Lightroom 3 Templates ?

Hi
Is it just me or have the templates vanished ? im sure they were there on the trial version... but not on the one iv now purchased. Anyone else lost them or have they moved them.. ?

No, if there was a problem with the trial install, and I go to try to uninstall it, it obviously saves information from the previous install.
I'm not looking for more trial days.  I'm wondering why I don't have the templates.
Is there a way to do a clean uninstall that I'm missing that may fix this issue if I uninstall and then reinstall again?
Any other solutions to why these templates may be missing?

How can I have a slideshow with various templates in the one show?
    PC based LR1.1

You mean have the slideshow start out with one slideshow template design and
then say 10 minutes in it changes to a different slideshow template?
No this can't be done. You might be able to combine two seperate pdf
slideshows generated in Lightroom using Adobe Acrobat. But, this can't be
    done in Lightroom.

  • Lightroom Photobook Templates?

I have moved across from the Apple photo products - iPhoto and then Aperture - to Lightroom. Whilst I love the editing capability within Lightroom the photo book options are very limited. There are no preset templates and it is very time consuming having to 'design' a book and pages each time. Apple have a number of templates and pre sets which are very user friendly.
Is there something I am missing in Lightroom which would make the whole experience more enjoyable? or any Add on templates which are available?
    Thanks

I have also found the book module to be tedious. I prefer to export JPEG copies, and then use software provided by my book publisher to create the book. Then I have access to all of their templates and styles. The software provided seems to make more sense to me.

  • Lightroom Filename Template Editor

While importing images from a device, I'm attempting to setup my filename structure to include Camera Type (D200). I've seen several tutorials suggesting the Filename Template Editor has a field in the "Additional" section where you can insert various EXIF information. I've downloaded the Trial version 1.3.1. I only see a variation of "Date" in the additional section. Do I have to set something up for this to be active?

There is a second drop-down list in the Additional Section of The Filename Template Editor screen and that allows you to insert fields such as camera make and model. I did not have to do any set-up to get this drop-down list to appear. (Lightroom 1.3.1, XP Pro SP2).

  • Lightroom Printer Template for Canon Pro9000

I have been trying to set up a printer template for my Canon Pro9000 that has as one of the printer settings that color management is turned off. I create a new template and/or I try to update settings on an existing template. No matter what I do, it seems like if the setting reverts to ICM. Also, it seems like it ignores the setting that I check for whether or not I want a print preview.
Are these just settings that can't be saved in a template, or am I doing something wrong?

I have a p9000 too. I am not aware that LR can set up a template with all the printer driver settings you want including turning off color management in the printer.
I always thought that every time you load light room, you have to reset all your printer driver settings in the printer driver (as well as specifying no your paper profiles and rendering intent in LR.
This ain't exactly great. I usually print in qimage which defaults to your previous settings for any given type of paper profile you choose.
    But LR isn't there yet.

  • No Lightroom Templates in Print Module Template Browser

I recently installed Lightroom 1.1 on a Windows XP Prof PC. Print/Template Browser/Lightroom Templates is empty, although other templates (e.g. Web) do appear when the appropriate module is selected.
I looked for these templates on the Lighroom CD, but didn't find any.
The folder C:\me\Application Data\Adobe\Lightroom\Print Templates contains only another empty folder User Templates. Other folders do have templates, for example, Text Templates.
Do I have to do something special to install these, or if not, and they weren't installed as they should have been during installation, where can I find them?
    Thanks,
    Martin

What photograph size on what paper size do you want to print?
You can select Contact Sheet / Grid as you layout engine and adjust the number of rows and columns.
If you want to print different photographs at arbitrary positions, you'll have to wait for LR3.

  • Lightroom 5 print templates not allowing images to be moved into cells & not allowing individual cells to be selected

I've run into a problem using the LR5 print templates that has occurred suddenly and I need help figuring out what happened.
Yesterday I tried using a Print template from my User Templates menu and the one I selected wouldn't allow an image to be dragged into a cell.  I also noticed that the template wouldn't allow me to select the cells for size adjustment, either.  Other templates had the same behavior, even the templates in the Lightroom Templates menu.
Not only that, but when I hover the mouse cursor over the template name in the menu it displays the template properly in the Preview pane above the menus, but when I click the mouse to select the template the Preview display changes to one that's completely different, which is the same as what shows in the main viewing area.
I have a few non-Lightroom templates (added by me) that work properly, but all of the Print templates in the Lightroom Templates menu show these symptoms.  How can I get the Lightroom Print Templates to behave?
    Anybody...suggestions??
    Thanks!

I'm having almost the exact same problem.    the Lightroom library is not recognizing that the files stored in a LOCAL dropbox folder are the same ones as in the library.   So if I try to "synch" library, i end up with 40k photos that are missing from my library but they are not.   They are there.

  • New Web Template: Slimbox for Lightroom!

I've produced a new gallery template for Lightroom's Web module using Slimbox, a very nice Lightbox clone.
    Check it out:

    Matt

    G'day folks,
Nice to see such lively conversation! Thanks to everyone for providing such good answers to the questions posed about my template before I was able to get on here to answer them. ;)
I've updated the template to version 1.1. Changes:
    - Added a Watermark checkbox.
    - Modified the tables around the thumbnails to produce smaller gallery pages and slightly faster loadtimes.
    - Gallery now looks for images in content/bin rather than just in bin.
I also reordered the CSS a bit. KBPhoto's changes will still work, but the CSS has been moved within the file, and I deleted a few of the labels in the CSS. Had I read these postings prior to updating the code, I'd have left them in. Sorry! Anyway, shouldn't be too difficult to figure out if anyone still wants to make the modification.
Hopefully my changes will help to remedy the "somewhat strange" rendering, but maybe not.
Not sure about rolling KBPhoto's modification into an official update of the template, as I tend to favor more reliance on CSS, but if it's a major issue for users, I'll consider it.
I also removed the 4x4 corner PNGs from the thumbnail slides. The difference is hardly noticeable, but if anyone misses them, let me know and I'll put them back in.
The latest version is available from the usual page:

  • Missing print templates - Lightroom preset ones

All the preset Lightroom PRINT templates have disappeared.  I see the folder on the left that says Print templates and Lightroom templates and user templates.  If I import templates they show up in user templates as expected but the Lightroom Templates is completely empty - just pops up new folder box.  I have checked preferences and looked for the template folder.  I just has a folder for user templates which seems to be what the problem is.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail.  I also went back and deleted old versions (3,4) and the preferences files and every other file/folder I could find relating to lightroom including catalogs.  I have lightroom installed on both my laptop and Imac.  The problem is occuring on both so it seems that accidently deleting something is unlikely.  I've never looked at the print module before so this may have been going on for a long time.
Any ideas on how to get these.
    <moved by mod from downloading,installing,setting up - kglad>

I assume you mean, Edit / Preferences...  [presets tab] Location: [Show Lightroom Presets Folder]. If you haven't yet saved any print presets of your own, then LR has not yet had any need of a User folder to contain such. So one may not yet have been made.
The easiest way to get LR to do that, (and to be sure that you are looking in the right place) : click the + icon next to Template Browser in Print module.
IOW: save a dummy print preset, doesn't matter about its contents, but enter some very distinctive name and then click Create. By default this should go into "User Templates", which is made as necessary, though you can choose to make a differently named folder if you prefer.
Full path on my Win8.1 is C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Print Templates\User Templates
Then take a look in Explorer and see what has changed - if there's any problem, you can always disk search for whatever distinctive template name you have just entered. Copy your other bought templates alongside this new dummy print preset, restart LR and you should be able to start using any of those. Delete the dummy preset in due course.
(Note that it is quite usual for built-in LR presets to be held somewhere quite different, than user created or user added items. The provided choices such as "(1) 4 x 6" and "custom 1 over 2" may not be findable anywhere on disk, for example.)

  • How to print three 4x6" prints on 8.5x11" page in Lightroom?

Is there any way to create a Lightroom print template that prints three different 4x6" images onto a single 8.5x11" page? There's plenty of room on the page to do this--it just involves printing two in one orientation and a third in the opposite orientation. For example, on a portrait letter size page print 2 portrait orientation 4x6" images butted up against one another and a third 4x6" landscape image below those.
I have figured out how to create this layout arrangement in the Picture Package portion of the Lightroom 2 print module, but then I get three copies of the *same* image whereas I want to print 3 different images. As far as I can tell the Contact Sheet/Grid printing (which prints 1 of each image) doesn't have the capacity for adding "cells" of different sizes or orientations. It offers only a simple 'rows and columns' approach to laying out photos on a page.
Ultimately my goal is to select a bunch of images in Lightroom and print one copy of each image at 4x6". I want them all printed on a series of 8.5x11" pages fitting the maximum number of images on each page. In case you're wondering, the '2x2 Cells' template that comes in Lightroom doesn't work for me because you can't quite get the size up to 4x6".
Can anyone help me? I have Lightroom 2 and Lightroom 1.4. I also have Photoshop CS3 and can't figure out how to do it there either (though I'd prefer to stay in Lightroom the whole time). I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 and I have a Canon S900 printer using Epson Premium Semi gloss Photo Paper.

    >I was afraid that was the answer. It seems like such a basic need for photographers to print 4x6's and efficiently use paper.
Believe me, you're not the first to ask about this.
    >Jao--what's a minilab? Do you mean sending them out to print either online or at a physical store?
Either. They typically use the exact same machines. I use costcos for supercheap prints with a quality that is hard to match using your own printer. They even provide profiles that give you superb color. The only problem is that you don't have a choice of papers the same way you have at home and that the gamut is a little smaller than a very good inkjet. I use several more pro services too for better papers and only occasionally print myself. Usually making me curse at the EPSON clogging inkjets (TM) make-me-lose-twice-the-amount-of-ink-per-print-as-advertised feature. Printing myself costs me 4 to 5 times as much as labs and that is when Lightroom behaves and doesn't without warning start double managing the color. Sometimes you want that personal attention though or that art paper and then the cost of the print is often negligible with respect to the sale.

  • Lightroom = Overrated, misdesigned and buggy.

So I have been using the V1.0 version of Lightroom, and all I can say is that it is overrated and most of it is just plain junk.
Don't get me wrong, the DEVELOP module is extraordinarily good, really really good, but the DEVELOP module has been surrounded by such copious crap that the overall program itself becomes a burden to use in any productive way.
Let's start with the library... what a joke. You have to import everything, a time consuming process that is utterly unnecessary if you just want to look through your files. It is buggy, slow and utterly network unfriendly. You can't copy, you can only move. It is completely unfriendly to network storage, taking 1.5 hours to do the same batch rename that a piece of shareware does in 7 minutes. The DAM capabilities are second rate at best. All for what? So I can search for keywords????
The Slideshow... useless. What good is a slideshow that doesn't let you do image ranking during a client presentation. I guess that we are expected to use pencil and paper.
Web galleries... the provided versions are amateurish at best... and the whole thing in written in some Klingon variant of XML which requires a PHD in programming just to create (or even change) a simple template.
Printing... nice but useless to me, since I send everything to a commercial printer, and the stupid module won't generate a JPEG that I can upload to the lab. And no, a simple export doesn't do it... tell me how to add a 1/4 inch margin to an 8x10x300 print file using export... can't be done.
Like I said, the DEVELOP module is fabulous. Give the Library a standard file browser capability (using just XMP sidecars), give the HTML generator a token based design so mere mortals can code for it, allow export from the print module, and make the slideshow actually useful for something and then the full program will be worth the effort.

I have been using Adobe Lightroom 1.0 for the last 3 weeks or so. I keep reading rave reviews but Im having difficulty seeing what others see. Here are some observations regarding Lightroom as a photo organizer specifically the Library module from someone (me) who is already familiar with ACDSee as an organization tool
    1. Lightroom, like other Adobe products, eats an enormous amount of resources on my PC. Loading the program with even a moderate-sized database is slow especially if I am backing up the database frequently. Navigating around can be very sluggish. (I have 1GB of memory. Maybe more would help...?)
    2. Lightroom can only see folders and photos that have already been imported into the Lightroom database. If you temporarily leave the program to process some RAW files somewhere else, for example, the JPEG or TIF files created will be invisible in Lightroom, until you import them. I think this is a stupid concept. In ACDSee, you can see everything from within the program even files that have been added using 3rd party software outside of ACDSee. Simply browsing adds stuff automatically to the database.
    3. It is not possible to drag and drop photo files from Lightroom into another program one of the drawbacks of non-destructive file editing, I suppose. I drag & drop all the time with ACDSee and actually, it is a pretty important tool if you make use of a virtual system (categories, ratings, keywords, etc.) to organize your pictures. I print with Qimage, for example, and I have trouble finding photos based on the hard drive folder structure. But if ACDSee is open in category view, I can drag and drop the photos I want to process into Qimage. This is impossible with Lightroom.
    4. It seems that Lightroom will only handle 2 external editors and one of them is Photoshop by default! Sometimes I want to send a photo to Qimage (for printing) or to DxO Optics Pro or NX (for RAW processing), or PTGui (for panorama processing). Every time I try to do this, I must change the External Editor preferences and hunt down the EXE file required to launch the program I want to use. Pretty cumbersome, I think. ACDSee allows setting up these programs so they appear as choices in the Edit menu, and it allows full use of drag and drop.
    6. I think the Lightroom Loupe view screen is too small unless you close up all the sidebars. But if you are editing, you need to keep at least the develop sidebar (on the right) open. This leaves the full-size view rather inadequate, I think.
    7. The small font is not very small. In the Library, I cannot see many of my Folders or Collections on the left without a lot of scrolling. And there is no way to distinguish between the Folder list and the Collection list they look the same and they both scroll in the same list! A different color or font option would help. The headings for these groupings (Folders, Collections, etc.) disappear from view when scrolling, making it even more difficult to figure out where I am! Poor design!
    8. What is the point of the filmstrip? There is already a grid view. Isnt the filmstrip a little redundant? Granted you can make it disappear, but whats the point of having it there in the first place? It just eats up valuable real estate on a screen that is already way too cluttered.
    8. I like the Lightroom develop module okay, but it is not as good as Photoshop CS2 for photo editing, or Capture NX for raw conversion both of which I can easily access from within ACDSee.
    9. I do like the Lightroom renaming template. It facilitates a variety of renaming options and is more flexible than the offering in ACDSee. But right now, this is about the only thing I have found to be more usable in Lightroom.
I have decided that Lightroom is sort of like one of those do everything printer/fax/scanner machines. While it can be handy, it doesnt do any of one those functions particularly well. Better to have 3 separate devices each dedicated to one of those functions exclusively.

  • Turning XML/XSLT files into a working Web Template

I've scoured these and other forums for this small piece of information, so I apologize if it's been answered already, but I can't find it.
I understand that the web templates in Lightroom are done in XML/XSLT, with the XML file named galleryMaker.xml and the XSLT file named transformer.xslt. However, I cannot figure out how to get these files to show up as a template in Lightroom.
I am on a Windows XP machine, and all the templates show up in Application Data/Lightroom/Web Templates, but they are all of the type *.lrtemplate. Is there a way to convert the XML/XSLT set of files into an lrtemplate file? Or is there something else I'm supposed to do?

I did so using the .xml file below, and it does indeed start up at boot, runs in the background,When you run your program (/usr/bin/foo), does it daemonize itself (kind of like running /usr/sbin/sshd), or would you have to do it yourself if run from the shell ('/usr/bin/foo &')?
and does everything it should. I've noticed a couple of problems, though. If I execute an init 0, the system hangs and never gets to the OK prompt. If I disable my service, an init 0 completes without any problems. An init 5 works OK, as does a shutdown from the desktop. I'm not sure what could be causing this. I thought maybe because the service was restarted over and over again...?
I gave my service a timeout value of "0", as I found that when I gave it any other value the service stopped running when the timeout expired. A seeming side effect is that my service is never listed as running, as it's start method (itself) hasn't yet completed. The manifest doesn't really want your binary as the start method. It wants to run something that starts the service, and will exit with status 0 if the startup was successful, and non-zero if the startup was unsuccessful. So you might want to write a small wrapper script (like an init.d startup script).
Take a look at the sshd.xml manifest. It doesn't start sshd, it runs '/lib/svc/method/sshd start', which is responsible for starting sshd.

  • Can I convert Flash web templates to HTML?

I constructed my website using Lightroom 5 template in flash to create photo presentations. There are templates in HTML but they are less fancy. Is there a way to translate the Flash files into HTML5?

  • Print template control

Currently the print template gives you some basic options for customization.
However, I'd like to see greater control over placement of printed metadata. For example, maybe I want image titles centered on the top, captions centered .25 inches below the image, filenames at the very bottom of the page flush left, and date @ bottom flush right, all in 40% black.
Lightroom print Templates should allow you to have such precise control.

yeah, I vote for that too!
