Lightroom 4.1 RC2 (1:1 previews, slow editing large files, stops working)

I am running win7 64 bit with 12GB RAM and installed  Lightroom 4.1 RC2. 1) I am (trying) to edit large panoramic files, and the 1:1 preview images do not seem to be saved from session to session. Images take quite a while to load in Library and even longer in Develop. 2) There seems to be a major memory leak. Upon startup I can edit a couple of panos, but then the machine becomes very slow and basically quits working. 3) I don't see "x64" in the tile bar. Is it running 64 bit?

Running Win7 64-bit here as well and installed LR 4.1 RC2 last week.  There is definitely a memory leak of some sort, as I too am experiencing major latency after a few minutes of editing.  When I check memory usage in Task Manager, I'm seeing more than 2GB (of 4GB) of RAM being consumed by LR and my machine is running like molasses.

  • Preview window in Build Inspector stopped working

I installed Keynote '09 this morning to finish an iPad presentation. I've worked all day and am nearly finished, when suddenly, the preview window in the Build inspector stopped working. Now, it is not showing any of my changes and none of my new actions work properly. What did I do? How do I fix this. I am on a deadline!!!!
Using a Mac Desktop at work with OSX 10.5.8.

Well, I just seemed to have solved the problem...at least as I was experiencing it. As mentioned, I have my Motion content on an external drive, so I decided to revisit this.
I had installed all my Final Cut Studio content on the external drive using the "Content Installer" (after first installing the apps to my laptop). When opening Motion for the first time, it couldn't find the content so I manually typed in the appropriate path...or so I thought:
250GB Drive : Final Cut Studio Content : Motion Content.
Oddly enough, a few things worked this way, but not everything. It turns out I had to specifically point one folder deeper:
250GB Drive : Final Cut Studio Content : Motion Content : Motion
After doing this, all my content seems to preview, although there still are a few anomalies. Some things have to be clicked on more than once to preview, or sometimes I must preview something else first, then try the desired effect a second time. In some cases waiting quite a while produces something.
I'll try moving the cursor about as Mabou suggested and see if that makes any difference.
    At least I'm getting somewhere!
    Thanks,
    Doug

  • The "edit in photoshop" stopped working in my lightroom 5.7.1 since the last update of photoshop.

I have read that there are two solutions: reinstall Photoshop or install the plugin from Adobe. Someone with the same problems that have found another solution? Should not the latest version of photoshop have solved this? It's an old known problem!

Lightroom has an entirely separate, dedicated forum.

  • Creation of previews/thumbnails of PSD files not working in v3.0.1

I'm using Aperture 3.0.1, PS 4 to edit photographs.
My workflow will be the usual, Photo > Edit with Adobe PS, in my Aperture browser thumbnails/previews will be created for the PS file.
When I save my work in PS, the thumbnails and previews in Aperture are not being updated properly, show horizontal magenta/cyan lines, noise, clearly some of the layers are not being processed, some layers are not being resized to the right preview format, it's a complete mess.
I tried to delete/update previews, no difference.
It's an absolute shame, this worked perfectly in Aperture 2.1 and is absolutely necessary in my workflow. I'm seriously thinking to go back to 2.1.
Anyone with suggestions to get this working? Thanks

Having some similar problems and unfortunately some different ones as well...
I would love to know any tips you might have in identifying the "faulty" PSD files that Aperture 3 cannot deal with or more like the the PSD files that FAULTY Aperture cannot deal with (they worked fine in 2.1.4, Preview, iPhoto, etc).
I ask because the problem I have is that as soon as I hit one file that never finishes generating a thumbnail for, then I am done since everything else just queues up behind it and I can't diagnose anything else. As I said in an earlier post, HOW HARD CAN IT BE TO INCLUDE USEFUL DIAGNOSTIC INFO IN THE "ACTIVITY WINDOW", so that we could tell which images are being "processed" (or more importantly not being processed).

  • DW MX 2004 Slow with large files?

I'm using DW MX 2004 with a static website with a few
    thousand files.
It's very slow when opening multiple files at the same time
    or
    opening a large html file.
But DW4 is fine, nice and quick compared with DW MX 2004.
Is there any way to help DW MX 2004 work better with these
    files?
    Many thanks, Craig.

    Many thanks.
But already running the 7.0.1 update.

  • Anybody know if there is an update to Lightroom 5 due out today? Need to edit raw files from Nikon d750.

See heading. I was advised a few weeks back that an update was due out today. Can anyone confirm the same?

Native Lightroom support for the D750 was added in the Lightroom 5.7 update released this evening.
    Release details:

  • Slow with large file

We are using Spry to build applications to show lots of old
pictures and the story obout them in local Historical Societis
around here in Sweden. To secure the information for the future we
save in xml. We have one application with 2900 pictures but it is
slow when changing catygories. Look at
    http://www.sockenbilder.se/forsa/
    Help please! Jan-Åke

    Hi,
    I've looked at your application.
One thing I've noticed is the fact that you disabled the
cache for the XMLDataSets. Is this really intended in your case? (I
mean, is the XML file changing very often?) When using such large
XML files, the use of cache is recommended in order to improve the
    speed of the application.
If changing { useCache: true } is really not an acceptable
solution for you, maybe you should try breaking up your XML file in
separate files for each photo category (just like in our demo).
    Hope this helps you,
    Best regards,
    Dragos

  • CS6 very slow saving large files

I have recently moved from PS CS5 to CS6 and have noticed what seems to be an increase in the amount of time it takes to save large files. At the moment I am working with a roughly 8GB .psb and to do a save takes about 20 minutes. For this reason I have had to disable the new autosave features, otherwise it just takes far too long.
CS5 managed to save larger files, more quickly and with less memory available to it. Looking at system resources while Photoshop is trying to save, it is not using its full allocation of RAM specified in performance preferences and there is still space free on the primary scratch disc. The processor is barely being used and disc activity is minimal (Photoshop might be writing at 4mb/s max, often not at all though according to Windows).
I am finding the new layer filtering system invaluable so would rather not go back to CS5. Is this is a known issue or is there something I can do to speed up the saving process?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the quick replies.
Noel: I did actually experiment with turing off 'maximize compatibility' and compression and it had both good and bad effects. On the plus side it did reduce the save time somewhat, to somewhere a little over 10 minutes. However it also had the effect of gobbling up ever more RAM while saving, only leaving me with a few hundred mb's during the save process. This is odd in itself as it actually used up more RAM than I had allocated in the preferences. The resulting file was also huge, almost 35 GB. Although total HD space isn't a problem, for backing up externally and sharing with others this would make things a real headache.
Curt: I have the latest video driver and keep it as up to date as possible.
Trevor: I am not saving to the same drive as the scratch dics, although my primary scratch disc does hold the OS as well (it's my only SSD). The secondary scratch disc is a normal mechanical drive, entirely separate from where the actual file is held. If during the save process my primary scratch disc was entirely filled I would be concerned that that was an issue, but it's not.
Noel: I have 48 GB with Photoshop allowed access to about 44 of that. FYI my CPU's are dual Xeon X5660's and during the save process Photoshop isn't even using 1 full core i.e. less than 4% CPU time.

  • Sticky notes in 11.0.11 ridiculously slow and place signature stopped working

I used to regularly use the sticky notes feature in Acrobatto review documents, and I also used to regularly use the Place Signature feature to "sign" documents.  These features used to work absolutely fine.  However, recently, they have stopped working.  When I type text in a sticky note, it takes about 30 seconds to appear - making it completely impossible to work with.  At the same time, the Place Signature feature has completely stopped working alltogether.  Finally, I notice my laptop gets extremely hot, and battery life is about 1/4 of what it used to be.  Yesterday, I removed Acrobat and installed a fresh copy downloaded from the Adobe website.  This solved the signature problem for about 1 hour, but now it is not working again, and the sticky note feature is still unworkable.  Can anyone help please.

    Hi Sara,
Version is 11.0.10 on Windows 7 Professional
I have 186 GB free space.  No issues with other applications.
Today, it was so bad it actually froze.  So I cancelled the process in task manager.  There appeared to be 2 AcroRd32.exe *32 processes running, and after I stopped them and started Acrobat again, it seems to be OK.  Note that I had already re-booted my complete machine before doing this, so if something is calling up “double Acrobat”, it is doing it on start-up.
    Regards,
    Tony

  • Mac Finder previews for .AI files not working

    [I'm using fully updated OS X 10.8.5, using Illustrator CS6 16.0.4]
In the Finder, all my .AI files show up only as a generic AI file icon. Trying to Preview the files in the Finder also only show the generic icon.
I've tracked down the QuickLook Generator locations, and found that I've got a generator named "illust.qlgenerator". But when I run in the Terminal.app this command: "qlmanage -t <ai file>" tells me this:
    [WARNING] Plug-in at file://localhost/Library/QuickLook/illust.qlgenerator/ is 32bit
[ERROR] Can't load plug-in at file://localhost/Library/QuickLook/illust.qlgenerator/: The bundle “PDF” couldn’t be loaded because it doesn’t contain a version for the current architecture.
That Quick Look Generator is only 32-bit, which seems to be causing problems.
When I moved it to a different folder to disable it, then the native PDF.qlgenerator takes over, and puts the obnoxious grid behind the previews.
Problems with the OS X PDF QuickLook generator:
Obnoxious grid behind the actual content instead of resizing to maximize the thumbnail
Native .AI files saved without PDF compatibility show no preview, just "This is an AI file without PDF content"
To get the preview, saving with PDF compatibility would double the file size. Double.
And I still get the grid.
Is there a native Illustrator QuickLook Generator? I don't want to uninstall and reinstall CS6 just to find there's no difference. Does CS6 install any better previews than I'm getting? Another Mac user with the same setup shows beautiful full-color previews of the same AI sample files without requiring PDF compatibility or the obnoxious grid.
    Thanks
    Darryl Z

    Hi Monika,
Unfortunately, I neglected to mention that because I work with very large illustrations with many layers, paths and nested symbols the PDF preview is not very fast.
I prefer not to save a complete pdf inside my AI files because it multiplies the file size which I find slows the cloud synchronisation of the very large files I work on.
A quick raster preview would be the most performant option, lazy loading any available pdf or ai render if the item was enlarged.
    Thanks,
    Luke

  • Preview in iMovie suddenly stopped working

I was working on a project, and suddenly the preview window, on te right stopped working.
I can't edit the project anymore, can't view it, can't export it, ..
I tried a lot of thing, like reinstalling imovie, moving the files, rebooting, ...
    Nothing seems to work
    Help me out please
PS: previewing imported clips does work

Cool! I've been seeing a lot of messages on the iMovie Discussion Group with similar symptoms. And one of the newer contributors to the list (calbe) kept recommending doing this step, of moving the last project out of the folder. And to my surprise it worked consistently. So now I'm recommending it to anyone who has a crash, lockup or any kind of Force Quit that then leads to iMovie being completely unstable afterwards.
And if you have the time or interest, as a further preventative measure you can also try moving the iMovie Preference file out of the Library. This forces iMovie to create a new preferences file. The benefit would be that Preferences file is notorious for causing problems after a Force Quit sometimes. To find the preference file go to the Mac Desktop and choose the Go Menu > *Hold down the Option key (this reveals the Library folder), click on Library (it appears grayed out but you can click on it. Inside of the Library>Preferences>com.apple.iMovieApp.plist (drag that file to the trash or the desktop). Make sure you have quit iMovie before doing this step, after you move the preference .plist file, open iMovie and make sure all your Events/Projects are visible and you can skim them with photos, titles all showing up.
Deleting the iMovie preferences file is not a requirement but more a preventative measure to keep iMovie humming along.

  • Lightroom 6 creats smart previews slower than lightroom 5 why?

Can anyone tell me if this is a bug or something else... i couldn't beleive when I import my first gallery !!!  IT WAS TOO SLOW (the smart previews import)!
I try the same gallery with Lightroom 5 and brought the smart previews in seconds !!

Thanks , I will follow the tread that you have mentioned.
I read it just now and it is a deception. not sure that was a good idea for me to upgrade LR 5.7.1 to 6 "beta" as quick...
hopping new updates will increase and optimize the CPU utilization

  • Editing pdf files in Preview painfully SLOW with mavericks! Why? How to fix?

Editing pdf files in Preview is painfully SLOW with Mavericks! With mountain lion everything was so smooth .... Why? How can I fix this?

I stopped using preview. Adobe Acrobat Pro is running fine ... this is not a solution to the problem though. The question remains open: why is preview not running as before?
    Why did I upgrade?!

  • I love lightroom but am finding the adjustment brush slow to respond to brush strokes

My cpu works fine with huge photoshop files - why is lightroom so slow to draw adjustment strokes or erase the mask?

i experience the same behavior regardless of LR version (1.x, 2.x and now 3.x) from time to time. the file size - 10MP or 21MP DNG files does not seem to matter. the behavior seems to occur random since most of the time the brush works fine. often i experience it in fullscreen mode. i also had the idea that my 8GB DDR2 RAM machine may be responsible or something within LR that cannot handle an excess of 4GB RAM. it often helps to restart LR to get rid of the jerky brush (i guess purging the cache as in olden days with PS and large files). another idea is that my switching between LR fullscreen mode and ie the desktop or another running program (winamp, outlook etc) may cause the glitch for some reason as i have seen similar behavior in video games which shut down after several trips to the desktop. now as i mentioned i have no exact idea why this behavior is caused i am only stating my experience with LR. before this post i did not even regard this behavior as exceptional and just put it off as being "typical LR" since i have had it for so long.
btw in the time i had LR (since 1.x beta version came out) my hardware configuration changed several times always improving the computational power of the machine but this behavior always remain. my catalogue in 2.6 which handles my EOS 400D files (10MP DNG) has about 60.000 images and my catalogue in LR 3.b2 which handles my EOS 5D MKII files (21MP DNG) has 2.000 images. so i would not blame it on catalogue size. the HDD the images and catalogues are on is a Samsung HD154UI 650GB SATA 2 drive with 7.200 rpm and 32MB cache (in case that should matter).
    cheers
    viktor
ps: although i have 8GB RAM LR has never used more than 2GB of it - also the system (vista 64bit ultimate) never used more than 4.8GB RAM regardless of filesize and application i run. there is always more than 50% RAM idle and not being used - what is that about? all 8GB and all 4 RAM modules are being recognized fine.
