the screen jumps to another area of the image (light years away it seems) - PS7 and CS2 moved a fraction of an inch in comparison.
    2. When printing to the Epson Stylus Pro 4800, no matter how many copies I indicate that I want, I'll inevitably get more...sometimes many more. From my other PC, a dual P3 with 4GB of RAM running Win2KPro and PSCS2, this does not happen (using same file).
    3. If I close a file that is showing full-window (not necessarily full-screen), and another image is still waiting to be worked on in the background, the full-window image does not change when the file closes, but the navigator version of the image changes to the next image waiting in the background. I have to resize the window to force a rewrite of the screen with the correct image.
I am patiently waiting for fixes/workarounds to these issues - any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I can't believe there isn't another person experiencing these same problems... is there another place to look for "known issues" with CS3 and the other versions of Photoshop?

  • Lightroom not printing correct size image

I am finding that my Lightroom 5 prints are bigger than the settings that I input in the Print module.  Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong?

Okay, let's see if I can accurately describe everything.  I will just run down the list of settings in each drop down menu.
    Layout - single image
Image Settings - Zoom to fill
    Layout - page p/grid rows & columns 1, cell size H - 6.00 in, W - 9.00 in
    Guides - all checked
Print job - only 16 bit is checked
The printer settings are for an Epson R2400 using default presets, enhanced matte paper, best photo.  I am trying to print 6x9 inches and I get a 6 1/16 x 9 3/16 inch print.
I hope that is what you need to help.
    Thanks

  • Printing RAW-images from Lightroom 1.3

When I print RAW-images directly from Lightroom 1.3 (to a Canon Pixma 8500) I get a distinct pink bias in the red colors. The same happens with exported TIFF-file in Prophoto RGB-format. I suppose that's the color space also used with the RAW-format so that's probably what's causing the problem. Printing TIFF-exports in Adobe RGB works fine. Is there a straight forward way to avoid this problem and print the correct colors from RAW/TIFF-Prophoto format?

Are you calibrating your screen using a hardware profiler? If not, you cannot possibly expect the colors to print as you see them on the screen. Next, how are you printing? managed by Lightroom or Managed by printer? The color space of the original (RAW does not have a color space BTW) is immaterial in principle. If you are printing managed by Lightroom, you need to absolutely make sure you turn off color management in the printer driver and that you choose the right profile for the paper you are printing on. Most of the times either of those is what is done wrong. If you are printing managed by driver, you should be aware that some drivers are not correctly written to color manage. I doubt the driver for that printer is though.
    >The same happens with exported TIFF-file in Prophoto RGB-format.
How are your printing this? The space of the source should not matter in a color managed workflow. So if you use something like photoshop, there should be no difference whatsoever between printing a ppRGB TIFF and a adobeRGB tiff as both will get converted to the printer profile.

  • Lightroom 2.7 exporting the wrong images

Hi. I've been using Lightroom since the first beta, currently running LR2.7 on a MacBook Pro. I installed the new CS5 (Web Premium suite) a little more than a week ago, and I'm suddenly having problems exporting images to JPEG from Lightroom.
Images import and edit correctly, look great, nothing gives me an error message. But when I try to export a single image, the first instance (after I've launched the application) will export correctly. After that, there seems to be about a 70% chance that subsequent attempts will export the wrong image. The file is correctly named, but the image will be a duplicate of the last successful export.
If I try to export a batch of four or five, the first image will usually export correctly, sometimes the last image will export correctly, but anything in between will be a duplicate of either a previous export, or the first image.
I assumed it was a memory issue, shut down the Mac and restarted, then opened Lightroom as the only active application. Same thing happened. I can export correctly in other applications such as Photoshop and Flash, but Lightroom won't. Activity Monitor doesn't show anything out of line for memory usage.
When the problem started happening I was running 2.6; I upgraded to 2.7 to see if that would fix it--it doesn't.
Any ideas? I'd rather not delete and reinstall Lightroom and rebuild my libraries if I can avoid it, especially if that might not solve the problem.
    Help!
    Thanks--
    --cynthia

Hmmmm. I've tried various naming conventions and I'm still looking for consistency in the way the error occurs--could have something to do with naming presets, but it's acting like something gets stuck in the cache. What puzzles me is that I export files daily, haven't changed cameras, cards, file locations, my workflow is the same, and I've never had this problem. The only thing that's changed (that I'm aware of) is the installation of CS5--the error seems to have started when I started using "Edit in Photoshop." (And again, that was never a problem before)
The files all have different names, the ones assigned by the cameras.
This morning I rebooted, didn't launch any of the CS5 apps. Launched Lightroom, chose 7 files at random and exported them with the "filename" preset. They exported correctly. I selected them again, and tried another export, this time giving them a custom name, and they exported correctly with a sequence number attached. Tried them with "Custom Name-Sequence," and they worked again. I exported a single file with the same preset, again it exported correctly.
Then I switched folders, selected 7 different images and exported them with a new "Custom Name-sequence," and this time Lightroom exported EIGHT files. The sixth was the previously-exported single-file, so the exporter had gotten the first 5 right, inserted the old file in the sixth position, and then correctly exported the last two.
Three more tests exported everything correctly, which is far fewer errors than yesterday. I'm kinda stumped.

  • Lightroom 4 printing issue

I recently got a new printer: Canon Pixma MG7520. When printing with Lightroom 4, I choose borderless printing. The printer works great, but it seems to crop off about 1/4" of the photo all around.. I've tried selecting different paper settings, but nothing seems to work. The preview in Lightroom shows the entire photo. This cropping only happens when printing. Has anyone run into this problem and know how to resolve this?
    Thanks in advance!
    M

It took me a bit of fiddling but I was able to print borderless images from Lightroom 4.4.  I'm using Windows 7.
In Lightroom, on the Print tab, make sure that your margins are set to 0 and the your cell size sliders are all the way to the right, in my case height of 4.00 and width of 6.00.
In the Printer Properties, set to Borderless.
In Lightroom there is a couple of pixel white border on the right of my picture, evident in the first screenshot, but it doesn't appear on the actual print.  I hope that this helps somebody.

  • Print as Image changes between Adobe Reader ver7 and ver8+

    Hi,
We have customers that upgraded to Adobe Reader ver8+ and are now experiencing printing issues with our printer driver (operating system is Windows XP/Vista). When they use Adobe Reader ver8 and above to print their PDF files, with "Print as Image" option selected, the print output is smaller. It looks like the latest version of Adobe Reader output the images using a square DPI. Our printer (line matrix) does not handle square DPI (for example: printer resolution are 120x48, 120x72, 120x144, and 180x96).
Our printer driver just takes the output from the Microsoft print spooler and just encapsulate it with our printer language. We don't do any image manipulation. So, I would like to know was there a change in the way Adobe Reader version 8 and above create the output image? If so, is there a backward compatibility switch our driver can issue during the printing function?
I tried talking to Adobe Tech support (bronze support), but they only handle end user issues. Is there a tech support option that I can purchase that will allow me to get to the root of this driver compatibility issue? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Adobe doesn't apparently care. I get this problem all the time on our work network. There's a lot of questions in this forum and elsewhere on the internet.
The best answer I've seen is that there's something wrong with the PDF or you don't have the right font, or you did something wrong, or here try this ridiculously complicated workaround. I wish they would just fix their program!
Suggestions: go through all the "standard" things like updating printer drivers, printing the document as an image, updating Adobe (yeah, like "it works now" is a new feature in the latest version), etc. It's possible that could fix the problem. Otherwise, wait until Adobe releases a version of Reader that doesn't have this issue.

  • Printing multiple images on single page

Can anyone explain how to print multiple images on the same page such as 4-4x6 photos? Or the same image more than once on a page - similar to the N-up option in iPhoto? Anything new and helpfull for printing in 1.5? Thanks.

No, it isn't what we're looking for.
Let's take the example of a professional portrait photographer (me? ) trying to set up a home-lab with a wide format, roll printer.
    I get an order for, say, 2 4x5 of image 1, 2 4x5 of image 2, 4 5x7 of image 3. I have 10" paper loaded in my roll.
What I would want to do is gang the prints onto 3 "units" - the 4 4x5 on one 8"x10" unit, and 2 5x7 on each 7"x10" unit.
Since my clients ordered specific sizes, I need to make sure I get the prints sized exactly right (contact sheet tool doesn't let me do this) and since printing is pricey, I want to make sure to waste as little paper/ink as possible. I also don't want to get stuck doing a lot of trimming.
So, in lightroom, photoshop, imagebuddy, portraits-n-prints etc, I would just ask the app to output the package for me. In Aperture, I'm stuck. I can't use the book tool because it uses a (moronically) fixed page-size. I can't use the contact sheet tool because it doesn't let me specify image size/aspect ratio. I can't use the "standard" print tool because it only prints one image per page.
This is a glaring omission, and a slap in the face to the professionals that Aperture claims to see as its target audience.

  • Lightroom 4 printing crash

Hello, and thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.
    I am working with Mac OS V 10.8.3 and Lightroom V 4.4
I am unable to print. When I go to print an image (using any one of 4 printers) I get the Mac print dialog box and then as soon as I hit enter Lightroom crashes/closes.
All other applications print fine to the various printers.
I have tried reinstalling both Lightroom and all the printer drivers.
If I create a new mac user account and then try to print, it works fine.
I started with Lighroom I and have upgraded all the way to 4 and never had any trouble until 4. I have NEVER been able to print from Lightroom 4. My work-around has been printing through photoshop CS6 but that just too inconvenient at times.
I have worked with Victoria aka "Lightroom Queen" and we haven't been able to come to a solution.

So, I had this problem tonight after experiencing no problems with Lightroom 4 previously. I noticed that in the print dialog box, where you can select to print "all" the pages or a page range, the page range radial was highlighted and the defined page range was "7" to "7". I was only printing one image so I changed the print range to "1" to "1". And it did the trick. Crazy, eh?

  • Lightroom 5 Prints are too Dark - We Need a Fix Now!

    Hi
    Am using LR 5.7
I import images in RAW and convert to DNG.
hen I export as a JPG and print, the prints are fine.
When I print from Lightroom's Print Module, the prints come out too dark with a significant loss of detail in shadow.
Adobe....  This has been a major problem since version LR 1...  It is High time you fixed it!  I have wasted dozens of sheets of paper due to this problem!!
My screen is a 24" calibrated IPS ASUS monitor.
    Windows 7, 64Bit.
    Many Thanks
    Kind Rgds

    Hi Butch
Do a google search for Lightroom Prints too Dark and you will find dozens of posts for all versions of LR. It is a common problem.
There are many hardware and software issues that according to a "Google search" would appear as a universal problem, while in reality, they are far from widespread. I can assure you that Lightroom would not be as popular as it is today if this were indeed a universal problem.

I also upload images from LR to a Print Lab and the prints are fine.
Yes, but is your lab making adjustments to the images during the print process? Many do. My labs do not, they simply print the files as they are submitted. Many consumer and "pro"-sumer labs apply auto correction to image files. Most of these labs do not even inform you that they are applying those adjustments.

The problem is using the LR Print Module to print on a printer attached to my PC.
I have the same problem with an Epson R1900 and a Mitsubishi
Yes ... and if you are applying the same settings/instructions in Lr for printing, the problem will persist regardless of the brand of printer used.

LR had ICM managed by Printer. The Printer has ICM managed by Host.
I did try this using the printer's ICM profile within LR. Still too dark.
This could be part of your problem ... if Lightroom is set for the printer to handle color management by the printer ... and your printer is set to be color managed by the host (i.e. - Lightroom) ... then in actuality, the images you are printing from Lightroom are not being color managed at all. Ideally, you should have Lightroom set to manage printing when you have the printer driver set to "managed by Host" ...

No windows apps are adding any additional processing in the printing process as far as I am aware of. The only exposure correction / adjustment was done in LR..... I am choosing the same printer paper profiles in all methods of printing.
You may not be making settings in your Windows apps ... but if your printer driver is set to make auto adjustments by default when printing from these apps could explain the difference.
Additionally, many folks think they are "calibrating" their monitors when they are not doing so as it pertains to printing. Accurate color is only one phase. While your colors may appear true, the monitor brightness may be too much to accurately render a near match of what a printed version of the image would be reproduced.
As trshaner pointed out, not only do you need to render a close approximation of color ... but also overall brightness. Most monitors/displays, even very expensive and high resolution displays, are extremely bright at default settings for rendering a close match for printed material. That overall brightness level should fall within 90 to 120 cd/m2 and be adjusted as needed for your specific viewing environment and papers and printer inks combinations.

  • LR 5 - Image Sizing Dimensions - wrong image size

    Hi,
Image Sizing Dimensions produces wrong image sizes upon export for certain images.
Example, I have export set up for iPad resolution, 2048x1536px at 264ppi. If I now export an 3264x4928px image it should be resized to 1356x2048px. What I get is 1356x2047 instead, one pixel too short on the long side. This doesn't happen for all images source resolutions and ratios though. I haven't figured out the pattern yet.
Here a link to an image which exports at wrong size (export dimension set to 2048x1536px).
    http://www.bobtronic.com/files/IMG_0289.JPG
I would appreciate a speedy fix for this problem. Thanks
    cheers,
    Matthias

The image has a resolution of 3264x4928. Exporting using Dimension resizing of 2048x1536 results in an 2047x1536 image.
The scaling factor 4928 down to 2048, is 0.4155844155844156...
Assuming that LR is working to only 3 decimal places here, which indications discussed in another thread would suggest, then there are several ways to achieve that:
truncate down to 0.415 by discarding the subsequent digits
"quick-rounding" of the third digit by inspecting the fourth-place digit only, and incrementing the third-place digit when the fourth-place digit is larger than 5, which it is not in this case, resulting in 0.415
"math-rounding" by inspecting all of the following digit pairs in turn, until you reach a pair that is lower than 50, and then working back again to simplify. This procedure rounds 0.41558 up to 0.4156, then after doing that, rounds 0,4156 up to 0.416
Speculation: the difference between 0.415 and 0.416, is the difference between a result with 2047, and one with 2048, when executed.
Most of the time the "quick-round" procedure will work out fine, also truncating will usually be good enough, assuming the above has anything to do with the reality (which it may not). Just occasionally, though, there'll be an error in the final digit, compared with what the theoretically accurate procedure would have given. So if I am right this is not strictly speaking a bug (something failing to execute as it has been designed to do), but the result of a software design choice. "Works as designed", iow .
It seems that LR, perhaps differently between versions, is working this through by simple calculation (from the front-end), without comparing the back-end outcome against what you have requested. How much this (intermittent) issue actually matters, is a question of judgement, and of particular requirement.
[ alternative method: I find the Print module, outputting to JPG, is completely reliable when it comes to making a standardised JPG as to the dimensions, as well as offering some different technical and design options, than what you get with Export. For one thing, you get the option of on-the-fly cropping to shape, which you can then adjust interactively where (as here) the image is a different aspect than the Retina display. So if you want it, you can fill the screen instead of getting letterbox, all without having altered your main (Develop) crop for that image. Alternatively, if you don't want the Zoom to Fill option (e.g. with landscape images to be shown in portrait orientation as part of a sequence) you can still make all your images to the same dimension, but controlling the appearance of the borders that are left (which become part of the image) ]
    RP
ps: AFAICT one would expect simple truncation to produce the appropriate answer half of the time; one would expect simple rounding to just one further digit, to be wrong half of the times when the following digit happened to be 5 - or to put in another way, to be right in 95% of cases; and proper rounding, examinng as many places as it takes, to be right 100% (within precision limits).

  • How to print specific image size?

Hi Gang - how do I print a 11x15" image onto 13x19" photo paper?  At first it seems easy, but things aren't making sense. Here's what I did:
I exported the photo and used the LR image resize dialog area to 11x15" - easy.
I imported the exported image (assuming the image was 11x15") and then went to the LR print area - this is where the confusion begins.
The print tab shows the image dimensions as 8 x10.19 in.  Help, how do I make it the 11x15" I need it to be?
I understand that I'll need to adjust the image to get the portion I want into the 11x15 space, but for now, I can't even get the size to 11x15".
I tried custom package options, but no luck there.
I do have Canon's Print Studio Pro plug-in which works great. Except, once again, I don't know how to instruct it to print the image dimension 11x15" on the 13x19" paper.
Fiddling with settings, I printed a dozen attempts, and still no luck achieving 11x15" image size on the 13x19" paper.  For now, I'm OK with the image getting cut off or other skew - baby steps - I need to learn how to make the image print 11x15" image size.A
    Thanks for offering suggestions.
Screen shot shows my 11x15" image is 8x10.19; I don;t know how to make it 11x15".

Brain: generally intuitive, but need help on this question!

The first step in the Lightroom Print module is to click the Page Setup button, select your printer, and then select the paper size. From your screen shot it looks like the correct paper size hasn't  been selected yet, because you said you wanted to print on 13 x 19 inch paper, but the paper on screen is only 8.5 inches wide. My guess is that Page Setup is still set for US Letter size paper, and that you should go back to Page Setup and change it. After you do that, if your Layout Style is set to Single Image you should be able to set the Cell Size to 11 x 15 inches.

  • How do I load a print screen image into a picture indicator?

    Hi,
I am trying to load a printscreen image into a picture indicator without first saving it. I am currently doing it by acquiring and saving a print screen image, then reloading and displaying the bitmap file. This works, but it is not elegant and the colors are displayed wrong. (The SnapView.vi is from the G Toolbox for LabVIEW) Thanks for your help.

    Hello –
When you push the print screen button in your keyboard, the image is send (temporarily stored) to the clipboard.
You could call the Windows API to recover that image and send it to an indicator in the front panel. This Example Program can show you how to make Windows API calls; I think you might find it useful to get started in programming your application.
    Hope this helps.

  • I'm trying to upload pictures from iphoto to stores such as walmart or costco for prints. the images won't upload to these sites. i'm new to mac so i know i'm missing a step somewhere.

i'm not able to upload pictures from iphoto to stores such as walmart or costco to order prints. the images just won't load. does anyone know what i'm doing wrong??

Well, since there is no function to export from iPhoto to these sites directly, here is a simple way how you can try it:
    - create a folder on your desktop
    - name it like "WalMart pics"
    - open iPhoto
    - resize it so you can still see the folder you just created
    - select the pictures you want to send to the store in iPhoto and drag them onto the new folder
The folder now contains the pics you selected. Now go to the stores' websites and upload the pictures from that folder.
You might also use the "Share" option in iPhoto to get the photos into a folder, but I like the direct drag and drop better.

  • Lightroom 3 printing problem

Sometimes when i  save a photo as a jpeg and send it out to be printed I end up with a border on the sides or the bottom. i want the photo to fill the frame. i have been all over the tutorials through Kelby training and a book. i'm just not getting it . the margins do not want to set to zero. i do not print at home and have a cheap HP printer. i can set the paper sze to what i want but i still have he problem. Any sugestions will be appreciated.

Lightroom and printing work in ratios so to get your 3000x2000 pixel image (which is a 3:2 ratio) to fit a 14 x 11" print (14:11 ratio) you end up with with edges. So the ratios need to be the same. Best way is to set up a crop ratio in the Develop module Crop tool of 14x11 and crop the file before you export, then you can adjust any cropping to suit.
