Lightroom 3 to 5 upgrade

Wow, I have to say I'm quite shocked about how unintuitive and misleading the Adobe website is.. All I want to do is upgrade my current version 3 of Lightroom to latest version 5. I remember this used to be a simple process a couple of years ago but now they are trying to sell me all sorts of subscription models and packages. Not even a simple option to chat with support in case of questions. I just want to upgrade my current version to the latest version and I want to buy the license, not rent it.
Can anybody help please?
Thanks!

Bob, you stated buy an upgrade from a, b, c, etc.... Upgrades are not disks but a different license requiring an earlier serial number.
I presume Boxed disks still have serial numbers but they are not upgrade serial numbers.
To your points:
1. CC is by far the biggest seller and the easiest. Yes it maybe that the standalone is harder to find...it is a small product  and percentage in a vast array of products and services. It gets an according space and position. That is my view not Adobe's.
2. I have answered and as far as I know disks have never had upgrade serial numbers. I think you went on a tangent somehow.
Last let's not slag the hand that feeds us...
From the Forum Ettiquette page:
Do
Respect others.
Assume good faith.
Thanks....
And there your presumption is incorrect. There are boxed full versions and boxed upgrade version. Both come with an appropriate serial number for the type you bought. No voucher and no need to contact Adobe for a serial number. When I installed LR 5 from the disc that came in the box below there was a serial # that when used prompted for another previous version serial number. Because it was an Upgrade serial number. Just like it is written on the box, Upgrade.
Where is anyone Slagging the hands that feeds us or being offensive to anyone. First off Adobe does not feed me and secondly whether Adobe sells a copy of Lightroom as a full or upgrade or some other Retailer sells it Adobe still makes money on it. Amazon, B&H and other retailers did not get or make the copies of LR they sell without paying Adobe for them.
As it stands you are Way Off Base with that all of that post. So much so I wonder what you have been ingesting.

after a lightroom 4.1 upgrade on my Mac OSX 10.7.4, the revel export no longer displays.  although, i can attempt to reauthorize the account the option for revel remains unavailable (see screenshot):
i've attempted to reinstall the 4.1 upgrade, but the issue persists.  please advise...

Revel is a Publish Service plug-in, not an Export plug-in.....so I wouldn't expect to find it in the Export dialog. It's down in the Publish Services at the bottom of the left-hand panel in the Library Module.

  • Lightroom 6 standalone upgrade does not install - does not validate the serial number

    Hi,
I have bought (Adobe store) yesterday and downloaded Lightroom 6 standalone upgrade (I own lightroom 4).
During the installation in Windows PC I get the following message: "We are unable to validate this serial number for Adobe Lightroom. Please contact the support"
    - the Internetconnection is fine
    - checked etc/host
    - double checked both serial numbers
It is just impossible to install the LR6 upgrade on my Windows PC. There were no problems installing and running LR4...
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

  • Having trouble getting my Lightroom 5.0 upgrade to accept my Lightroom 4.4 serial number.

I am having trouble getting my Lightroom 5.0 upgrade to accept my Lightroom 4.4 serial number. I recently installed Windows 8, 64 bit on a second solid state HD on my computer (had a virus problem for which I had to format C and reinstall everything). The new  ss HD is drive C and my operating system and my programs are all installed there. All my documents and files are now stored on my original, reformatted drive, which is now drive D. I was using Windows 7, 64 bit. Could all this be the reason my serial number is not being recognized? PHH

    Hi 48phh,
Yes Lightroom 5 takes the Serial Number of each previous version and you can do the Upgrade from any  1, 2 3, or 4 version of Lightroom, but somethig different for the Upgrade from the Mac App Store ... see how here: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/upgrade-mac-app-version-lightroom.html
you installed Windows 8 and installing only the operating system, but keeping all the app certainly and during the operation something can be lost, especially if you run Clean after installing the system by deleting the folder containing the old system, it's better to wait to do so.
However, no problem, because to do the 'Upgrade all you need is the old serial number and don't need Lightroom4 to be installed on your machine ...

  • I got a invalid signature message when downloading the Lightroom 5.2 upgrade

I downloaded the Lightroom 5.2 upgrade but got a message "Invalid signature" do I need to download again or is there an override to complete the installation?

If you are having problems, it is best not to use "Upgrade" in iTunes. DOwnload the installer from the APple site:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
SAve the installer onto your desktop rather than running it from your browser.
Then you can upgrade manually using the installer you saved.
That won't solve your problem, but it simplifies things.
You can often get round the invalid drive message by providing iTunes with the drive while you are installing. DO you know what comes up as drive H:, maybe a camera or external drive?
If you don't have something that comes up as H:, maybe you could plug in a memory stick and allocate drive H: to it.
This article about something else contains instructions for allocating a drive letter.

  • Lightroom 3.6 upgrade doesn't work

After having installed the 3.6 upgrade I have problems every time I mark an image and select the Update tab. The image is not loaded and I have to force the program to halt.
When I try to use the Adobe site to contact support my serial number for Lightroom 3 is not valid.
I have seen others with similar problens on the forum and I hope Adobe can fix the problem soon as the program is currently not usable.
I would appreciate if there is a way to go back to version 3.5?
    Regards,
    Rolf

When I mark/select a imge in my library and the click the Develop module,
the loading of the image never completes.
Sorry, I used the term Update instead of Develop because I made a bad
translation of my Swedish tab "Framkalla".
    I'm using Mac OS X 10.5.8.

  • Lightroom 4.4 upgrade

I just downloaded the Lightroom 4.4 upgrade. It won't run and I can't find the saved file  from an earlier try.
I am running a Dell Inspiron 1750 with Vista Home Premium service pack 2.

I downloaded the upgrade file, Lightroom_4_LS11_win_4_4, and assured that it would be stored in the "downloads" folder. After the download was complete, for the 7th time, I went to the downloads folder and it was not there. A search of the entire computer did not locate the file. I also assured that I was logged in as "Administrator". I am currently downloading it again. I think I have tried all the possible variations. My Vista has just been updated with service pack 3. The machine has been turned off and restarted. What else can I do? Is the download available on a disk?

I have a monthly subscription for PS and Lightroom.
When I opened Lightroom this morning, it told me an upgrade was available through CC. I probably did something wrong, butI couldn't get it to download.
I came on the forum and read a couple of discussions on your pages and found a reply that posted links to the pages where Lightroom 5.7 could be downloaded.
I clicked the link and downloaded the update fine.
However, now when Lightroom opens, it is asking whether I want to BUY or have a free 30 day trial and won't progress any further into the app.
My CC icon reveals that my software is up to date but I can't get past this register screen, without selecting BUY or FREE 30 TRIAL .

  • I have downloaded a trial version of lightroom 4 to upgrade from my lightroom 3, but it wont open.

Hi all, I have downloaded a trial version of lightroom 4 to see if I want to upgrade from my lightroom3, but it wont open on my pc. It keeps asking me what program I want to use to open it with, and when I click adobe reader it tells me that it is not a supported file type or the file has been damaged! Help!???

When I click on the program download in the download file, it asks me if I want to open it. When I click open, it then asks me which program I want to use to open it with, (this window lists all programs such as Nero, internet explorer adobe reader etc) and automatically highlights adobe reader. After I click open with the adobe reader highlighted, it then tells me that it cannot open Lightroom because it is not a supported file type, or the file has been damaged! I have downloaded it twice but neither one is able to open. Thanks so much.

  • Lightroom Migration and Upgrade

I have Lightroom 3 on my existing Windows XP PC, and I now have a new Windows 8 PC that I want to migrate to.  As part of the switch I want to upgrade to LR4, so I am planning to buy an upgrade version of LR4.
Do I have to install LR3 on the new PC before I can install the upgrade licence, or is just having the existing serial number sufficient?
If I have to install LR3 first, what is the process for migrating it from one PC to another?
    Thanks

  • Can't find Lightroom 1.3 upgrade

All the links I've found say I'm going to a download page for 1.3 (I'm on a Mac), but all I can see is 1.1 and 1.2. i.e Downloads center>Lightroom> Upgrade>Mac. All that visible are 1.1 and 1.2, even if the previous page mentions 1.3.
    Frustrating!
    Any thoughts?

  • Lightroom 3.5 upgrade will not install on my mac!

Tried several times to upgrade to version 3.5 from 3.2.  The upgrade package says it was successfully installed but the verison still says 3.2 and is not upgraded!
Any ideas to fix this problem?

To add to Zesty's correct reply, when you upgrade LR on the Mac, the previous version sticks around. If you have an icon for it in your Dock, it stays there, and if you start Lightroom from the dock, you'll pick up the old version.

  • Lightroom imported and  upgraded my elements catalog I  have the metadata and no pictures

I have photoshop elements currently and have decided to upgrade to lightroom 3.4. So I  downloaded the trial version anxious to try it, during the installation I was asked about upgrading my catalog  from elements.... sure I'm going to be using lightroom mostly from now on anyway, so I did this and started lightroom ready to play. What I found was this.... light room found all my photo's but says there is no picture to display. I can click on any "blank tile"(I'm not sure what you call them) on the screen that shows the picture name and I get the metadata for the picture but no picture. figuring the problem must be with myself I then tryed my other computer, a laptop that is not long for this world and soon to be replaced and the program works!!! ??  As I said the laptop is dying and only works when it wants to,but both my machines are running vista32bit, same photo's the only thing is different is I store my photo's on my desktop's external harddrive. So thinking that could be the problem I stored them main hard drive still no luck I also tryed reinstalling the program, reupgrading the catalog.
The little bit of lightroom I have played with; (on the laptop when it works) I 've got to have this program!!! only I can't get it to work.
    help!!!
    Mike

I'm guessing here, but it could be the external HD is referenced differently by Elements and by Lightroom.
In Lightroom, go to the folder panel on the left and see what letter drive Lightroom thinks the photos are located on. Then go to Windows and see if this drive has the same letter. If the letters don't match, then the solution is relatively simple (I think), you need to change the drive letter in Windows to match what Lightroom thinks it should be (although this *could* screw up the Elements Catalog, if you will still be using it). An alternative solution is to tell Lightroom that the photos are on a different drive, by going to the top level folder in Lightroom, right clicking on it, and select Find Missing Folder and point it to the proper location of the photos.

  • Lightroom 5.7 upgrade won't run.

LR 5.6 ran fine on my Surface Pro 2, but the upgrade ran for about 60s and froze.  Now it won't start at all.  Tried reinstalling (repair) twice; still will not start.  I hesitate to remove the program completely for fear I'll lose the purchase code.  Haven't tried reinstalling 5.6 over 5.7.

    you need your serial number.
    do you have that secured?
if so, you can uninstall and reinstall.  if you do you may as well install lr 5.7.1 directly.,
if not, you can recover using belarc advisor,
