Lightroom 4 and Nikon D800

I am using Mac with Lion, Lightroom 4 and 6.7 beta ACR. I am converting  to DNG on import and none of my vertical shots are not automatically rotating to the correct orientation. Just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem?
Thanks
Chad

Don't know about your camera, but on the D90 there is a menu option that has to be set in order to rotate tall.  Have you set that option?

  • Lightroom 4 corrupting Nikon D800 RAW files on import

Has anyone experienced Lightroom 4 corrupting Nikon D800 RAW files on import?

How do you know they aren’t corrupted before you import, or the old one wasn’t already corrupted and you just regenerated the preview and could then see the corruption where what you saw, before was from the preview cache and not the current image?
Is the corruption a problem with the Previews or does LR actually choke on the file and say it is unreadable or show you a gray thumbnail or pixilation starts halfway down the photo.
Can you prove the files were intact coming off the card and only are corrupted after importing into LR?  Can you get to the originals on the card, still?

Does Lightroom 3 support Nikon D800 Camera RAW

No, you can either upgrade to LR4 or use Adobe's free DNG Converter to work with your images in LR3 as DNGs.

  • Tethering issue lightroom 4.4 and Nikon D800

I'm having trouble tethering my Nikon D800 to Lightroom 4.4.
Attempts at tethering mostly produce "No Camera Detected" after File > Tethered Capture in Lightroom.
There have been some occasions however when the camera was detected and tethering functioned for a short while.
These successful occasions happened using the same approach and equipment.
I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Version 6.1 (with i7) and both camera and Lightroom have been updated.

Thanks for the help. I have made progress this way: I updated the drivers for the Nikon D800 on the computer. Lightroom and Nikon's ViewNX2 were already fully updated. This didn't help. I deleted NikonView, restarted, and found the problem gone. Lightroom tethers as it should without ViewNX2 on the machine. This is still a mystery to me but I can tether.

  • Camera RAW and Nikon D800/CS6

I upgraded to Photoshop CS6 from CS5.X and I can not open RAW files in Camera RAW for my Nikon D800.  It functioned properly in CS5 with the latest RAW release but won't work in CS6.

    You need Camera Raw 7.1...

  • Lightroom 4 and Nikon D810

Will I need to upgrade or update Lightroom 4 to accomodate images from a Nikon D810 ?
And just in case, can CS5 handle the D810 RAWfiles ?

You will need to purchase an upgrade to Lightroom 5 and install at least Lightroom 5.6 in order to have support for the D810. The current version is 5.7.1. An alternative would be to download the free DNG converter from Adobe and create digital negative copies of your raw images that could be opened in Lightroom 4.

  • CS6 and Nikon D800

My Nikon D800 and CS6 are not playing nice. I have updated CS6 and some of the updates have errors. I am getting U44M1P7 error message...whatever that means. I can load photos into Bridge. From there it goes thru a translation program that takes quite a long time. Ultimately, the photos showup in my CS6 on the top bar. I can not get them to thumbnail preview or into slideshow. I can view a selected photo, but can't do any editing. Any guesses? My Nicon D7000 works well with this software. I don't get what the problem could be.

Will CS6 and Windows 7 (32 bit) open Nikon D800 Raw files?
Yes, you just need to update Camera Raw to the latest version (7.1).
Also, beware of Nikon Transfer, which has been known to modify the D800 raw files making them incompatible with Camera Raw. Adobe Photodownloader does not have this problem.

  • Aperture v3.2.3 and Nikon D800

I have just received a new Nikon D800. Aperture and IPhoto both do not load all photos from the camera and many times the programs hand-up.
I have downloaded the latest add-on to be handle the Nikon D4.
    Any available solution?

    Hi Leighton,
also using a D800 and haven't experienced any problems with the image format after imports using Aperture 3.2.2. I import by using a standalone CF card reader and sometimes using the iMac build in SD card reader. I went back to 3.2.2 as 3.2.3 continuelly crashed (but there's another topic for that).
As far as I have noticed all images imported without problems and all the metadata does seem to be there. This includes the focus points except for images I took with manual focus. As I shoot and import more images I will keep checking and let you know if I do experience problems.
Did you retry to reprocess the masters when it failed to see whether it was a problem during import only?
Often editing of the D800 files is similar to editing D700 on my iMac 2009 model - with Intel i7 and 8Gb memory. But I sometimes experience extreme slowdowns while (mask) editing D800 files. Not sure yet when it pops-up. Especially while masking it sometimes freezes for about 30 to 45 seconds with a very high cpu load (between 400 and 600%) and it seems without any disk activity. If I redo the same operation it doesn't happen again.

  • When will a Camera Raw new version become available  for CS5 and Nikon D800 images ??  Any clues?

I understand that I have presently  an option to download the Beta version ACR 6.7  and it expires by May 31st.
Does this mean that a new ACR version will become available for regular automatic update on or before that date?
I just want to know when will I be able to enjoy processing  the images from the new Nikon D800   I hace CS5

I would expect Adobe to support the current version of LR with the current version of PS as usual.
Last time it was the opposite, but this time, LR4 with PV2012 came out, first, when CS5/ACR6.x was the current version so I would expect Adobe to release a final CS5-compatible ACR that knows how to render, but not adjust PV2012 recipes from LR4.  This is what ACR 6.7RC attempts to do but with some luminance differences with certain PV2012 toning sliders near their extremes.    Adobe rushed things a bit, this time, due to the D800 and 5D.3 cameras coming out about the same time and wanting to make big spenders happy sooner rather than later, so I expect they are taking extra time to get things right in the released versions of ACR 6.7, ACR 7 and LR 4.1.  With CS6 also coming out, and the economy still on the rocks in many areas of the world and country, resources are stretched thing, but I expect all will resolve in time.

  • Lightroom 3 and Nikon D5100

    Hi,
I just recieved my Nikon D5100 today and it looks as if Lightroom doesn't recognize raw for the camera.  It worked perfectly with my Nikon D5000.  Does anyone know when Lightroom will support D5100 raw and if there's a workaround until it's officially supported?
    Chris

    I'm in the same situation.
    Failed options:
I could use NX, but then I would end up with jpegs or tiffs, neither of which is my permanent storage format (DNG), nor a viable alternative (not being raw).
I tried to install Adobe DNG converter, but it prompted me to install their app manager, which then said it couldn't install DNG converter. (DNG converter 6.0.3.79 does not recognize the D5100's NEF files.)
Preview and Quick Look don't recognize them yet; no OS X support.
    Read-only:
Xee does open the D5100's NEF files. (Version 2.2 is current from http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/xee.html .) It is designed for viewing, not editing; I use it for my first preview/cull step (sometimes).
The GIMP also opens the D5100's NEF files. (Version 2.6.1 from http://www.gimp.org/ , which says it uses UFRaw 0.17 which in turn uses DCRaw.) However, no option to save as DNG.

  • Lightroom 3 and Nikon d5200

hello. Is Nikon D5200 compatible with Lightroom 3 ? (sorry for my poor english)

The D5200 requires at least Lightroom 4.3. You will either have to upgrade, and it might as well be Lightroom 5 because Adobe doesn't sell Lightroom 4 anymore. You would have to find and from a retailer. Or, you could download the latest version of the DNG converter and use it for a few months and wait for Lightroom 6. The upgrade price will probably be the same.

  • Lightroom 4 and Nikon D7200

Will there be an update that makes it possible to import and process Nikon D7200 NEF files in Lightroom 4?

There won't be any updates to version 4, or to version 5, for that matter.
You can either upgrade to LR6, or use the latest version of the free DNG converter to convert the NEFs to dng, and import them into LR.

I have Lightroom 4.4 and a Nikon d800 with firmware upgrade 2.005. raw files are now since upgrade, unreadable. any plugins or advice? Thanks

I select the images I want uploaded, NEF files, click the "IMPORT" button, process bar comes up and shows work in progress, but no progress. after about 2 minutes, dialogue box appears with message: "unable to import because the following files are unreadable: NEFxxxx, etc."

  • Will Photoshop Elements 11 and Lightroom 4 support conversation of RAW files from a Nikon D800?

I'm currently using Photoshop Elements 9 and must convert RAW files from my Nikon D800 to .dng files before processing using a added converted.  I'm considering upgrading to either Elements 11 or Lightroom 4 but want to know if either of these programs will support the nikon D800 RAW files without having to go through this extra cumbersome step.   Additionally, if I do go with Lightroom 4, will the transition be easy or difficult and what problems might I encounter?

Yes the D800 is fully supported in both applications.
You would certainly benefit in processing your 36mp raw files using Lightroom if you have a 64bit PC or Mac with additional memory (RAM). The Lightroom develop module is where you do all the editing and you get the benefit of the full CS6 raw engine in an intuitive interface.
If you regularly use the Elements Organizer you should understand Lightroom quite easily.
Why not download the free trial of LR4 and test for 30 days.

  • Nikon D800 and Lightroom

I have Lightroom 3 currently and updated to 3.6
I purchased the Nikon D800 and shoot my images with the RAW setting. However, these images will not transfer to Lightroom. I was told that I need Lightroom 4 in order to be able to transfer RAW images.
Is this 100% accurate? I do not want to purchase Lightroom 4 assuming this will be the answer.
PLEASE if someone could respond ASAP that would be great.

So if I purchase the Lightroom 4 software, my RAW files WILL transport from my Nikon D800?
Yes, as per the link provided by twenty_one above.
I get the teacher/student discount. Is L4 downloadable online or should I order it from Amazon, etc.?
Adobe sells Student and Teacher versions online
