Lightroom 4 and the Leica M monochrom

When I import files from the M Monochrom there are no actual previews in the import dialog window. Also LR4 does not indicate the aperture used in either the library or develop module. Any suggestions?

I'm assuming that you're on a Mac, as this bug does not (to the best of our knowledge) occur on Windows. Unfortunately, this is an Apple bug. On the Mac, Lightroom uses Image Capture (Apple software that's installed as part of the Mac OS) to display thumbnails in the Import dialog. Image Capture version 6.2 broke support for monochrome DNG previews. We have reported the bug to Apple. If and when they fix it, the problem in Lightroom should just go away. But without eliminating reliance on Image Capture, fixing this issue is out of Adobe's hands. (For any interested Adobe employees reading this, the Watson bug number is 3463549 and the Radar bug number is 13569454.)
Regarding the problem of aperture not showing up in Lightroom, my guess is that (at least for a given lens), the Leica Monochrom is not correctly writing that metadata into the file. That's just a guess though. If you'd like to provide me with a sample file, I can examine the file's internal metadata to see if the aperture value is missing, or if it's present and Lightroom is just not reading it correctly for some reason. Probably the easiest way for you to send me a file is to upload it to Dropbox or YouSendIt or a similar service, and then post the link here.

I am on Lightroom 5 and the exposure and white balance adjustment tools on the right side of the screen have disappeared. How do I restore them?

Right click on one of the other panel headers e.g Tone Curve and a menu will pop up for you to select Basic.
How it gets de-selected is not apparent but several users have had this happen since the release of version 5. It has ahppened to me on at least two occasions.

I tried to import the SD card via iPhoto into Lightroom 4 but could not find it. I tried to find this "folder"? via other means with no success. however when I open iPhoto, there it is, so it must be on the Hard Drive somwhere??? I am new to Apple having decided to jump ship from Windows. Would be grateful for any help.

iPhoto is a - like Lightroom - Photo Manager. It's a database. Like any db to get data out you have to export it.
File -> Export
and in this case set the Kind to Original.
iPhoto is a $15 app, LR is somewhat more expensive. As they both want to manage the photos there's no good usage scenario where you use both. Pick one horse and ride, essentially.

Lightroom 2 and Camera Profiles for the Nikon D50

Hi,
I've installed Lightroom v2 and the new Camera Profiles, as per the instructions and various postings I should now see my camera name appear in the Profile section of Camera Calibration.
The default profile is ACR 4.4 and when I drop the list down I see the usual settings and Camera D2X Mode 1 Beta 1, Mode 2, etc. but no reference to Nikon D50?
The Metadata on my images is set to a Make of NIKON CORPORATION and a Model of NIKON D50.
Looking in C:\programdata\adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles\ I can see there is a D50 profile but Lightroom v2 isn't showing it.
Any ideas?

Why won't Aperture open Leica M Monochrom images even though I have all updates up to 4.09 ?

Apple is working on it. The Monochrome has a non-bayer sensor and until recently Apple wound not support non-bayer sensors. Apple has recently released a RAW update with support for the Xtrans Fuji cameras (also non-bayer). I understand that Apple usually get the camera in their labs in order to make the sensor profile. The MM was a hard to get camera until recently but this is non-issue now as far as I know.
Regarding the delay, I know it is taking too long. I wish it was out the day I got my camera. But to be honest, I rather wait and have a great decoder/rendering of the raw than a premature support and then later multiple updates (this would make me process my files twice or three times).
For the Fuji cameras, it also took long time, but it seems they got it right. From what I read on the net and from feedback from Fuji users, the rendering is equal if not better than the one provided by Adobe RAW/Lightroom.
My current workflow involves shooting DNG+JPG, once DNG support is release, I use the RAW as Original and process it futher if needed.

Did you purchased the Full Perpetual License from Adobe for $149.00?, if so then what has happened is that you probably downloaded the Creative Cloud trial version which has now expired.
The license key for the perpetual version will not be accepted to activate the CC version.
Uninstall the existing Lightroom and then download the one available from the link below. The uninstall process will not affect your Catalog, Preferences or personal files but will just remove the application. Install the new download and you license key will be accepted.

Lightroom doesn't use the Camera Raw plug-in. All of the Camera Raw technology is part of the Lightroom program. You will either have to upgrade to Lightroom 5 or use the DNG converter to create digital negative copies that can be used with Lightroom 4.
