Lightroom 4 and 4.1beta video file import error/failure

Findin that Lightroom 4 and 4.1 are not importing video/movie files.  Without exception every attempt made has resulted in an error.
In many cases just the first frame gets imported and converted to a low grade jpg image.
The same files import cleanly in to Aperture 3.x without difficulty.
Software glitch?  Or my brain cramp?

i too have a mpg file hat will not import in 4.1 RC.
i think it should import fine?!

  • Video File Read Error

    Dear DVDSP Brains,
I am using DVDSP3 and have created a DVD with several menus. Whenever I try and build it the log gives me the following error message:
Compiling VTS#2 (MM to Film Menu Trans)...
    Writing VTS020.VOB

Building was not successful. See log.
The clip it seems to have a problem with "Film Menu to MM Trans, Clip 3..." is - I think - a still that has been added to the end of a transition movie between menus. I added the still to allow a dissolve to occur into the next menu and its buttons. I'm not sure if my diagnosis is correct.
I have seached the forum and attempted to implement some of the advice given that might be relevant.
I have tried to re-encode the Film Menu to MM Trans.
    I trashed preferences.
I deleted the PAR files (which oddly has now caused he disc to have 5.7GB where it only had 3.2 GB before !!!)
I am at a loss and trying not to panic.
Your help would be much appreciated!
    Detsky

I deleted the PAR directories in both the directory where the DVDSP document exists, and in my user directory (~mr88cet/Movies/Gary's Live DVD2 Build). I also tried deleting that whole directory. None of those deletions helped.
I exported the first video fragment in that track. That also didn't help.
Not surprisingly, doing a "build" only didn't help.
Could you tell me more about how this could clarify a problem with importing one of my clips?

  • CS6 File Import Error

    MAC PRO 2 x 2.93 GHz 6 Core
    12 GB 1333 MJZ DDR3 Ram
    Kona 3 card
    Quadro 4000 graphics card
    Video drive Apple XServe raid
    plus 2 TB G-raid & 3, 2 TB internal 7200 RPM drives
    OS 10.7.4
    CS6.0.1.31
I have run into this "File Import Error"  several times since installing the PP update and the new AJA drivers for CS6.
The message tells me that the file is an unsupported format or that it's damaged.  These files will open if I keep trying and they'll also open in QT player and in After Effects and eventually in PP.
Also when I open an existing project I consistently get a dialogue box:
"The scratch disks are write protected or unavailable.  To open this project, the scratch disks will be set to your documents folder.  Would you like to continue?
    second dialogue appears
"The project could not be loaded.  It may be damaged or contain outdated elements.
    Then another:
    "Video filter missing
    AE_A7D2C2A2-6AB7-4551-84A6-45830F6ADF3C"
If I try the project a coupl.e of times it will usually open, showing the first and third dialogue box, but not the second saying that it is damaged.
Of course none of the scrazttch disks are locked.
    Problem #3
All day yesterday could not render any clips or timeline.  Today I repaired permissions and seem to now be ble to render.
    Problem #4
Sent the unrendered timeline to Media encoder, hoping the Media Encoder would be able to render and it just locked up with no encode.
I deleted the files and now Media encoder seems to be working.
Something very Hinkey going on.  Anyone have any ideas or solutions to prevent this from happening in the future.
    Thanks...Jim Watt

Problem 1: What sort of file(s) are you trying to import when you get the error?
Problem 2: Was the previous scartch disk setting pointing to a drive that is not available on your current system? If so, open the project then change the scratch disk manually to whiver drive/directory you want... Or just accept the default.
Problem 3: Glad that worked... doesn't that negate probelm 4?
Problem 4: Timeline rendering and rendering at export are two different things. They are not directly related, so an export will not render the timelien for you. You did the right thing by deleteing your existing preview files. That's always a good thing to do after upgrading old projects to current versions. Plus, it saves a lot of storage space if you do that whenever you're 'done' with a project.

  • File Import Error for mpeg-1?

When attempting to add mpeg1 files to render queue, AME 5.0.1.0 displays a messagebox "File Import Error" "Error while decompressing the source file".
These mpeg1s are direct from my Sony DSC-N2 point-&-shoot. GSpot identifies them as mpeg1 video codec & 32khz,64kbs,mono layer2 audio. VirtualDub has no problem with these files.
    Any ideas?  I'd upload them here but as uncompressed mpeg1s they're 41 & 19MB.

    Hi Peter,
Thanks for posting the clip. I tested it and was able to reproduce your results.  In Adobe Media Encoder 5.0.1, installed as part of CS5 Design Premium on Windows 7 64-bit with QuickTime 7.6.9, encoding the file to F4V (or FLV or H.264) was very very slow.  It looks like AME is duplicating every frame many times over, which was confirmed when I stopped the encode and examined the partial file.
The problem did not occur, however, on a similar computer with CS5 Production Premium installed.
The reason, if I understand the inner workings of AME well (which I like to think that I do), has to do with which codecs are installed with AME, which is dependent on which Adobe products you have installed.  Only Production Premium, After Effects, and Premiere Pro include the MPEG codecs necessary for AME to decode MPEG files natively.  Design Premium, Flash, or any other Adobe product that installs AME do not install the MPEG codecs.
In theory, AME shouldn't be able to read your MPEG file at all.  But when QuickTime is installed AME has a rule that allows it to ask QuickTime if it can decode certain types of files if AME can't decode them natively.  In this case, yes, QuickTime can read this MPEG file.  So it's actually QuickTime that is decoding the file for AME, and then AME takes those frames and encodes them to the output format.  If you didn't have QuickTime installed, AME would just produce an error when you tried to open the file.  (I confirmed this by uninstalling QuickTime; this is also why your previous bad QuickTime install was generating the error you first posted about.)
The problem here seems to be that QuickTime and AME aren't talking together very well.  Either AME isn't requesting the frames correctly, or QuickTime isn't handing over the frames correctly.
The best workaround for you will be to use a different program to transcode your MPEG files to a different format.  Either directly to F4V, or to an intermediate format (QuickTime, AVI, other) that you can then import into AME so it can properly transcode it.
Or you can take Jim's suggestion and shoot with a camera that produces files that are more friendly to editing.  MPEG files are notoriously difficult to decode efficiently for editing, and the wide variety of implementations of the MPEG guidelines makes it nearly impossible for editing programs to be compatible with every single device that can write MPEG files.
I do have some good news: this problem has already been resolved for a future release of AME; my test of an internal build did not reproduce the problem.

  • File Import Error - Adobe Media Encoder, help!

I'm at a complete loss. AME worked very well for me for a long time and booting it up yesterday gave me a paralyzing error.
Upon trying to import an MOV, MP4, and later a WMV, I received the following error:
    File Import Error
The file C:\Users\tj\Desktop\New folder\SH_GS_PeekPlay_DEMO_720.mp4 could not be imported. Could not open source file. Please check that file exists with correct permissions.
I've tried everything I can think of:
    1. Moved the file off the server and onto my desktop.
    2. Double checked file permissions (all of which I have)
    3. Uninstalled AE and Premiere to try to get rid of Media Encoder.
    4. Searched for a way to uninstall AME so I could put a fresh install (can't find how to do this)
    5. Manually updated AME
    6. Reboot (multiple times between these steps)
    7. Contact customer support - no help thus far.
I'm running Windows 7 64bit with Adobe CC and AME 7.0.1.58

    Tried that as well.
To rule everything out, I had the files placed:
    1. On company internal server
    2. External Harddrive connected through Firewire
    3. Internal Hard Drive (with OS)
    4. Internal secondary Hard Drive (data only)
    5. On Desktop (technically 1st internal drive)
I have since fixed this by uninstalling every single Adobe application (including Flash and Air) and redownloading and installing each.

MPG video file importing as audio HELP!!!
I am using Premiere pro CS5 trial version. The videos I have are in .mpg format and play fine in other programs. When I import them into Premiere they are importing as audio files.
I have a week to get this project done for uni and Im freaking out! It worked on the uni computer before christmas but isnt working here, its the same program and same operating system (windows 7).
    What am I doing wrong!!!?

You are doing nothing wrong. The trial version does not support MPEG. The full-paid version has no such limitations, and also comes with a 30-day, money-back guarantee, so if you do not like it, you can return it for a refund.
The limitations of the trial version are HERE.
Good luck, and welcome to the forum.

We have had this "PRX5" problem with Exchange 2013 since the RTM version.  We recently applied CU3, and it did not correct the problem.  We have seen this problem on every Exchange 2013 we manage.  They are all installations where all roles
are installed on the same Windows server, and in our case, they are all Windows virtual machines using Windows 2012 Hyper-V.
We have tried all the "this fixed it for me" solutions regarding DNS, network cards, host file entries and so forth.  None of those "solutions" made any difference whatsoever.  The occurrence of the temporary error PRX5 seems totally random.
About 2 out of 20 incoming mail test by Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer fail with this PRX5 error.
Most people don't ever notice the issue because remote mail servers retry the connection later.  However, telephone voice mail systems that forward voice message files to email, or other such applications such as your scanner, often don't retry and
simply fail.  Our phone system actually disables all further attempts to send voice mail to a particular user if the PRX5 error is returned when the email is sent by the phone system.
Is Microsoft totally oblivious to this problem?
PRX5 is a serious issue that needs an Exchange team resolution, or at least an acknowledgement that the problem actually does exist and has negative consequences for proper mail flow.

I just updated to Adobe Reader 11.0.07 on my Mac OS version 10.6.8 and now the video files don't work.  How do I uninstall the update and return to the previous version?

I received a notice from Chris Campbell at Adobe that stated : "....we are aware that Macs created between 2006 and 2008 are currently running into problems using the latest release of Flash Player (version 13)."  My question is will the update of Adobe Reader 11.0.07 cause this problem with Flash Player 13 on my Mac?  Sometimes when I try to view streaming video I get sound but no video.

MacBook Pro  / Mozilla Firefox / Netflix / Silverlight Update solved - DON'T DWNLOAD FROM NETFLIX
I solved this problem tonight. I have a MacBook Pro with 10.5.8. I know, it's old. But I love my Netflix and I recently noticed that Firefox plays Netflix much better.  Then I suddenly got this message that I needed to download the latest Silverlight - it only takes 30 seconds! - WRONG.   However, after much searching, I finally did the steps in order and it worked.
This was after repeatedly downloading Silverlight from the Netflix site without success.  So here's what I did:
    1. Went to http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx
    2. Followed the directions. I felt like such an idiot for not doing it right before.
    3. Go to your hard drive and search for "Silverlight" to locate ANY existing Silverlight files: .dmg, etc.
[also check your Libary/ Internet Plug-ins, but the above search is faster]
    4. Drag it all to the trash and empty it.
    5. Go back to the Get  Silverlight page and click on the Install on that page, not the Netflix site.
    6. Note the steps for Safari or Mozilla Firefox - I wanted Firefox, so I follwed those instructions.
    7. Once it's installed, close all the browsers and Restart that bad boy. Right away.
    8. Open a browser, go to Netflix and proceed to joyfully rot your brain with Netflix content. Yay!

  • Import and Management of Video Files by Date Still Broken

It really is very disappointing that after 3 versions, and 110 bug fixes, basic things like importing or managing a video file by date is still completely broken.
Even more troubling, is that for someone who uses LR3 this is a very obvious problem, and should be very easy to fix.
When you import a file on a wide range of cameras the date that is used for the video file as far as LR3 is concerned is the date you are importing it, not the date it was taken. This makes any management of the file, especially when managed next to pictures, very difficult.
The problem, as far as I can tell, is that in Windows, a file has both a 'Date Created' and a 'Date Modified'. 'Date Created' is whenever the file was created on the PC. If you bought a new computer and transferred a bunch of files over on 30/12/2010, all of your files will have a 'Date Created' that is 30/12/2010 regardless of when the photos or videos were taken. Or if you take a video on September 1st and import it onto your computer September 15th, it will have a 'Date Created' of September 15th.
'Date Modified' however lists the date that the file was last changed. For video files, that most likely was the date the video was shot.
Every program I have ever used for video files has always organized them by Date Modified (when organizing them by date). For example, its the default in Windows 7 Explorer when showing video files, all the video files listed by the date you have taken them. Date Created really doesnt have any useful information.
Its inexplicable to me why LR3 uses Date Created instead of Date Modified. It is a glaring error, that should be easily fixed. Microsoft can manage to do it right, as a byproduct in its OS, Im not sure why an imaging company in a $400 piece of specialist software cannot.
And just in case this is overlooked as a minor problem, it certainly is not. It happens to the following cameras:
D90 (first camera to shoot video)
D3s (thought by many to be the best low light camera)
D7000 (likely to be Nikon's most important DSLR)
D3100 (likely to be Nikon's most purchased DSLR)
Canon S95 (one of 2 most popular P+S for DSLR owners)
Fuji 31fd (Ill never forget you!)
And those are just the cameras I have on my desk, Im sure it happens to many others.
Also, when importing these files by date, LR3 will import them into a folder 1 date later then the date that LR3 is using for the file. So, just to be clear, you could take a video on May 1st, import it into LR3 on May 2nd and LR3 would say it was taken May 2nd, and it would be placed in the folder for May 3rd.
Im really not sure why something so basic has not been addressed in so long, and it makes any sort of managment of video files by date in LR3 useless.
    Very disappointing.

I agree that the wrong file system date is being used. But I scanned all my Lightroom files (manually) tagged with 'video'. When the file contains suitable metadata with a capture time that is used. When that's missing, the (wrong) file system date is used.
Interestingly I even found one camera where the dates were originally right (in 2009), then disappeared for a while (probably due to a firmware upgrade!) and then came back again. Summary of what I found:
Very old (Philips) webcam / format AVI / no metadata visible / wrong date
Canon Powershot A80 / format AVI / metadata visible / right date
    Nokia N73 cellphone / format MP4 / no metadata / wrong date
Canon EOS 5D Mark II around 2009 / format MOV / metadata visible / right date
Canon EOS 5D Mark II around 2010 / format MOV / no metadata / wrong date
Canon EOS 5D Mark II around 2011 / format MOV / metadata visible / right date
So my conclusion is that the camera makers are making a bit of a mess when they introduced video. Nikon introduced its video a year or so later than Canon. I don't know if "no metadata" means that there is none, or that Adobe just doesn't like the format. But given the pattern of the firmware updates with Canon, it looks like Canon and Adobe ultimately agreed on the format. But in any case Lightroom (I am using 3.4.1) has a bug w.r.t. its fallback scenario of reading file system dates.
In my case, the dates changed when I copied all my data from one disk (old NAS) to a new one (new NAS). It is disconcerting that you get the copying date despite comparison tools declaring the files to be identical (Beyond Compare 3 also keeps an eye on date differences).
    Hope this helps, Peter

  • Getting a Rendering Error "No Video in File" and now corrupted video file

I've been working with some video footage in Final Cut that I recorded directly to my hdd using adobe Onlocation. I used the chroma key filter on it and then added an animation clip from After Effects, in the form of a .mov file to my timeline. When trying to render my timeline I get the "no video in file error."
I used the render manager and trashed all the render files, then I manually searched my hdd and trashed any other render files I could find. Still getting the same error message. Gave up and decided to start from scratch except that now my original video file that I recorded with Onlocation is corrupted and I can't preview it in Quicktime nor play it in Onlocation. It also imports into final cut as a white screen.
This is the only copy of the file I have (I know, stupid me right?) so any help or suggestions would be greatly, GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks so much for your suggestions, the File Salvage option from digital rebellion worked!! Good as new!! made a backup and going to attempt to complete my project, but any ideas on why adding the AE clip to the timeline caused the corruption of the video file in the first place?

    Hi,
I am getting an error message "Unrecognised Compression" when trying to import an FLV file into Premiere Pro CS5.5.
Should I just download a free convertor and convert to mp4 or wmv or are there any other options to import it into CS5.5? If anyone can recommend a free convertor I would be grateful.

  • File Import Error / distorted image CS3 3.2.0 - Blackmagic Uncompressed 10-bit YUV NTSC 4:3

    Hi All-
I have been capturing some old VHS tapes using Blackmagic Media Express via a Decklink HD Extreme 2 card (composite in, RCA audio in) and then subsequently editing the files in Premiere Pro CS3 ver. 3.2.0.  But I'm running into a strange problem with the image being very distorted upon import into Premiere.
The capture settings in Blackmagic Media Express are as follows: NTSC, Uncompressed 10-bit YUV, 29.97, drop frame.  After capture and before editing in Premiere, I watch the capture file in Windows media player and it looks and sounds fine.
When I create a new Premiere project to edit the clip, I use the following preset: Blackmagic Design, NTSC, 10-bit YUV, 4 x 3.
When I import the .avi file created during the media express capture into the new Premiere project, the image becomes extremely distorted.  However, if I choose any other preset in Premiere, the image looks OK, which seems strange because the other presets do not match the import file settings.  I should note that when I render the distorted looking file out using the Premiere media encoder, the file looks OK.
Any suggestions?  I cannot figure out why the video is not importing or showing correctly in Premiere. Help!
    Thanks a bunch,
    Rex

Has this process EVER produced non-distorted video when imported into Premiere?
If this is a NEW problem, then what has changed since the process last worked properly?
If this is a FIRST TIME process and problem, my guess is a video driver that is not 100% compatible with what you are doing... you provide no other information, so it could be you need a newer (or, sometimes, older) video driver
Windows updates have been known to cause problems
Work through all of the steps (ideas) listed at http://ppro.wikia.com/wiki/Troubleshooting
If your problem isn't fixed after you follow all of the steps, report back with ALL OF THE DETAILS asked for in the FINALLY section, the questions at the end of the troubleshooting link... most especially the codec used... see Question 1
