  • Adding lens correction profiles to Photoshop

I am having difficulty adding lens correction profiles for my Sony A7R camera to Photoshop and LIghtroom. I have obtained some *.lcp files for a given lens in RAW, and have tried adding them to to the following folders but without success (i.e., the lens profile still does not appear):
    Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.4/Resources/LensProfiles/1.0/Sony
    Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.4/Resources/LensProfiles/1.0/Sony/Downloaded
    ProgramData/Adobe/CameraRaw/LensProfiles/1.0/Sony
    ProgramData/Adobe/CameraRaw/LensProfiles/1.0/Sony/Downloaded
    Users/MyName/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/CameraRaw/LensProfiles/1.0
    Users/MyName/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/CameraRaw/LensProfiles/1.0/Downloaded
The reason I've added the *.lcp file to so many folders is because various internet searches have suggested each one of these as a repository for the *.lcp file.
I'm now thinking that the Index.dat file in the LensProfiles folder may need rebuilding, and supposedly renaming that folder and restarting either PS or LR will recreate that file. However, that has not worked for me, and what happens is that I get an extremely abbreviated list of available profiles. What is the current, proper way to add lens profiles to Photoshop CS6, CC or LightRoom 5.4, all being 64 bit versions running on a PC under Windows 7 64 Bit?

User lens profiles in program folders will be ignored, so the first four you list, starting with Program Files and ProgramData are only for Adobe-supplied profiles for the particular version of product you're using.  There are .lcp files in those program folders, the ones without Downloaded in the path, anyway, but they have to be Adobe profiles.  Each version of Camera Raw and Lightroom knows exactly what profiles to expect and will ignore any others.  A few years ago that was not the case, but it is, now.
The last path, beginning with Users and ending with Downloaded is where user-supplied .lcp files should go.
If you want to zip up a profile and a raw file you feel goes with it, and upload to http://www.dropbox.com and share a public download link, here, then maybe others can verify if those profiles work for them or not.

  • Lightroom 5 - Lens correction / correction objectif - Sony Alpha A7 SEL2870

    Hello everybody.
I download lightroom 5 (trial version). I shoot in Raw with my Sony Alpha A7 with the basic lens 28-70 (SEL2870). I didn't found the correction for my lens. The version is (I think) update. How can I do?
    Thanks
    Merci.

  • Lens correction Lightroom vs DxO Viewpoint

Does anyone know if Lightroom's lens correction is any better than that of Viewpoint 2 (or 2.5)?  I am trying to decide whether I need Viewpoint to do lens correction on my Sony a5100 with the 16-50 kit lens.  The lens produces a lot of barreling distortion especially at wide angle.  Is viewpoint necessary or will the lens correction in Lightroom 5.7 do the job adequately.  Both software programs support the camera and lens combination.  Thanks.

It's best to download Lightroom and try it for yourself.
You can use it free for 30 days from the date of download.

  • Supported lens corrections profile not listed in Lightroom 3.2

I have installed the Lightroom 3.2 update, which lists support for the "Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II" lens.  I've shot a number of photos with this lens (using a Canon T1i) and loaded them into Lightroom.  In the metadata for the photos, the lens appears as "EF50mm f/1.8 II".
Within Lightroom's "Lens Corrections" section, the "Auto" option reports "Unable to locate a matching profile automatically."  I've manually searched the list of Canon lenses, and it's not on the list.
    In the folder
         /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/LensProfiles/1.0/Canon/
I see a file corresponding to this lens
         Canon EOS 5D Mark II (Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II) - RAW.lcp
but it's listed with only the one specific body.
I've tried manually installing the Camera Raw 6.2 update, but it reports "Update is not applicable."  Given the file listed above, I suspect it was already installed.
In the release notes, which listed Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens, it didn't mention that support was limited to only a certain camera body.  Could someone please help me?  Thanks!

My assumption that I should be able to find the lens within Lightroom came from the release notes at
      http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2010/08/lightroom-3-2-and-came ra-raw-6-2-now-available.html
rather than the filename of the profile that I found.  As far as I can see, the release notes don't specify that it only applies to raw images.
I agree that the release notes could have been a clearer in terms of what was provided. I can also appreciate why the profiles for JPEG were not included, namely time constraints.
After converting the original raw images to JPEG it would have taken an hour or so to run the calibration images for these "new" profiles through the lens profile creator application. Following a number of requests I did this myself for the dozen or so profiles that I had already uploaded to the Adobe lens profile server. That was a days work for me, for the Adobe engineer(s) working on all of the new profiles it would  probably have taken a fair number of days/weeks.

  • Nikon 10-24 Lens Correction

I just discovered Lightroom's lens correction presets for specific lenses. While many of my Nikon lenses are listed, my latest lens (the Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED) is not listed. It's one of Nikon's newest lenses.
I'd like to be able to quickly correct distortion in my photos. Does Lightroom add additional lenses over time to their list of presets?
If not, are there 3rd party presets for correction that I could take advantage of?
    Thanks!

    Start here: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lensprofile_creator/
And read the manual, especially the shooting guide.  It's really not all that hard.

  • Lens Correction For Nikon 24-120

I use this lens as a periodic walk around lens. As it does not show up in LightRoom 3 Lens Correction Develop module, I have to export the nef file into CS5 and open lens crrection there. It still does not show up but if I do a search there within that Lens Correction  filter, it is found and I can apply the correction, and then take the .psd file now back to LightRoom 3. Now I have two files. The original .nef file and a psd file, the latter of which only has the lens correction applied to it.
Is there a way to d/l the lens correction profile for this lens and include it in the list already supplied by CS5 and LightRoom3. This really is a pain to correct the shot vis this method and a waste of time. Thanks for your help..
    Tunney

My OS is  XP. Yes I found the folder you mention but don't see a list of
profiles in there. When you take the file into PS5 and go to Lens
Correction, the profile for that lens is not included. But there is a search
capability there which when hit, searches the web for the profile and brings
up the Nikon profile for that lens. It is probably made by Nikon itself. It
is not marked as a community profile but as a Nikon profile for that lens..
I should send you a jpeg file with that lens and let you go into CS5 and
Lens Correction and do the search at which time you will see what I am
referring to. Unless you have this lens yourself, you would be able tyo do
    the same thing.
I don't know if I am making myself clear here. It is not a community profile
that is found in the search in CS5 but is listed as a Nikon profile for the
24-120 lens. I don't use this lens that much but do periodically use it as a
    walk around lens.

  • Lens corrections

    Hi,
is it correct that when Lightroom applies lens correction (based on a lens profile), these corrections are based solely on the profile, and are not adaptive to the picture in any way?
Case in point: I want to verify a filter or a lens hood for possible vignetting. I took a shot that indeed has some vignetting. After I apply lens correction (the correct profile for the lens) the vignetting is gone completly. This means that all the vignetting is the behaviour of the lens, right? If there were any effects due to the hood, Lightroom wouldn't correct for it, and I would still see some darkened corners even after the corrections have applied by Lightroom, wouldn't I?
    Regards

The profiles are based on Exif metadata that identifies the camera and lens that captured the photo; so filters and other attachments would be unknown.
Whilst separate profiles are available for Raw and jpeg files; they work best with raw files.
It’s possible to customize and save your own lens profile e.g. some users like to add back a little vignetting.

  • LR4 lens correction. When will canon 10-18mm lens be added

I recently purchased a canon 10-18mm lens. But when I tried to use the lens correction facility I discovered that it was not on the dropdown list of lenses.
Do you know a date when it will be added?

I have a similar Windows version so I can give you specific instructions.  This is how to copy the lens profile for the 10-18 from the Adobe PS location to the Users location so an older LR can see it.
Download and install the DNG Converter 8.7 from:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/   This will put the new profiles at a known location.
Find the profile you want to copy under C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0\Canon and right-click Copy
I think the file you want is:  Canon EOS 50D (Canon EF-S 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS STM) - RAW.lcp
Go to the Users profile location:  C:\Users\Steve\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0\Downloaded
You may need to create some of the folder path, but down through Roaming should exist.  The AppData folder is hidden so you may have to type it into Explorer and hit Enter to get down into it, or type %AppData% into an Explorer address bar and hit Enter and you should be down into the Roaming folder.
Once you are in the Downloaded folder (that you may have had to create) do a Paste to copy the profile over to it, and you're done, once you've restarted LR so it'll see the new profile.

  • The lens correction option in Lightroom 5 is for the Tamron 28-75mm lens, rather than the correct Tamron 18-270mm, even though it's correct in the Library metadata. How can I fix this?

The lens correction option in Lightroom 5 is for the Tamron 28-75mm lens, rather than the correct Tamron 18-270mm, even though it's correct in the Library metadata. How can I fix this?

Are you shooting RAW or JPG or some of both?
When you say it won't let you change it, does that mean there are no lens profiles at all, or no lens profiles that match your lens? If you set Auto or Default you can select any lens you want from the list of manufacturers and profiles and then the Setup says Custom.  Of course this lens may not be the correct lens, but saying you cannot change it suggests there are no manufacturers or lenses listed on the dropdowns.
Most lens profiles are for RAW only, so if you shoot a mixture of RAW and JPG then for the JPGs the lens profile may not exist.  If you are enabling Lens Profiles and have Auto or Default set and it chooses the wrong one then it may just be choosing the top one in the list for Canon if the specific profile doesn't exist for JPGs.
If you are shooting raw and the profile does exist then you should be able to correct the situation:  In the list select the correct profile, then choose Setup:  Save New Lens Profile Defaults, and select Default from the Setup instead of Auto and it should pick the correct lens every time.  Assuming it does do that, then you can set Enable Lens Profiles = checked and Setup: Default and set those as your new Lightroom Defaults and it should pick the right lens.
If you are shooting JPG then the lens profile may well not exist and there's nothing you can do about that except not shoot JPG.  If you feel like it you can hack a raw profile to be a jpg profile and put that hacked copy in the user-lens-profile area and LR will see it.

  • Manual Lens Correction in Lightroom 4

The Manual Lens Correction sliders in Lightroom 4 seem completely useless. They aren't working the same as they do in Lightroom 3. Instead of being able to fix keystoning of images, now the horizontal and vertical sliders just stretch or distort photos. Is this a bug? If not, is it possible to go back to the functionality from LR3? If this isn't possible, I'm probably going to switch back to Lightroom 3, since this is one of the program's most useful features.

    Lee Jay wrote:
... This functionality hasn't changed at all for me - it works exactly as before.
    I think so, too.
See my example in the feedback forum demonstrating the different effect of the manual transformation sliders depending on the angle of view: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/i_would_love_automation_in_the_lens_ correction_manual_panel : There is an automatic aspect ratio correction, and for photos taken with a rather small angle of view, this is mostly a stretch/distort. Which is totally correct IMHO (and hasn't changed since LR3).
P.S. I don't know which angle of view LR assumes for photos w/o information about focal length and sensor size (probably 50mm focal length and 35 mm film format ("full format") sensor.

  • Lightroom 5.2 is not identifying my sigma 35 mm 1.4 for lens correction anymore.

Lightroom 5.2 is not identifying my sigma 35 mm 1.4 for lens correction anymore. It was working fine last week. Any ideas what's happening?

Indeed the pictures I'm looking at now are Jpeg. My other canon lenses are picked up for profile correction though but the sigma 35 isn't. Thanks a lot! I thought something was wrong somewhere but it all makes sense now.

  • Lens correction profile for the Canon 18-135 STM lens in Lightroom 5 ?

How or where can I get the lens correction profile for the Canon 18-135 STM lens in Lightroom 5 ? In effect he is not available in my list of correction lens so my lightroom is up to date apparently :/
    Thanks in advance for answer.

There are two types of Lens profiles - raw and JPEG. It looks like you are trying to process a JPEG image and Adobe has only provided a raw lens profile for the 18-135mm IS STM lens.
    You have four options:
    1) Check for available lens profile using the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader. I checked and a JPEG lens profile is NOT available for the 18-135mm lens.
    2) Follow the procedure outlined by Steve Sprengel in this post:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lr_5_lens_profile_not_applied_for_jp g_captures_only_for_raw_captures
More detailed instructions here for a Pentax lens example:
    http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/post-processing-articles/176761-creating-adobe-lens-cor rection-profiles-jpgs-raw-ones.html
This allows using the available raw lens profile with JPEG images. To my knowledge Canon DSLR cameras do not apply distortion correction to JPEG images, so the raw profile should work well. You can check this by shooting raw+JPEG and comparing the two images inside LR
    3) Create you own lens profile using the Adobe Lens Profile Creator. (A complicated process, but it can be done!).
    4) Start shooting in raw mode or raw + JPEG mode, which will allow you to extract the most benefit from LR's processing controls.

  • Micro Four Thirds lens correction and Lightroom

Obviously LR seems to use some of the lens correction information it gets from Micro Four Thirds cameras. This shows when compared to results from RAW converters that don't.
I have noticed this for my Olympus OM-D and the 12-50 mm zoom. Is that the reason why there is no lens profile for that lens in Lightroom? And is this the case for all MFT lenses?
