Lightroom 4, catalog will not open

Hi
I am sure this has happend to me in the past but I cannot find out how I solved it.
Basically I can only open some of my catalogs in Lightroom, Lightroom just hangs with nothing on the screen and I have to force quit it.
Yesterday I installed the lightroom plugin 'Jeffrey Friedl's Eport to Flickr'
I am using Lightroom 4.4
Any ideas?

I remembered, I had to remove the .lock file in the same folder as your catalog file.

  • My catalog will not open in Photoshop Elements 3.0

I had to reinstall the program and it worked fine.  I was able to restore all my pictures.  Today when I tried to open it the "my Catalog" will not open.  I've tried refreshing, restarting the system, restoring to yesterday and nothing has helped.  What should I try next?

What error message do you see upon opening your catalog?
    Thanks

  • D800 & lightroom 4.1 will NOT open or recognize my photos.

I have a D800 & lightroom 4.1 will NOT open or recognize my photos.  They were shot normally, not in live mode or video or whatever I read while searching for a solultion.  This is very frustrating.

Yes, but if it screws up the files so they can't be used in Lightroom,
just how useful is it really?
It only corrupts the files if you use an old version that doesn't know
anything about the nefs from more recent cameras. If you use the latest
version that has been updated for your camera, there is no problem. Some
people are apparently still using the original Nikon Transfer that is years
old. Transfer2 is now part of Nikon ViewNX2, which is updated for each
release of a new Nikon camera.
    Nikon has confirmed this:

  • Lightroom 5 (trial) will not open

I am a Lightroom 3 user who is trying to migrate to a new Win8 computer. I initially tried to get LR3.6 on my new machine but had problems. As LR3 is not supported I've decided to upgrade. I downloaded LR5 onto my new machine using Firefox, went through the installation steps, and appear to have an installed version of LR5 (the shortcut is on my desktop and startup tiles). But when clicking or tapping or right-clicking to open it will not open. Just sits there.
I have already migrated my photo collection to the new machine, as well as my old 3.6 catalog. I found something about the catalog .lock file on another forum, which said that if that file is still present (it was, right there next to my catalog) LR won't open. I deleted the .lock file but it has not helped, LR5 is still inert. I've also tried re-starting after installing. Any ideas? Is there a setting I'm missing on Win8?
    Thanks in advance.
    Brad
PS I plan to buy once I get this working.

I reinstalled LR to the regular 32-bit program folder and it seems to have fixed it.  I have finally been able to open it  There seems to be an issue with the install of the 64-bit version.  I ran the install aagain to try and repair the 64-bit version and it ran through fine but I was still unable to open it after that.  I even DL some rec file for 64-bit version but it did not help.
Advice - install to your 32-bit program file until this is corrected....

  • My Lightroom 5.3 will not open.  I get an error box about cannot address preview cache

Lightroom 5.3 has been working fine, but now after locking up while trying to do 1:1 previews it will not open and gives an error box about cannot address preview cache.  I have deleted and re-installed with no help.

Try deleting .lrdata folder "adjacent to" (in same folder as) catalog (.lrcat file).
To be clear: delete entire .lrdata folder (but NOT the one that has 'Smart Previews' in the name, if there is one), and nothing else.
Be patient: Lr will need to rebuild previews...

  • HELP! Lightroom CC file will not open "edit in" Photoshop CC after upgrade

help! I use Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC and I used to be able to "EDIT IN" and choose Photoshop which would then open up the image in Photoshop. Just updated last night (auto via CC) now it will NOT open in Photoshop...any suggestions! thank you!

Are you using Photoshop CC or Photoshop CC 2014?

  • Lightroom CC (2015) will not open

Installed Lightroom CC (2015) and the app will not open. OS is OS X Yosemite 10.10.3

OK, just found the solution on one of the other forums:  DON'T "quit" CC you must sign out instead
    Click on your CC icon.
    Click on the gear icon.
    Click on Preferences.
    Sign out of CC.
    Sign back in.
    Don't click on "Quit."
I had been QUITTING CC and relaunching. Try signing out.
This worked and everything seems to be fine. Dave

  • Adobe Photoshop elements - the catalog will not open on the new laptop I just bought.

I installed the Adobe software for Elements 5.0. The catalog won't open. The new laptop uses Windows 7. Could that be the problem? If so, how do I rectify the problem?

    Hi,
Actually, I did eventually get it to open. However, the photos are no longer tagged. I recovered the photos from my external hard drive, which is where I always stored them.
So you are saying that I would need to actually to a BACKUP from ELEMENTS itself? If I do that, the tags will still be attached to the photos? I have over 6000 photos. I do not want to have to reorganize and re tag them again.
Thank you for any suggestions you can provide!

  • JPGs exported from Lightroom 5.6 will not open in other applications

Recently I have noticed that jpgs exported from Lightroom 5.6 can not be opened in Canon DPP 3.14 and can not be resized using Image Resizer plugin. Both of these I use frequently.
I have seen mention of this issue re other applications also. Does anyone know if there is a solution?
    I am using Windows 8.1 64bit. 5D Mark ii

This was an issue with 5.5 (the placement of some of the internal headers of the jpgs was changed and some other applications, including DPP, could not open them), but was corrected in 5.6. I just checked on it by exporting a jpg and opening it with no problem in DPP 3.14.15, Windows 7 x64. Are your jpgs old ones from LR 5.5?

  • Lightroom 2.1 will not open!!

Running OS X.5.5 on macbook pro. No problems to date. Suddenly LR won't open. It quits on start up. Adobe helpdesk says I have to create a new mac user and work with that. Duh?

Hi Right I have done the following:
Removed the lock files off my main catalog, the backups I tried to open and the new catalogs I created. Still the same issue
Not sure how to remove my ID plate with out being in LR (it was made up of fonts in LR and not an image. - I checked to see if the fonts were installed and activated)
Re downloaded the Mac osx Combo Updater 10.5.5 and ran it, rebooted, caches got emptied.
I reinstalled LR2.1 again, and have been alt clicking and just trying to make a new catalog each time.
    BUT! crashes each time
I also have set up a new user and ran that - it progressed a little further - I got in, but after a short while it crashed too.
Of note is before it would just hang, and you would need to force quit, now it crashs and asks me to report problem to apple.
Thanks for your suggestions Martin and John. Is there any thing else I can try? - before I reinstall my system? What about uninstalling lightroom? how would I do that is there an uninstaller / clean up script like what CS4 has?
Also I have Jeffreys Export to Flickr Lightroom Plugin - can I disable this from out side lightroom?
I am at a loss - any other ideas?

  • Lightroom 5.3 will not open my A7r files but PS 6 will? Can anyone help?

I installed LR 5 from disc, then updated tp 5.2, and 5.3.  It still says my Sony A7r file can not be read.  However, my PS 6 opens the file from the sme card.  Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!!
    Sincerely,
    Greg

The "files cannot be read" message when you import means the DESTINATION specified in the upper-right of the Import panel is not writable by LR, so check where the files are supposedly being copied to.
The error occurs because the copy-function is unable to copy the files, then the import-function cannot read the files because they don't exist.
It would be more helpful if the error was given by the copy-function, saying that the files cannot be written, but it's been this way for many versions, now, and Adobe doesn't change it.

  • Lightroom 4.4 will not open despite deleting .lock file

I have deleted the .lock files already but am still getting "light room cannot be opened because another application has it opened" Help!!  I read on the forum to delete the .lock file but nothing seems to be working.

Have you used your system search feature to search your computer for such files. I know from past experience that it's easy to overlook files if you are trying to do it manually. It seems to me that there has to be one in the folder with your main catalog that you have been using. Do you know the location of that catalog?

  • Lightroom cc 2015 will not open after install today, 4/24/15

Today, 4/24/15, downloaded and installed Lightroom cc 2015 on my WIN 7 Dell 8300 Desktop machine.  The Icon appears on the desktop but it won't open.  I located the .exe file and double clicked on it and it won't open either.  The installed program listing indicates that Lightroom was installed today but it won't open.  I am currently running Lightroom 5.x, Photoshop cc 2015 and they still boot ok; they were also updated this afternoon.  Anybody have the same experience and figure out what needs to be done to fix the install?

    Robert-
please try signing out and back in (different from quitting the app) see this link:
sign in and sign out of the Creative Cloud desktop app
IF that doesn't help, please see option 2 at this link:
Lightroom doesn't launch or quits automatically after splash screen

  • Lightroom edited photo will not open in Photoshop CS5

    Can someone help please.
Just upgraded my mac to Yosemite and since then, having problems with using edit in Photoshop function from Lightroom. Have Lightroom Version 4.4 and Photoshop CS5
    Any ideas?

Try re-installing the, both. You migth run the Adobe CC Cleaner tool while they are uninstalled: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

  • Lightroom 5.5 will not open

It was downloaded from creative cloud and is showing as up to date. I am using it on a Mac. On clicking the doc icon (or directly via Finder) it briefly displays the splash screen then nothing. It was working previously. Os X 10.9.4 update installed recently is the only change. It won't launch in Safe Boot mode either. There is no lrcat lock file.

1st recommendation is to trash the preference file: Resetting (or 'Trashing') the Lightroom Preferences file - Lightroom Forums
if that doesn't work, I would do an uninstall/reinstall.
