Lightroom 4.1 Slideshow Skipping Issue

I have tried creating a slideshow in Lightroom 4.1 and followed all of the necessary steps Adobe has provided. On computer the slideshow seems fine but ufortunately, when I burn the slideshow to a DVD for Television, the slides skip. I think it may have something to do with the rendering of the slides as they are moving from one picture to the next. anyone have any tips for making the files smaller or another way around this problem? I heard something about Blu-Ray disks are better for Television slideshows compared to regular DVDS. Does anyone know if this is accurate? Also I use Garageband to link songs together and bring that into Lightroom and fit to music. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cabrini,
We haven't got any issues reporting aruond the issue like this.
Could you please try to export the slideshow file to the drive i.e. Desktop and check the file.
If the file doesnt have anything  missing then if you use any software to write the files over to DVD it shouldnt miss any data.
You can follow the link below to make sure the workflow followed by you is fine.

  • Lightroom 5.2 Slideshow "Export Video" over exposed

Hello,  In using Lightroom 5.2 Slideshow (current version), I can export PDF and Jpeg versions of the Slideshow which look good.  When I add music and Export Video slideshow the exposure goes up by +1.5 to +2.  Help!
I have gone to "Preferences", "Presets", "Store presets with this catalog" (checked)
    Thanks,
    Mike84

The video on SMugMug looks very good on my Windows 7 system using both IE 9 and FireFox 24, so it appears there is nothing wrong with the LR video. Check your Grapics adapter's control panel. I'm running an Nvidia graphics card- Right click on a blank area of the Desktop and select Nvidia Control panel, or whatever graphics adapter panel you have.
Try setting the 'Video' section of your panel back to 'Restore Defaults,' or do it manually. In addition, there is a know issue with Nvidia drivers that causes black levels to look washed-out. If using an Nvida card folow the settings shown in the screenshot below and set the 'Dynamic Range' to 'Full (0-255)' and NOT 'Limited (16-235).' Make sure the Conrol panel Video section Gamma and Color settings are at their default settings.
If still having this issue download the latest driver from Nvidia's or AMD's website and install it. If still having the issue provide your OS version, graphics adapter model, and graphics driver version.

  • Lightroom 3 Slide Show Quality Issues Anyone?

I am experiencing slideshow quality issues with LR 3.2 using Canon 5D MKII 21 Mp RAW files. My Canon Digital Rebel 6 Mp RAW files produced high-quality slideshow PDFs using LR1 and LR2. The 5DMKII RAW files produce soft PDF imaging, regardless of preview rendering or slide show export settings in LR3, and I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING! I then went back and tried doing a LR3.2 slideshow PDF with my Digital Rebel 6Mp files and they are much higher resolution, regardless of the settings in LR 3.2 – The exact opposite of my 5DMKII slideshows. Go figure, the 6Mp images are superior in LR 3 slideshow than the 21Mp 5DMKII images!
I developed a simple work around that improves the quality of slideshow PDFs when using larger Mpixel file images:
    1)      Select the images you want use for your slideshow and export them to JPEG, sRGB, 80-100% Quality, Resize to fit: 1536 x 1024 Resolution, NO Output Sharpening
    2)      Import the 1536 x 1024 JPEG files and place them into a collection, sort their order, and add caption or title information if needed.
    3)      Open the collection in Slideshow Module and select a template you like, or create your own custom template.
    4)      Play the slideshow and let it create previews when prompted. Adjust slideshow template settings until happy with the layout.
    5)      When finished with the slide show template, save as it as a ‘New Template’ for future use.
    6)      Next select ‘Export PDF Slideshow,’ Quality 80-100, Width 1600, Height 1200, and Save.
    7)      View the slideshow ‘Full Screen’ in PDF reader. It should have much higher resolution than normal slideshow export when using > 8 Mp files.
It takes a few extra steps, but not much additional time to create slideshows using this method.
Adobe must be aware of this problem, and probably does not apply sharpening to files >8Mp for PDF slideshow export to correct for over sharpening of Portrait images. This is just a guess! If you export RAW images to full size JPEGs and use these JPEG files to create a PDF slideshow, the Portrait images will look over-sharpened in Adobe reader! Using my work around process, the landscape and portrait images appear fairly uniform in sharpness, even though the portrait images are 2/3 the resolution of the portrait images ( 1024 x 683 versus 1536 x 1024). This is one of the issues Adobe needs to correct with the Slideshow Module PDF Export program module.
That must be hard to do! Let’s see, who is the developer of Acrobat and PDF format…Oh I forgot it’s ADOBE! As a 45-year veteran of the computer technology industry I've seen worse things, but this is very disappointing when you consider Lightroom is now a “mature” version 3 generation program! Yes, Separate slideshow programs are available, but why should you need to use one if all you want is “basic” slideshow capability!

After much trial and error I discovered using the 'Widescreen' template provided in the slideshow module provides very sharp imaging for PDF export. I haven't tried video export, but I would assume it is similar. I cannot explain why this is, because even when I change the guides from 0px to say 60px (i.e. no longer widescreen fill) the images are sharper than using any other template.
Try using 'Widescreen' template. Then try adjusting the guides using 'Widescreen’ template, and save as a new user template. I have no idea why it makes a difference, but it does!

  • Lightroom 1.1 Slideshow Issues

    Hello,
When I click the "play" arrow, or "Impromptu" key from the top tool bar, or "Play All" icon from the right hand of the screen, or any other attempt to get my slideshow to play, all I get is a black screen. I hit "escape", and it immediately goes back to the slideshow I created. If I click the "play" arrow in center screen, it is black inside the center, but I can see that the slideshow is actually "playing" because I see the number of the slide is changing, and at the correct rate (2.0 seconds, with 1.0 second fade). I have changed all settings everywhere and flaggings to try to "see" my slideshow, but just a black screen appears.
The odd thing is that if I exit out of lightroom, and re-open the application, I can get the "play" arrow and "impromptu" button to work a couple times, then they stop working. So I have actually seen the slideshow work a couple times.
If I export the slideshow and save it in Adobe as PDF, it actually saves my pictures, but I have to individually click the pictures in order to see them; there is no slideshow per se.
Any help is appreciated. This is my first attempt at a slideshow so I'm hoping it is my fault, but I'm a little weary because I have gotten it to work a couples times, by pressing buttons that don't work other times. I'm at my wit's end here.
    Thanks,
    Mindy Lewis

If you are on Windows (and most who experience this issue seem to be) ... try turning off hardware acceleration as a short term workaround:
    - right-click an empty area of your desktop, choose properties
    - click the Settings tab
    - click Advanced
    - click the Troubleshooting tab
    - set hardware acceleration to None
    - click OK to exit
See if that makes a difference. An updated driver is the best solution, but in its absence this may do the trick.

  • Lightroom 5.4 Slideshow issues

I upgraded to 5.0 a couple of weeks ago.  I upgraded to 5.4 yesterday.  I went to run a previously saved slideshow with music, fades, etc.  the slide show runs, but the screen is black, no images.  I created a new slide show in 5.4 and smae problem.  Has anyone else seen this issue  Why can't I speak to Adobe"? I paid for this software and can't get company support for an obvious bug.  Any ideas out there?

Is there anyone that can help? This is frustrating to say the least. The edits are taking effect, but only showing on the filmstrip. If I go back to library the edits are there, and will then show in develop when I take it back again. This makes it just about impossible to apply anything like cloning, or minute edits, because I can't see them when they happen!!

  • Lightroom cc slideshow sync issues

I created a lightroom cc slideshow which includes watermarks, text, music, pan and zoom, etc.
I have the slideshow synced with my account. I can see the slideshow synced on my ipad and web.
When viewing the synced slideshow on the web and my ipad, , none of the slideshow features are included. There are no watermarks, no text, no music,  no pan and zoon etc.  The slideshow looks exactly like any other collection.
Is there a way I can view the synced slideshow so that it plays as in LR CC on my computer?
    Is this a feature limitation?
    Thanks,
    -Bob

You can only sync the photos in the collection, not a Slideshow, Book etc that you may have crated from same on your desktop. So, yes it's a feature limitation. If you want the slideshow to run on your iPad you'll need to first export it as a movie file from Lightroom then import on to the iPad.

  • Lightroom 2.7 slideshow sound problem

Have a new Mac book pro and am using the latest version of I Tunes.  When using the Slideshow module the Sound is intermitent ( works some time and then doesn't) anyone have the same problem.  This is only a Lightroom problem, as I'm not having any problems with other programs.

  • Encore 2.0 mpeg i-frame slideshow compatibility issue

I suspect this is more a glitch report than a question but just in case someone else encounters it only to become completely baffled, it may save them much time and frustration.
Most of the technical information is from Adobe Support Knowledgebase Article Document 332456 "Troubleshoot preview and playback issues (Adobe Encore DVD 2.0) http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/332456.html
My problem was as follows; I created many slideshows consisting of 60 bmps each. Encore imported/scaled and swapped to png's/and previewed them fine. Each slideshow had a 6 second duration for each slide with no transitions or pan and zoom enabled. It was only when I had burnt to a DVD-R and played them using my Philips DVD player that "occasionaly" the 2nd slide of "some" (not all) slideshows would only appear for a split second before progressing. And so ignorning the 6 second duration set for the slideshow as a whole. If I would then go back to the root menu and play it again, most times the 2nd slide would hold for the 6 seconds. Similarily even when the 2nd slide was skipped if I did chapter back to it, it would then display for the intended 6 seconds. So you can see why I was completely baffled by "why only the second slide" and "why only occasionally" (as after all this is hardware and logically should behave the same under the same circumstances each time).
This then led me to the above mentioned Adobe support article which I will quote from; "Many DVD players, both set-top and software, handle playback of slideshows differently. To conserve disc space, Encore DVD creates an MPEG I frame for each slide then assigns a duration for that frame based on the slide's duration. Many players cannot accurately display these and will instead display only a single frame of the image before reverting to a black screen for the duration of the slide."
The article then goes on to propose a work around which essentially involves using pan/zoom or even Premiere Pro to create a video version of the slideshow. All which would avoid using the mpeg i-frame method.
My only guess as to the cause of my problem is that maybe Encore's method of encoding mpeg i-frames may not strictly adhere to what is defined by the mpeg-2 specification. This claim is based mainly on two pieces of evidence:
    1) On the same Philips LX3000D player I can play without problems other i-frame based slideshows created using other DVD authoring software (mainly tested with Ulead)
    2) If I burn any Encore project with slideshows to a DVD folder and play that folder, my version of Cyberlink PowerDVD XP 4.0 (or Windows Media Player which would use the same mpeg decoder anyway) will completely ignore any set slideshow duration or other settings and simply display each slide for about 1 second.
As there appears to be no mention of a similar problem in all the forums I realise that it must work fine for other users. But just in case someone else has come across it I would be most interested to hear any conflicting/co-oberative evidence you might have.

Yes when I compare the size of the VOBs they are of similiar size. Maybe this is another clue as two slideshows made exactly the same way using two authoring programs (one being Encore) produce slightly different size vob files. I assume they might be using different data rates but again the mpeg specification for i-frames stipulates that their data rate is defined at something like 2.0 mbps.

  • Lightroom 5.3 Slideshow Crash

Every time I try to do a slideshow Lightroom crashes.  The first time it crashed during the slideshow.  Now it crashes at the end of the slideshow.  I am running on a PC with Windows 7.
Does anybody have any suggestions.  I tried deleting my previews and still had the same problem.
    Thanks,

Well, I've found a solution for this that works for me. It came from another post on the forum on same topic: http://forums.adobe.com/message/6002108
Basically, you need to delete the Previews.lrdata file associated with the Catalog you're trying to use the Slideshow on/with. Then open the Catalog and let LR rebuild the previews. Slideshow should now work ok.
Very disappointed that no-one from Adobe has taken the time to acknowledge this issue or even have the courtesy to give paying customers some basic support on this.
Not good Adobe. Stop counting your Creative Cloud cash and get back to work.

  • Why are Lightroom 4.1 Slideshow Module Export Video 720p and 1080p ending up as Interlaced Video?

In Lightroom 4.1 (Windows 7 64 bit) when I create a slideshow in the Slideshow Module, use Export Video 720p or 1080p, the properties of the export do not agree with the name of the preset suggesting a fundamental discrepancy in what is stated and what is.
The MediaInfo properties readout for this type of export is showing Scan Type = Interlaced and Scan Order = Top Field First. How is this possible for 720p and 1080p which are designations for progressive video (no Fields)? However, the readout will show the expected frame rates, 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080 for 720p and 1080p respectively.
I suspect that this is not a misread by MediaInfo since a Mac user shows the same "interlaced" & "upper field first" information using a Mac Video Specs application for the properties readout for the Slideshow Module Export Video 1080p.

The LR slideshow module has had problems since its initial introduction and the issues have not been fixed in LR4.1. There is also an issue of resample artifacts (jaggies) when using portrait orientaion images in a slideshow on Windows platforms.. See this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3793720#3793720
Here's an excerpt from the above thread link:
LR has at least three different implementation versions, concerning this LR Slideshow Module behavior:
                             Stroke Border           Portrait Images
Mac OS:            Causes softness         OK (no resample artifacts)
Windows Vista:  No issues                    Resample artifacts (jaggies)
Windows 7:        Causes softness         Resample artifacts (jaggies)

  • Lightroom V1.1 slideshow not working and slow

Just and FYI to all out there that are having the above issue. I contacted Adobe and they said that to correct this issue you need to update your graphics card driver to the latest version. I did this on mine and it corrected both problems. It a little hassle as I had to redo my Spyder profiles, but after that it is much faster and slide show works at full graphics acceleration. S Nelson

In 1.3 release, there is a workaround available for Mac users with older video cards. In the 1.1 release we switch to using GPU accelerated slideshows via Apple's Quartz Composer technology. Unfortunately, some older video cards aren't supported by Quartz Composer. Check your system log using Console (located in Application/Utilities): if there are error messages from Quartz Composer there after attempting to run a slideshow, this note is for you. We've now added a way to disable the quartz composer slideshow via a configuration file.
Create a text file containing just this one line:
    AgSlideshow.disable_quartz_composer = true
and save it to this location:
    "~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/config.lua"
Restart Lightroom, and now your slideshows will play using non-accelerated drawing code. The transitions may appear rather chunky as a result.

  • Lightroom 3 pdf slideshow not in random order

I have attempted several times to setup a slideshow in random order that repeats. The preview works fine but on other machines (Windows mainly) the adobe reader does not display the pdf slideshow in random order nor will it repeat when these preferences are selected in Lightroom 3.
You can work around the repeat issue but I can not find a solution for the random order. Any suggestions.

PDF slideshow is not supposed to be random.

  • Lightroom 5 Exporting and Plugin Issues

Hello Everyone ! I would like to express my gratitude in advance for any advise or solutions the adobe community might provide me with these issues.
I've been using Lightroom 4.3 for the last year with no issues. I decided it was time to try out Lightroom 5 and it's new features. So I installed a trial of 5.6 via creative cloud .  When I launched 5.6 it required me to update my catalog, which I did and didn't encounter any problems with the update.  The first problem I encountered occurred when I attempted to export an edited raw file. The export  progress bar stays at zero and never completes the export process, if it helps anyone , the files I am exporting to JPEG are Raw Nikon D600 files. If I attempt to do anything else while Lightroom is stuck in the export process , the program will become unresponsive and  I'm not even able to kill the process via windows task manager. My second problem is the Plugin manager , on Lightroom 4.3 I use the Smugmug upload plugin . On 5.6 the plugin manager crashes every time I attempt to setup the Smugmug plugin. I've tried other third party plugins and those cause Lightroom to crash as well so I don't believe it's just the Smugmug plugin. I've tried every possible solution I was able to find doing web searches but nothing has worked so far...
The following is a list of steps I took to try to resolve the issues.
-In the export screen I made sure that "Do nothing" was swtiched to "go to explorer" in post processing
    - uninstalled all plugins
    - Unistalled and reinstalled Lightroom 5.6
    -Uninstalled Lightroom  4.3 (perhaps a conflict ?)
-Created a new catalog and imported new files to that catalog
    -disabled firewall and antivirus
    - Tried various JPEG re-sized dimensions
    - Tried to export to various Drives ( local, and external drives)
-Ran Lightroom 5.6 as an administrator
    -Deleted Preference File
Hopefully everyone can see I've tried my best to find a solution but to no avail , it's quite frustrating since I really want to upgrade to 5.6 .  I hope someone can provide a solution or point me in the right direction ! Sorry if this post is too long!

I never had a problem with it in LR4. The example I gave was one of many options I tried. At the other end I asked it to produce smaller files (eg 1500pixels long edge) with a 1000k maximum and I could only get them to output at around 160k.
I have since realised that I neglected to mention that I was using LR/Mogrify2 plug in to add a text graphic to the images. I experimented with turning that option off and I was able to produce a 2500px long edge file at 996k. As soon as I turn that option on again the file ouptuts at 1600k (where I have specified at 1000k limit).
This was never a problem with LR4 so there is a conflict or a bug somewhere.
Is anyone else using a LR / Mogrify 2 plug in and experiencing unpredictable results? I have the option to use LR / Mogrify 2's version of ImageMagick checked.
    Message was edited by: Shipp
So I just did further testing. It seems that LR5 cannot control the maximum file size when working with Lr / Mogrify 2. If I ask the plug in to resize the image and control the maximum file size I can produce a file with long edge 2500pix, 1000k maximum size and the text graphic with no problem at all, as I used to be able to do with LR4. I will contact the plug in developer and see if they are aware of this.
