Lightroom 4 Export sizes not accurate? Print Space website london

Hi Guys,
I'm currently exporting my images from lightroom 4 to get them printed at the print space in London
i exported 3 files at A4 size in mm, i then uploaded them onto the print spaces website and all 3 images are very slightly off in dimensions
i took all 3 pics with the same camera, same lens, and they are not cropped at all, all exported at 300 DPI, all exported into Jpeg, all export dims bang on
i also exported another image which was 16"w x 22"h, again i uploaded to the website and same thing it stated the original file size was 16,9" x 23.2"
i sent the guys a message but they only use photoshop, so not that clued up with lightroom, has anyone else experienced this problem
when exporting an exact size and yet it comes out slightly different?
could it be that lightroom 4's measurements are out? i find that unlikely as everyone would complain!
i'm struggling for ideas on what else to try to solve this issue
One thing the guy mentioned at the print space was that you can switch to custom sizes and enter what ever size you require the print to be
but when you amend the width, it automatically changes the height... and vice versa, so you cant pick both custom H and W at the same time.
who would have thought that printing in A4 would be so difficult !!! :-)
Thanks for your time hopefully someone might be able to shed some light on this.
Cheers
Chris

We'll need some details
For one such photo, we need the exact pixel dimensions of the photograph (you said you didn't crop, so I want the pixel dimensions of the uncropped photo)
We'll also need to know your exact settings in the Image Sizing dialog box (screen capture is best, but you can type these in if you need to)
And since I'm an American and not familiar with A4, exactly what are the dimensions of an A4 piece of paper?

    hey
aperture 3.0 on Lion on macbook air 2011.
i am trying to export a slideshow I created in aperture (200 files, total several hundred mb plus 1 audi mp3)
however, anything over "ipod touch" resolutions throws the error

Free up space on the disk and try again.
I have more than 15 GB free, how could it possibly be the reason?
    Any ideas?

and where would this data be stored now? because I cannot find it to delete it to recover that disc space...

I was supposed to have this completed by tonight and move onto other editing tasks..

  • Lightroom Export Plugins not on the Website?

    Hi!
I was directed to this portion of the Adobe website:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom/plugins-presets.edu.html#export-plugins
I have found a few plugins that I would like to experiment with, namely the Costco one and the Blog one, however everytime I click on one of them I just get a page that says "We're sorry we've encountered an error processing your request" I am on Google Chrome on a PC, anyone know how I can actually get to these plugins where I can try to get them installed into Lightroom 5??

Thanks, I tried again this time using IE and was able to download them. For anyone paying attention at Adobe you might have an issue with some of those pages refrenced above with Google Chrome.

  • Export sizes not consistent

    Hi all,
    Lightroom 4.1 / Mountain Lion
    Settings for Image Sizing:
    Resize to fit - Long Edge - 960 pixels - 300ppi - Don´t enlarge
    Portrait results: Width_640 x Height_960
    Landscape results: Width_1440 x Height_960
Lowering ppi to 240 results in the dimensions coming out right
A fellow photographer tested the same on Windows 7 and gets expected results.
I saw what appears to be the same issue in a thread from april 2011, but that thread died without a solution.
Is this a bug in the Mac version?
Does it have to do with the ppi and is LR4.1 actually doing it right?

    @Rikk,
I was referring to Publish services, from my perspective publishing NEF (no dng, since editing them is much slower on my machine) to jpg to any service is an export...
If that was incorrect semantically I´d love to know the difference
In the meantime I created a new catalog, imported some files without their XMP, did a quick edit and re-created three publish services; 300/240/72ppi.
All but the 300ppi come out with the expected sizes.
Also, I´ve been reading up on ppi/dpi versus resolution and dimensions and started to wonder...
Could it be that 300ppi simply does not fit insize the given dimensions and that therefore LR publishes to larger dimensions???
I feel a bit stupid I don´t know this, but reading the various articles on that subject it becomes clear that even a lot of graphical/web designers and long-time photographers get confused, so... :-)

  • Lightroom Export Droplets not working on large exports...

I've been noticing that Lightroom will not run my droplet after export if I am exporting more than about 10 images at a time. If I only highlight about 10 images and then export them, the droplet will run fine. But if I highlight all the images, or even 20 of them for export then Lightroom just doesn't run the droplet afterwards.
Has anyone else seen this? For now I have given up and just run the batch job from within Photoshop.
    I'm using Windows XP SP2.

It's down to the total length of file+folders names that can be passed via the command line.
To maximize the number of files that the droplet runs, export to a root folder such as D:\ - it keeps the total path name short.

  • Movie export size not available/balance between size and quality

    Hi,
I imported some film into iMovie 08 from my Canon HD camcorder, at full 1920 x 1080 size. After I finished editing it, I wanted to export the final movie at 960 x 540. This size is not available under the "standard" share options ("large" is 1280 x 720 and "medium" is I can't remember what exact size but smaller than 960 x 540). Similarly, when I go into "Export using QuickTime" and try to create an H.264 movie there, the 960 x 540 option simply isn't available. What gives?
The reason I wanted to use this size was to try to cut down on file size. I exported the movie at 1280 x 720 and got a 380Mb file. So I wanted to try it at 960 x 540 and see what difference that made to the file size and quality. Since I couldn't seem to do it using iMovie, I ended up taking the 1280 x 720 video and using ffmpegx to convert it to 960 x 540. The problem is that I ended up with a file that was, bizarrely, even bigger (384Mb), and that had a thin green line across the bottom of the video.
So, in summary, my three questions are:
    1. Why can't I export from iMovie in 960 x 540?
    2. Why does my ffmpegx conversion result in an even bigger file?
    3. What's the best way for me to get the optimum balance between file size and quality? (For viewing on Apple TV/HD television).
    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

Another very good 3rd party slideshow application is PhotoPresenter. It has some of the nicest themes I've seen in any slideshow application (including the Apple TV introduction theme) and will export to a variety of sizes up to 720 x 480 which is DV-DVDCPRO - NTSC.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

What is your operating system? And is it 32bit or 64bit?

  • Hi all! What is the best way to create the correct space for baseball jersey names and numbers? along with making sure they are the right size for large printing.

What is the best way to create the correct space for baseball jersey names and numbers? along with making sure they are the right size for large printing.

Buying more hard drive space is a very valid option, here.  Editing takes up lots of room, you should never discount the idea of adding more when you need it.
Another possibility is exporting to MXF OP1a using the AVC-I codec.  It's not lossless, but it is Master quality.  Plus the file size is a LOT smaller, so it may suit your needs.

  • Custom Print Size not printing to Epson 4900

I had Epson Support on the phone yesterday as I have been unable to print anything wider than 22 inches from Lightroom 5.7 . The custom page size is 17" by 30". The tech took over my computer, made sure all was set up correctly. The lightroom print module showed the proper dimensions and the tech hit print. The print came out resized at 22 inches. The tech then opened the same photo in Photoshop CS5, set up a custom paper size to 17 by 30 and hit print. The print preview showed the proper dimensions and he sent it to the printer. The print came out perfectly at 17x 30. He had no explanation but said it had to be a lightroom problem and not a problem with the 4900
All firmware and software updates have been downloaded to the printer. The computer is a IMac Intel running the latest OS. Does anyone have any ideas why the custom size will print properly from Photoshop, but not from Lightroom
    Thanks in advance

I asked you a question in the Beginners forum. It usually isn't a good idea to post in more than one forum.

  • Lightroom 2.3 not printing

On a Mac.  Using an Epson R2400 printer.   Works fine w/Photoshop (CS4).   When I go to print an image in Lightroom, it says it's printing;  the printer queue shows up with a Lightroom job (briefly), then nothing prints.
Ideas?   I haven't changed any printer settings on my computer, and I just printed 4 images from Photoshop 5 minutes ago absolutely fine.  But nothing from Lightroom.
I must be doing something stupid.. Or not doing something.
Feel free to cite as "operator error", but please tell me what the error is.
    Thanks

Bob makes a good point.   It might be nice for me to explain what I did to resolve my problem.  I'll do my best, but the short answer is, I'm not sure why what I did would make a difference.  However, here goes.
First, some details about my exact problem:
I created a contact sheet in LR composed of the same photo repeated 15 times (my daughter wanted reprints of a picture).   I'm running Leopard on this G5 PowerPC, dual monitors, loads of free disk space, and 2G memory.  Printer is an Epson R2400 connected by USB.  I'm using Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl Paper (not that THAT  matters), and I specified the printer profile for that printer and that paper in LR.  As I said in the original post, I had just printed some other photos from Photoshop CS4 (same printer / paper / profile) a few minutes earlier, so I know that the computer - printer connection was working.
Each time I tried to print from LR, LR would show "rendering" the print job in the upper left of the LR frame, and the print job would briefly (maybe 5 seconds) show up in my printer queue display.  Then NOTHING.   I tried printing with LR controlling the colors (even though I know it would look horrible) and got the same result.  I tried a different layout (picture packet)...same result.  I deleted the printer from Leopard and re-added it while I was in LR.  Same result.   I quit LR and restarted LR.   Same result.
    Grrrr..
Then, just cause I was bored and frustrated, I started playing with the sliders in the layout for the proof sheet and SLIGHTLY increased the gap between the 15 pictures (layout is 5X3).   Pressed PRINT.
WHAMO.   Picture printed.  I swear, that's ALL I did.  I haven't had the nerve to change it back for fear it won't print again.
Anyway, not sure this is of any help to anyone, and frankly, I still have a hard time believing that this would make any difference at all.  But it did.
Or maybe it's cause I drank a beer.  Or cause the sun came out (I live in Seattle).
    Good luck.

  • Export works not correct in LR5.3; ignore image size.

BUG: The export works not correct in LR5.3 When the field  "Dont enlarge" are activated Lightroom ingnores the settings of image sizing and export the pictures in original size. Where can fix it?

Another option, if you're not into using plugins (Exportant) to fix:
Export in 2 groups - those needing resizing and those that do not (e.g. using lib-filters or smart-collections):
    * Export those needing resizing normally (but with "don't enlarge" unchecked).
    * Export those not needing resizing without resizing.
I mean, re-installing Lr5.2 may be a fine-enough work-around, but so ya know: Lr5.4 is likely to be out soon, with problem fixed...
    PS - Get Lr5.2 here:

  • In iPhoto how do I stop files from auto resizing as they import? I don't want my files reduced to 72. The option to choose size on the export menu not suitable for up sizing, as you can't restore the quality removed?

in iPhoto how do I stop files from auto resizing as they import? I don't want my files reduced to 72. The option to choose size on the export menu not suitable for up sizing, as you can't restore the quality removed.

Short answer: They are not resizing, there is no quality lost. The dpi is only set when you decide what size you're printing at
Longer answer:  Dpi means nothing in the digital world of your computer. There are no "inches" to have "dots per..." Size is measured in pixels. That's the same on your camera. It doesn't take 10 x 8 or 6 x 4 shots. It takes shots measured in megapixels. For instance 4,000 x 3,000 is a 12 megapixel camera.
Using that example, that shot from that camera has 12 million pixels. So that's how many "Dots" there are. To decide the ratio of dots per inch, you now need to decide the "inches" part. And that's printing. Print at 10 x 8 and the dpi will be 4,000/10 or about 400 dpi. At 6 x 4 then it's 4,000/6 or 660 dpi. Work the other way: Print at 300 dpi and the resulting image will be about 13 inches on the longer side.
So, your photo as a fixed number of pixels. Changing the dimensions of the print will vary the dpi, changing the dpi will vary the dimensions of the print.

  • Lightroom uses huge amounts of HDD space (temporarily) from my main drive when exporting?

I'm having a HUGE issue with Lightroom using massive amounts of HDD space on my main drive when I'm trying to export photos.
The photos are on external HDD and are being exported to the same HDD. The space being used on the C: Drive (main HDD) is upwards of 19GB, while the exported photos are only taking up a very small fraction of that size once saved...
What gives? This is causing Lightroom to fail most times because it is running out of space on my HDD while it exports.
As soon as a close Lightroom the C: drive goes right back to where it was as if nothing happened at all.

I have and the same thing happens. I'm wondering if it's an issue with my
    main drive being an SSD.
I've gone so far as to direct link the AppData folders (local and roaming)
for Adobe to my secondary drive thinking it was temporary cache, but the C
drive still gets used and it drops by about 1GB a minute during export.

  • Exporting to external harddrive "not enough disk space"

    imac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)
I'm having several problems while trying to export my entire iphoto library as a backup to an external harddrive...
The main on is I am getting a "not enough disk space error". There is 95 GB available on the harddrive and the library is approximately 20 GB.
I've been doing it in smaller increments b/c I thought it might be an issue of not enough space on my mac's harddrive as I only have like 6GB left (the reason I'm backing up and deletiing photos) but it gets to a certain point and then says no more.
I've been using the export function, but I've also tried just dragging and dropping them and get the same error.
    I'm runnning iphoto 4.0.3.
Of course I've tried restarting to no avail...
    Any suggestions would be welcome...
Another issue is the filenames. Of course many have the same names from the camera. Is there a way to get them to automatically put them in folders on the harddrive. I've been doing this manually and it's tiresome.
Finally, is there a way to get it keep the "date created" information. When I look on the harddrive it says they were all created 12/31/1903! That's going to make it very difficult to find something later should I need it...
    Thanx so much!
    JT

< The library is like 30 GB while the pictures are only 20GB.>
If you have rotated, cropped, or edited any pictures in iPhoto, the originals are all kept inside the iPlibrary in case you want to "revert to the originals"... it's good to know it's there, but you are less likely to revert to an original, since there's a reason you edited the pics in the first place.
Anyway, those originals are taking "wasted space" in your iPlibrary.
If you want to reduce the size of the iPlibrary from 30GB to close to 20GB, (because the thumbnails will remains and must), then you should get rid of the superfluous duplicates! I did.
if you want to clean you iPlibrary and get rid of duplicates, you can use iPhoto diet. Free download.
My advice, is do a drop and copy the entire iPlibrary to the external, as suggested by eww, because imagine a day, when the internal HD iPLibrary crashes on you, and becomes not salvageable, you will have a mirror copy, to copy back to your internal drive, with all it's albums, names, favorites ,star ratings etc....... If you export to the external HD, and if your iP library crashes on you.... you are to re-import from scratch.... and you will go %#%^&$&@$$@#
I have been there myself... now I have 3 differents external HD that I back up to. 9 different iPlibraries, and 3 copies of each on 3 separate HD..... Photos are too important to me.....
Reading this discussion group, you see many people writting thing such as "my library is gone what do I do?"
it's not a matter of if but when!
    You be the judge...
