  • Lightroom 4 can no longer see the pictures on any of my SD cards, why is this?

    Hi all,
Lightroom 4 can no longer see the pictures on my SD card when I insert it into my computer. The photos are definately on there, when I right click and press 'show in finder' they are all right there, yet Lightroom can't see them - it show '0 Photos' on the memory card tab .
I played around moving pictures from sub folders on the SD card to the first level (which didn't make a difference), and checked read/write permissions (which all seem fine).
    Gear:
    -IMac, OS X v10.7.5, Intel Core i5.
    -Nikon D5000
-Mix of SanDisk and PNY Professional memory cards (all have pictures on and Lightroom cant see any!)
Thanks in advance for any help. This is driving me nuts!

Hi all. After struggling with this for a while I changed the name of the memory card in finder - this seemed to do the trick though I have no idea why! Any thoughts?

  • Adobe Lightroom 5 is no longer letting me open my recent catalogs.

Adobe Lightroom 5 is no longer letting me open my recent catalogs.  Only my oldest or ones that I make now will open.  It is giving me an error message telling me that the catalog is already in use in another program.  We have tried to open it on another PC and it is coming up with the same error.  I am a professional photographer and really do not want to have to re-edit thousands of photographs.  Can you please help?  Or offer any advice you have on the issue?  Thanks in advance!

Look in the folder that holds the catalogue file (*.LRCAT). You'll find a file with the extension .LOCK. Delete that and then double click on the catalogue file. It'll open.

  • Lightroom 4 will no longer open

my lightroom 4 will no longer open

If you want just the originals, then you can go into the Aperture library (right click on it and do "show package contents"). Inside is a directory called "Masters" and you can find the original files in a bunch of subfolders.
But... you'll lose all adjustments, keywords, and other information, and just have the files as they were imported originally from the cameras.
Easiest is probably to buy Aperture and update everything, and then migrate to the Photos application down the road if that's what you want. Aperture 3.0 came out in 2010 (five years ago!) so it's not like you've upgraded in a while

Certainly one could rewrite or modify the Desktop application to have additional options available or even a provision that would allow for an infinite amount of settings.  If you wish, you may register your thoughts with Apple here:

  • Lightroom server busy takes long time to clear

Creative Cloud can take 10 or 15 minutes to open.  When I start Lightroom 5, I get the sever busy box.  Switch just takes you to the start screen and try again does nothing.  Photoshop CC will open, however clicking on any buttons does absolutely nothing.  Yesterday I left lightroom on for 20 minutes and then was able to click try again and after the second time clicking try again it worked great.  Photoshop CC also worked fine after 20 minutes.  When I'm in lightroom and want to edit in Photoshop CC it will take at least 5 minutes for the photo to get to Photoshop CC.  This is nuts, but after a month of going between chat and forums trying to get things working, I guess I should be happy that I can use either program.
I would like any suggestions on how  to speed things up.  When I say 10 or 15 minutes I'm not exaggerating.
    I'm using windows 8.1
    AMD A-6 5200   2.0 GHz
    8 gb ram

Please help me understand one thing: This server will never have anything to do but Filesharing. Why do I need the DNS service?
Because your file sharing wants authentication and wants security, and IP security is based on DNS services, and increasingly on digital certificates.
And digital certificate verification is fundamentally dependent on DNS. (Ever wonder why some folks and some malware is looking to crack certificate provider security or breach DNS servers? It's not for the giggles.)
Actually, I stopped the service now, and it reacts faster and the AFP works as intended. This proofs of course that the DNS service is faulty, but should I bother?
Why bother? Well, because Mac OS X Server expects functional and correct DNS services for itself and for the hosts that it will interoperate with both for ease of use and for tasks involving security and user authentication.
This DNS requirement isn't specific to Mac OS X, as most other recent operating systems and tools now expect functional DNS, too.
The usual service configuration order these days: IP, then IP routing, then DNS services, then OD, and only then whole the rest of the show. Skipping DNS and OD makes for weird problems later, too, as these are the core network services.
Oh. And DNS just makes using your network easier. mDNS is nice in a small configuration and can cover for a lack of DNS in various environments, but full-on DNS means you have complete control over your host name and IP address translations. Valid DNS just makes a network all around easier to deal with.

  • Lightroom 3. How long does it take to restore a catalog?

During the import process (one card had completed and had inserted another) my iMac froze. After several minutes of watching the beachball, force quit LR. Started it again and the Restoring Catalog message box "The catalog named "Lightroom 3 Catalog" was left in an inconsistent state. Lightroom must restore the catalog before proceeding. This may take several minutes." immediately popped up. Folks at the Adobe help desk told me it may take several hours but its still restoring after 5 hours. Clueless as to what to do next other then upgrade to LR5.

It's hard for me to imagine that upgrading to LR5 will fix this problem.
I never had this problem, but if the folks at Adobe said it takes a few hours (and they are never wrong!), then if I were you, I'd let it go overnight, and if that doesn't work, shut it down, and then get your most recent backup of the catalog file and use that.

  • Lightroom 4.0 Lat/Long not accurate enough

The latitude and longitude conversion in LR 4.0 map is not very accurate.  I plan to use this feature extensively and right now the accuracy is marginal.
I enclose a screen shot that shows the problem.    The first point is labelled: "Placed at right location in Google Earth".  This point was placed in GE
exactly on that spot.  Its coordinates are: 42.601830, -5.581437.  The second point is labelled "Same location converted from LR 4.0".  I placed that
point in LR 4.0 at the exact same location as the first point.  LR marked that position as: 42°36'7" N 5°34'53" W which I hand-converted to
42.60194444,  -5.58138888.  The second arrow to the NE of the first is placed at that location.  Close but no cigar.  That makes your photo placement
feature in LR 4.0 not accurate enough for many uses.  I have a KMZ that shows all this but I couldn't figure out how to submit it.
I'm glad to have the chance to use LR 4.0 which I like.  I use LR all day long and have for years.

This looks like an instance of the bug described here:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/non_urban_latitude_longitude_search_ wildly_inaccurate_in_lightroom_4_beta
Please visit that post and add your opinion and vote.
    Details:
It appears that LR 4 beta uses the Google Maps API to reverse geocode the original GPS location to the nearest named entity, such as a street address, and then uses the location of that entity to tag the photo, rather than the original GPS location.
In your example, this is what Google Maps shows when you search for 42.601830, -5.581437:
The green arrow is the exact location, and the red "A" is the nearest named entity, Plaza de San Marcos, 4.  When you search for that GPS location in LR 4, it shows the location of the named entity (the red "A" above), rather than the original GPS location:

  • Lightroom filmstrip is no longer showing information

My edit information ( stack counts, ratings picks etc) is showing in grid view but is no longer showin in the filmstrip even though my settings (view options) are set to show details.

The options for showing badges and ratings etc on the Filmstrip are not set in View Options, they are set on the Interface Tab of the Preferences Menu. So check there to make sure they are selected. If they are selected, the other possibility is that you have the size of the filmstrip too small (none of the info will be shown if the filmstrip is reduced beyond a certain size).

  • How can I get Lightroom to download all photos on my turnkey computer afterwich upload w/o long wait

I have a turnkey desktop computer dedicated for photography and video use only.  Below is a listing of tech points about the computer.  I operate with Adobe Creative Suite 6 Master Collection.  Also installed is Lightroom 4.  I played around with the latter and immediately could appreciate how the software will expedite a lot of the work on photographs.  But, and this is a big one, after following through on the advice from several on-line "experts" by having Lightroom incorporate all the images on the computer into the Library, afterwards I could no longer bring up in Lightroom a photo to work on without having to wait ~3 to 5 minutes for each photo.
At some point I counted the number of images on my computer, can't remember how that was done but anyway, about 40,000 keeps coming up in my head.  I'm not absolutley sure but it's safe say there are a lot of photos on the computer.  My plan is to search through these photos and categorize them under subjects/ideas using Lightroom while still keeping my current filing system by year, month, day and subject.  Additionally, in the past few years I have been shooting a lot of RAW images and I believe using Lightroom would help me be more time efficient with any editing needed.
I don't have a lot time/patience to play around with "possible" solutions, but am willing to try someting that has been known to work in cases like mine.  At the same time, if my computer set up and/or the number of photos I have installed is prohibitive for Lightroom to operate efficiently, I would be disappointed to hear such but just the same would be very appreciative to know in advance of further futile attempts.
Thank you for your time and consideration,

    Rob,
If I understand you correctly, a “bad” photo file will create problems for Lightroom that could include long delays when bringing up any image in the catalogue.  So I should do the following:
    1.       Start over with a new catalogue.  I think I am in that position by default more or less because I could no longer work with any images in Lightroom until after I deleted the catalogue which incorporated all of the images on my computer.  It just would not work.  Now Lightroom works again but with one folder (a photo shoot) at a time.
    2.       I have images on two 1 TB hard drives.  Not sure I could get all onto one hard drive. (suggestions)
I was under the impression that Lightoom would search the entire computer and only pull photo images into a catalogue.  Is it possible that Lightoom would include video files?  I could put all photo images on one hard drive into one folder.  That would separate the images from video files.  But in the Lightroom cataloguing process, must I direct the process by indicating which folders are to be included in the catalogue?
    3.       All my current folders are by year, month, day, and event.  However, the numbering system for my Nikon cameras goes to 9,999 and then starts over at 0001.  Also, I use two cameras.  And, as newer/better cameras became available, I switch cameras.  So the number 0001, for example, has probably been used a number of times since I first started using digital.  All images are unique within a particular unique folder, but it would be a monster job locating all images with the same number.  All folders are unique, but I’m pretty sure there are duplicate numbers among images files.  And in some cases, there are duplicate images (with the same image) in different folders.
    4.       Does the presence of duplicate images or image numbers in separate folders mean I can’t expect Lightroom to function efficiently?
    5.       Is there a step by step process I could use that would allow me to bring in a year’s worth of unique folders containing images at a time, so I could test Lightroom to see if it has been adversely impacted?
    6.       I’m not familiar with third party renamers?
    7.       I would be lost if I had to let go of (rename) my year, month, day, event organization.  I was hoping to use Lightroom to gather from these individual dated folders images I found that fit some theme such as weather, Northwest sports, nature shots, etc., without eliminating my current filing system.
Sorry for responding with so many questions.
Thanks for the time and consideration.

  • HELP!!  I viewed my "backup" files, and now ALL of my photos are no longer "linked" to Lightroom.

I thought I was missing some files, so I viewed my backup files.  I received a "warning" that Lightroom would restart and view my backup files.  I did NOT receive any warning, that there was NO GOING BACK!!  I've tried everything.  I cannot re-link ANY of my photos.  Well, I did just do one, and it told me all the other photos in the folder were corrupt and Lightroom would not be able to edit them (and no, it was not an exported .jpeg file).  Fortunately, I am not concerned about this folder, that's why I tested it.  I was forced to moved all of my photos from my C drive to my D drive because for some weird reason on this computer, my D drive is 5 times bigger and I ran out of room.  When I did that, I was able to relink all the pictures.  Sadly, it didn't keep my Folders, it just relinked them all by date.  That I can deal with, even though it makes finding photos much more difficult, but I wasn't about to try to rename any of them and have to relink again.
Now, I can't relink any of them because it appears in Lightroom that all photos are back in the C drive and therefore, the new photos that I placed on the D drive are not there, and nothing will relink, period, not even the ones that were originally on my C drive!
I have never been so aggravated in my life.  I LOVE Lightroom capabilities.  I have version 2.3.  When I look it up on the online help, all I get is how the photos are in whatever location they were saved, but they are linked, etc.  I already know that part.  I seriously wish I had NEVER looked at my backup files.  I don't think I'll bother backing up stuff anymore because apparently looking at the backup messes up everything.
I fully anticipated that I would be able to go back, choose my folders on my D drive and have all of my current photos available.  Sadly, not.
My user name should be FREAKED OUT!

Thanks!  I've been practicing deep breathing between yelling at my computer.  I use Windows 7.  I was in my "regular" Lightroom photos, and I couldn't locate some pictures I took last December.  So, I thought, well, why not look at the back up files?  I'm normally excellent at remembering exact steps, but I'm so worried about all of my thousands of photos, I can only explain what I think I did.  I went into Windows Explorer, and chose the backup files.  When I did, I received the warning about Lightroom restarting and loading the backup photos.  I hesitated for a full minute, but thought, well, isn't that what backup files are for?  So, I selected it. Lightroom opened the backup photos without any problem.  But, when I went back, and tried opening the photos that were linked to Lightroom, they were no longer linked.  When I click on the formerly linked photos, they just open in Windows Explorer, not Lightroom.  When I open Lightroom, it has says all the photos are "missing."  All of the folders are listed in my C drive (in Lightroom), not where they'd been moved to on my D drive.  The one photo I relinked, stated the photos in that folder could not be edited in Lightroom.  So, I'm afraid to try to relink anymore of them. Also, as I said, any photos that I originally imported to my D drive are not showing up in Lightroom at all.
I would say, I normally learn software quickly. That was my experience with Lightroom.  I installed it, went through all of the online training sessions, and have loved it.  Admittedly, I'm sure there are features that I don't make use of that many people do, but I'm just a passionate photography nut, not a professional.
The online help basically explains the linking, and even how to relink if you "move" a file, a folder to another location.  It doesn't cover this, or not where I can find it.
I've think I've given up on yelling at the computer, now I just have knots in my stomach about getting photos relinked.  I have probably 80% of them exported, with the adjustments I made, but that does not make me feel one bit better.
    Thanks!!!

  • Photo advancement in active filter no longer behaves as in previous Lightroom versions

MAC Tiger 10.4 with Lightroom V1.3, and discussion involves Lightroom software prior to V1.3
This might be hard to explain, but here it goes.
There is a nice "feature" I used in versions prior to V1.3 and now it behaves different and erratic. The steps are these (in any version):
    1) Select all photos in the Library mode (Command-A)
    2) Press the P button to mark all photos as Pick (Press P key)
    3) Filter the photos by Pick photos
    4) Cycle through each photo and mark it as (U)npick or Reject (X)
The effect is that the photo being evaluated and Unpicked or Rejected would then no longer be satisfied by the current Filter and be removed from view. The next photo in sequence would then be the current photo. This made it very easy to quickly Unpick and Reject photos and not have to do much manual advancing.
The problem is that v1.3 of Lightroom this functionality no longer consistently behaves this way. Off and on it will remove the picture and respond as indicated above, but most of the time the photos stays visible and I have to move right (or left) to advance to another photo, and what happens next is what makes this really annoying, it actually skips to the photo AFTER (or BEFORE) the next photo in sequence. Then I have to go back one (or forward one, depending on which direction I advanced) to get to the actual next photo from the one Unpicked or Rejected.
An example of this is if Photo 20 photos are selected and Picked, then the filter applied. The Pick cound is now 20. Let's say I choose photo 10 and it's to be Rejected. Photo 10 does not immediately go out of view because it no longer satisfies the Filter, which was the original effect. Now the photos stays visible.
If I press the Right arrow key, to advance to 11, the software actually advances to photo 12. I have to then press the Left arrow key to get back to photo 11.
I want the old, consistent functionality back!

I've noticed it goes like this when you are in the Loupe mode, but you actually have more than one photo selected in the grid.
    A workaround would be:
    - to hold the Shift key, or have Caps Lock on, while going through the images (this will force Lightroom to advance);
    - or make sure you only have one image selected in the filmstrip (may hit Ctrl+Shift+D to deselect all but active photo).

  • Lightroom 4.3 will no longer export images properly

Lightroom 4.3 no longer exports photos correctly.
Error Message is :-   Unable to Export :- an internal error has occurred; WIN32 API error 2 (the system cannot find the file specified) when calling ShellexecuteExW fromAgWorkspace.shellexecute.
Photos are exported, but without the EXIF data??
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Lightroom. I have also tried Restoring Win 7 to an earlier build, but with no success. This level of faultfinding is beyond my knowledge I'm afraid.
    Please can anyone help.

    Dear Victoria
BRILLLIANT!    My problem solved, and so simple.
I guess there must be a bug in the Lightroom Export Dialogue code.
    Many thanks for that.
