Lightroom 4 Catalog marked open - unable to open Lightroom

I was using Lightroom 4 Windows 7 64 bit, had a power bump, re-booted, now I am unable to use Lightroom. I get a message box saying "The Lightroom catalog named Lightroom 4 catalog cannot be opened because another application already has it opened Quit the other copy of Lightroom before trying to launch" To my knowledge I have no copies open!

Go to the folder that contains your catalog and in there you should find a file entitled yourcatalogname.lrcat.lock. This is the temporary lock file which is created when a catalog is opened (and thus prevents anyone else trying to use it), and is deleted when the catalog is closed. In your case, i.e. an abnormal termination, the file never got deleted so now LR thinks it's already open. Simply delete the lock file (and make sure you don't delete the catalog by mistake!), then restart LR.

Lightroom 3.4.1 unable to open

I am unable to open Lightroom after importing an image. The heading now reads when I try to open it, Lightroom- Opening Catalogue: - Wrights Water Garden 10 Feb 2007 (88) jpg.Ircad I guess I clicked on something I shouldn't have as I am new to the programme and doing a night course.
I have tried to reinstall Lightroom but it came out the same, but I didn't take it off the computer as afraid i might not be able to use the same number. I have tried going into my my documents and into my pictures then Lightroom and tried unticking read only but this didn't make any difference. I am getting really upset as don't know what to do next. Bet you have an image "Wrights Water Garden 10 Feb 2007 (88).jpg" and you tried to open it as a catalog.
The proper catalog should still be in your Lightroom folder. Double click on it.

Corrupt Lightroom Catalog

I was recently working on a Lightroom 4 catalog that was saved on a G-Drive when the hard drive failed. I was able to recover the catalog using data recovery software, but now when I try to open it, Lightroom says it's unable to open due to an unexpected error. I've tried renaming the catalog, importing from a new catalogue, and opening various ways, but nothing works. The catalog seems corrupt. Help! Is there any way to recover the catalog?

The message you are getting could be caused by the presence of the so-called lock-file. The purpose of the lock file is to prevent that a catalog file can be opened twice at the same time.
Therefore it should be present when a catalog has been opened with/by Lr. But the lock-file should be deleted (automatically) when the catalog has been closed by Lr. It happens sometimes that on closing of a catalog, the lock-file is not deleted, particularly when Lr does not close down but is interrupted by a crash or hardware failure. The lock-file then prevents any further opening of this catalog and Lr sends the message you are getting.
With Lr closed check in Mac Finder / Win Explorer if you can find a lock-file. The lock file sits directly besides (i.e. in the same folder) the catalog file in question.
The catalog is a file with the extension < .lrcat>; the lock-file has the extension < .lrcat.lock>
If - for instance - you have a catalog file named <123xyz.lrcat>, the lock-file would have the name <123xyz.lrcat.lock>.
If, while Lr is closed, you see a lock-file, delete it, i.e. send it to the Trash Can / Recycle Bin.

Unable to open FCP 5 files in FCP 6.0.1

I just upgraded to Final Cut Studio 2 a few weeks ago.
I tried to open one of my current projectsin Final Cut Pro 6.0.1. After reading 22 percent of this project the following error message appeared:
The project can't be opened (unable to open this project)
or it is to new for this Final Cut Pro version
I already deleted the FCP prefs and cache files.
What could be the problem? Mybe the project file is corrupt??

i have the same problem. have You found a solution so far?
I tried several options so far. I can save and reopen a new project. And I can open the old project in FCP 5.1 without a problem. I even tried this for different projects, so I don'T think they are all corrupted.
Is there a workaround that you know about? I am pretty desperate.

Also, sending e-documents by email always leaves a chance that the doc gets lost, misdirected, or damaged.
Far better is using a file sharing service (Acrobat.com, Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, ...) and send the download linkl via email.

I have Windows 7 Home premium, Lightroom 5.6 64bit The program was working
properly till a few weeks ago. At that time I was not able to get my
files. There was the little question mark on them. I have three external
drives with pictures in them. H and G drives all have question marks as to

another Catalog Call Lightroom Catalog 2. So when I tried to launch

opens. The message just sits there. There are error messages. The
external drive with Lightroom 5 Catalog.Ircat continues to work fine on my
laptop.

In reviewing similar questions on the forum it looks like this might have been caused when my computer shut down suddenly when Lightroom was still open. A response to a similar previous question suggested looking for the file with a .lock extension and deleting it or renaming it. I checked my files and found none with a .lock extension.

Yes, that is the file. Lightroom creates that every time the program starts. It's part of the underlying database technology integrated in Lightroom. If Lightroom shuts down abnormally, or there is a different problem with of the computer system that forces the shutdown of the program this file can be left as an orphan. And it has to be deleted before you can start Lightroom again.

Bought a new 2013 Mac Pro and did a new install of Photoshop and Lightroom. Then physically moved my data drives over from Mac Pro (10.8.6), but LR won’t open any of the existing catalogs on the new computer (10.9.5). How and where did you create that small catalog? Sorry for the question, but you do have licensed version of LR 5 and you only use it in your old computer? In other words, you do not have a second copy installed on a laptop, do you?
If you have a licensed version and have only install it in your old computer and you cannot create a brand new catalog on the SSD with the enclosure disconnected (forget about the catalog already on the SSD drive), it is likely to be the installation. If this the case, try downloading the 5.7.1 and reinstall (Adobe - Lightroom : For Macintosh : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1). I would recommend to do the reinstall with the enclosure disconnected, after it is done check if you can create a catalog on the local drive, if you ca connect the enclosure.

Can you try to rename (not delete!) the folder named "YOUR_CATALOG_NAME Previews.lrdata" and restart Lightroom?

Open Pictures folder and move the files named lrcat-journal and lrcat.lock to Desktop.
Make sure that , they are not inside Pictures folder any more and try to open backup from Lighrtroom and check..
Any LRcat file with .lock extension , move it to Desktop.

Make sure you don't have another copy of Lightroom actively running on your computer. If not, find your catalog file in Finder/Explorer. Look for a file with the same name, but with a .lock extension. delete that file. Now Lightroom should open the catalog again.

I figured it out. You have to select the actual logo of the Lightroom catalog and then click on "get info" and allow what ever your new user name to "read and write". That worked!

Error. Lightroom catalog can't open

Hello I keep getting the error: 'The Lightroom catalog named Lightroom 5 catalog cannot be opened because another application already has it opened' when opening Lightroom. There is no other application using it. there is only one file available, no back up as I have been uploading a 5.3TB catalogue over the past 4 days and didn't shut down. the RAW files sit on a separate hard drive to the laptop where the Lightroom catalogue is. I cannot now access that catalogue. I had a crash prior to this happening ... can anyone help out there?

I just wonder whether it was GB not TB!!!!

What happens if you try File->Open Recent? What happens if you have your operating system search all of your hard disks for files whose name ends with .LRCAT?
