Lightroom 3 will not start, even after deleting the .LOCK file.

I have read about deleting the .lock file and that did not work. I have restarted my computer and that did not work. I tried opening a backup catalog and that did not work. I delete the .lock .journal and the catalog and the resorted from the back up. It created a new cataloge but it still did not work.
Any Ideas?
All my software is updated. and was working before.

Thanks for the help. However it did not work.
I held the Option key and was able to create a catalog. I should explain LR3 tries to start. Then I get a message that LR3 unexpectedly quit. I am trying one more thing. I only had 15GBs of space on the HD. I am clearing more space to see if that works. I had updated the OS too.
OS is Lion 10.7.3
and LR3 3.6

Lightroom crashed and now I can't open the catalog - even after deleting the lock file.

Lightrooms crashed, which is a common occurrance. But, this last time was different. After I restarted it my catalog was not linked and all my settings were gone. I tried opening the catalog through the file menu, but absolutely nothing happens. I tried going to the folder and clicking on it but this only opens lightroom with no catalog. After having scanned this forum I found that I need to delete the .lock file, but after doing that the same things happen. Any suggestions on how to open my catalog? The problems mostly happen when I am using X-Y compare in Library mode. It shows black rectancles over the tops of the sections that contain the photos and these flash. They aren't always the same size, but are only on the top of the section - never big enough to completely cover the photos. Then I get anywhere from one to about four or five extra windows stacked on top of the Lightroom Icon at the bottom of my screen (I use Windows 8) opening and closing, though there isn't enough time for me to click on them and read them because my computer gets so slow that my mouse actin is delayed by a few seconds. And, to shut Lightroom down, I need to use Windows task manager because clicking on the little red box with the X in the upper right corner accomplishes nothing. I have changed the product because it seems that you are taking about the Firefox for Desktop Browser. If this is incorrect please post back with a correction.
I also understand that you are downloading songs, and instead of the save dialogue, you are being taken to a black page to play the song. Please see if this happens in Safe Mode, as well when you troubeshoot any default programs if you are using Windows.

Firefox 5 hangs after new install at Checking the Add Ons and will not start even after reboot

Downloaded V5, ran the install, started Firefox and first screen is 'Checking Add Ons', the status bar is shown and immediately hangs. Have tried to restart, have rebooted and start and Firefox will not come up. Have to drop back to V3.6

This can be a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the files extensions.* (extensions.sqlite, extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox [[Profiles|profile folder]] to reset the extensions registry. New files will be created when required.

If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar (or click the "Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to do a compatibility check or see if there is an update.

Flash plugin will not install even after installing the latest version Flash

When I go to a site that contains Flash content, it says "A plugin is needed to display this content" and there is a link to install the plugin. Additionally, there is a message at the top of the page that says "Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page" with an option to "Install Missing Plugins." I click the link to install the missing plugin, and a dialog box pops up that says "The following plugins are available:" and lists "Adobe Flash Player 11.0.1.152" with a check box next to it. The box is checked, and I click "Next" to install. It goes through the motions, and then tells me that "No plugins were installed." There is a link to manually install the plugin, which takes me to Adobe's Flash download page. I unchecked the box to pair McAfee Security with the download, and downloaded the latest version of Flash (to be honest, I've actually downloaded this exact same version about 10 times today). The dialog box pops up, I save the file, and once it has downloaded, I open the containing folder (my downloads folder). I then close all programs (including Firefox) except for the Windows Explorer folder that I'm going to run the installer from. I double-click on the Flash installer to run the installation. The installation process completes, the installer tells me that the download is successful, and my browser opens back up with an "Installation Successful" message from the Adobe website. Yay! My installation is successful... Orrrrrr not. Navigating back to the page with the Flash media - still have a message saying I need the plugin. Attempt to download plugin again...no dice.
THEN, I go to "Manage my add-ons" thinking maybe I need to enable the plugin. There is no Flash (or Shockwave) plugin listed on any of the menus - it's like it doesn't exist.
I downloaded the latest version of Java because I read somewhere that Flash requires Java to work; I installed the "Add-On Compatibility Reporter" so I could force Java to be enabled. It made no difference whatsoever, as best I can tell.
I also went to Adobe's page where you can see what version of Flash you're running (http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/) and it doesn't even show that I have Flash installed. In Internet Explorer, it does show that I have Flash installed, but it's the previous version (but that is likely due to the fact that I downloaded Flash from Mozilla, not IE, and they use different modes in each browser - so an update that you download from one browser does not necessarily apply to the other browser).
So in summary: I do not know what on earth is wrong here, but I am about as frustrated as I have ever been in my life. I don't know why the Adobe Flash installation is saying it is successful (is it lying to me??), but there is no plugin showing up in my Manage Add-Ons menu, and I have googled every possible combination of the content in this post and have not found a solution that works yet.

NOTE: Just discovered that Adobe is making a bigger mess than any previously.
They now have a 32-bit uninstaller for Flash '''''AND''''' a separate 64-bit uninstaller for Flash. You will need the 64-bit uninstaller for what you had installed above.

My MacBook Pro will not charge, even after resetting the SMC.

My MBP will not charge. It's only a little less than 2 years old. I've reset the SMC and even an employee at the genius bar has, it still isn't charging. When I plug in the cord, my battery remains at 13% with a plug icon inside the battery. When I click on the battery, it says "Battery Not Charging" in gray.

Let me continue plst files, deleted old install and re-installed, downgraded version, ran disk warrior, tried new user account. Backed up everything re-installed fresh OS, still did not start, installed update plus latest version of iTunes. Still does not start. Called Apple support, did the usual permissions repair etc..... Ran Apple Hardware Test no problems found, TechTools Deluxe no problems, MemTest no problems.
On hold now waiting for Apple support again. I am assuming at this point there is a unknown hardware issue. Any ideas?

You really went the extra mile trying to pin down the culprit! So.... who was the culprit anyway? which hub? the keyboard acts as hub, was this powered or un-powered, too? which would be of interest.
Instead of hub, maybe a PCIe USB2 card?

After being insessantly nagged to install the latest version of iTunes (11.1.4.62) I atempted to do so. I refuses to install correctly citing a problem with the remote device installer (?). Can I install the previous version? How do I get it?

Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
I understand that you have already uninstalled iTunes, but when you get to this step, it is important to uninstall iTunes and the related components in the order listed in the link for that step.

Will not start even in safe boot after installing latest camera update

MacBook Pro will not start even in safe boot after installing latest camera update.
I started my machine and did a software update. Only the camera update needed. So installed and when required I pressed restart. It restarted and did install. Then restarted again. I expected to get to the login screen and it turned itself off. Tried three more times. Each time shutting off. I unplugged everything, and pressed start waiting for log in window. No it shutdown before the log in window. I then tried safe mode and that did not work either on three more occasions.

I have managed to resolve some issues. I can now restart the machine via a CD boot. If I do cmd C into something like tech tool pro, then restart from that disks menu it restarts every time.
If I try a safe start it shuts down. If I try a normal start it shuts down. I have managed to repair permissions and that cleared up some start up permissions but with no improvement to the boot problem. The only way to load is via the cmd-C boot option. Any other ideas?
