Lightroom 4.3 metadata doesn't xfr to Bridge CS6

I am trying to print contact sheets in Bridge using keywords and/or star ratings from Lightroom. I'm doing that because rendering is incredibly slow if I try to do the same thing in LR even when I choose 240 ppi in the menu.
I've tried suggestions from the Adobe Community as well as other suggestions I've found on the web, but none have worked, or at least none have worked consistently.
In Lightroom, I have selected "automatically write changes into XMP. For the folder and subfolders I'm working with, I have selected all of the images and hit command S to write all of the images into metadata. I've done this with the whole folder and with all of the subfolders as well. None of the star ratings show up in Bridge.
When I open Bridge, some of the folders show the keywords while others that I have processed the exact same way do not. All of the images are NEFs shot with at Nikon D800.
I've also tried opening and closing Bridge as well as purging the cache.
I've spend hours on this and at this point, I don't know what to try next. I'm on a Macbook Pro early 2011 running OS 10.8.6.
I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Every NEF (raw) file has an xmp file (sidecar) with it. If I look at an xmp file in text edit, it shows all of the adjustments I've made in LR, but it doesn't show either star rankings or keywords (unless the keywords show up in the IPTC data). I do most of my work in LR, but making a contact sheet takes forever in LR. I just made one with about 100 images and it took over 1 1/2 hours to render and I suspect it's crashed as it's still spooling to my print monitor after about 2 hrs. This would have taken 15 minutes in Bridge.
So the question still seems to be why.

  • White Balance Metadata not showing in Adobe Bridge CS6

Hi there, I am running Bridge CS6 on a Mac, and use Canon 5D and 5DMark 111 cameras. I have an issue with Bridge which I can not seem to figure out. Whether I shoot Raw or JPG and I am trying to do some testing for white balance, once I open the images in Bridge, in the little icon panel just below the folders/favourites panel etc I can see the f stop info, speed, metering , ISO etc, but the only icons I get for WB are if use auto - then I see AUTO.  But when I do a manual WB like 'cloudy', 'tungsten', or 'shade' etc all I get are the symbols for 'Custom" or "Manual".  How do I get the actual symbols for what type of WB i've chosen to show up?
I have purged the Cache - both in the individual folder and the overall Cache in preferences.  I have checked that all the boxes are ticked in the preferences panel for the Metadata.  So not sure what else to do.
    Cheers D

Ok thanks for that, at least I wont be chasing my tail.
I did install the DNG converter 8.3 but I still NEF files as a NEF icon. Any clues to what I may not be doing right there?

  • Why doesn't LR4 offer Bridge CS6 as external editor although it does so with Photoshop CS6?

I shoot in RAW, download my photos into LR 4 and was expecting to edit them with ACR7 before opening them in Photoshop CS6. Photoshop CS6 is automatically offered as an external editor and so is Bridge, but not the latest version of Bridge. After several frustating attempts I finally found out I had to go into the Preferences panel and manually link the bridge.exe app to Bridge CS6!

I have CS6 myself (as well as LR) and do not (or rarely) use bridge.  However, I can see a few scenarios where Bridge bundled with Lightroom would be useful.
Lightroom only shows you what is in the Lightroom Catelog, not what is actually on your file store. (ok you can synch or import, but these are work arounds to see what is actually in your folders).
Lightroom only recognises various file types, and you may have multiple other types of files to support your file / project structure (eg PDF's, Indd, autocad, excel, word).
There are times when an image savvy folder browser is useful.
So, I agree with going direct between LR and PS, but somtimes the macro view of your digital assets is what is required.

  • TreeView doesn't display in Bridge CS6 but it does in ESTK

running Bridge CS6 on Windows 7.
Although I tried a lot of existing .jsx scripts first, I have narrowed down my test case to this code typed into the ESTK with targets of ExtendScript Toolkit CS6, Bridge CS5.1 (4.1), Bridge CS6 (5.032), and Bridge CS6 (64 bit) (5.064).
    var w = new Window('dialog');
    var tv = w.add('treeview',undefined);
    tv.add('node','root');
    w.show();
It works properly with ESTK and CS5.1 targets.
On both CS6 targets, the window opens but the treeview widget is blank.  This is the same behavior I saw running SnpXMLTreeView.jsx and the scriptui-2.0.pdf examples.
On more complex (existing) scripts, it will crash or lockup Bridge CS6.
A search around the forums and the web shows that I am not the only one having this problem.

Yes there are a lot of problems with CS6 Bridge Scripting but the Bridge team have still not acknowledged them...
    As an example...

It would be nice to get an update to fix these problems.

i have lightroom 4 and it doesn't work with d4s raw images? what can I do?

That model begin to be supported only in the very latest version of Lightroom, version 5.4. You will either need to upgrade Lightroom, or else use the latest version of the free Adobe DNG converter (version 8.4) to create digital negative copies of your raw images. Then you can import those DNG files into the Lightroom that you have now. The choice is yours.

  • Lightroom is changing metadata on imported photos

I imported a batch of RAW images into Lightoom 4.4 and see that a number of the images are displaying the icon warning that metadata has been changed in Lightroom although the affected images have only just been imported into the catalog and I have not made any changes to them. 130 images out of a batch of 300 are being affected.
I have selected the affected images and re-read the metadata using Metadata / Read Metadata from File, but within a couple of minutes of being re-read, the metadata changed icon has reappeared.
My initial thoughts were that I had changed one of the preferences and something was being automatically applied, but if that was the case then I would have expected it to be applied to all 300 images in the batch which were taken on the same day on a single camera. I've created a smart collection to identify images with metadata changed in Lightroom and find that they appear to be randomly spread through the catalog affecting both RAW images and jpegs from 3 different cameras.
In order to exclude any changes to Lightoom preferences I may have made, I installed Lightroom 4.1 on another PC and created a new catalog using the default settings. I then imported the same batch of 300 RAW images and confirmed that the same ones displayed the warning icon that metadata was changed in Lightroom .
Can anyone explain what might be causing this?
The PCs are Windows 7 Professional, Lightroom 4.4 (Lightroom 4.1 on the test PC), RAW files are from Nikon D90 and D7100 cameras.
    Thanks

I agree with most of your points:
    Points 1, 2, 3 - I agree.
    Point 4.
yes - all of my RAW files have .xmp files associated with them as they contain the metadata and keywords I have entered via Bridge/ACR.
Lightroom imports these details but shouldn't then be making any additional changes which need to be written back to the xmp files. This is where the problem has surfaced as Lightroom has made unknown changes to some of the photos and wants to write them back to the xmp files - see my comments below about point 6.
    Point 5.
By installing a trial copy of Lightroom 5.3 on a different PC and creating a new catalog I avoided carrying forward any incorrect preferences etc I may have previously used - all photos in this new catalog have been freshly imported for testing. The fact that Lightroom displays the "metadata has changed" icon to the same photos as my original Lightroom 4.4 installation after importing them demonstrates that an unidentified Lightroom process is making changes to some (but NOT ALL) of the imported photos.
The problem is identifying WHAT Lightroom has changed and the implications of these changes.
    Point 6.
"auto write to xmp" - This is not selected in my catalog settings as I want to be in control of when Lightroom updates the xmp files. At present I am still learning Lightroom so I don't want to accidentally write any changes back to the xmp files until I am completely sure of the consequences, hence my main work still takes place in ACR.
    Point 7.
My current workflow choice is to continue using xmp sidecar files as per the following statement at
    http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/photoshop-lightroom/faq.html
"Changes you make in Lightroom can appear in Camera Raw and vice versa. To complete this interactivity, changes in both Camera Raw and Lightroom need to be written to XMP metadata. This is so that each software application can recognize the other's edits."
    - but I have to be confident that any Lightroom changes to the xmp files are as a result of my planned actions.
    Point 8.
All of the default Develop Settings are deselected in my preferences/presets and I don't have any import presets - the develop settings and metadata are set to "none".
Do you have any suggestions on how to identify what changes Lightroom has made to the photos where it has set the "metadata has changed" icon?

  • Metadata changes not showing in Bridge

I have added some metadata to some files in Lightroom (both keywords and some IPTC info like city, country, etc).
But when I look at the files in Bridge CS2, I don't see the changes.
Do I need to commit the cahnges somehow?
    Per-Gunnar

This problem seems to work in other way also:
If I edit RAW picture in lightroom, give it rating, flag and color label, they doesn't show in bridge. However, if I put keywords in Bridge _after_ editing image in lightroom, keywords never show up in LR.

  • Shortcut-Bug in Bridge CS6 for Mac / Bridge cant' copy and paste metadata

The cmd-keys / shortcuts doesn't work in the file info panel btw. in the xmp / iptc fields (e.g. cmd+c, cmd+v, ...) of Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac OS 10.6.8 and 10.7.3). You are not able to cut and paste info from one box to another like previous versions.
This bug only appears in the file info window (opened via alt+i) in Bridge CS6 - if you edit information or metadata in the file info panel in Photoshop CS6, the shortcuts or copy and paste from one field to another works.
The shortcuts also work under Windows (tested under Vista).
I noticed this minor bug already one in the Photoshop CS6 Beta more than one months ago. I hoped that this was corrected in the official test version, but unfortunately it is not. Although it is a minor bug, it is IMHO a basic function and would be very helpful in my daily work. Bridge CS6 and ACR 7 are very good and meet my expect ions or needs - it is too bad, that such a small thing is making working with the application a little bit annoying.
It would be nice, if you could forward this to Adobe engineers that they can fix it.
    Thanks so much!

Thanks! If there is a workaround or simple solution, I would be very glad if you could inform me.

  • Problem with Bridge CS4 reading/editing XMP metadata added in Bridge CS6

Please excuse me if this is a dumb/obvious question. I did try searching the forums for similar problems and didn't find anything that seemed to speak to my issue.
I'm having a problem where Bridge CS4 won't read/edit xmp metadata (specifically, keywords and descriptions in the IPTC panel) that I have entered using CS6. it will read some files, not others. The files are all .mp4s. Of these files, I can read/edit IPTC panel metadata for some of them in Bridge CS4; I can add metadata for all of them in CS6. I see no particular pattern in these files to explain what is and isn't read/editable in CS4.
My question is whether this is a compatibility issue between different versions of CS (in this instance, CS4 and CS6). i know it's a tired refrain to blame software when it could easily be user error, in which case I'd be frankly delighted to know what i'm doing wrong. Please bear with me as I give a few more details.
I'm using macs. I've tried this on multiple systems - for instance, on a mac pro 3 which for some reason has both CS4 and CS6 installed, i can add and edit keywords using CS6, but not when using CS4. Again, in CS4, some .mp4 files read/edit, others do not.
Bridge CS4 blames the files and tells me that the selected file cannot store xmp metadata, and that the properties cannot be modified. To be specific, in the metadata panel it says "this property cannot be modified"; in the keyword panel, it says, "This file (zzz.mp4) cannot store xmp metadata. No changes will occur." This seems odd, because I'm able to add xmp metadata for the same files in CS6 on the same computer, and other computers. I know this problem would disappear if all our computers were using CS6 (or CC), but unfortunately that's not a possibility at the moment. Some of them only have CS4.
Computer details (not an exhaustive list, but two instances): mac pro 3.1 running snow leopard, 16GB memory; macbook pro 4.1 running snow leopard, 4GB memory; adobe bridge cs6 (5.0.0.399) and cs4 (3.0.0.464).
    Things I have tried:
Permissions - the files are set to read/write for everyone. Given that I can add/edit metadata in CS6, it doesn't seem to be a permission issue.
Purging the cache - other users seem to have had problems adding metadata in Bridge CS4 where purging the cache for affected files solved the problem. Didn't work in this instance.
Upgrading all affected computers to CS6/CC is beyond my control. I need to figure out why CS4 won't let me read/add/edit xmp metadata, if only for the sake of understanding the broader implications for interoperability.
Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    adobe bridge cs6 (5.0.0.399) and cs4 (3.0.0.464).
Without having experience with mp4 files and metadata my observation is that you certainly have not updated Bridge CS6 ( should be 5.0.2.4) and I believe also not the latest version of CS4, can't imaging this also stayed at .0.0 so first try to update both.
And if CS4 can read the data of some files it should be capable of reading them all. Be sure to have the files completely cached first, can take a while.
Other things to try in CS4 is refresh preferences (hold down option key while restarting Bridge and choose reset prefs).
And also check for hidden cache files using menu view/show hidden files. Sometimes those cache files can be troublesome between versions.
If purge cache did not work and reset prefs also failed consider to also delete Bridge plist file and Bridge cache file manual (from user library)

  • Bridge CS6 - AVCHD metadata & keywords

Recently made the transition to AVCHD video & CS6.
On my media drive, I have a footage folder where I dump the contents of my memory cards.  I copy over the entire AVCHD file/folder structure.
I'd like to organize this footage in Bridge CS6 by editing metadata and applying keywords.  However, I'm unable to do either.  When trying to edit metadata, I get a "This property cannot be modified" error.  When trying to apply a keyword, I get a "The file xxx.MTS cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur" error.
There has to be a way to do this...am I overlooking anything?  Or is Bridge unable to do this?

    Any other ideas?
I'm afraid it is not possible because AVCHD doesn't seem to be supported in Bridge. Their are many file formats used in the world, some very easy to add to the support list but some very difficult or even impossible due to different reasons. Placing a Feature Request for supporting file formats you are missing should be the first thing to do.
Here are the Google search criteria I used:
    "avchd .mts adobe bridge"
And there are a lot of posts about it.
    check this one also:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/778555
Maybe a solution would be converting them to an other format?

  • Reading Advanced Metadata in Smart Collections, not working in Bridge CS6

In Bridge CS5 you could make an Smart collection that were looking for: All metadata > contains > "here we add a value from a metadata only visible from the Advanced tab in File info"
But this nolonger works in CS6.
Although I can go to File info and see the metadata value that are visible from Advanced. But the option All metadata, clearly doesn't support the advanced metadata in the file in CS6.
Could this be a bug in CS6?

If any one like to try this yourself and get same or other result, please let me know!
Otherwise this must be a bug to report to Adobe.
I don't have CS5 installed anymore but CS6 is still present while I use Bridge CC for my daily workflow (MacPro MacOSX 10.8.5).
I first copied 4 DNG files from my main folder to a subfolder. Those files I added a name to the IPTC extension persons name and saved.
Checked and this name shows in the IPTC extension persons name field in Metadata panel as well as in Advanced Tab in File Info IPTC Extended Properties / IPTC4xmpExt:PersonInImage(Bag container).
I closed the subfolder and used the smart collection icon to bring up the Find window.
I then selected All metadata and filled in the persons name, had subfolders and non indexed already included and put the source field to the main DNG folder.
The result was almost instant with the 4 files showing.
I then quitted Bridge CC and started Bridge CS6
Since I had not used this for a while and my main folder contained 4500 DNG I set the cache quality icon to embedded only. Selected the same folder and followed the same procedure as in CC.
Naturally it took a bit longer because the files needed to be indexed first, yet after this the result was still the same, the 4 DNG files with the persons name showed in the smart collection.
So on my behalf I can't reproduce your problem and for me it is not a bug also I'm afraid.
