Lightroom 4 Corrupt Catalog... Please Help!!!

Hello,
I recently tried to open lightroom 4 and I got an error message that states "The Lightroom catalog "Lightroom 4 Catalog" is corrupt and cannot be used or backed up until it is repaired". When I click "Repair catalog" Lightroom is unable to. I have tried renaming the catalog as was suggested in a similar fourum topic, but this did not work either. PLEASE HELP. I regretably have not backed up my catalog in a long time and there is a mountain of work I will have to redo if I can't fix this. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks for responding. So I tried creating a new catalog and then importing from the currupt one and it did not work. It says "lightroom cannot import this catalog because of an unknown error".
So this whole thing happened when my external drive, containing my lightroom catalog, accidentally came unplugged from my computer while I was working on photos. I have not been able to open the catalog since. Any other suggestions?

Corrupt catalog will not be fixed by re-installing the Lightroom software (although if I were you, I'd still find that disk!)
If I were you, I would first check a recent backup of your catalog file, and see if that will open (double-click on it in your operating system). If that opens properly, I would just use that file.
If it doesn't open properly, then one trick that sometimes works is to open a blank catalog in Lightroom, then File->Import from Another Catalog and point to the catalog file.

I can't open my most recent catalog but I can open older ones and it's not the lock file as there isn't one.... I get a crash report saying that lightroom encountered an error reading from it's preview cache and needs to quit but will try to fix the error on reopening but no matter how often I try, or even on restarting the PC I can't open the catalog. Can some one please help?! I have a client due in to see her photos

Lightroom not working-Please help!

I finished the 30 day trial for lightroom, and then I tried to pay for the monthly subscription, and the payment went through and I got the confirmation email, but it still only says "Trial Expired", so it's still not working!! Please help!

You are still trying to use the trial version that you downloaded. It is the standalone version, and has to be licensed differently. It will be necessary for you to uninstall that version of Lightroom, and then install Photoshop and Lightroom from the creative cloud application manager. After you install Lightroom properly, it will open just as it did before the trial expired, except that you won't get that opening trial screen anymore. All of your work will be intact. And you will be able to start right where you left off. The Lightroom program from the creative cloud application manager is precisely the same Lightroom program. The difference is in the licensing. The creative cloud realize on your Adobe ID and password whereas the standalone version relies on a serial number.

LR2 Experienced System Crash & Corrupted Catalog - Need Help!!!

We are using: Mac OS X Version 10.5.8
Background on Lightroom Use:
The size of the catalog in question is 296 MB.
Pictures on an 8GB smart card were being uploaded into lightroom and simultaneously moved into a folder on an external hard drive at the time of the crash. (During this download, the imac screen gave us a very scary...."Death Veil" that started at the top and slowly covered in a downward motion the entire screen, freezing up the computer completely.)
The error message said we needed to restart the computer using the restart option or shut the computer down using the on/off switch.
Since the computer was "frozen" we were unable to access the restart option so we hit the off switch, holding it down until the imac shut itself down.
After waiting for approximately a minute, we restarted the imac.
The imac started as it usually does, however, when we opened Lightroom2, the following message appeared:

Other catalogs are operating properly in LIghtroom.
We have no available backup and are looking for someone who can assist with
perhaps fixing the corrupted catalog. (Literally, thousands of hours)

If you ever ran "Save" on a lot of images, you'll have all your edits and metadata for those images, and if you ran save recently on the whole catalog of images, you'll be pretty well off. In such a case, I'd start a brand new catalog, and Import in place all the images.
However, assuming the worst, that the above avenue won't yield much, one particular Adobe employee, Dan Tull, is a whiz at repairing catalogs, and you may get it done by sending the catalog to him. From a post long ago: Dan Tull can be contacted at dtull-at-adobe.com .. .. note that @ has been substitued with -at- in above email address .. I haven't seen Dan in this forum for a while, so it's not a for sure thing.

Adobe Premeire Pro Installation Failed - Application Manager Corrupted. Please help!

I just recently purchased a subscription license for Adobe Premeire Pro CS6, and tried to download it following the instructions in the confirmation e-mail.   After installing the application manager and downloading, extracting, and installing the program, I received the error message seen in the image below, "Installation Failed - Adobe Application Manager is corrupted and must be reinstalled".
So of course I googled it, and found that this was a pretty common problem, and found one site that recommended re-installing the AAM with the following link:

So I did that too. In addition to restarting my computer, and also tried to download the program directly bypassing the AAM following the instructions on this page:

All of which was unsuccesful.   I've got a video for my Mom's 60th birthday that I HAVE to complete this weekend, and Adobe's support is closed on the weekends. I didn't think installing something from a company like Adobe would be this difficult. Makes me wish I had a Mac.    Can anyone PLEASE help me get Premeire (and Encore) downloaded and installed?

I am experiencing the same exact problem and am unable to resolve it. I've called Tier 1 support (Indian Call Center), and went through all the steps that I have already done myself (as outlined above) with no luck. I'm still getting the corruption error.
I am using Parallels Workstation Extreme and it is being installed on a Virtual Machine. The "Extreme" part of Parallels Workstation allows me to assign a discrete graphics card to the VM. This is uing Intel's vt-d technology for Directed IO. You mentioned above that you had fired up an instance of Windows 7 64-bit and it worked just fine. But for some reason, I am unable to duplicate the same success. The case is now being escalated to "higher" support. Here is my setup:
- Parallels Workstation Extreme VM - Windows 7 64-bit
- Subscription to Creative Cloud
- Clean Install does not work
- Not a part of any domain, just workgroup
- Home PC, so it connects directly to a router and then to Cox (ISP)
- Has direct assignment of a Network card, meaning the network card is not a bridged connection (the VM gets it's own NIC)
- User account is already Administrator, but tried to "Run as administratot" with no luck.
- After install on the clean Windows didn't work, tried using the Adobe Cleanup Tool - doesn't work either
- Disabled all start up programs from msconfig - doesn't work
- Verified that the (.exe) does work, but coping the same (.exe) to another computer and it works.
I would really appreciate any advice that you may have!

Fireworks 2004 Corrupt file please help

I've spent allot of hours on a particular png document. when
I came to open the file in Fireworks the next day, I go the dreaded
"Could not open the file Unknown file type" message. Huh! Please
help! really not wanting to re-create this file from scratch!.
I have also tried opening the file in other programs that can
open pngs (photoshop, illustrator, freehand etc ) with no avail.

Try deleting the Fireworks Preferences.txt. That will restore
all
program defaults the next time you load FW. If that doesn't
do it, check
for missing or corrupted fonts.

Lightroom 5 is not exporting my previews in the catalog, please help!

I purchased Lightroom 5 on Wednesday and had no problem exporting my images from a catalog that included previews and smart previews. Now it is having trouble exporting my previews. I'd tried restarting lightroom, trying different folder, I made sure all images were there, and still no luck. I would appreciate any help!

To be clear: Lightroom (without a plugin) can not (or should I say will not) export "plain" (lib) previews.
That said, if there is a smart preview, you should be able to export.
Are you saying there is a smart preview, but you can't export?
What about if there is NOT a smart preview - still a problem??

ITunes.exe - Corrupt File Please help!!!

Every time I plug my ipod into my computer iTunes will open, and in my task bar it will read iTunes.exe - Corrupt File. The File or Directory\iPod_control is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility. Every time I go to click on this it disapears, and it is impossible to restore because iTunes doesnt show it as being plugged in. What can I do? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Lightroom 5 Issues - please help...

I am new to LR5, but I can't seem to find an easy answer to the following issues, and solutions:
1. Importing photos creates subfolders at the destination despite having the "create subfolder" option unticked. For example - it is creating subfolder "2013" and subfolder under this "2103/06/20". It's either a bug, or there is another folder option to untick somewhere?
2. Syncronising folders. Ok - so I've exported a bunch of photos with destination folder under its parent as "Web". The export was to create websize photos for the main folder. Typically, with an import of different types of folders, I would do this a few times for each type of folder. However, I then find I have to manually right click each folder and synchronise each folder to get it to see the new folder which I told LR to create and export into. This is very frustrating, because if I forget to do it, it would seem there is no "web" folder with photos in it. Does LR have some kind of global "synchronise folders" which I can do in one hit for all folders, or is there some automatic option to click somewhere?
3. I understand the benefits of non-destructive editiing. However, to be able to use the photos I've edited in LR, I have to have exported them somewhere. It's great to use lightroom to find the edited images by filters keywords etc - but then to practically use this it would seem i would need to have created while exporting everything, an identical folder structure somewhere outside lighroom? Because, if I use lightroom to find the images I want to use, then the only way I'll actually find the actuall edited photos is to have a mirrored folder structure somewhere?
So - this seems quite tedious. It would seem for all the benefits of non-destructive editing, and filtering searches, it kinda causes a lot of work to actually use what you've edited!
Please someone let me know if I'm approaching these problems the wrong way - or not.

When you do the export, you can choose to have the exported photos automatically imported back into the LR catalog, thus saving you the need to synchronize everything; but before you do that, consider what I write in answer to your question #3
I don't think you need to export everything and then have "mirrored folder structure" of your exports, unless of course you actually need to have permanent and speedy access to the edited photos for non-Lightroom purposes. This certainly isn't necessary if finding the photos in Lightroom and making temporary exports will suffice. Many people don't export much at all; they find all of their edited photos by using Lightroom and not by using their operating system; and when you actually do need to use a photo outside of Lightroom, you export it, make use of it, and then delete the exported photo, knowing full well that Lightroom can recreate it exactly if you need it again. Basically, this is a tradeoff -- disk space being permanently used just in case you need to use the photo outside of Lightroom versus some extra work to recreate the export if you need it a 2nd time in the future. I choose to not export everything and to make my exports temporary; your needs may differ.

hmmm. just to be on the safe side, please try searching for that file again, after having done this:
Open "My computer". go to the Tools menu. Select "folder options ..." click the "view" tab. Make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is checked and "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked, like so:

uninstall then reinstall (with freshly downloaded itunes and ipod software) would be prudent. we want to try to try to get rid of any corrupted files (in either your itunes or quicktime set-ups).

Corrupted Layout PLease help?

Dear Mac friends,
I have a trouble - just bought Pages to write an application for an artist grant. When I make a PDF document from it, then the layout changes. It is like the complete document has become smaller in some way or another?

Updater freezes. Shuffle corrupted. Please help.

Before I get started I'll try to be clear on a few things.
UPDATER VERSION IS IRRELEVANT. I've tried with three different versions.
ITUNES VERSION IS IRRELEVANT. This is unrelated to itunes.
Short story: Program problem disallowed safe shuffle removal. It was corrupted as a result. I can't restore the ipod because the updater freezes up.
Longer story: Because of program I tried to run off my shuffle and my schools computer setup, things got messed up and when I tried to eject it it wouldn't let me. So I removed it manually. The shuffle got corrupted and was unreadable.
Seemed like a minor problem since I could easily restore the Ipod. I knew I had lost my files but that wasn't too bad. However the updaters all freeze when the ipod is plugged in or if they start while it's plugged in.
Now instead of just getting an error message when I try to do anything with my ipod the computer seems to be treating it as though it were an empty cd drive or something.
I doubt I can fix things. If I can't can anyone direct me to a replacement form and tell me if I've somehow voided the warranty?

I fixed it myself. The restorer was freezing up but apprently there is a third party one.

Only one MP4 file corrupt? Please help!

I'm dealing with a weird situation. With the recorder functionality on my Nokia N97 I have recorded 7 clips.
5 of them have an icon of a musical note.
1 has an icon of a filmstrip
And one has an icon of a question mark.
I have copied the files to my pc and all files play except for the one with the question mark.
Googling the internet I read an article about adjusting the headers with a hex editor. That didn't work for me.
The 'corrupted' file starts with

Broken video all i can suggest is copy off phone and try to repair with VLC media player .
Or search one of the AV forums somebody with more AV knowledge may have the answer .

Downloading music to itunes problem/corrupt files please help!

I'm having problems with my music as most of the files I download from cd's onto itunes & ipod are corrupt. Through most songs a horrible screeching sound will occur on many occasions.
Not sure if this is my laptop or itunes causing this problem.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, I'm happy we at least got the first problem solved.
I would suggest Restoring the iPod in iTunes, even if you have already done so, try again.
Next, go into My Computer, right-click the iPod and click Properties.
Is it possible that something like a Read Only box got checked? Or something like that?
I am sorry, but that's kinda all the help I can be, as I have never seen that problem before (although I am sure it is not just you). However, if you post back, I might be able to explain more, or maybe there is something you will notice that I do not know right now that will help.

Corrupt llb - please help to decorrupt it!

Unfortunately I had a crash while using labview. Now the whole llb is corrupt and i cannot open it again. Could someone of the application engineers try to decorrupt it? It's very important for me, because I have to finish the project until next week. It's made with LabView 8.2.1.
I splitted the file in 3 pieces. To put them together do:
-Unzip each piece to the same directory
-open part one (I used 7-zip)

In most cases it is quite complicated to repair such corrupted llbs. Well, sometimes its happened with llb (especially if llb is pretty big). The only NI engineers can properly repair it, because internal structure of these files is not published and not available.
But we can use the fact that llb is just container for VIs and controls. Signatures of these files can be recovered (they beginning with RSRC), so you can split your corrupted llb into separate files (not all files may be recovered, because some are corrupted already), something like that:
In attachment archive (7zip) with extracted files.
