Lightroom 4 & Elements 11

Does Lightroom 4 and or Elements 11 support Canon 5Diii raw files?

Have a look at this faq:
http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Both Elements11 and LR4 should be able to open those raw files.

  • Importing Keywords from Lightroom/Elements?

Recently upgraded from Elements to Lightroom/CS5.  Keywords from elements useable in Lightroom but lightroom/Elements Keywords not showing up in Bridge.  Is there a way to import them.  If not, this really handcuffs the switch to Bridge.  Any and all help appreciated.

Lightroom and Elements use a database to store metadata.  Bridge and many other progams store the info on the image.
In Elements you want to click file/write keywords tag and properties info to photo.  Then you can read it in Bridge.

  • Lightroom/Elements Help/Updates won't link to web

I have Lightroom 5.6 64 bit and Elements 12 installed on two Windows 7 computers - one is my work and the other my personal  home computer.  At some point the versions on my home computer stopped linking to the internet when I select a Help function or to check or download updates.  One message I get is that I have to associate a program with the file.  I tried to figure this out in windows but it is totally obscure to me.  Plus since it happens on both applications it must be something with some common Adobe program.  I recently uploaded some files with GPS coordinates into Lightroom - they don't show up at all on my home computer, but they do on my work computer and the Map function works fine.  Any ideas?

  • Confusion with Adobe Element and Lightroom?

Hello, I am new to the Mac world and purchased the IMac. I loaded up some pics into iPhoto and followed a discussion regarding the "import" issues into "Lightroom". I followed the instructions with "Element". Question: Now that i've test a photo yet cleaned it up in iPhoto and a lil in Element, what is the purpose of utilizing Lightroom? i didn't see any tools that were any indifferent . . Pleas Advise!

Thanks for the reply, I have to identify any direct questions relating to both products. I’m just thinking that both products are not needed.  The initial concern started when I couldn’t import IPhoto into Lightroom,  Element was the go between because it interacted with both IPhoto & Lightroom. Just wondering if both are needed.
    Please Advise,

  • Use PE Organizer or Lightroom to Catalog Videos + Storage Questions

Hello everyone. I'm re-entering the video arena after several years and have purchased a new entry level HD camcorder and plan on using Premier Elements for editing home videos. Nothing professional, just home movies, youth sports, stuff like that.
I have been an avid stills photographer however and have defined a workflow that I'm comfortable with. With stills - usually RAW files, I import them to an external hard drive first, import them into Lightroom, then proceed to catalog and keyword them appropriately.
Question 1: I know my way around Lightroom and it does allow for the cataloging and keywording of video files. I see that PE 12 has an organizer built into the program. Is there any advantage of me using PE's Organizer over Lightroom? They are all Adobe products, I'm just wondering if there is some sort of integration between PE's Organizer and Editor that will buy me an easier workflow or not. Otherwise I'll just use Lightroom.
Question 2: So a few years back I was taking videos with a DV camcorder, importing the video, editing it, burning a DVD, then deleting the source files AND the finished product that was burned to the DVD. I was certainly a novice and as I became more involved with photography and the technology itself, I came to realize that blowing away the finished product and relying on DVDs as storage was a bad idea. This means for those yesteryear videos I took I must hope a) that the discs never go "bad", which I know now they won't last forever, and b) that I must keep at least some machine around in the next decades that can play these discs. Yes, Blu-Ray players are backward compatible, but who knows in 20 years, right? At some point I'll try and look into capturing those DVDs back to a digital file, but that's besides the point. So I know I do not want to rely on DVDs as a "preservation" or archiving method for finished produced videos. The raw source files I'm not too worried about. I'll keep them around on an external drive and burn them to DVD-R, and worse case I'll have to roll them off the external drive if I run out of space and cannot afford a new drive right away. So my question is: a) what is the best format to store the finished video so that I am not reliant on DVDs as my primary preservation method and b) a format that I can use to re-burn a DVD or Blu-Ray disc later should I need to make additional copies and the original DVD/Blu-Ray disc is no longer available for a straight copy? The "b" portion of this question is of key importance to me right now because while I have a decent Blu-Ray player, I do not have the capabilities to burn a Blu-Ray (or even a DVD for that matter). I plan on getting a Blu-Ray burner within the next 6 months, but until then I will need to create finished videos that will eventually be turned into DVDs/Blu-Rays. What format could I store the finished product in so that I can go back and easily burn video to a DVD or Blu-Ray disc later? I would think the format would be very specific for Blu-Ray burning later especially.
Sorry for the long post. I tried to keep it as short as possible.
    Have a great weekend!
    Jim

Thanks for the follow ups. Sorry for the delayed response. Was thinking about your questions but got detoured several times.
Let us start with archiving....I do not know that there is a perfect solution with changing times et al.
    1. Project Archiving would appear at face value to be a good choice
    a. preserves your source media that the project file needs to trace back to
    b. preserves the project file with all its edits so that your re-entry into the project will allow you further edits and/or alternative
    export choices.
    c. there is a concern about disc menus in archived projects but you say that the disc menu aspect of the matter is not important to you
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE12: Archiving Projects With Disc Menus
My main problem with Project Archiver is that you are dependent on being able to open the archived project file in the same version in which it was
created or a later version...the later the version, the more the concern.
    2. When it comes to burn tos DVD, AVCHD, or Blu-ray....VIDEO_TS, BDMV, BDMV & Blu-ray disc image....
    a. The best of all worlds might be accomplished by saving the VIDEO_TS Folder from a burn to folder for DVD and saving the BDMV from a burn to folder for AVCHD. There is no Premiere Elements burn to folder for Blu-ray. Depending on the version of Premiere Elements and the computer operating system, you could try for a burn to Blu-ray disc image with Phantom Burner in conjunction with Premiere Elements.
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE12: Disc Image/Phantom Burner & PE
I would probably have more confidence on finding a program now or in the future - ImgBurn, Nero...to be available to take the VIDEO_TS, BDMV, or Blu-ray disc image to disc. You might even consider a burn to Blu-ray, followed by copying the BDMV Folder from it for archiving purposes. The video files from VIDEO_TS and BDMV are easily extracted.
    3. If preserving the edited Timeline is the target, then SD project I would probably go with DV AVI standard or widescreen, if HD, probably an AVCHD.mp4 or AVCHD.m2t.
If Premiere Elements versions got stronger on disc image, I suspect I would go that route to preserve a project. Right now, I am doing a mix of all of the above.
As for Lightroom, Elements Organizer, and Premiere Elements. I am not a great fan of Lightroom. Neither am I have heavy user of Elements Organizer. However, I have looked a some Lightroom tryouts along the way to see what it is all about.
    1. With regard to your use of Photoshop Elements 9 plus Lightroom, that seems consistent with the workflows suggested by others and the gains to be gotten in using the best attributes of each.
Integrate Lightroom with Elements – Photoshop Elements User
You would probably get greater advantage using the same version of Elements Organizer as Photoshop Elements for the sake of integration.
Just in case note....Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements are standalone programs, each coming with its own Elements Organizer. When Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements same versions are on the same computer they share the same Elements Organizer catalog..
    2. For me, Lightroom and Premiere Elements, unlike Photoshop Elements, and video never seemed to integrate well.
The following is a link to some work I did with LIghtroom when I was at a forum that I no longer visit
Lightroom 4.1 Slideshow Module Visited - Elements Village
From my perspective, Premiere Elements integration with Elements Organizer and Photoshop Elements gives me a workflow that meets my needs.
My camera does not record raw image format. But, if I have Camera Raw installed on my computer with Premiere Elements, I can import raw image format and dng as source media into a Premiere Elements project. For edit of the raw image format, I need the Camera Raw dialog which requires the presence of Photoshop Elements which I have.
Please review and consider the above and then let me know if I have targeted your question.
    Thank you.

  • How much future useage for CS6 for a stand-alone photographer?

I'm a semi professional small-scale photographer. It's a hobby, but I do some commercial work. It certainly isn't a living (I have other income)
I've been on CS6 for some time. It does absolutely everything that I need, and in fact it's too much. I could do with an application that's somewhere between Lightroom+Elements and CS6. It doesn't exist.
But as I've paid for CS6 I'm quite happy to keep on using it ad infinitum - after all, with no more upgrades (CS7 etc)  it's free now! But at a realistic level how long can I run it for, do you think? I run a good spec desktop PC with Windows 7. I use CS6 in 64bit mode, and also Bridge. Assuming my PC fails in 12 months time (it's three years old) I will get a new destop using Windows 8. CS6 will run under Windows 8, so no problems there. My new desktop may last 5 years? That gives me a total of 6 years using CS6.
Of course, there will need to be support from Adobe for CS6, in particular if any significant bugs arise. But why should there be new bugs, unless they are in relation to third-party plugins etc? CS6 has been out for some time. Adobe are not going to change it (they have their head stuck in a cloud) so it shouldn't get broken. Or am I wrong in thinking that?
    Any thoughts?
    To upgrade to CS6  http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/catalog/cs6._sl_id-contentfilter_sl_catalog_sl_software_s l_creativesuite6.html?start=10
In the Photoshop CS6 row, click the Buy link
"I want to buy:", click on the dropdown menu and select Upgrade
click "I own" and on the dropdown menu select the relevant product which you already own
Follow the prompts from there to complete the purchase

    Curt Y wrote:
That is the problem you have with any upgrade if you use the new features.
CC is more a trap then an upgrade.
A Photoshop only user is better off staying  with CS6 and not be being trap.
While I would prefer to have the new features being added to ACR.  I do not need the new improved old features with their new interfaces, new icons and new bugs. These change post processing work flow they only seem to slow user down and make more work for them.  I also do not need or want the 3D tools. Photoshop is not a 3D program by design. Photoshop 3D feature is more an add-on and lacks features found in real 3D creation programs.
I want a stable image editor. While CS6 has bugs I know which bugs effect my work and know my way around most.   Photoshop CS6 still occasionally crashes from time to time but now on my new machine it only seems to happen in SciptUIFlex and I can use Photoshop  for days without a crash.  Today was not one of them.
To tell you the truth all upgrade after CS3 have been plagued with bugs. I was not looking forward to having to upgrade to CS7.
It look like CC has its share of bugs too.  Though CC seems to be starting off better then CS6 did.  While there have been a few dozen bugs reported in Adobe's Photoshop Family problem forum. That is not a large number and most are not problems with CC crashing.

  • No Flash Player

I read all of the threads regarding a problem similar to mine
    - - no flash player in Windows XP, and would have opened a ticket
in support, but I don't know how. I can't log in as it prompts for
a product serial number and the flash player doesn't seem to have
one. Unless I'm missing something. So, here's my problem.
    First:
    Windows XP
    HP - AMD Athalon 64 X 2
    2.0 GB mem
I use all of the following browsers, in descending order,
    starting with the most used.
AOL Desktop - Uses IE 7.0
    AOL 9.1 with branded IE
AOL Explorer Browser - IE 7.0
    IE 7.0
    Firefox 2
    Netscape 8
I've lost the flash player. Videos in YouTube won't play,
just a blank space. No detection at the Adobe page which detects
    which version you have.
This happened seemingly suddenly, as I had it all last month.
I may have upgraded to Windows XP SP 3 since then; although, I've
done a system restore to a date previous to that upgrade.
I've tried every and all fixes, except for fiddling with the
registry; however, there are numerous entries in Root/permissions
I've tried installing an uninstalling with and without
rebooting between the uninstall and install.
I've tried system restore to a date a month or so ago.
I'v tried an earlier version of Adobe Flash Player.
I'v tried any and all of the suggested fixes, with each one
    of the browsers.
THEN, A LITTLE WHILE AGO, After spending an hour and a half
trying all of the above, I was using the AOL Desktop, which uses IE
7.0, and VOILA, there it was. Video in YouTube, Player detected on
Adobe as 9.0, not sure if it was the very latest upgrade. The
global settings were on the adobe page and worked. Even the flash
on the Adobe home page worked. It was back. I went to each of the
other browsers and NONE of them had the player. Then I went back to
AOL Desktop, and it was gone. Somehow it came back and then
disappeared. In the interim I did not uninstall anything, install
anything, reboot the computer, or mess with the registry. All I did
was open and close the browsers.
So, what can I do? I'd be happy to email someone directly to
fix this, or open up a ticket if someone can tell me how to
register. I have other adobe products, Lightroom & Elements, so
maybe I can register through them.
    This is very frustrating.

As of this moment, I have flash, as the flash on the Adobe

  • Photoshop CC doesn't open my camera raw files from my new Nikon D800 (ACR v 8.3.0.141)

However, it opens camera raw files from my D300 without problems.
Same for Bridge: NEF files are displayed as generic thumbs.
    Can anyone help me?

I don't use the Nikon software, but I believe that the latest version of Nikon Transfer works fine. I think it comes with ViewNX2, which is a free download, AFAIK.
I personally download my photos using a card reader and Adobe Bridge (which comes with Photoshop, and contains Adobe Photodownloader).  Not sure, but I think it's included with Lightroom & Elements too (but I don't use those either).  Using Photodownloader has the added advantage of being able to add metadata at the same time.

  • PSE 8 refused to handle 16 bit color

When I tryed to Import some foto I took last in to PSE 8 and photo-Panorama section
I got the following message Photoshop Elements with a triangle and yellow[ ! ] This action cannot be performed on a file with 16 bit color depth
Do you want to convert to 8 bits/channel
The other problem it did not load all the fotos that I had check to be loaded
Any ideas as to why this happened
Camera was Pentax K10D which should not be the problem?

In lightroom under File>Export, you should be able to export your files as 8 bit.
Also you might have a look at this plugin for lightroom, which lets lightroom
use photoshop elements much as it uses photoshop.
    http://thephotogeek.com/lightroom/elemental/
I tried several times in the past to use 16 bit files with photomerge and while it
worked sometimes, other times i had the same problem your having. So i decided
just to convert my files to 8 bit and avoid all that. (photomerge does this anyway)
I suspect that's the reason you had trouble opening the rest of your files after
    the first one in photomerge.

  • Need help with m2ts problem in PE 7

Why can't I import m2ts formats in PE7 as I can import mpg formats?

    Ed C Jake wrote:
The video comes from a Sony CyberShot DSC HX30V.  The photos and video clips were imported using Sony's program:   PlayMemories Home       which is apparently required to export video from the camera.
I then copied the photos and videos into an appropriate folder on my external HD.
The next step was to import the photos and videos into PE7.  No problem with the photos BUT PE7 did not recognize the m2ts files.
I have almost the same camera.  Mine is the predecessor to the HX20/30V.  For those that don't know the camera, it is a moderately price pocket "point and shoot" that Sony decided should shoot stunning, stabilized HD video.  If you want a pocket sized video camera, this should be the first one you look at.
I also bought a big brother, the RX100.  I shoot in the highest quality 1080p60 AVCHD.  You can dumb these cameras down to an older format, like MP4.  But, if you want them to perform at their best settings, you need new software.  I started with PrE9, then 10.  The worked with the lower quality settings of AVCHD 1.0 and could be made to work with 1080p that was included in AVCHD 2.0. I was not until the current 11 that AVCHD 2.00 was fully supported.  "Fully Supported" means that 1080p60 was included.  You bought a 1080p60 camera so you need the software to match.  Buy PrE 11!
My "workflow" is the same as yours.  I use PlayMemories to move the video to my computer.  It does a few things well.  It organizes the files for me and, most important, allows 100% lossless editing.  It can trim, split and join parts of original footage to make new files with no transcoding or rendering.  It is fast, even on older weaker computers.  So, just for the opportunity of occasional lossless editing, I keep that in my habit pattern.
I hate to correct Steve, but the files made by the camera don't need "capturing".  (I don't know what capturing is. I think it may have to do with cameras that used firewires.)  AVCHD files only need to be copied.  The files are born as editable video.  The files that end in .m2ts that are made by the camera are all that are needed and can be used by most current editing software except PlayMemories.  PlayMemories uses the other minor files for it's special Sony magic.  If you don't want any of PlayMemories features you can get rid of the .modd and .moff files.
You can use PlayMemories, Windows Explorer, Lightroom, Elements Organizer or whatever to move the files from either the camera plugged into USB, a card reader plugged into USB or putting the card in the computer directly.  It does not matter how you get them there.  You do need to drill down a little to find the files if you use the simpler methods because AVCHD's relationship to Blu-Ray formats put them in a layered folder structure on the SD card.
Once the .m2ts files are on the computer you can put them into Premier Elements by doing a Get or Add Media from files or folders.   Again, you need version 11 for it to work.
One last comment.  HD files like 1080p are large with lots of digital information.  If your computer is as old as PrE7 is, you need a new computer for to handle them.

PS:  Steve,  I signed up for a month of lynda.  I'm working on Lightroom and PSE.  I'll be watching yours too!

I want a full version, serial numbers included

"From your questions, you don't want Photoshop at all, but a non-professional photo editor"
I have an old program called Picture Publisher, it cost about $100. I have read dozens of pages and watched youtube videos all about how to use photoshop.. but when it is all done and the results are shown, I have not seen any result I can not produce with my old program.
The one utility Photoshop does have is magic mask that lets you mask everything in a photo.
With mine you can only mask contiguous areas and if there are tiny areas like between flying hair, then I have to manually touch each little spot.
My goal is simple, take portraits... poses against a solid green background.. set the tolerance so a small range of that color green is masked, reverse the mask and paste the cropped portrait on any background, feather em a bit.
When a tiny area of the green is showing through, that is what takes time to mask.
The magic mask that selects all of one color any where is the only tool Photoshop has that i need.
And I did think you could buy discontinued versions of Photoshop. I did upgrade to windows 8, dont like it, still have it but bought two more used windows 8 computers
    Thanks

  • Which is the comparable program to the old Photoshop 6.0

I still want to be able to manipulate and adjust
the images but I'm not sure which program I should
    buy: CS4, Lightroom, Elements.

With Elements are you able to liquefy
    and manipulate the image?
Can you merge other images together like in
    6.0?

  • Can not CS2 in LR

When I want to edit in CS2 I go in LR to "Photo > edit in Photoshop CS2.
    However CS2 is not opened.
I read about getting into the regedit.exe but this is perhaps ok for software specialists but not for a photoamateur who happens to use LR.
I feel that Adobe has to give clear instructions (step by step) how to solve this problem.
I purchased LR, Adobe has to deliver a functioning LR that does not require software knowledge to make it work.

I should have been a litle clearer. I had PS7 installed when I installed the beta Lightroom and it found PS7.I thought if I'm going to to try to enter the 21st century I'll have a look at elements as I was struggling to justify the cost of CS. Any way, bought Lightroom, elements demo timed out so I uninstalled it. Now Lightroom wont find PS7. Tried the reg hack suggested but still no luck. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled. Lightroom still doesn't see PS7. I can select it as the second option but it would be nice if Lightroom would find it as before. The point is though why in a brand new peice of software are we being forced to hack our system registries to get the bloody thing to do what it's supposed to!!
I am considering buying CS. I had been using PS7 for years working with scans from negs and prints but have only recently made the jump to Digital SLR.

  • How can I integrate metadata and keywords in Lightroom with those in Photoshop, Bridge, and Photoshop Elements? In other words, is there a way to retrieve common metadata templates from all modules? Thanks!

Keyword and Metadata Integration throughout Adobe Modules

    Thanks! That's helpful.
What I mean by "common metadata", is a unified, updated, most current metadata, which I could update in each program. That is without overwriting the metadata, but appending new keywords to the metadata I created in the previous program.
I use Bridge, then Lightroom and finally Photoshop. That's the regular workflow: Bridge for preliminary sorting and and adding some keywords; Lightroom for organizing and picking the best images; finally, Photoshop for processing. I got Photoshop Elements on trial. Doesn't work for my purposes.
I need to share and update the metadata / keywords when I go from one program into another. Can't retrieve metadata I set up in Bridge into Lightroom. Same happens with Photoshop, where I can't retrieve keywords I add in Lightroom. It's tedious to write up the keywords again.
    Thanks for your efforts!

  • If I edit a photo in Photoshop Elements, I can't seem to re-import it back into Lightroom. If I open the relevant folder on my Mac the image is present, but Lightroom just doesn't "see" it at all.

For some reason, my (Mac) Lightroom 5 won't recognise images in folders on my Mac that I've edited in either Photoshop Elements or Perfect Effects 8. If I've previously imported images from a specific folder, Lightroom will show these as greyed-out images (as normal) but will not show other images I've subsequently saved in that folder. Similarly, if I, say, select three images from Lightroom to use the Photomerge option in Elements, the subsequent saved image won't be recognised by Lightroom.
I've tried moving locations, saving in umpteen different formats etc., but the problem persists. No problem importing existing images from either SD card or old folders on the computer.
    It's very frustrating!

Ah-Ha! Right, think I've worked out the problem!
When I save a photo from Photoshop, I often place it on the desktop with a view to e-mailing it or posting it somewhere on the internet. I've just looked at the file that was supposedly saved as a .psd, but under "properties" it has no file extension. So I added the .psd and bingo, up it popped in the LR import window! I've since gone into Photoshop preferences & ticked it to add a file extension. That's really odd - I've never deselected that option but, hey ho, mystery solved.
Many thanks for your patience Mr Paige, I should have looked at this before. Put it down to advancing senility...
