Lightroom 4.3 toolbars

For some strange reason the right hand side toolbars have all changed from color to B&W on me. I am NOT in B&W mode, I'm in Color develop mode. The usual color sliders have changed to all white and grey giving no color indications in any of the sub panels. The only thing thats in color is the Histogram. I can't figure out how to switch everyhting back to color and I've looked everywhere!
Thanks in advance for any help!

If you mean this issue, then it's because you've just upgraded to OS X Mavericks.

This is fixed in Lightroom 5.2 and later (paid upgrade from Lightroom 4). Earlier versions are stuck with white sliders.

  • Lightroom 2.0 Toolbar Configuration

Just installed LR 2, transfer of data from 1.4.1 went smoothly. The only glitch I have noticed so far is that I cannot configure ratings, labels etc on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen using the drop down menu on the rhs of the toolbar. Any ideas, thanks in advance

Tried that thanks, again no luck. By pure coincidence I have just upgraded my computer to Intel Quad core & 4gb Ram one day before the LR2 release. I therefore have a clean XP 32 bit, SP3 install and apart from this glitch everything else runs like a dream, including the setting of preferences via 'view options'. I think I will live the problem for now and see if anybody else has this issue. Again thanks for your help.

Open Activity Monitor and select the Lr 3 process.  Choose to "sample" the image.  Contact Adobe Support. If they need that file, you already have it.

  • Lightroom does not appear under the application tab on my mac toolbar, where is it?

I recently bought the adobe creative cloud and was thrilled to see that I can have access to Lightroom. The issue is that it is not under the tab on my toolbar. The bigger issue is that when I go to the adobe download center and click 'download', all that does is open up the tab to where lightroom should be. Has anyone else had this problem and found the solution. Let me know, cheers.

I sorted it out. I was using a trail version and had signed up with a different email. I logged out of my existing trail account, then logged in using the email I signed up with during the purchase. All is well. Thank you for the quick response and feedback.

  • Having issues with secondary toolbars in Photoshop CC 2014.

Some of my tool bars have stopped working.  For example, in the past when I've used the quick selection tool a secondary tool bar will display, underneath the top primary toolbar, giving me options to Add, Subtract, etc. from the selection.  Now I don't see the secondary tool bar.  Not seeing it on any of the action items...Crop used to give me ratio options and an Accept option, not there now.  I'm running Windows 8.1 and the only recent change I've made was downloading Lightroom CC 2015 (which shouldn't have affected PS).  Any suggestions?

You were correct.  Somehow my Custom Workspace edited itself and changed the arrangement of my preferences.  Right in front of my face, but it took your prompt for me to see it.  Thanks!  Back in business.

  • Lightroom 5.7 Imports Photos Out of Sequence

Since updating to Lightroom 5.7 photos are imported out of sequence.  They are in the correct sequence when the card is read but during import they are scrambled, for example: importing five photos in order A, B, C, D and E but the sequence after import was A was 0001, D was 0002, B was 0003 and E was 0004 and C was 0005.  Not a big deal with 5 photos but it makes processing more difficult with a large imports.  Has anyone else run into this and how was it fixed?  Thanks!

My best work around for this is to just import them without renaming them, then once they are imported, I go into the folder they are in and sort with Capture time. Then I select all of them (Command A) and then go to the toolbar, Library->Rename Photos and then select my favorite way to name my pictures. It renames them super fast and now the file name sequence and the capture times are all in sync. There are a lot of improvements that need to be made with LR. Another issue that takes work outside of Lightroom is the "Make Second Copy" in the Import section. That needs its own section with way more options.

  • Printing problem with Lightroom 5

Lightroom 5 CC is printing a 1/2 inch discolored bar vertically down the right side of my photos regardless of size (ie 4x6, 8x10). It only happens if I print one photo on photo paper the same size as the print.  For example, if I print 2, 4x6 photos on a 8 1/2 x 11 photo paper, they print fine.  I've also printed from Picasa without any problem.  I'm using a Canon Pixma ip6000D.  I've updated drivers and cleaned the print heads.  Problem appears to be only in Lightroom 5.  I tried several of the Canon ip6000d profiles and they all have the same problem.
Also tried printing from Photoshop CC and Photoshop Elements 12.  Vertical bar prints using either app.

In the Toolbar at the bottom of the work area *(Press T if you can't see it) there is a pulldown that allows you to choose between:
    All Filmstrip
    Selected
    Flagged
    Set it to Selected.

  • Why can I not open a file in lightroom to an external editor?

I have recently restored my photo library on an external drive via time machine and all has been good. Now I have updated lightroom to 4.4 and cannot open any files to an external editor... photoshop cs4 or any nik software program. I am running OS X.6.8. Any ideas as to what has happened and how to fix?
It comes up with "Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at.... for editing. It will not be opened."
    Cheers

Not sure what the problem is..... When I originalte an email, or reply to one, I have the paperclip icon that I use to attatch files that need to be sent.
Do you not have the paperclip icon?  If not, when you initiate a new outgoing email, go to the VIEW menu, and make sure Show Toolbar is checked....

    Hi Karen
You may the sort set to Custom. Click the dropdown menu on the toolbar (to the right of the word sort) and change to capture time.
If you can’t see the toolbar above the filmstrip press the T key. Press T again to hide.

  • The Lightroom Manual is Not Clear on Options for the White-Balance Tool

In the section "Working with image tone and color" the Lightroom manual states:
Specify a neutral area in the photo
    1. In the Basic panel of the Develop module, click the White Balance Selector tool to select it, or press the W key.
    2. Move the White Balance Selector into an area of the photo that should be a neutral light gray. Avoid spectral highlights or areas that are
    100% white.
    3. Set options in the toolbar as needed.
Sets the White Balance Selector tool to dismiss automatically after clicking only once in the photo.
Displays a close-up view and the RGB values of a sampling of pixels under the White Balance Selector.
Zooms the close-up view in the Loupe...."
Item 3 is unclear.  I selected the white balance selector, and moved it to an area as instructed,
but I cannot find any toolbar with the options described.
How do I get to this mysterious toolbar??  Everyone seems to think its a simple thing, but I cannot find it and I am not able to set any of the options described!
While I am sure this is a simple thing, I think that the manual should be much more clear about this description;  what is there now is very inadequate.

It should be directly underneath the image preview - press the T key if it's not there.

  • Lightroom CC: In the Map module, why is the Map Tracklog"Auto-Tag Photos" choice inactive?

In the Lightroom CC Map module, the "Auto-Tag Photos" choice in the Main Menu > Map > Tracklog submenu is inactive (grayed out) when I try to tag GPS metadata from a tracklog to a selected photo. However, for the same tracklog and selected photo, the Auto-Tag 1 Selected Photo choice in the tracklog menu in the Toolbar is active and I can successfully tag the photo with GPS metadata from the tracklog using it. (Lightroom CC (2015) running on Mac OS X, Ver. 10.10.3). Can someone tell me why this might be?

    Auto-tag greyed out - solution
    1. Click on Start(Windows)+R in your Windows 8computer to open the Run Dialog box.
    2. Type %appdata% in the Run Dialog box and hit enter.
    3. Open the Adobe folder.
    4. Open the Lightroom folder.
    5. Open the Preferences folder.
    6. And rename the file Lightroom 5 preferences.agprefs to Lightroom 5 preferences.agprefs.old
    7. reopen the Lightroom and check if your  issue has resolved.

Lightroom 5 Help says that to change the size of filmstrip thumbnails: "Place pointer over top edge of filmstrip; when pointer changes to doublearrow, drag the filmstrip edge up or down."  However I never get a double arrow.  Instead I get a hand icon that allows me to drag the thumbnails to right or left.  How can I change the filmstrip thumbnail size?

It works for me. Are you sure you are hovering in the right spot? It's the dividing line between the filmstrip and the Toolbar.

  • Feature suggestions for Lightroom 3

    Hi team,
Here's a quick summary of some ideas for LR3.  Not sure how late in the dev cycle you guys are (we've seen one public beta so far, I would expect 2 or 3 before you go RTM, and features have not yet been frozen according to my reading):
    * Perspective correction / Keystoning: This has been mentioned a lot here and on other forums - a no-brainer, especially considering that DNG 1.3 specifications allow for it
    * Individual RGB channel control: Something that Capture One & Bibble 5 also have. It's time LR added this feature also, I think
    * Soft-proofing: Hate to bang the drum on this one, but the LR interface could benefit from a readout of which colour space we're operating in for the current image, along with the ability to change this (I would think a simple drop down would do the trick, similar to the Tone Curve type).  This is especially true on account of the fact that Library and Develop use different color spaces to display images (not a bug, a feature - but an obscure one at that)
    * Layers: While I understand the LR team's resistance to layers as a concept (or at least calling it that, since the Adjustment Brush effectively - and very nicely - implements layers in a fashion), it would be handy to have.  For example - let me rearrange the order in which Adjustments are applied.  As a panel in Develop, this could easily be ignored by anyone not wanting to use (or who doesn't understand) Layers as part of their workflow.  Leaving it out to "keep things simple" is not a good idea, IMMHO.  After all, LR is targetted primarily at Pro Photographers and Advanced Enthusiasts - who should know how to use Layers, or at least be willing to learn!
    * If not layers, then perhaps a list of Adjustment Brush pins in a scrollable list, so I can select them based on the adjustments I've made.  Perhaps I could then re-order this list?  The key challenge here would be how best to label each one?
    * Selections / Adjustment Brush: Having Bezier, Rectangle, Ellipse and Free-form as selection options (along with the ability to invert these easily so I can do "Negative" selections where that's quicker) would be fantastic - this is something LightZone and Bibble both have
    * Paint with Preset: At the moment, the range of settings I can apply with the Adjustment Brush is limited to a half-dozen or so.  I can't paint White Balance, Sharpening (at least not with masking), Noise Reduction, or HSL adjustments, for example.  This would give me lots of very granular control.  It would be fabulous if we had a "Paint with Preset" option or a "Preset Brush" that let me create a Preset, then paint it on at various opacities (combined with the ability to invert selections, this would be extremely powerful).
    * Blend Brush: An alternative to the Paint With Preset might be the ability to "Paint with another Image" over the current one.  This might be useful for blending multiple exposures (e.g. to remove people in landscapes, or to do simple selective HDR blending from multiple exposures).  Having the ability to set the "Blend Mode" (similar to PS's Blend Modes) might also be helpful.  I imagine this new brush would work in a similar fashion to the current Adjustment brush, only it would be combining information from multiple images.  It might be useful to have a "2-up" display similar to compare mode that shows the "Source" and "Target" images side by side (with the ability to zoom in and out)
    * Grayscale Wedge: Would it be possible to have a greyscale wedge that could be displayed beside or underneath an image in Develop?  LightZone has a fantastic implementation of controlling image Zone information using a simple point and click on the wedge.  Well worth checking out.  It would certainly make adjusting tones in the image a lot more intuitive for some people.  I think this concept could be taken a step further.
    * Luminosity Mask: The ability to "Auto Mask" an image based on its luminosity (i.e. which Zone an area falls into) would be way cool as part of the Adjustment Brush.  That way, you could control individual zones easily.  I imagine this tool would have 2 sliders: "Luminosity" (from light to dark) - which would determine the "target" luminosity to Mask; and "Threshold" which would determine the "Width" of the selection in tonal terms.  Holding down the Option key on either slider would show a dynamically generated Mask overlay to help me determine which areas the Mask is applying to
    * Color Mask: See Luminosity Mask above. Same idea, but based on Color.  Perhaps a Color Picker tool would enable me to isolate a Color and create a Mask (which I could then refine using the Erase or AB tools if necessary).  This would have HSL sliders to select the target color, and a "Threshold" slider to control the "Tolerance" either side.  Again, using the Option key would give me a preview similar to the Sharpening / NR tools
    * Perhaps the Selection Tools,  Luminosity and Color Masks above could be combined into a "Smart Mask" panel (or panels) in the Adjustment Brush tool, making it more consistent with the current interface, and making it much easier to create masks with the Adjustment Brush
    * Ability to Maintain Color Profiles inside LR, without having to restart.  I use the X-rite CC Passport to generate Color Profiles at almost every shoot.  It might be helpful to have an easy way to maintain these Profiles (and to share them like we can share presets!).  At very least, add an option in Preferences to open the appropriate Folder so I don't have to go hunting for it.
While the early LR3 beta is encouraging, I do think it is missing many user-requested features, and features its "competitors" already have.  In my view, Lightroom needs to stay ahead of the curve to gain market share.
Once again, congratulations on creating a fantastic tool in Lightroom.  It just keeps getting better with every version (LR3 looks amazing so far for an early beta - love the improved demosaic sharpness and NR).
    Hope these suggestions are helpful.
    Cheers,
    Matthew

Six changes that would be basic improvements - sorry if these look like bug reports, but they have lasted through all the updates and upgrades and I consider them to be overripe for improvement.
For mouse-heavy users it would be helpful to have a Grid icon in the toolbar in the Develop module, the same as appears in the Library module.
The consistency of having a Done button in all places that present a secondary work screen would make leaving those screens simpler.
When organizing folders, keeping the focus local after a Delete would be good, instead of the focus jumping up to a higher level as it does, requiring a search for your location. If you're making a lot of changes this can be time-consuming and frustrating. I know some other program do this, but not all and it's solvable.
When moving a folder of files, the last file doesn't get moved and could wind up in some random place if you don't suspect this and go after it to move it by itself. This seems to be unique to Lightroom.
In leaving Compare, it's not clear which image you're keeping because the filename isn't visible, only the rating (if used). Changing the rating to exit can disable the Done button. To get it back it shouldn't be necessary to swap the images. Why not use a more standard release action like the Escape key?
In LR 3.3, when using the noise reduction slider the option to update the whole filmstrip to use version 2010 is available only if the demonstration "compare" screen is retained with a box checked. If you uncheck that box, there's no way to get that screen back the next time, so the option to update to 2010 for the whole filmstrip at once is gone and subsequently requires one-by-one clicking to update. This could be simpler and faster.
I use LR every day and teach it, but I may have missed something so forgive my naming ills that have already been mentioned. Thanks for listening. DKD

  • Lightroom 5.2 bugs

I am infuriated that Adobe would sell a product with so many bugs. I've created a running list as I can't invest critical work time in finding resolutions one-by-one.
    Windows 7 64-bit / 8 GB / Lightroom 5.2
    SCREENSHOTS: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fe0qjf2q95pp84w/Adobe-LR52-Bugs-131128.pdf
Undo (ctrl+z) stops working and it applies a random preset; viewing menu Edit -> Undo shows it's checked but doesn't match behavior. Have to exit LR and restart it. Also in LR4.
Develop Module -> selected image being edited is not the one showing in Navigator; have to click thumbnail in bottom strip to get it to match the image being worked on.
Develop Module -> selection info errors: image info/image selected is … 1551-E.PSD, toolbar at bottom says 1 selected / …1490.NEF and, image showing in Navigator is a completely different image altogether.
Auto-advance randomly keeps turning itself on after turning it off
Spot Removal Heal/Clone doesn't always work, will not remove spot. Even at 100% opacity it will leave a 'ghost' of the area to be removed.
Keywords: Removing a keyword = ERROR (used Purge Unused Keywords to delete) - "Unexpected Error performing command: performCommandDesc ..."
Adjustment Brush Flow - I keep brush A flow set to 100 and it randomly sets itself to 10
Mask Overlay is OFF yet it still shows the overlay, have to check and uncheck the box or deselect the brush

Well written but this is a user to user forum. Bugs need to be reported here. Please do.
