Lightroom 4 and cs5

Hi
When using lr3 I could go out directly from lr3 and edit in camera raw then go into cs5
Now I have upgraded to lr4 I can not get to camera raw
Why ?

The latest ACR version for Photoshop CS5 is ACR 6.7.
For full compatibility with Lightroom you need the corresponding/current ACR version, which by now is ACR 7.3, which in turn requires Photoshop CS6.
"Edit in Photoshop" still works, but you need to choose "Render Using Lightroom". The net result is exactly the same whether Lightroom renders the image or ACR does it from within Photoshop, however some additional options aren't available (such as open as smart object).
Before you get mad at Adobe for not providing "full compatibility" consider that there are new features that the older ACR version simply didn't have.

  • 16 Gb vs. 8 Gb of RAM for Lightroom 3 (and CS5.5) on the Mac?

    Hi!
Being a Lightroom newbie -- I've used the CS apps quite a lot -- I thought I'd repost this question here (the original thread can be found at http://forums.adobe.com/message/4056775#4056775).
I've ordered a Macbook Pro 15-inch with a 2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor. I'm going to be using it, most importantly, to run the CS5.5 Master collection -- as well as, for the first time, Lightroom 3.
My question is: should I bite the bullet and get 16 Gb of RAM right away? Or would that be just a waste of money, 8 Gb being sufficient for my purposes? That is, how much of a difference would the RAM doubling make for Lightroom use (as well as Photoshop and Bridge)? I generally work with moderate-sized images (< 200 Mb; though I may be getting a higher-resolution camera in the near future). I do like to keep several big apps open (e.g. Bridge, Photoshop, and InDesign).
The 16 Gb vs. 8 Gb price difference is, of course, huge (something like 350 euros vs. 50 euros). Money's kind of tight (I got the Adobe student discount for the software), and I feel I really should be saving up for a better camera.
Do you think the Macbook is otherwise up to the task (if I forget serious video editing, as discussed in the other thread)?

    Thanks!
gatorjim2000: both Crucial (crucial.com) and OWC (macsales.com) have 16 Gb kits for the Macbook Pro.
web-weaver: I don't have LR on my old computer, so I can't take a look at memory usage right now.
As for other apps, I was kind of hoping to have a machine where I could have several big apps open simultaneously. But since I'll be getting an SDD (I hope a 128 Gb isn't too little? I'll add an HDD in place of the optical drive), applications will at least be starting quickly.

  • Lightroom 3 and CS5 Issue

    I'm getting the following issue.
From Lightroom, if I select "edit in photoshop CS5" and then complete some edits and re-save the file, I will get the 2 of 2 etc in my filmstrip.
However, If I start to work on that image again in lightroom, any adjustment I make causes a flicker, and then the image renders itself again.  It blinks, and re-renders with the new adjustment.  Very annoying.
The only solution is to shut down lightroom and then re-open it.
Anyone else have this problem and if so, has anyone figured out what might be causing it?
    Thanks.
    Fulvio

Are you selecting the original file in Lightroom and then 'Edit in Photoshop'?  When I do this and then save to the same folder in Photoshop the new file shows up in Lightroom's catalog without any further action be me.  Do you have the Photoshop option set to 'Maximise PSD compatibility'?

  • Lightroom 3 and cs5 --Edit in Photoshop

I uplgraded to cs5 and LR3. I notice when I edit in PS, I no longer get popup asking if I want to edit with LR adjustmenst, etc. When I select edit in PS it opens in PS with LR adjustments then saves back into LR.
I cannot find an option to turn this on or off. Can anyone tell me if this is a change in LR or if I might not be finding an option to turn on and off?

    Thank you very much Rob.
I tried your suggestion and it worked fine

  • Lightroom 4 (and CS5) and FFF Files

I'm working on Mac with Lion.
I've taken a series (thousands) of tethered picture with Phocus in multi shot mode (4 shot) with a H4D-50.
The strange thing is that Lightroom is bundled with the camera but can't see the files! Trying to import there's no file available.
CS5 can open the file, but not in Camera Raw... Why?
I need to open FFF multi shot file with ACR (either LR or PS). Any solution?
    Thanks,

FFF is not fullt supported by Lr or Camera Raw. See response in linked thread from Camera Raw forum.

  • Attempts at installing Lightroom and Cs5 on new iMac

I just purchased and received a new iMac.  I have used one for a few years and had purchased Lightroom 3 and Cs5 for it.  Now that I have a new computer, I would like to use both programs with it.  But when I insert the cd's to install, nothing happens.  Usually, an installation window appears to step me through the process.  I tried a Mac software (iWork) that I had used with my other computer and did not have any problems so it's not the computer.  I am hoping that I can use these two programs with the new computer, especially since I have several hundred dollars invested in both.  Can anyone tell me how to solve this issue?  Thanks!

Does your DVD for the installation of the Adobe software works on the Different computer ?

  • Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS5.5

If I upgrade Lightroom from 3.6 to 4, but leave Photoshop at CS5.5, will there be any problems with Camera Raw? Will I end up with two versions of Camera Raw or any incompatibility between the new Camera Raw and CS5.5?
    I have Windows 7 x64.
    Thanks

Got a partial answer from chat. Will now just do it.

You will not get two versions of the ACR plugin itself installed, because LR incorporates this internally within its program. CS5.5 and its own ACR will be unaffected.
However the communication method between the new LR and your PS version, and also the nature of adjustments saved by LR onto images which are then opened into PS, will suffer some reduced compatibility compared with how you work now.
There are options for passing images from LR to PS, whereby LR renders its adjustments into a bitmap file which PS then opens directly (completely bypassing ACR) - and in that case, ACR support of Raws or editing metadata becomes accordingly moot. LR steps fully into this role, in other words.
This workaround does restrict the functions of passing multiple images for HDR or stitching or as layers.
It also impairs the use of Smart Object workflow since embedded image data may have LR4 edits saved onto it, which cannot be properly used when the Smart Object is later opened into the older-version ACR for further adjustment.
Where a particular image has been worked on inside LR4 using the older process version (2010) - which is fully LR3-compatible (as your current ACR is also) - there will in that special case, be the same compatibility of metadata and adjustments as you currently experience. In effect, for that particular image, LR4 emulates LR3.

  • Lightroom 5 with CS5 Suite

I use the CS5 Design Standard Edition.
Now I thought about using Lightroom additionally, and acquire it.
I have read that Lightroom works with Camera Raw in Version 8.
Camera Raw in version 8 can not be applied to CS 5. But I do not want to update my CS5.
What can I do now? Should I use a prior version of Lightroom? Proposals for solutions would be reuqested and very much appreciated.

    Hi Christian,
You can have Lightroom 5 installed alongside CS5, but opening RAW files in Photoshop from LR will be problematic.
You can get around this by choosing "Render using Lightroom" when you open it in Photoshop:

  • Lens Correction in Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS4

I just upgraded to Lightroom 3 and make use of the lens correction feature in the develop module. After doing all my
adjustments in develop I click ctrl-E to take the photo into Photoshop so  I can tweak Levels. I noticed that the lens correction adjustments do not seem to be recognized by CS4 when the photo opens up.
Do I have to upgrade to CS5 to get the lens correction adjustments in LR3 recognized or am I doing something wrong. Thanks

    I am using Lightroom 3.4, x64, and Photoshop CS5 (12.0.3 x64) on Win 7 OS.
I might add that, based upon my situation, limited knowledge & experience, I have a number of images ( aprox 200), taken with the same camera/lens combination, for which I want to take advantage of what seem to me the most useful features of each software package:  in this case, the ability of Lightroom to apply common "development", first in lens correction and, later at the end, miscellaneous common settings; but, in the middle rotation & crop unique to each image.
Am I missing something, for I would think my situation not uncommon?

I have discs for Creative Suite but the LR was downloaded originally so I don't have the disc. • How do I change my external editor in Lightroom back to CS5?

I have Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS5.  I installed CS6 to experiment, but I don't really want to "work" with it.  However, it changed the settings in Lightroom to default to CS6 as my external editor.  How can I change this back to CS5?

    Hey,
I checked with Kelly Castro on the LR team and he said you should be able to save each of your external apps as presets and then they should both be available.  He gave me the steps, too:
    1.  Lightroom > Preferences > External Editing
    2.  Under Additional External Editor, clci the “Choose” button next to Application
    3.  Navigate to Applications folder and select Photoshop CS5
    4.  Set Editing attributes (File Format, Color Space, Bit Depth, Res)
    5.  Click on preset menu and select “Save Current Settings as New Preset”
    6.  Name the new Preset “Photoshop CS5” and click “Create”
